  1. fatsfox says:

Who was sent down for Church?

  2. grotesmask says:

Maybe this line up will become more regular, more consisten, more winning. Maybe. I’ll take Alou for even 20 ABs when he comes back.

    C’mon Ryan! Mash it, Baby!

  3. shannon says:

    it’s a 4-game series, not 3

    • nomoredelgado says:

COME ON METS. Don’t let us down.

    • fatsfox says:

1st game was a make up for the rain out from the first series at a different stadium, so this is a three game series.

      • Adam_Jones says:

Agreed, the Mets swept the Yankees in the three game set in the Bronx and are trying to salvage the Sweep at Shea.

  4. MetsRule says:

    Great to see Church back

  5. MetsFan4Decades says:

Here’s hoping Church comes back strong. Especially don’t want to see a career ending injury b/c of his concussions.

Any bets on what Ollie we’ll see today? We really need him to step up today. He pitched well against the Yanks at the stadium last month…..

  6. lambay says:

I wonder if this might be Perez’s last start as a Met?

  7. Adam_Jones says:

This will be Perez’s last start as a Met if he has another one of his classic implosions. He looked great in the first, but does that really matter?

  8. I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

Sorry I didn’t realize I was posting under my name, I’m back here.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

lol – maybe you should start ragging on Delgado again this game. It certainly worked for us on Friday – hahahaha.

  9. adam900 says:

Yankees have a horrible lineup in, Mets have a pretty good one. I just hope Perez continues his dominance against the Yanks. We need kinda need this win a lot more then the Yanks do.

  10. adam11216 says:

is anyone else frustrated that delgado seems to do just enough not to get benched or released? his 9-RBI game was nice, but i’d rather have 3 3-RBI games in a week, and that also makes it even harder to bench or release him in the near future. plus, it kind of irks me that he’s in the Mets record books.

  11. Dave Kingman says:

Luis didn’t get the job done, but the ump gave Rasner a foot outside. That better go both ways. I hate Shea Stadium. Our hitters get robbed of homeruns constantly by their own ballpark.

  12. playmaker3128 says:

Can i know why delgado is in the 5 spot? I know church just came back but i really really hope this isn’t the norm. The guy had one good game, was 0-20 prior to that, and hasn’t had a hit since. Yet he deserves to hit 5th? Beltran didn’t even get close to a pitch to hit last AB.

Also castillo nice job not moving reyes over. Again it happens, 2 out of the 3 outs in the lineup are weak outs by castillo and delgado.

  13. mavicario says:

I hate this team so much.

Reyes on 2nd with no outs and I had 0 confidence that he would score.

I love the mets, I hate these 25 players

  14. drodro22 says:

i like wright, church, castro, reyes, maine, pelfrey, duaner, joe smith, endy, and sometimes beltran…….

    everyone else blows

  15. playmaker3128 says:

Wow perez looking dominant out there. Dan warthen fixed perez in 10 minutes! Literally, just one bullpen session. Of course its not the 5th inning yet. well see

  16. DoYouSeeInHD says:

any bets today on how many times castillo decides to take two strikes before even bothering to swing at a pitch?

  17. The Glider says:

    Hey, John the Mets Fan . . . guess who’s batting in the number 2 spot again . . . ? (hehehehe)

  18. MetsFan4Decades says:

Yes! At least he hustled down that line.

    • DoYouSeeInHD says:

Yeah, but with the bases loaded and Castillo up, the best you can hope for is that he slaps it slow enough that he beats it out at first. It shouldn’t be that way.

  19. adam11216 says:

thank god he beat that out. i couldn’t take another bases loaded, no runs at bat.

  20. The Glider says:

I think Castillo’s leg fell off as he beat out that throw.

  21. The Glider says:

Rot row … a Molina sighting.

  22. The Glider says:

You know, we bust on Castillo a lot . Some of it is justified; some of it is just us needing a kicking dog to take our frustrations out on. But, in case no one has noticed, Castillo – even with all the games he’s missed – has 26 RBIs so far this season. That’s not too shabby.

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

I agree that most of the frusturation comes from the fact that we have him for four years, becuase, yea, he doesnt totally suck. I mean he is OBPing .358 and doing what he is supposed to do for the most part.

The problem is that he is going to be an absolute horror show for the final two years of his contract most likely.

  23. MetsFan4Decades says:

Wow – great start for Ollie. Now I gotta hold my breath through these next 3 innings or so…..

    • The Glider says:

Don’t let that fool ya. Ollie is ALWAYS one pitch away from completely losing it.

  24. adam11216 says:

gary just pointed out that delgado is 0-21 in the last week outside of his 9-rbi game on friday.

  25. MetsFan4Decades says:

Off the scoreboard! Delgado – who would have thought????

  26. The Glider says:

So goes Delgado; so go the Mets.

It’s amazing. Delgado could still end up with 30 HRs.

