lets score some runs for johan”unlucky ace” santana.

    Lets go mets!!!!!!

  2. SuicideWatch says:

Anything less than 8 IP and 1 or fewer runs from Santana today and I will be 100% disgusted.

He needs to get us to .500 today and this team needs to never look back.

  3. adam11216 says:

does anyone know why it seems like they insist on giving santana the worst possible defense every time he pitches?

    • The Glider says:

If that’s true, good point. But are the subs the reason why he has lost these games? DWright made the big error in the last game before Johann gave up the GS to Hernandez.

      • adam11216 says:

maybe it’s just me, but it seems like it’s always some combo of tatis, easley, anderson and now phillips in the OF. and if easley isn’t in the OF, he’s at 2B. not trying to say that’s why he’s losing, but it seems like you’d stack your defense behind your ace.

      • John The Mets Fan says:

Wrights error loaded the bases with 2 outs, but didnt score any runs. Santana’s obligation, his reason for being on this team, is to GET THE OPPOSING PITCHER OUT. I dont care who made how many errors, YOU’RE AN ACE. An opposing AMERICAN LEAGUE pitcher who has TEN, yes TEN career ABs, cannot go up there and hit it out of the park. That was ALL Santana’s fault. No excuses. You have to be real ignorant about baseball to believe otherwise….

  4. metsfan1 says:

What happened to Castillo playing all 4 games? I read in Newsday that Manuel basically told Castillo you can rest as much as you want. He was implying he will have no problem putting in Easily. As soon as Castillo heard that, he started playing.

    • patrick says:

      here we have a Willieism

Castillo plays both ends of a double dip, when he is a far better right handed hitter with knee problems.

Long live Jerry, Randolph’s bench coach for 3+ years.

  5. hyperion4 says:

So much for Castillo playing all four games of this series.

  6. dominicanboy08 says:

carlos delgado owns andy pettitte, maybe he will have another big day, I hope!

  7. The Glider says:

WTF? Is Fox broadcasting the NY game or the Chicago game?

  8. Jefferies 9 says:

I’m in Brooklyn …. So there is no excuse

  9. adam11216 says:

how can i be in brooklyn and have no way to watch the mets?! that’s just screwed up.

  10. The Glider says:

Guys, if we get fckd with this afternoon’s game, we need a plan of attack against Fox.

  11. Jefferies 9 says:

it might only be cus maybe there is a rain delay ….

  12. johnolerud says:

why is the chicago game on?

  13. bvaz says:

talk about a fan base that dramatizes and overreacts to EVERYTHING.

  14. huge_mets_fan11 says:

I know there is a rain delay, but it would of been nice if Fox let us know this.

  15. ischafer says:

Rain delay notice just went up on the fox game.

  16. grotesmask says:

Whaddya expect? Two first place teams, or two scrub ones?

Mets lineup really looks goofy, and you wonder why we can’t get above .500!

  17. Felix the Cat says:

    Ummm….where’s the game??? Fox %@#$&

  18. huge_mets_fan11 says:

The radio said they are taking the tarp off the field now

  19. Scared me half to death, I didn’t hear about it anywhere until I saw it at bottom

  20. dominicanboy08 says:

rain delay? its sunny here in brooklyn

  21. MetsFan4Decades says:

Jeeze, I just saw the rain delay notice too on Fox. Here on the Jersey shore it just started raining so makes sense. I turned on Fox, saw Chicago and was thinking ‘WTF’????

  22. SuicideWatch says:

So we don’t get to watch the Mets vs. Yanks today??

  23. adam11216 says:

i wish vazquez was still pitching for the yanks.

    • The Glider says:

He was Omar’s guy originally from back in Montreal. I think Omar wanted to bring him to the Mets, but the brass was too scared that he would buckle again under the media pressure of NY.

  24. huge_mets_fan11 says:

It rained where I lived for like 10 mintues and then the sun came right back out so I’m pretty sure the game will start very soon.

  25. adam11216 says:

mark grace sounds like mex after a lobotomy. brutal.

  26. Wellideclare says:

is SNY going take take care of this..

  27. cousinrk says:

For those of you who have never had the pleasure of having the MLB innings package, you get the priviledge of listening to broadcasting talents of one Mark “Slump Buster” Grace. That tool makes me want to jump through the tv and strangle him

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

why is he is so bad?

    • The Glider says:

      Brutal choices:

      Mark Grace v. Wayne Hagin.

      • adam11216 says:

hagin, only b/c that would mean you’re listening to a mets game. hagin doing a cards game vs. grace doing a cubs game would probably be equal forms of torture.

      • huge_mets_fan11 says:

Nevermind, he is horrible. I actually think Hagin is not bad at analzing but I agree, he is terrible at annoucing the game.

      • gottabelieve07 says:

Even Steve Somers was taking subtle shots at Hagin last night on the FAN. Kept saying how it was such a pleasure to hear Howie Rose call a HR for once on the Delgado 8th inning shot in game 1.

Hagin is the worst. Ed Coleman was perfect for the job and has been a staple of Mets baseball forever. To bypass him for Hagin was a joke.

        • huge_mets_fan11 says:

I don’t think Ed Coleman likes to annouce games, he only likes to sub for someone that may be out.

        • The Glider says:

You’re absolutely correct. Eddie C should’ve been given the job over Hagin. Eddie is more knowledgeable about the Mets, has a history with the Mets, and has better chemistry with Howie compared to Hagin.

        • The Glider says:

I don’t think that’s true Huge Mets Fan11. I remember Francesca and Mad Dog grilling Eddie on auditioning for the job. I think he wanted it. Why wouldn’t he?

        • huge_mets_fan11 says:

I guess your right, I thought I remember him saying that he didn’t want to annouce every mets game because he takes a lot of vacation days.

        • The Glider says:

Who knows? In any event, we should circulate a petition for the Mets to rectify this by next year.

The “WE WANT ED INSTEAD” petition.

  28. Wellideclare says:

or is FOX the “owner” of the game
I really don’t want to watch the Cubs.

  29. The Glider says:

Thank God. We’re not going to have to watch the Chicago game.

    LET’S GO METS!

  30. adam11216 says:

did the cubs trade for edmonds or did they claim him? cause i wouldn’t mind seeing him in the OF at shea today.

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

The Padres (of all teams) released him and the Cubs signed him

    • dominicanboy08 says:

yea, he is better than nixon

      • patrick says:

Edmonds ego would not have him in a corner. Nobody puts Baby in a corner.

      • ridethesnake says:

Yes. Unfortunately, Edmonds was signed by the Cubs on May 14 when Alou was playing for two weeks at .364, Church was hitting .324, and both were days away from getting injured. Alou maybe we could have predicted would eventually go down but the lefty bat was needed with Church’s freak injury.

  31. ridethesnake says:

Just thought I would mention to all those that have been bashing about letting Ruben Gotay get away… tying run in on deck circle he grounds out to end the game, capping off an 0-5 day. He is now batting .197 on the season.

    • patrick says:

You’re kidding, you mean Gotay is just not that good?

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

What are you talking about? The Mets were stupid for releasing him because he would fit in perfectly with our other .200 hitting bench players

  32. MetsFan4Decades says:

FOX posting game estimated to start at 4:20 – at which time I’m assuming they’ll switch off to that one, from current Chicago one we’re all seeing….

  33. dominicanboy08 says:

orlando cabrera a long time angel?, these broadcasters $uck

  34. dominicanboy08 says:

    yes!!! lets go mets!!!

  35. cousinrk says:

I just remember when Milledge did his lap down the field shaking hands. And when the Mets faced the D-backs Grace just kept on bashing Milledge, to a point of making fun of him throughout the game. After he flied out, he mocked Milledge saying, “I guess he won’t be giving high fives now” It never ended. Real unprofessional stuff. If you listen to him enough, you realize he’s a real jerk.

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

Good to know, I don’t think I ever heard him annouce a game before. It seems like he roots for his teams (D’Backs, Cubs) more then actually calling it.

  36. MetsFan4Decades says:

I know some of you have been down on Santana lately but I’d much rather see him vs. Pettitte than Perez out there today.

  37. The Glider says:

Gotta tell you, the Yanks do have a very good line-up.

  38. Ok here we go…LGM!!

  39. The Glider says:

Has Santana’s fast ball lost a yard? I thought he threw it around 93-94.

  40. Jefferies 9 says:

Johnny Damon has to be the most awkward baseball player I’ve ever seen ….

  41. The Glider says:

    There’s 93 from Santana. : )

  42. The Glider says:

    Del-glovo with the putout.

  43. The Glider says:

    Hey, Gallinari!! Cool.

    “Book him, Dano!”

  44. The Glider says:

Hey, where the F is everybody? I guess this is what is called “Blogging Masturbation.”

  45. ridethesnake says:

Most people were on here yesterday because they were at work, but today they are watching the game on TV.

  46. Jefferies 9 says:

McCarver loves to bring up the collapse …

  47. The Glider says:

Jerry ought to bring out the Cazalles.

  48. metmaniac89 says:

So, According to Buck and Mccarver when you think of a pitecher on the mets with a good fastball the first person you think of is john maine- NOT JOHAN SANTANA- They are competing with Joe Morgan in ridiculous statements.

    • The Glider says:

Maine does throw harder than Johann.

      • metmaniac89 says:

Yes- but when you think of a pitcher on the Mets(in any “positive” category) if Johan Santana is not first on that list you have issues. And by the way- Big Pelf can throw harder than both of them.

        • The Glider says:

I forgot about Pelfrey. I think him and Maine bring it about the same (93-97 mph). Maine tends to throw the four seam high-rising fast ball and Pelf the two-seam sinker.

