I think it was more than the “sweetheart” that was offensive. As a woman, and a journalist, you want to be taken seriously. She should get the same respect any male would have gotten walking into that clubhouse. Not cat calls and whistling. The kid was the #1 Mets pick – obviously there is a story there – whether he is playing that night or not.

Calling a woman “sweetheart” in a professional setting is misogynistic–it’s a slick way of trying to reduce the woman’s legitimacy to that of a high-school girl in the boys’ locker room. A professional organization, in today’s world, cannot afford to allow such behavior to continue if it is to remain relevant.
