I agree with this sentiment. But re your other remarks on journalism: are blogs really “journalism” as we’ve come to know & love it? They are by nature impromptu & riddled with errors of all sorts, it seems–for example: the young writer who has such an ego he calls himself “J-Rod” but is so worried what folks think of him that he cannot admit public error is really “Justin” Rodríguez, not “Juan” Rodríguez, as Matt writes. But do we “call him on the carpet” for substituting the most well-known Hispanic christian name on record for an Anglo name when that Anglo name is unexpectedly coupled with an Hispanic surname? Not me; I give him the benefit of the doubt.

Blogs are not obligated to do research nor are they obligated to refrain from strong language.

However, it’s deplorable that he surreptiously edits the original post instead of timestamping corrections.

Obviously, I don’t think Ike Davis is a horrible person, it was hyperbole, and my point was that the conversation became about something larger than who he is as a person.

You can not, and should not expect journalistic ethics on a blog. When you get good journalistic quality on a blog, it is a bonus. For goodness sake, you often get poor journalism in mainstream media….Dan Rather, NY Times, NY Post, Fox News, need I say more?