        • metmaniac89 says:

I am aware of what and where they throw it. And by the way Johan throws about 94 and can hit 95. My argument is that if you ask almost anybody who has the most dominating fastball for a Mets starting pitcher it is Johan. I dont feel there is any argument for John Maine. It is nooffense to Maine but it is like comparing a strip steak to a Porterhouse- in other words there is just no comparison between the two

  49. metmaniac89 says:

And what happened to Castillo “playing all 4 games of this series”

  50. I hope Pettitte didn’t take his HGH today

  51. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Starting the count – that’s two stranded…

  52. The Glider says:

God, that stache on the Giambino is so gay (”not that there’s anything wrong with that.”)

  53. MetsFan4Decades says:

Pedro tipping his pitches and the Yankees picked up on it??????

  54. MainStMets23 says:

pedro tipping pitches last night is the reasoning behind his getting hit so hard, yankees hitters such as abreu and jeter were all over it

  55. dominicanboy08 says:

    santana looks lock in today

  56. MetsFan4Decades says:

You know, I couldn’t figure out what Pedro’s problem was yesterday b/c it certainly wasn’t his velocity. How does a veteran pitcher suddenly start tipping his pitches? Strange game….

  57. cousinrk says:

Damn, Santana looks focused and Nasty. 25 pitches, mostly strikes. Good so far

  58. MetsFan4Decades says:

Yup – Johan looking sharp so far today. Now can we please get some offense going????

  59. MainStMets23 says:

johan heating up w the weather, looks aamazing thru 2

  60. playmaker3128 says:

I love all the experts and scouts that say santana’s velocity is down. Totally ignoring last start he had where he was hitting 93-94 all game. A start in which santana said his fastball was coming off his hand the best it has all season.

Today guys been hittng 93 all game and touching 94. Just k’d the side. Looking dominant right now, now if we could get him a couple runs.

    • The Glider says:

The book on Johann is that he gets better (throws harder?) as the season progresses. He’s known for his great second halves.

  61. The Glider says:

And the Andy Phillips era has begun.

  62. The Glider says:

    Shrek!

  63. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Yo Ramon !!

  64. MainStMets23 says:

    SHREK!!!

  65. The Glider says:

Ah, Buck paying homage to Gary Cohen (as he should)! “And that ball’s oughta here!”

  66. OrangEandBlue says:

Did anyone else hear Joe Buck make fun of Gary’s home run call? Is he trying to make people hate him?

    • The Glider says:

I thought he was giving props to Gary.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I don’t think that was the case at all.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

No one better in my opinion than calling these games than Gary Cohen. J. Buck is just jealous – hahahaha.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Jealous of what? It wasn’t a knock on him.

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

          O.K., O.K. – I got it.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I actually decided to rewind it since I’m watching this one alone and it wasn’t going to effect anyone else’s enjoyment of the game. I really don’t think there was anything negative in that call. Sounded like he realized after the fact that he made a call very similar to a local guy here, and just kind of gave him a nod.

        • The Glider says:

          Exactly.

  67. The Glider says:

I’d like to find out what percentage of Johan’s pitches today have been strikes. It seems like about 90%.

  68. MetsFan4Decades says:

Damn – how he’d catch that?

  69. The Glider says:

Good point by McCarver re the “interim” tag the Mets put on Manuel. Can’t they do anything right?

    • garykeithron says:

      no

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Once they decided that he was going to get the rest of this year, which was pretty much right away, they should have called him the manager, period. Next year is next year. The last thing this team needed at that point or at any point for the rest of the season is any more instability. And Wright doesn’t have any problem letting the world know that it did create a major distraction.

  70. Dave Kingman says:

Pettite plays with fire everytime he pitches and hardly ever seems to get burned. I’m so sick of Shea Stadium and Citi Field is going to be even more of a pitchers ballpark. Our hitters just have their wings clipped for 81 games a year. It’s no coincidence that we have never had an MVP. I’m not saying bandbox is the way to go, but the field is just terrible to hit in.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

For whatever it’s worth, I think it was Howie Rose who said that they can look at all of the numbers and blueprints in the world for Citi, and call it a moderate pitchers park or whatever they want to call it… But nobody will have any idea what kind of park it will be until they get there. There are just too many variables involved.

  71. garykeithron says:

does anyone else sort of feel like jerry talks a lot without actually saying much?

  72. Dave Kingman says:

The league average for lead off walk scoring is 60%. It’s damn near 100% when we walk the lead off guy. Yankees will take the lead this inning. Game over.

  73. Dave Kingman says:

This will be a 4 run inning for the Yankees.

  74. SuicideWatch says:

    Another Johan Santana special

    • reyesnwright says:

Yeah terrible job by him hitting the corners like that. Not sure what he was thinking.

      • SuicideWatch says:

He walked 2 guys, way to hit the corners

        • reyesnwright says:

hitting the corners and not getting strike calls is still hitting the corners jackass…about 6 of the 8 balls to jeter and abreu were strikes, including strike 3 to jeter.

  75. reyesnwright says:

Well this ump just cost us the game.

  76. metsforever says:

This should just about do it. The Mets already got their run for the day.

  77. metsforever says:

This guy just can’t blow people away like he did in the AL. He looks like a junkballer. I wonder if the Yankees and Red Sox knew something that made them say no

  78. AzMetsFan says:

Did he just say 6 year deal for 13 million per year on Santanas contract? Do they just make this stuff up as they go along?

  79. MetsFan4Decades says:

Can you believe that? What a cheap hit….

  80. metsforever says:

That kind of BS hit happens all the time to the Mets. What is it with this team?

  81. Dave Kingman says:

We are losing tomorrow too. The Twins stole carlos Gomez from us, saved themselves a bunch of money and Santana and his agnest stole 137 million.

  82. Dave Kingman says:

Our dreadful offense will not score again for the rest of this game. Pettite will settle in for one hit ball the rest of the way and Mariano will save it.

  83. let’s see if the ump stays consistent with his crappy strike zoke

  84. Dave Kingman says:

I want to puke again watching this team.

  85. reyesnwright says:

Suicide watch/Kingman, why do you guys even follow the mets or post here? Santana has given up one hard hit ball all game, got totally squeezed last inning and we are still only down 2-1 with 6 innings left to hit. If you’re giving up now what the hell is the point of ever rooting for them?

    • metsforever says:

You still have to root, but have you watched any games this year? We are not exactly the comeback kings. With the exception of Friday afternoon, the Mets are basically 1 inning a game and then phone it in. They do pretty much suck. I wonder if Santana has any regrets about selling out the Twins?

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

The reality is that anyone who has been a Mets fan for long enough doesn’t have to expect their team to win, because historically, they haven’t. Being less than optimistic doesn’t make anyone any less of a fan.

Hell, I wouldn’t want to be a fan of a team that had a fanbase who walked around counting their championships of years and years ago and acted like they had something coming to them. That’s not the team we support. It’s the team we’re playing right now.

    • skylog says:

one hard hit ball with two walks to lead off the inning. last nite? pedro? walks. this whole staff simply gives up too many walks. the staff also gets ahead on so many occasions only to give up hits or yes, walks.

      • metsforever says:

That’s because if they throw strikes, they get smoked. This staff is a bunch of fraidy cats and junkballers. I don’t know if that was the Jacket’s doing or what, but have you ever seen more 3-2 counts, or 2 out hits given up by any other team?

        • skylog says:

i am glad it is just not me. when the count goes 1-2, i don’t even feel as if the mets have the advantage.

  86. Dave Kingman says:

Delgado’s 9 rbi day was just a freaky thing off horrible pitching. He should still be dfa’d. mark this down, we will only have one more hit the whole rest of this game.

  87. IsiahRandolph says:

dont expect anything- this team is trash… .500 trash

  88. Dave Kingman says:

They are still my favorite team, but I just call em as I see em. If you notice I’m usually right, or pretty damn close to being right.

    • Metskin says:

No you’re not. The Twins “stole” Carlos Gomez from the Mets? You’re a complete idiot.

    • reyesnwright says:

I guess i’m the only one who thought that several of those pitches last inning there were called balls were really strikes…if so i’ll take back what i’ve been saying, but i can’t get on santana for not getting calls on pitches that appeared to be on the corners.

      • skylog says:

i am not saying they may not have been, but if you are not getting calls, you can’t keep doing the same thing and expect to get different results….insanity i tell you

      • he was definitely getting squeezed. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ump has a yankee tattoo on his a$$

  89. metsforever says:

St. Derek can’t get an error? Please.

    • garykeithron says:

and yet it was shea scorers who determined that

      • metsforever says:

All of the press guys in NY think he can do no wrong. They won’t even admit that ARod is a way better player.

    • skylog says:

and of course the perfect double play ball. this game just has the ‘normal’ or shoud i say average feel to it. i am hoping they can pull it out, given at the moment they are only one run down, but this season (or 200+ games or so) has just left me more of a the cup is 3/4 emtpy kind of guy.

  90. Dave Kingman says:

Phillips and Nixon were terrible pick-ups, but that’s what happens when there is no minor league depth. Omar has left this team handcuffed.

    • sherlockcollector says:

I agree. The Front Office had to know that although they could potentially put out a competitive team there were 3-5 positions that were very likely to be susceptible to injuries during the season – LF, 2nd base, 1B, 2 pitching minimum. I was fairly neutral on Willie, probably more on the negative side, but OVERALL a manager is only as good as his players. This is an OLD team with very few near ready prospects. I guarantee you though that the Mets are going to insist that they have a great chance to win the division or WC and will import some more bums. I can’t stand this team, OMAR, HoJo and especially the Front Office.

  91. Dave Kingman says:

skylog, you’re totally correct it’s been the walks that kill this staff. It seem like every time we walk a gu he comes around to score. The Yankees are smart. They see that the ump has a smallK zone so they take pitches. Our line-up goes up there and just hacks for the most part. It makes me sick to have to root for people like Tatis and Phillips and Nixon etc.

