By Matthew Cerrone - Jun 26, 2008 4:53 pm

Lou Pinella will replace Willie Randolph on Clint Hurdle’s coaching staff during this year’s All Star Game at Yankee Stadium, writes Brian Costello in a report for the New York Post.

According to Costello, ‘MLB is working with Randolph to see if he still wants to be involved in the game in some capacity.’

note to MLB: if you invite willie, i suggest you call him before 11 pm PDT, or before 2 am EDT…again, just a suggestion…

Nah, if Willie goes he should wear one of those half-half uniforms. You know, half New York Giants, half Brooklyn Dodgers. Screw the Yankees and their decrepit cathedral.

Replacing Randolph with Pinella is a major upgrade for the NL coaching staff.

No matter what you think about Willie-he deserves to be involved in some way.he spent many years at Yankee Stadium and was an excellent player.Cut him a break. As we are seeing the current Met situation isn’t all Willie’s fault. I say 20%

Huh? Why would they contact Willie to see if he wants to be involved in some capacity?

He was invited to be a coach because he was the manager of the other New York team. It wasn’t like someone thought, *gosh, we really need to have Willie be a part of this…that will make it really special and great.* It wasn’t a personal thing, just like they asked Girardi because he is the manager of the team that plays in that stadium. It wasn’t because anyone thought Girardi really *belongs* there.

He was invited because he was the manager of the Mets. He isn’t anymore. So, he shouldn’t be there. Seems simple to me.

He was invited because of his history with the Yankees not because he was manager of the other NY team. If it was any other manager on Mets, they would not have been invited!

That’s what I call an upgrade. That’s like replacing Sarah Jessica Parker with Kate Hudson.

Matt, Don’t get our hopes up when you use a title called “News: Willie Replaced by Lou Pinella”

That would have been nice if true.