  27. The Glider says:

Delgado does look old with that grey in his stubble. “No play for Mr. Grey.” Maybe if he used Just for Men on it, we would think he was over the hill?

  28. kendychavez says:

leave it to the yankees pitching to make delgado look good. i just don’t get why anybody would ever pitching him anywhere but inside. just pound him in and he’s absolutely hopeless.

again, like friday afternoon: if you think this is a sign of delgado being back, you’re just not paying attention. these are cookies down the middle from terrible pitchers

    • The Glider says:

I know, your absolutely correct. I’d feed Delgado a heavy dose of inside fastballs only.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      I hear ya…..

      • EliPorter says:

most pitchers the mets face are crap pitchers who throw cookies. seriously, is there anyone outside of hamels, hudson, rauch, lidge in the NL that you consider a great pitcher?

  29. sirk says:

conclusion: when u fall behind on delgado, which is kinda rare cuz he swings at almost everything, and try to go after him in the strike zone, chances are it will get hit a long way…it also helps when you hang a slider or throw a 90mph fastball or less=) either way he crushed it, lets go mets!

  30. als102 says:

Yeah but the NL is full of terrible pitchers, trying to be a little optimistic, but who knows he gets a little bit of his stroke back since we have to deal with him for the rest of the year. So he might not be such an automatic out every time.

  31. The Glider says:

Ollie takes a pretty good rip. Now, if he could only make contact.

  32. The Glider says:

Like I said, Ollie is ALWAYS one pitch away from implosion.

  33. MetsFan4Decades says:

Mani, who is winning this contest? He’s got to get A-rod out here.

  34. adam11216 says:

can we please get a rain delay before arod hits his home run?

  35. adam11216 says:

    nice K, ollie.

  36. MetsFan4Decades says:

Ollie got him! A-Rod looked non too pleased.

  37. adam11216 says:

rasner at 72 pitches through 3 – we might be able to get into the bullpen in the 5th. we need some hawkins home cookin’ to get the bats on track…

    • Nate W. says:

eh, the Yankees might just call up another middle reliever in the middle of the game. MLB let them get away with garbage roster moves all weekend, why not let them do it mid-game…

    • mavicario says:

Are you saying that cause you’re rooting for the Yankees or do you really think the Mets can score against a bullpen?

Last I checked the Mets are horrible against every team’s bullpen.

  38. The Glider says:

OLLIE! Way to go after ‘em.

  39. MetsFan4Decades says:

    O.K, exhaling now….

  40. Dave Kingman says:

Now the rain will take Perez right out of a dominant start. Yankee luck as always.

    • adam11216 says:

another way to look at is that it’ll take him out before his customary 5th/6th inning implosion.

  41. Nate W. says:

    Sorry all, my bad.

I turned on the game after other stuff just in time to see Ollie’s last pitch to strike out Damon… then came the hit. Sorry!

I wonder if Perez would be better if he just pitched from the full windup with someone on base… sure every baserunner will end up on third base, but if no one can drive him in its effective… ;)

  42. grotesmask says:

C’mon Ollie keep it together, and keep doin’ what you’re doin’.

  43. sirk says:

i think beltran needs some rest, maybe give him a day off…

    • Nate W. says:

not the least bit ironically its time to start looking at home/road splits for Beltran and Delgado again.

  44. MetsFan4Decades says:

8 Ks for Ollie! There is just absolutely no way to predict what he’s gonna do on the mound.
And yeah, I know we haven’t got to the sixth inning yet, which is always telling….

  45. The Glider says:

It looks like Good Ollie, as opposed to Evil Ollie, showed up today.

    • I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

Careful, his implosion usually occurs in the 5th or 6th, he’s through 5 fine, hopefully they call this game now.

  46. metsforever says:

This is why Ollie is going to get 4/40 this winter. Any chance we can trade him to the Red Sox right now?

  47. kendychavez says:

as awful as he is to watch most of the time, there’s not many pitchers i like watching more than oli when he’s on like this.

  48. dominicanboy08 says:

thats why its hard to give up on ollie, he has trememdous stuff. it seems that he throws harder when he does that little move forward before releasing the ball.

  49. ridethesnake says:

Delgado is on pace for 30 HR and 94 RBI, which is truly amazing (altho one HR was reversed so he’ll settle for 29-90)

    • metsforever says:

That just doesn’t seem right after all we have seen this year. That comes out to a decent season. Maybe he could be moved as a DH?

      • ridethesnake says:

        Well, the .231 seems right.

.231 30-94 is great for a #7 hitter tho, so if we can get Church 5 and Alou 6, we’re in business as long as that lasts.

      • The Glider says:

Maybe we ought to keep our mouths shut and let him put up those numbers. I bet you that the numbers are even better if we account for the very slow start he got off to.

        • ridethesnake says:

nah — in the last 28 days he is hitting 235 with good power too. He’s been consistently missing too many pitches because his timing is gone, but his power is not.