    • grmetsfan says:

I dont have as much of a problem with Tatis but this team can’t win putting guys like Anderson, Nixon and Phillips in the outfield everyday.

We have a terrible offensive and defensive outfield today, how do you in your right mind put a career journeyman first basemen in LF. Just let chavez play so our outfield can atleast play defense.

      • skylog says:

that is the reality. the lineup has more holes than a 5000 lb piece of swiss. that is what makes it even more painful, they will win a few, lose a few….seemingly never able to get over the 500 mark. given all of the problems and everything going on with the team, if they could somehow manage to get some health perhaps they could do something.

sadly, i do not think it will ever happen. so we root for nixon, phillips, tatis and the like.

regardless, let’s go mets. pull this one out and get over 500 tomorrow. a man can dream right?

  92. reyesnwright says:

I guess i’m the only one who thought that several of those pitches last inning there were called balls were really strikes…if so i’ll take back what i’ve been saying, but i can’t get on santana for not getting calls on pitches that appeared to be on the corners.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Well, I think Manual agreed with you b/c it appeared he has some words with the ump walking off the field. And maybe that was the whole reason for him to go to the mound himself. Not so much to talk to Santana but to get some words in with the ump since technically, you can’t argue ball/strikes…

    • skylog says:

i am not saying they may not have been, but if you are not getting calls, you can’t keep doing the same thing and expect to get different results….insanity i tell you

      • JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

What are you supposed to do then, throw meatballs in the heart of the plate?

        • reyesnwright says:

exactly, when doing the “same thing” is trying (and succeeding in) hitting the corners, i have no problem with him doing this when the alternative is giving them good pitches to hit.

        • skylog says:

maybe not continue to try to paint every corner on every pitch?

        • skylog says:

if the “same thing” is not working, you need to do something. like i said, i thought several of those were strikes, but the reality was they weren’t getting called.

  93. metsforever says:

Does anybody think the Mets could get a decent prospect from the Yankees for Show? They are pretty desparate. I know everybody thinks we should just say f the Yankees, but they have a decent minor league system and their bullpen sucks. They have no LHP and you can’t win like that.

  94. Dave Kingman says:

    Now 8 9 1 go down 1 2 3.

  95. SantanaCYYOung says:

the bats go unbelievably quiet after the 5th inning of games, especially if they are down

  96. SantanaCYYOung says:

watch here comes another 1-2-3 inning

  97. playmaker3128 says:

What i want to know is why pettitie seems to be getting the outside corner and johan wasn’t. It was clear several of those pitches to jeter and abreau were strikes. Yet twice this inning so far, both to johan and castro i’ve seen pettite get that borderline pitch.

  98. skylog says:

can they get the two out hit,,,,,or did they kill the next inning by going through the lineup?

  99. metsforever says:

The Yankees will retire the final 13 today.

  100. playmaker3128 says:

Would love to see wright just get a hit here, not try and be overanxious, at least tie the game, get us and santana the momentum back.

  101. skylog says:

come on. here it is david

  102. skylog says:

    unreal

  103. MainStMets23 says:

    DOH!

  104. skylog says:

on that note, i am out for the day. good luck.

  105. Dave Kingman says:

Jose you are a base running idiot. The Yankees win! Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yankees win!

  106. metsforever says:

Reyes is an idiot. Can’t blame that on Willie

    • sherlockcollector says:

This is at least the third time in recent memory Reyes has made a terrible base running mistake while on second. He is tremendously talented but one of the stupidist players I’ve ever encountered. He is like an idiot savant.

  107. SuicideWatch says:

    WHY GOD WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY!!!!

  108. WrightsRight says:

    Reyes is a jacka$$….

Honestly, these guys are out of Idiocracy….pettitte=best pick-off move in baseball.

BTW being picked off and his ignorant bases loaded at-bat last night…..

  109. Hellbelly says:

Jose Reyes is the Idiot Savant of Baseball…………

    ………………minus the Savant.

    • sherlockcollector says:

LOL I just wrote the same thing. He’s like the rainman or Reyesman.

  110. SuicideWatch says:

and now Santana will give up another 2 spot in the 6th (like a true ace) and the Mets will lose 4-1.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

two more runs and the game is over, the mets haven’t won when trailing by 3 runs or more

  111. Dave Kingman says:

That’s it folks. The Yankees are still the kings of New York. We had a small run in the 80’s. But, that was tainted with drugs and eventually some of our star players becoming Yankees in the 90’s for a dynasty.

  112. SantanaCYYOung says:

what’s the point of stealing third there? are you telling me he can’t score on a single from second anymore?

this team isn’t going anywhere just wait until the phillies get hot again, we won’t be able to keep up

  113. metsforever says:

    BREAKING NEWS:

Santana’s agent has just demanded a trade to a team with a chance to be a contender in the next 5 years. The Twins have been mentioned as a possible landing spot. Omar Minaya had no comment

    • WrightsRight says:

Twins are awesome. When was the last time the Mets won 10 in a row….?

      • WrightsRight says:

And the Twins are batting like .350 with RISP…that’s how you win 10 in a row.

  114. SuicideWatch says:

Hey, but the Mets are 3-0 at Yankee Stadium this year. Highlight of the seaon.

  115. grmetsfan says:

Pettitte had no clue, that was a sign from the catcher and Reyes should know that all the pitcher has to do is turn around and throw him out.

Reyes continues to run us out of innings with his base running. When is this going to end?

  116. WrightsRight says:

I mean, seriously, what is reyes thinking with Wright up…why would he even be thinking of running?

Basesball IQ=academic probation for these morons.

  117. AzMetsFan says:

wow, these guys are downright attrocious. Reyes gets picked off second, probably while singing Jose…. Jose Jose Jose to himself. How does anybody pay to see this garbage product they put on the field.

  118. metsforever says:

This will be a walk to ARod

  119. kd bart says:

If I was managing the Mets, Reyes would be sitting in the clubhouse right now.

    • WrightsRight says:

I tend to agree, but since he’s 12 years old he’ll probably mope and cry for the rest of the season.

I’m still stewing over that vintage September 07 act of sheer stupidity.

  120. SantanaCYYOung says:

i am so glad i’m not going to be around for a month this summer, by the time i get back i will be already used to not watching the mets

  121. metsforever says:

    HR to Giambi.

  122. SuicideWatch says:

Here we go….WOW, I didn’t see that walk coming.

I’d really rather have Carlos Gomez back.

  123. garykeithron says:

santana’s going to lose the game 2-1 and demand a trade to a team that scores runs for him

    • SuicideWatch says:

If Santana loses this game 2-1, then he should run to locker room and look in the mirror.

  124. metsforever says:

    These announcers are cruel.

  125. SuicideWatch says:

Johan Santana is the East Coast Barry Zito

  126. Two-By-Four says:

I may be wrong because I didn’t check the stats and I am doing this strictly from memory but I don’t remember HoJo as being a patient hitter that worked the count. If my memory is correct then I question whether or not HoJo is the correct hitting coach for this squad.

  127. metsforever says:

    obvious

  128. WrightsRight says:

Umpires hate the Mets and hate Santana….other teams’ pitchers get away with that vs. the Mets.

  129. metsforever says:

giambi will homer anyway so the balk may not mean anything. This might be over after this half inning anyway.

  130. X-Man says:

Nice homer. Santana = 8 strike outs

    • metsforever says:

      so i’m 1 for 2. I had Arod’s walk.

I just don’t like the look of the inning. And I was for the Santana deal and would do it again in a minute. Unfortunately, I fell under the Omar spell and thought the team would be fairly decent.

  131. SantanaCYYOung says:

question: heilman hasn’t been allowed to start because he’s only a two pitch pitcher, but what other pitch does Santana throw aside from a fastball and a change?????????????/

    • The .500 Club says:

      Slider.

      • The .500 Club says:

Also, Santana’s change up is one of the best in baseball, while Aaron’s is above average.

    • SuicideWatch says:

      A “show me” slider

“show me” means he doesn’t throw it anywhere near the plate because it’s a C- pitch.

    • garykeithron says:

i can’t remember where I heard this – espn maybe? Someone mentioned that he has a high elbow when he pitches which generally doesn’t translate to being able to pitch many innings. So they said the mets were trying to protect his arm

  132. X-Man says:

    No run support, as usual.

  133. The .500 Club says:

This is what happens when you have 4 bench players and Delgado in your lineup. The lineup is done once you get past Beltran.

    • SuicideWatch says:

Does Santana get any blames from anyone?? I’d respect him more if the runs came off a 3-run HR or 3 solo shots, but every run that has scored is because Santana walked the batter.

  134. X-Man says:

    100% correct. Nice job Omar

  135. X-Man says:

Petite just basically has to worry about three hitters; Reyes, Wright and belteran…………………That’s it.

Santana has to worry about 8! Big difference wouldn’t you say?

  136. metsforever says:

That stat says it all. Who is worse?

  137. SantanaCYYOung says:

game over, why wasn’t feliciano brought in to face cano?

    • SuicideWatch says:

Well, Santana is suppose to be an Ace…he can’t get the .240 hitting Cano out???

      • X-Man says:

He’s at .240 now but he has been hot AND the guy almosr won a batting title, come on. Mets don’t come close to having a hitter of that quality batting down in the batting order, not even close.

    • WrightsRight says:

feliciano would’ve hit or walked cano….

  138. metsforever says:

Nobody on this staff can finish an inning. It is an embarrassment

  139. SuicideWatch says:

Does Santana get any blame from anyone?? I’d respect him more if the runs came off a 3-run HR or 3 solo shots, but every run that has scored is because Santana walked the batter.

