Boy; some of you met fans sounding off on the team are never satisfied. I would guess the only thing that would appease the fans who are thirsty for blood, would be to sacrifice the players to the hungry lions. like in the roman coliseum, some fans are always pointing thumbs down, no matter what their favorite gladiators do. Maybe the Mets should win 162 games every year, 4 to 5 no hitters and 4 to 5 home runs every game. WOW! I still think there would be fans who would complain...

Reyes is no Jefferies.

The difference? At least this year, Jose is able to forget about a tantrum a few minutes later.

Gregg would get upset about one call / swing / play and be done for the day.

I don't think they make as much difference as people would think. If he were a rookie now, he'd have spent the past five or six years in the minors / college / high school / leagues outside the US.

In other words, he'd still be playing baseball. So a rookie at 25 has about the same amount of season experience as Reyes. Not quite, obviously, and the majors are unique.

But while Jose should be more mature by now, he gets more leniency in my book than a 30 year old who was a rookie at 24, or whatever the equivalent would be for a guy who came up 4 or 5 years older.

Yes, absolutely dominant. Then the Pirates messed all around with his mechanics, fearing he would be injured. Oddly enough, he was injured after they tweaked his delivery. I think that Oliver might get a little crazy sometimes, but you are probably just better off giving him a bit of a gameplan and then letting him do his thing out there. He had an extra 2-3 mph on his heat today, and nice location. He did look different on the mound, rocking back and getting all his momentum going forward, as opposed to going side to side. I am sure thats where the extra velocity came from. Good for Ollie, I am sticking by my story, he will be fine and play a big role in our run to the world series. Atleast I dont have to hear every idiot in NY talk about how we should trade Oliver for anything they can get, which is about as stupid an idea as there is, though who said NY'ers were smart. On a whole, sadly, we arent so smart. It is amazing how NY fans get some kind of credit for being the "best fans in the world" (I am sure this idea came from a new yorker), but as a whole we are just a bunch of stupid whiny babies who feel like we are owed something that we arent, and want to release all our players at one point in a season on some knee jerk reaction.

Because you don't just trade your number 4 starter with absolutely no replacement for him. Especially when you are trying to compete. Especially when the guy has very low value. Especially when he will net us a draft pick(s) during the winter. Not worth it unless youg get really blown away, which they wont.

Yeah, only the Rays and Sox both dont "have" to beat the Yankees. The Yankees arent as good as either one of those teams... and they are pretty much an afterthought.