    • The .500 Club says:

Honestly, how can you blame someone who gives up 3 runs over 6 innings to the best lineup in baseball? Sure, it would be nice to see him go 8 and give up 1 run, but it would be nicer to see the lineup put up more than 1 run in 9 innings.

  140. SantanaCYYOung says:

    this team sucks

  141. X-Man says:

It’s sad that we are only down by two runs but when it comes to the Mets Offense it might as well be 10!

  142. WrightsRight says:

santana won’t be here in 2 yrs. he’ll demand a trade. there’s only so much a man can take when he’s getting ZERO run support.

    • metsforever says:

They will get nothing for him, so he is pretty much stuck here. There are only 2 other teams who can afford the bill and they already said no.

Sometimes going for top dollar is not in your best interest.

      Mets 08 = Knicks 08

    • SuicideWatch says:

I wish they could trade this deadbeat NOW. He knew coming in that the Mets weren’t scoring a ton of run. He could man up and be the “best pitcher in baseball” and Shout out a team and win 1-0 for a change. Can’t he??

    • X-Man says:

Yep, he should have at least 10 wins by now if he was playing for a team that can hit.

  143. Dave Kingman says:

Jose does not bring any intangibles to this team. That’s okay because he and all the other latin players are protected by Uncle Omar and Uncle Tony as well as the overwhelming amount of latin coaches and scouts we employ. This team is really starting to lose fans because of this. Call them racist or whatever you want, but many people point this out and no longer follow this team.

    • X-Man says:

Agree. Too one-dimentional. I think they rather be dancing salsa than winning ball games.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

who cares who follows the team or not, this team sucks because of perez, anderson, castillo, easley, phillps, tatis, heilman, showenweis, pedro, perez, delgado, schneider, alou and all the other players that can’t get a big out or can’t get a big hit

    • scottmetsfan says:

      call “THEM” racist?

  144. drodro22 says:

santana earn your mother f-in money!!!!!

  145. kd bart says:

You know how hard it is to go out there and pitch when you know you have no margin for error? Give up 3 runs and you basically have an 75-80% chance of losing.. You pitch for the Cubs and give up 3 runs, you have a 75-80% chance of winning.

  146. drodro22 says:

i hope he does demand a trade so we can get people who actually play baseball

  147. metsforever says:

Santana must be perfect and who can ask for that? No pitcher can be expected to throw a 1 run game every time out, which the Mets offense practically demands. Maybe that’s why they all try to hit the corner and nibble on every at bat. They know that 3 runs equals a loss

    • kd bart says:

Thank you for getting it. When you have no margin for error because your offense stinks, you tend to try to make the perfect pitch on every pitch. It’s easy to pitch when you are up 5-0. All you have to do is rear back and fire.

  148. SantanaCYYOung says:

at least the mets have the yankee bullpen for 3 innings (rivera in the 9th dosen’t count)

  149. WrightsRight says:

I love Reyes but he needs to stop relying on his talent. He needs to focus, he needs to think, he needs to be smart. He has to know who the pitcher is, who is up at the plate, how many outs there are – not just how many steals he has and where that stacks up on the leader board. Someone has to drill this into him. Somone like Wright has to get in his face and order him to “Think!”… i mean, how could he be so stupid? Wright might’ve gotten out but a single changes the game. Reyes might’ve eventually popped out with the bases loaded last night but at least he could take some pitches from a struggling pitcher. He and Oliver Perez alone drive this team’s collective intelligence to the bottom of the league.

  150. Dave Kingman says:

This team lacks so many things, but of all the veterans they have not one of them plays with fire. The young guys are thinking about which dance club they are going to tonight and the veterans just go through the motions.

  151. X-Man says:

Well, that’s assuming he’s capable of thinking and as far as being smart……………………….now you’re pushing it, big time!

  152. kd bart says:

Bob Gibson pitched to a 1.12 ERA in 1968 and still lost 9 games. You can’t win if your team can’t score for you. To demand a 1-0 shutout from him everytime out is plain ridiculous. This team simply is awful offensively. No consistency. Can score 15 in one game and then score 4 runs over the next 3.

  153. Dave Kingman says:

I was simply pointing out what a lot of people say about this ball club. I’m not sure if I buy into it one hundred percent, but Omar certainly has a history of taking care of friends and most of his friends are latino. Look at the team, front office and scouts. Most are latino. The numbers don’t lie.

  154. vivalosmets says:

i dont know what is worse, watching the met game today or listening to mark grace

  155. AlreadyMissShea says:

I’m a big fan of Santana, and I’m glad he’s here, but as long as everyone is kind of down on him today…

I did lose a little bit of respect for him when he called out David Wright for making that error right before he gave up the grand slam. I’m no David Wright apologist either, just a big fan, like I am of Santana too… And Wright needed to make that play…

BUT. You’re Johan Santana. You cash every one of those checks that come your way because you are the best pitcher in baseball. As well you should. But the best pitcher in baseball shouldn’t be giving up a grand slam to a pitcher no matter HOW the bases were loaded. His responsibility when the pitcher got in the box was to get him out. He didn’t do that. He shouldn’t have said anything about anyone else.

  156. drodro22 says:

Johan walked too many guys and gives up a hit to robinson cano, who BLOWS, im sorry he is not a good baseball player, if you are an ace, YOU GET HIM OUT

    • vivalosmets says:

true, but God for bid the mets get a key hit and moron reyes does not get picked off

  157. Dave Kingman says:

Yes, aces pitch out of jams. Johan seems to have given up a lot of two out hits to score runs.

  158. drodro22 says:

correct on calling david wright out…..to me, i dont care about your numbers, win a world series johan, then come talk to me…..

  159. Dave Kingman says:

    Wright should’ve made that play.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I said he should have. But Johan Freaking Santana should not be giving up a grand slam to Felix Hernandez. The best pitcher in baseball gets the pitcher out after someone makes an error behind him. So this time he didn’t. OK, it happens. But then he shouldn’t be talking about anyone else. I had a few days to think about that and just wanted to get it off my chest.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

And now that I did, I’m still a big fan of his, and still glad he’s here. I know it will pay off in due time.

  160. Dave Kingman says:

Perez pitches tomorrow. What a scary thought.

  161. gottabelieve07 says:

Two of Santana’s runs in this game were a direct result of the strike zone suddenly changing in the 4th inning. He definitely got squeezed on a few key pitches and that cost him.

The other run was all Yankees offense.

So he gave up 3 runs in 6 innings to a potent offense while dealing with an umpire who’s had an inconsistent strike zone.

His record is what it is mainly because this team has no offense. How much longer do we have to watch the likes of Trot Nixon and Andy Phillips in LF, with no one in RF, and an automatic out at 1st base (1 freakish game aside)??

This team simply has too many offensive holes for any pitcher to consistently win.

    • kd bart says:

Petite basically gets a break in the lineup 2 out of every 3 innings. A chance to relax when he gets to the bottom part of the Met order. Santana has to go out there and grind it out every inning. There are no breaks in the Yankee lineup other than Petite. There is no inning when the likes of Delgado-Tatis-Phillips are coming up.

  162. dr jones says:

Hey what can you do? This group just doesn’t have the balls or the heart. After attending 5 of the final 7 games at the end of last season I can’t get myself to make the effort. 4 hours of traffic 150$ day for what exactly? They play hard for 2 games and sh!t the bed for the next 3 and so on. They think there something they are not. I guess thats what happens when kids make 10 mil a year.

    • The .500 Club says:

“Heart” and “balls” have nothing to do with it. The problem with the Mets is that their lineup includes 4 bench players, and a seriously declining Delgado. If you don’t have talent, you cannot win, regardless of “balls” and “heart.”

      • X-Man says:

Again, 100% correct. It’s all about the talent you put out there on the field. This line-up is pittifull, any pitcher can pitch around Wright and Beltran.

        • kd bart says:

5-9 are just not going to string enough hits together consistently to score a lot of runs. If all you have to fear is Wright and Beltran in a big moment, you can pitch around them. It doesn’t help in a situation where they have to pitch to Wright that Reyes gets picked off. It might have been your last big chance to score.

      • dr jones says:

Yea your right. other than our big 3 this lineup is pathetic. I guess I get hypnotized by the 2 or 3 games a week when they actually click. Heart and guts do play into it though. This team should be at least 5 games over .500.

        • kd bart says:

Guys like Nixon, Tatis and Phillips shouldn’t be on a major league roster, yet the Mets have to play two of the three everyday or play Marlon Anderson who should not start at this point.

  163. X-Man says:

Correct. Not even Bob Gibson, sandy Koufax, Tom Seaver, Branden Web, etc. etc. etc. would win more than 12 games with this pittifull offense behind them. Period

  164. drodro22 says:

the strike zone thing is a typical yankees mythology thing from umpires who want to give the benefit to that team……btw, andy pettitte is a disgraced CHEATER, the only reason he admitted it is b/c he GOT CAUGHT….

also, the fact that Jeter doesnt get an error on that clear error is a JOKE……..

there is a reason football dominates baseball, and it’s because its very tiring seeing the same teams win in the same way every single year in this sport.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

“there is a reason football dominates baseball, and it’s because its very tiring seeing the same teams win in the same way every single year in this sport.”

I’ll agree with that, except for the fact that the Giants are going to repeat!

    • washtiger says:

I always have to laugh when I hear that Pettitte said he used HGH only “once” — c’mon, does he really think baseball fans are that stupid? Well, maybe Yankee fans are!

  165. Dave Kingman says:

    drodro22, well written.

  166. Dave Kingman says:

It’s amazing how Pettite is part of an FBI investigation, testifies before Congress and still pitches like nothing happened. Meanwhile Bonds is under federal indictment, can;t get a job to save his life and will most likely do time. Granted their situations are different yet they still stem from the same thing.

  167. drodro22 says:

also, i love how the umpires waited until after the yanks score a run to delay the game…….

if u dont think MLB wants the yanks to do well you are an idiot…..

  168. drodro22 says:

pettitte making the H of F is sending a message “do performance enhancing drugs, and make the hall of fame kids!”

    • X-Man says:

Need to add…………………………..”Do performace enhancing drugs, and if yoyu’re white and a yankee……………make the Hall Of Fame Kids! “

  169. Dave Kingman says:

I don’t think it’s race thing, I think it’s more about one guy is known as a good, family man who happens to play on the most popular team in all of professional sports and the other as a bit of a prick.

    • drodro22 says:

and barry bonds being black makes him automatically a villain as compared to all american andy…..

      • dr jones says:

Barry bonds has been a prick his entire baseball career. So its not that black and white..

      • metsforever says:

Clemens took a big hit too. If you are a dick your whole life you don’t get the benefit of the doubt, black or white. Pettite is an all American boy, so he gets a pass

    • X-Man says:

Regardless, Cheating is cheating my man, shouldn’t be any double standards.

    • djsunyc says:

maybe it’s b/c one guy admitted it while the other guy still denies it? maybe that has a little to do with it.

  170. Dave Kingman says:

Of course MLB wants the Yankees to do the well. The revenue they generate is second to none. No one is going to do back flips on a national level if the Rays or any other small market team win a world series.

    • drodro22 says:

and THAT is why the NFL is king

      • X-Man says:

NFL is the model all sports should try to copy. They had Drug enforcement way before baseball and the revenue sharing and most importantly,, the Salary Cap has made it so any team can win in any given year.

  171. vivalosmets says:

poll: yes or no, the mets come back and win this game. As much as we want to see it

    • kd bart says:

The only chance is if the delay is long enough that Pettite doesn’t come back out. They may have a chance against the Yanks bullpen in innings 6-8.

  172. X-Man says:

If this was 2006, I’d say definitely YES. 2008 Mets? Don’t hold your breath.

  173. Dave Kingman says:

Mcarver is talking about Pettite to the hall. He f-ing admitted to cheating. People want to give him credit for being honest. He was only being honest about it because the evidence was blatant. He’s no saint. Giambi is another one. It’s like it never happened.

    • drodro22 says:

it’s the “im sorry” concept……after u get caught doing something bad, if you say im sorry, it makes it ok……

of course we know where this concept comes from…..

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

He wasn’t even honest. What did he say, he did it twice?

      Come on.

And if he wasn’t named he wouldn’t have even given up that much. Some Hall of Fame candidate.

      • X-Man says:

Hall of Fame my you know what! A cheater is a cheater, whether you admit to it or not doesn’t change the fact that your numbers shouldn’t be taken seriously.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

I feel bad for the guys who played the game the right way because they actually cared about the game, and ended up falling JUST short with their numbers. Going forward the definition for what makes someone a Hall of Famer needs to change.

  174. Dave Kingman says:

Pete Rose certainly had to lay in the bed he made for himself, but he is banned for life and never cheated.

  175. drodro22 says:

mets fans are masochists, yankees fans are sadists…….

  176. Dave Kingman says:

Let’s see what else can I bitch about?

  177. Church4prez says:

    r they gonna play?

  178. Dave Kingman says:

I’ll say one positive thing. We have a few teenagers in our system like Wilmer Flores and Jeffrey Marte that can flat out play for being only 16 and 17. Fernando Martinez had 3 hits in AA last night and he is hitting 290. The pitcher we drafted in the supplementat 1st round has also thrown very well.

    • drodro22 says:

where did those guys come from??? were they recently signed?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I heard some good things abou tthat Wilmer Flores (don’t know anything about Marte). I know Flores is only 16 though. Too bad ’cause he’s too young to help out now.

  179. X-Man says:

Alou is possible for the Phillies series, they are mentioning on the FAN.

  180. AlreadyMissShea says:

Ed Coleman: “At some point we will see El Duque.”

    • X-Man says:

      Priceless. LOL

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

I’m probably in the minority, but I wish they would have cut their losses with Alou AND El Duque. There’s too much waiting for people to come back where this team is concerned. You wait for Church to come back because this was all a big freak thing and assuming he’s OK now he will help the team everyday. These other guys… Even when they do come around, they’re good just long enough to make everyone think that everything is gonna be OK. Then they’re broken again. Time is running out when it comes to waiting for the senior citizens to help this team turn things around.

        • X-Man says:

100% correct. That was Omar’s biggest mistake in the off-season, relying too much on these old players to contribute.

  181. Dave Kingman says:

That’s great El Duque and Alou, but is it really possible to assume that they will be able to contribute for any lengthy amount of time. They both seem to get hurt from just normal baseball activities.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Alou and El Duque will both come back the same day, welcome each other back with a firm handshake, and break each others’ fingers.

  182. X-Man says:

Maybe if we hang around a few games out of first till late August and early Sept and we get these guys back, they could give us that extra push before they get hurt again. That’s about all we can expect from these guys.

  183. Dave Kingman says:

Flores was signed as an international free agent. He was the top offensive player available last year. He is from Venezuela, 6′3″, 175, plays short and won’t be 17 until August. He is hitting 388 in Kingsport.

  184. X-Man says:

LOL, Yankees have no confidence in their bullpen, the FAN is saying that Petite is coming back out! Don’t know if that’s true but that’s what they’re saying.

  185. Dave Kingman says:

Flores is raw but he has all the tools. He hasn’t drawn a walk yet, but he bats third in the minor leagues as a 16 year old. I’m 33 and to put that in perspective I just think about what I was doing at 16.

  186. domosnacks5 says:

I thought there’s no way he’s getting a hit after fouling one off his lead foot that hard.

    Then he hits one out.

    I believe.

  187. playmaker3128 says:

Wright, great piece of hitting, now lets get 2 more and get santana a win.

  188. vivalosmets says:

should be 4-3. maybe santana screamed at them during the delay to get him a win

  189. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Yes – D-Wright.
Here’s hoping that a sign that 53 minute rain delay for Pettitte screwed with his rhythm….

  190. skylog says:

one step closer. can anyone point me to the mets home runs broken down by men on?

it has got to be an insane number of solo shots.

  191. WrightsRight says:

Great hitting, DWright…Beltran’s gotta take the bat off the shoulder there with 2 strikes…delgado plummeting back to earth…..

  192. EV says:

Yea like we can count on El Duque and Alou. I got two words to sum up the Mets: INCONSISTENT OFFENSE. That’s the story of this team. They come out yesterday afternoon scoring 15 runs and looking like world beaters and then the next two games they score ONE RUN. I mean good teams don’t do that, a good team doesn’t get shut out by Sidney freaking Ponson. Now on to Santana, he hasn’t been great, and you can blast him for todays start if you want, but giving up 3 runs to me is a quality start. I think their season will probably be over after this roadtrip coming up when they go 2-6 or something like that.

  193. skylog says:

on another note, this team must be the most inconsistent team i have ever watched.

  194. WrightsRight says:

Okay, now let’s power ‘em down…….

  195. Dave Kingman says:

Would anyone on here be surprised if Delgado doesn’t have another rbi for a week after yesterday?

  196. EV says:

Damn, how big does Reyes BONEHEAD play on second know. Skylog I agree with you, I think they do hit ALOT of solo home runs

  197. kd bart says:

By the time the Mets have another serious chance to score in this game, it will probably be Mariano time. Next inning is three automatic outs.

  198. EV says:

Hells no Kingman, Delgado is probably done for anothe month at least.

  199. Dave Kingman says:

Tatis needs to go. Takes strikes, swings at balls.

  200. WrightsRight says:

when louis castillo is pinch hitting for your team, your problems run very, very, very, very deep.

    • X-Man says:

Great Pinch Hitter! A slap hitter pinch hitting, now I’ve seen it all. Unbelievable.

  201. vivalosmets says:

could have sworn this guy was hurt

  202. WrightsRight says:

i love mccarver talking about the mets chances of scoring w/2 out….he did his research…

  203. The Glider says:

C’mon Jose, please don’t pop up.

  204. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Thank you, Mr. Reyes.

  205. vivalosmets says:

jose jose jose jose jose jose . what a player

  206. The Glider says:

Way to do what I told you not to do Jose.

  207. Dave Kingman says:

I wish I had a dollar for every time Reyes comes up in a big spot, swings at the first pitch, drops his shoulder and pops up to the left side.

  208. WrightsRight says:

MY GOODNESS…..WHAT IS HIS PROBLEM????!!!!!!! Why does he continue to do that? Does he ever learn. I could train a dog to do his job.

Jeez, just stop it and grow a brain. At least pretend to try to learn how to play this game. What a joke! I

  209. skylog says:

first pitch pop up. unreal, once again. can he please take a $@#%&# pitch ever?

man, i was talking about solo shots before, how about reyes pop ups to the left side of the field?

    • WrightsRight says:

he’s made a career of it. It was cute when he was a rookie. Now it’s a habit and a horrible, costly one at that. I would fine him $1,000 every time he popped up to the left side on the first pitch. I would tie him to a chair Clockwork Orange style and make him watch that for days on end until it makes him physically ill to even think of dropping his shoulders and swinging at the first pitch again.

  210. X-Man says:

I don’t need to be so rich, .50 cents will do for me.

  211. Dave Kingman says:

Well after we lose this one and tomorrows game, then the Cardinals will kill us followed by the fighting Phillies regaining a hot streak against us we’ll be able to officially call this season a wash. But our stubborn front office won’t admit it and refuse to trade veterans for youngsters.

  212. The Glider says:

    Our last hope: Farnsworth.

  213. skylog says:

they were once again better off it marlon just got out. then at least reyes would have lead off and maybe not popped up. of course, after stealing second he would have gotten picked off, so i guess we’ll just call it even

  214. EV says:

Can some on this freaking team get a two out clutch hit ever? I’m sure we are probably close to and or if not last in that category too.

  215. X-Man says:

EV, we just don’t have the players to compete, it’s that simple. We have four bench players and Delgado starting.

    • EV says:

I hear what you are saying X-Man, but this whole year we NEVER get two out clutch hits, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Wright’s in Anaheim.

  216. Dave Kingman says:

Farnsworth will strike out the side. It must be really fun to be a Red Sox fan or a Yankees fan. Being a Mets fan flat out sucks. It’s like being born with a bum leg or something. Just can never get ahead. My uncle made me a Mets fan from the get go. I hate him for it.

  217. MetsFan4Decades says:

Robbed! He so clearly tagged him.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

A Yankee got the benefit of a bad call. I will remember this day forever, until it happens again tomorrow anyway.

  218. EV says:

Knowing the Mets, they will make Farnsworth look like an All Star like they did for fat Sidney Ponson last night.

  219. skylog says:

well, ripped off again. they’ll score and put an end to all hope

  220. vivalosmets says:

not even delgado’s fault i dont know how many times carlos has bailed out this “Gold Glove” third basemen

  221. MetsFan4Decades says:

Shoulda smacked him hard on the head. Maybe the ump would have seen that.

  222. The Glider says:

Not to bring up a sore issue for some (moi?), but can we all agree that the reason this team sucks now is not because of the manager?

    • skylog says:

agreed, but maybe they suck less

      • The Glider says:

The evidence does not support your proposition, unfortunately.

        • skylog says:

well, i guess i am struggling with the scientific definition of “suck.” if they pull this one out, then perhaps the evidence swings in my favor?

for more empirical evidence, i have not seen manuel mess up a double-switch yet. that has to be a +1 for me

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

They suck pretty much the same, and it doesn’t really matter who manages this team this year, but the change was still for the better in my opinion. They could have given Willie the rest of the year and it probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference. But I don’t know if Willie even really wanted the job as much as we think he did by the time he was fired.

    • X-Man says:

Not the Manager, just no players other than Reyes, Wright, Beltran and Church. That’s it. It’s time to start getting on Omar’s case.

    • metsforever says:

Never is the manager. But you can’t fire the players. Willie was gone after the season anyway and something had to be done around here.

  223. WrightsRight says:

mets never get the call. ever.

  224. skylog says:

wonder if arod will get picked off?

  225. EV says:

    Hells yea Glider.

  226. skylog says:

    two out clutch rbi?

  227. skylog says:

did anyone else think during the delay…man, watch david will hit the home run when he comes up next inning? just curious

  228. Dave Kingman says:

If we are out of it I wonder if the Mets would consider trading Sanchez? He could bring back a top notch young player. I know he’s good, but we can finish in fourth place with him or without him.

    • X-Man says:

Only reason we would finish as ‘High” as forth place is because the NL East is a joke.

  229. EV says:

To be honest skylog, I thought so yea, because a stupid bonehead play that Reyes made will bite you in the butt every time. Just like last night sitting through that massacre you just knew leaving the bases loaded twice and scoring no runs would bite you in the butt.

    • skylog says:

yeah, i said that to myself last night. you can’t blow that many chances and not expect it to come back and get you.

  230. vivalosmets says:

this is it folks. due or die situation

  231. playmaker3128 says:

Well that might have been the best i’ve seen duaner all season.

Now lets score a run. We should at least be able to get a couple baserunners vs farnsworth.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Problem is we’re into Rivera territory right now. We need another HR unfortunately. A runner in scoring position means Rivera comes in for a five out save.

  232. vivalosmets says:

    1 pitch, enough said

  233. WrightsRight says:

patience….love the patience on these “professional” hitters

  234. The Glider says:

Wouldn’t behoove these players to make Farnsworth throw a few pitches rather than swinging at the first pitch.

  235. skylog says:

well, robbed again. at least this time it was legitimate

  236. X-Man says:

I just don’t understand how long these “geniuses” in charge are going to wait until they address the sad situation with this Mets Line-up. How long are they willing to to keep putting this minor league hitting team out there? I assume they are seeing and watching the same things we are.

    • The Glider says:

      Pelfrey for Nady?

      • X-Man says:

While Nady would definitely help, I can’t see giving Pelfrey up, I think his upside to too huge.

      • metsforever says:

        Not worth it.

Pelfrey looks like he is coming around and Nady will not make this group into a winner. There are way too many holes. We have to seriously consider the proposition that this season is over. I pray that Omar doesn’t do anything stupid to try to save himself.

  237. kd bart says:

    Ballgame!!

The Mets don’t have a chance in the ninth.

  238. WrightsRight says:

    4Ks ….. the horror, the horror……..

  239. vivalosmets says:

golden sombrero. wooooo. cant you just see delgado hitting a game tying home run against rivera?

  240. EV says:

Beltran you suck!!!! Farnsworth 4 ERA pitches against the Mets ALL STAR

  241. Dave Kingman says:

Mariano will strike out the side to win it. 15 runs in one game (only because we faced bottom of the barrell pitching) and then 2 runs total in two games. The score is already 6-0 Yankees before tomorrow’s game even starts. That’s a given with Perez taking the mound.

  242. EV says:

I’m going to say it again, FIRE OMAR!!!!!

  243. metschamps says:

So, we have Ollie to look forward to tomorrow?

  244. Dave Kingman says:

Firing Omar would be a good thing. Somebody else take over and try to rebuild. We have some pieces to trade and some veteran garbage leaving after this year. It wouldn’t be the worst situation for a GM.

  245. skylog says:

well. killer game to lose. a game they could have easily won. yes, johan didn’t get any offense, again, but at the same time, don’t walk those three guys that ended up being all the runs the yankees got across, and you don’t need more than 2 runs.

face it, the mets are not even the .500 team we keep talking about. perhaps when they get more healthy, they stop walking the world and they learn that when runners are on base you WANT to get hits, then, maybe, MAYBE things will get better in metland. until then, this is our fate/team.

  246. Dave Kingman says:

Oh and Bernazard needs to go as well. Also every advance scout we have because they certainly don’t do a good job.

    • The Glider says:

Oh yeah. Bernazard is a bum.

    • WrightsRight says:

Advanced scouting is a major problem. Either that or these guys just don’t bother to read the reports. Chase Utley is at the stadium every day several hours before the game studying video and reports like his life depended on it.

  247. drodro22 says:

this is why we nee jason bay, mark texeira, etc…….after david, they can pitch around beltran…….and beltran pretty much sucks at hitting anythng other than mistakes….

    • K-PIC89 says:

hahah so true the hanging curveballs he crushes.

    • The Glider says:

I don’t think we’ll get Texiera. The Braves, Yanks, Dodgers and I think I heard the Angels are all bidding on him.

  248. WrightsRight says:

Santana has been frustrating but even more frustrating is that absolutely amateur offense. Just awful. I can’t think of any positives. I would rather these guys have 20 wins then constantly tease us with this mediocrity. It’s like this team will get electrocuted by chips implanted in their bodies if they move above .500. I watch highlights of other games and literally every other team in MLB looks like it can have its way with these losers.

  249. K-PIC89 says:

start trading these useless F**ks that are over paid. beltran. del-got-shiv pedro.. trade for some younger guys.

  250. metschamps says:

Why do these Molina boys continue to be such pests???

  251. kd bart says:

The rest of the season hinges on getting Alou and Church back in the lineup in the next 7-10 days and keeping them there. I admit that is a big if but it is all they have. Those two in the lineup improve it significantly and enable you to move Delgado out of the five hole. With those two, you should have more consistent day to day offense.

    • K-PIC89 says:

alou is great………….. when he plays

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

The problem is that LF is Alou’s job, so he’s responsible for the LF production everyday, when he can play and when someone else has to play it for him. Waiting for him to come back and hoping he can stay is the kind of though process that gets this team into these kind of jams in the first place. Cerrone posted the numbers for LF the other day. Ugly stuff. A lesser player who could have been around for more than a few days at a time would have helped this team much much more.

    • The Glider says:

You simply can’t count on Alou. The trading deadline is soon upon us. Omar HAS to make a move re LF.

  252. skylog says:

    this is hilarious

  253. EV says:

Omar and all his cronies have to go, except for ONE. The guy they just hired Wayne Krivisky. Again, as Reds GM got Volquez and STOLE Phillips from the Tribe. Now, Perez does kill the Yankees lol.

  254. X-Man says:

I have decidd not to waste my valuable time anymore and watch these clowns play. Life’s too precious man to just give up 3 hours everday to this pathetic example of a baseball team. I will only come back and watch once they…………………………………..

Get a Major League Hitting Left Fielder and address the First basebase Problem. We’re a team of has beens and bench players, is there any wonder we’re a BELOW .500 team?

See you guys hopefully after the July 31st trade deadline, take my friendly advice and don’t get nuts over these idiots. I’m not abandoning my team, I’m just protesting Omar’s idiotic moves and lack there of. He is the one responsible for putting this laughable on the field.

    • The Glider says:

You may be right X-man. This team is sucking the life out of me. I don’t know how much more I can take.

      • X-Man says:

I hear you, it’s sucking the life out of me also and what’s worse, I take it out on my poor family. I’m in a bad mood all the time and it’s just not worth it man. I am really pissed at the way Omar has let a champion caliber team spiral down hill by being soooo short sighted abd not realizing this team is just to old and has no life.

  255. sirk says:

    im fawkin pissed..

  256. gottabelieve07 says:

Would be nice to have Ryan Church activated JUST IN CASE a situation comes up where his bat might be needed late wouldn’t it?

    Oh wait…

  257. drodro22 says:

will angel pagan, aaron heilman, mike carp, and scott shoenweiss net us anything???

  258. sirk says:

no the mets dont play .500 baseball,….. they play .494 baseball…

  259. EV says:

Alou, he will probably get hurt again coming off the DL, you can’t count on him.

  260. metschamps says:

Delgado vs Mariano…any bets on who will come up short ?

  261. EV says:

Guys, I think the Mets have 4 Trading Chips:
    1. Perez
    2. Feliciano
    3. Schoe
    4. Wagner

    • The Glider says:

I think Wagner has a no trade clause.

    • kd bart says:

No one is going to give you anything for Perez. Too erratic and a free agent at the end of the season.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

“Guys, I think the Mets have 4 Trading Chips:
      1. Perez
      2. Feliciano
      3. Schoe
      4. Wagner”

      1. An up and down head case who will be a free agent at the end of the year.

      2. A good guy, but a guy who we would probably be a little bit less impressed with if he wasn’t one of ours.

      3. A lefty with a heartbeat can always get you something, but what?

      4. Not going anywhere unless he approves it. Bad contract too.

    • iluvbuckner says:

right…and who would you want in return, since you pretty much depleted your bullpen and tried to trade players with no trade clauses?

Oh yeah, it’s not your job.

  262. metschamps says:

    Great swing Carlos….idiot

  263. vivalosmets says:

i think i can strike out delgado at any time. tatis and trot nixon. rivera better be worried

  264. The Glider says:

Great. Two has-beens (Tatis; Nixon) against the greatest reliever in the game.

  265. kd bart says:

All you need to know about the weak Met offense is it comes down to Trot Nixon.

  266. sirk says:

y not activate church today i duno if they did or didn’t, but they should of nd had him pinch hit

  267. The Glider says:

    Trot is just working Mariano,

  268. playmaker3128 says:

Coulda really used church at some point today, even as a pinch hitter, but hey lets not activate him.

    • The Glider says:

Exactly. If one extra day is the difference, is he really ready to play again?

  269. The Glider says:

    Great at bat Trot.

  270. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Sigh…….

  271. vivalosmets says:

7-7. perez on the hill for the wrap up

im tired of looking forward to phillies games just to see if they win so we don’t keep losing games in the standings

  272. EV says:

Wow what a suprise they go down 1-2-3. This team is a disgrace and wouldn’t know what a clutch hit is if they fell over it. FIRE OMAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  273. The Glider says:

I need to get drunk and laid.

  274. drodro22 says:

    i’m saying it……..

    FIRE OMAR……..

    delgado is a bust
    pedro a bust
    castillo a BIG bust
    beltran mediocre
    santana mediocre

  275. grotesmask says:

C’mon Guys. Our team plays with such passion and drive, and now we’ve added Nixon and Phillips. That Phillips, Helluva pickup–Minaya Genius

    What’s to worry about?

  276. EV says:

Who cares about the Phillies, I’m tired of hearing about us being in first place nonsense. IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!! How does Omar get a pass in regards to this mess?

  277. sirk says:

2 runs is unacceptable wither way, but reyes getting picked off ruined the game, tht was the game right there

  278. Dave Kingman says:

I’m so pissed, I’m going out tonight and getting drunk (I never drink) and I’ll probably hook up with a not so attractive girl (I don’t have to be drunk to do that).

  279. X-Man says:

Embarrasing, pathetic, laughable, disgraceful, and just simply a horrible offensive team Omar has assembled. From this point on, It’s all on him. He’s needs to take the fall if they don’t acquire “REAL” hitters for this anemic line-up.

  280. Hellbelly says:

……….i’ am pretty sure that its not just a fairly untalented team that i root for………………………its THE DUMBEST TEAM I’VE EVER SEEN.

    Dumb.

    Dumb.

    Dumb.

    …..but at least they’re unlikable.

  281. Keith17 says:

Simply embarrassing. I’m going to tomorrow’s game but it’s so hard to look forward to it.

    • X-Man says:

What a waste of money, you must be loaded and don’t care about money. Me personally, I would not give these clowns ONE Cent of my hard earned money, not one red cent.

  282. kd bart says:

Whyen you have basically no offense, you have no margin for error. One mistake pitch on the mound, one fielding miscue or one baserunning blunder will cost you. You have to be perfect in all other facets of the game because you can’t outhit your mistakes. A team like the Cubs can outslug their mistakes. Until, the Mets upgrade their offense, .500 is the best you can hope for.

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO A PATHETIC OFFENSE!!!

    • X-Man says:

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, it really is that simple.

No Offense = .500 team at best (now sub-.500).

  283. AlreadyMissShea says:

I’m seeing and hearing a lot of trade proposals from Mets fans, but most of them involve the wrong people for the wrong reasons. People want to trade one of our few remaining young guys or someone who is actually producing for something that MIGHT get us into the playoffs. I know a lot of people think I’m negative, but any trades that actually can be made should be with the future in mind and not October. IF this is a playoff team, let them get their act together and prove it. If not, cut whatever dead weight you can and think about what this team is going to look like going foward.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      Yup. I agree.

    • metsforever says:

      Amen

    • skylog says:

i am with you. there already has been too much thinking about win now, which it looked like it made sense, as it turns out, perhaps that was not the case. ownership needs to look to next season and beyond. i like what you said, if they are a playoff team, play like it and get there. at the very least, prove something. for me, it is not even that they are losing, it is just the way they are playing. they are not playing sharp. they are not playing smart.

      show something.

  284. skylog says:

not as if it will matter, but this team was given life by the phillies, too bad they did not take the opportunity. like i said, unless this team gets healthly and plays with a brain, it probably would not have mattered, but it would have been nice to see them show something.

rather than will they win the division, we should be asking, will they ever get even one game over .500 the rest of the way?

  285. sirk says:

our ”ace” is 7-7, john maine is our true ace !

  286. MetsFan4Decades says:

Mets only offense is the occasional long ball – and I mean occasional and 50% of the time solo. You are just not winning ball games with that kind of offense.

Probably a big stretch and delusional, but God I hope Church’s return makes some type of difference….

  287. EV says:

YEA KINGMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is going to be wearing some Kareem Abdul Jabar Size Beer Goggles tonight lol.

  288. dr jones says:

these friggen guys suck. The Mets had 1 ONE quality at bat the last 4 innings of this game. ONE..

  289. drodro22 says:

reyes is slipping back to his old ways AGAIN…..

  290. MetsFanInVegas says:

Amazing to think this team could be in first place right now while taking advantage of all these Phillies losses but no, we lose just as much. Can’t win ****. We’ll continue to be in 3rd and then the Phillies will go on another hot streak while we really get behind in the standings again.

  291. Dave Kingman says:

I long for a young team making young mistakes but playing their hearts out. It makes baseball so much more fun to watch. Not this washed up garbage. No fire, no passion (except for dancing in clubs) and no talent.

  292. sirk says:

the only semi-positive thing i can think of is tht 2moro CHURCH is back babyyyy Church on sunday lolz, nd ollie perez owns the yanks…nd rasner pitches for the yanks.., the only bad part is..perez is..perez..nd sometimes the mets rock pitchers they never usally face nd sometimes they make tht pitcher look amazing, like ponson yesterday..ugh.

  293. johnfromflushing says:

so whats the 140 mil . man s excuse today ?… reyes ? no support ? not hot enough ? not after ther 2nd half ? garnted they didnt score of fthe yankees ace… but just imagine for a 140 mil . ya didnt walk to many batters, give up to many homers, constantly in trouble…and god forbid you should throw a shutout , maybe dominate a game , ya know… give up a single run , or better yet ,no runs ,,,,, 1 time , ,be the man …ya know like a dominant ace… just once…. if only al lieter knew how much he was worth…..

  294. EV says:

    Say it with me everybody:
    OMAR
    MUST
    GO

    OMAR
    MUST
    GO

    • washtiger says:

That’s right. This mess is all on Omar. If canning Willie did one thing, it rightfully places the spotlight on Omar.

Sad thing is, what can realistically be done this year to improve this team? I’m not going to rehash the different scenarios people have mentioned about possible trades and other player moves. Unfortunately we’re stuck with we’ve got.

I think our only hope is that the season plays out like 1973. Just stay around .500 and hope the other teams do a little bit worse.

All I know is this team in painful to watch, and like someone else said on here, just puts me in a terrible mood. That said, I don’t think I can handle watching Ollie tomorrow. I think I need a break!

  295. johnfromflushing says:

oh …..and toasty ….. trot’s been such the missing piece…..

  296. Two-By-Four says:

If the Mets continue to play this poorly will Fred Wilpon act like Jim Dolan and keep Omar or will he fire Omar. And if he fires Omar can Wilpon even select a quality GM or is he clueless? With Wilpon as owner it will take sublime luck for the Mets to develop into anything approximating a quality franchise.

  297. huge_mets_fan11 says:

    Two Things:
    1) Blame it all on the offense if you want but Santana has to start getting the job done. Besides Hamels, every ace pitcher Santana has faced has out pitched him. To me that is not an ace pitcher. Again blame it on the offense all you want but the Twins didn’t have the best offense either and look how he did with them. Also when your down 2-1 you have to still keep it close, you cannot give up a 2-out hit to Cano in that spot. I love Santana but to me he has been a little bit of a let down.

    2) Anyone else get really annoyed at Joe Buck today? He is the anti-Met announcer. Every chance he gets he will talk negativaly about them. How many times today did it sound like he was sucking the Yanks your know what.

  298. EV says:

Johan deserves some blame today but giving up 3 runs is a quality start in my book.

    • metsforever says:

Especially to they Yankees. If you can get by with 3 runs to those guys, you should win.

    • Two-By-Four says:

Johan has made quality starts and has pitched well but he is not an equalizer that allows a team with a weaker lineup to beat one with a better lineup. In that regard he is closer to Frank Viola then say a Tom Seaver. A truly great pitcher wins 2-1. But put Johan on the Yankees and he wins 20 games.

      • metsforever says:

You can count on that. I wonder if they are rethinking the value of Phil Hughes? If I were a Yankee fan, I would be thinking that Johan would look a lot better than Rasner and Ponson about now.

That said, they will still probably make the playoffs, but with Santana, they might win it all.

    • kd bart says:

Yep. If the Mets score 5 and win 5-3, everyone would consider it a very good start.

Why are the Twins winning. Because as a team they’re hitting .313 with men in scoring position and .280 with men in scoring position and 2 out. The Mets. .253 and .212 respectively.

      • EV says:

Exactly KD Bart numbers said it best. It’s the offense’s fault. I blame Santana more for the Mariners start, you can’t give up a grand slam to a pitcher.

  299. EV says:

They fired Willie and in a COMPLETE SHOCKER they haven’t played better. How does Omar get to keep his job? This is HIS FAULT. I swear we really are the freaking New York Knicks of baseball.

  300. grotesmask says:

But that’s just it EV! It’s quality, not the greatness we wanted to see. He should not have issued two consec walks and then the BH. I just really thought today if not the shutout, then only one run through seven or so. And, yeah, duh! The offense sucks royally. What a miserable bb team. Thanks for ruining another Saturday night, Mets.

    • EV says:

I hear you Grote, but I blame him more for the Mariners start than this one. Again, 3 Runs against the Yankees I would take anytime, he kept us in the game.

    • wrightstuff08 says:

Santana doesnt deserve much of the blame today. As usual this offense does nothing and the stats show that. Wright, Reyes, and Beltran is the offense and that is pretty much it. Church should make some difference by stretching out the lineup a bit.

      • John The Mets Fan says:

I cant believe what Im hearing! Santana deserves MOST if not ALL of the blame. Walking Jeter and Abreu with no outs? Cardinal sin of baseball…..

  301. EV says:

I hear you Grote, but I blame him more for the Mariners start than this one. Again, 3 Runs against the Yankees I would take anytime, he kept us in the game.

    • kd bart says:

Every mistake on the mound gets magnified because of the lack of offense. The pitching isn’t worse than two years ago. It’s just that two years ago that teamcould score some runs. Especially late in games. This team is the worse late inning offense in the game.

  302. fortleemets says:

I am a Mets fan, but everyone on here is a hypocrite. You fault Willie when things were going bad and said that he had to leave. Now that he’s not here, you’re finding someone else to blame. Obviously, your critical analysis of the Mets was incorrect in regards to Willie’s connection to the failures of this team. Why should anyone be listening to you now? Maybe you should re-examine what you think makes a baseball team good or bad and then make your conclusions about what needs to be done. Saying “FIRE OMAR” doesn’t do anything.

    • EV says:

So, what do you want done Fort Lee? You talk alot but I don’t hear anything good coming out of you.

      • fortleemets says:

Right now, we have to deal with what we have. I would bat Delgado 7th or 8th and maybe bring up Carp from the minor leagues. Besides that, this is the team that we have. We aren’t entitled to have a good team. There are 29 other teams in the MLB that also want to to win.

        • EV says:

Oh yea, those two moves will do alot to change things. Yea, but do those other teams have the HIGHEST PAYROLL in the National League, no they don’t. Did other teams trade for Johan Santana and give him a 6 year 130 million dollar contract. No, they didn’t, so excuse us “HYPOCRITES” from being upset.

    • metsforever says:

I disagree. Willie had to go and should have been fired last October. Unfortunately, the manager pays for poor play on the field.

On this team, that is Willie. The GM usually gets a pass the first time around and he did. Now the chickens will come home to roost in Omar’s barn.

The problem now is that Omar may make some really bad decisions in order to try to salvage this mess.

  303. metschamps says:

Manuel in post game interview on pathetic offense: ” we have to start getting some runs. At some point we have to sit down and evaluate our roster”.

Didn’t he say that a week and a half ago and for the love of God, shouldn’t that have been done ALREADY ???!!!!!

    • EV says:

What can you do with this offense, it’s pathetic.

      • kd bart says:

I said it earlier and I’ll say it again, it comes down to getting Church and Alou back in the lineup and keeping them there. A very big if but if it happens the offense should upgrade significantly.

      • X-Man says:

They have to figgure out a way to get a productive, offensive Left fielder (can’t keep counting on Alou) and also figgure out the First base problem. I know it’s easier said than done, but that’s why I’m not being paid millions to be a GM, Omar is. There has to be a way either by trade or minoe leagues to bring more offense to this team. Church will help, but he won’t be the “Savior’ to this season, LF has to be addressed one way or another.

  304. metphan says:

    Ok, I’ve evaluated the roster.

Get Bonds. Can he really be any worse than Nixon, Tatis, Philips or Anderson?

    I mean come on…

  305. djsunyc says:

    pettite is better than johan.

why? b/c after a yankees loss, he comes in and gets the win. that’s called a stopper…the guy that prevents a bad streak from continuing.

johan pitched well today, but he still got the loss. it’s not like the yankee offense was giving pettite alot of help either. he just outpitched the $25 million dollar man.

johan is still a good pitcher. mets got him for a song. but expectations need to be lowered b/c he was starting to fade in AL. going to the NL extended his career 2 years.

    • metsforever says:

No he isn’t. Pettite got to pitch against guys who couldn’t make most AAA teams. Has beens and never weres. Johan had to go up against an American League team with 2 all time greats and 7 pretty damned goods.

      • X-Man says:

Correct. Huge difference in who each pitcher had to face.

        • djsunyc says:

lol. i’m not just talking about today, i’m talking about throughout his career, which has basically been in the AL.

johan is the one facing AAA teams this season.

    • X-Man says:

Johan pitches ‘Well Enough” to lose.

      • John The Mets Fan says:

Great way to copy Ed Coleman X-Man…..lol. Cant you at least be a little original? Or at least be smart enough to assume that MAYBE if you’re listening to Eddie Coleman that other Mets fans may be too?…

  306. X-Man says:

    Imagine if we had Church and Alou (healthy) back in the line-up and actually keep them there till the end of the season, you can play with the line-up. You could try this;

    Reyes SS
    Beltran CF
    Wright 3B
    Church RF
    Alou LF
    Delgado 1B
    Castillo/Easley SS
    Schneider/Castrol C
    Pitcher

I put Beltran in the No. 2 hiole because I just think castillo’s lack of hitting hurt s in the 2nd spot. 1 -5 the opposing pitcher has no easy outs. You could easily put Castillo at No. 2 and move everyone down a spot, still pretty good.

    • metsforever says:

unfortunately, all you can do is imagine. that’s the problem with counting on the AARP set.

      • X-Man says:

Yep. That’s Omar’s lack of foresight and not seeing this coming. Pedro, Alou, El Duque, Delgado and so on.

    • kd bart says:

I would leave Castillo/Easley in the #2 because of the ability to bunt and you need to have something at the bottom of the lineup. 1-6 would be a major upgrade.

I was just looking at some Phillies stats. The Phillies pitching actually has been better this month than it was in May. The ERA is .6 runs lower in June than May. The thing is they’re hitting 40 points lower and averaging 1.75 runs a game less in June than in May. Thus, their losing record in June.

    • metphan says:

      Now imagine this lineup:

      Reyes
      Church
      Wright
      Bonds
      Beltran
      Delgado
      Castillo
      Schneider
      P

  307. drodro22 says:

if the yankees can have clemens, pettitte, and giambi ALL PROVEN ROIDS USERS, I say screw it….

    BRING US BARRY

  308. drodro22 says:

seriously…..to me, innocent before proven guilty and it would be patriotic for them to bring bonds in! we now know they wanted to help a black manager in NY, well how about a villified black man? to me, clemens, pettitte, the 2000 yanks world series team, giambi, are just as villainous as barry.

    • X-Man says:

Yep. If Piazza ahd been doing roids, that ball would have been out for sure and it’s a new series.

  309. drodro22 says:

    whats worse?:

beating your wife (Myers), choke slamming your GM (Chacon), assaulting a cameraman (Rogers), lying to a grand jury (Clemens), doing cocaine (Straw, Doc, Mex), cheating in superbowls (Belichick), choking your coach (Sprewell), not paying taxes (Jeter)

    OR

possibly using “the clear” (Barry Bonds)

    • John The Mets Fan says:

Sheffield’s still playing. He’s african american. Why is he still playing?

Bonds is a cancer. Black white yellow orange whatever. He’s a cancer. The last thing this team needs is more negativity. And besides, without the juice, Barry is useless….

  310. X-Man says:

    Morally…………………beating your wife

    legally……………………………lying to a grand Jury

Using the Clear? so did about 75% of all major league players. He just got caught.

    • drodro22 says:

exactly…….but cuz hes an ornary black man he is criminal number one…..efffff that…..bring him in…..

      • X-Man says:

If we had George Steinbrenner in his “Hay” days he probably would bring him in. But don’t forget, the Wilpons have no Ba………..lls!

  311. metphan says:

Who’s on the FAN overnight tonite, Tony Paige? Everyone call in all night and push for Bonds.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Personally, I think Bonds is blackballed from MLB, which is just as wrong as anything he may or may not have actually done.

      • drodro22 says:

the MLB needed a fall guy……..what better guy than the one who is already a prick, who is hated for breaking records and isnt an all american boy, who doesn’t give a damn what the media thinks, and is black…..