    • kendychavez says:

if your only criteria for judging a player is homeruns and rbis, then sure, delgado is fine. unfortunately I don’t ignore obp, slugging, defense

      (delgado is terrible)

      • The Glider says:

        . . . and your solution is?

        • kendychavez says:

i didn’t say get rid of him; I understand he’s gotta play. i’m just saying we shouldn’t be trying to trick ourselves into thinking he’s good at baseball

        • ridethesnake says:

Nope, no one said that. His .231 BA was plenty argument against that.

      • Nate W. says:

while you have good points, I think we accepted that we werent going to get those things from Delgado this year, and the fact that he is on pace to equal last years production is a good sign that he isnt getting worse.

They didnt address other positions, so having Delgado be as bad as last year is hurting the team. But that isnt Delgado’s fault, its Omars…

        • ridethesnake says:

right, and he should be batting 7th if Alou can somehow stay on the field.

          Reyes
          Castillo
          Wright
          Beltran
          Church
          Alou
          Delgado
          Castro

A little slow 6-8 but powerful

  50. ridethesnake says:

Did anyone notice that Ollie hasn’t hopped over the foul line after 3rd out? Someone finally got in his head to concentrate and stop being so childish (tho I loved the hop, it didn’t work for his immature personality)

  51. I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

Call this game! It’s a monsoon out there! Implosion is pending…

  52. The Glider says:

    Everybody clap your hands!

  53. Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch

    Let’s Go!

  54. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Here we go – Ollie’s infamous 6th inning….

    • The Glider says:

Reverse psychology!!! There are reports that Evil Ollie just got out of his limousine at Shea.

  55. I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

We’re in trouble here. 4-2 Yankees after the 6th, Ollie will blame it on the weather after the game.

  56. Looks to be O-Perez’s best game thus far, ya think?

The score is still too tight for my comfort, and will undoubtedly be decided by our bullpen, oh boy.

Heilman has always scared me, however, he has been doing well lately; yet, I believe most of his recent appearances have come when the score wasn’t too close, right?

    Cmon Mets.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

That start of his at the stadium – they won 11-2. I believe Ollie pitched at least 7 innings in that game, if not into the 8th. Of course it’s much easier to pitch when you’ve got a bunch of runs for your team on the board.
So, so far, pitching in this tight ball game, this is a very good start for him.

      • Nate W. says:

Perez went 7 2/3 on 109 pitches that day. The Yankees were swinging at everything later in that game.

But he was excellent that day as well.

  57. lambay says:

what’s the name of those comfy looking seats at Shea?

  58. I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

    Implosion begins.

  59. ness589 says:

We should trade Oliver Perez to the Red Sox or Rays. They can use his Yankee-killing skills.

  60. I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

Whoa. Ollie battled back from 3-1, good Ollie?

  61. I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

    WOW. Get the bullpen up!

  62. grotesmask says:

Are you guys aware that we have stranded 13 friggin’ runners?

In a normal universe the score would be at least 6-0.

    WTFFFF!!

  63. I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

    Getting interesting here…

  64. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on, he’s gotta get Jeter here.

  65. I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

Ollie is getting hit hard right now, this game is about to be 2-2.

  66. MetsFan4Decades says:

6 – that’s right, count them, SIX, scoreless innings for Perez.
    Who would have thought….

  67. I_Love_Delgado_IM_PACMAN says:

Awesome stuff, Perez is done though. Someone must come out for the 7th. I know ARod is 0-10 against Ollie, but not after Ollie’s thrown 90 pitches. Turn it over to the bullpen, otherwise this game could be 2-1 with one swing of the bat.

  68. grotesmask says:

Any way he can go eight? I don’t think a PC of 125 should be such a big deal.

Unless we score big, I want him out there as long as possible.

    • Nate W. says:

I’m with you, let him go 8 if he can avoid a jam and doesnt go over 120 pitches by too many.

  69. Nate W. says:

I’d ask if they should PH for Perez here, but Perez is probably a better hitter than anyone on the bench today… ;)

  70. Today is shaping-up to be a game that will be concluded with the bullpen. Furthermore, what a great time it should hopefully for Jerry Manuel’s new motto on in-game pitching-changes.

The action Manuel has with his starting pitcher handing-off the game ball to whomever the relief pitcher is to meet-n-greet everyone on the mound.

Thus far, I’d love for O-Perez to look the bullpen relief pitcher straight in their eyes, and basically offer a genuine threat of how they better close this game out in winning fashion!

    Let’s Go!

    • Nate W. says:

yea they arent feeling enough pressure already. Lets add a little more for no reason.

  71. MetsFan4Decades says:

Way to make him work, Ollie – get that pitch count up – lol.

  72. ridethesnake says:

I know a lot of people are upset with Ollie and I am too, BUT I think we should hold him for the year and not get what we can for him now. The value of him this year is probably equal to the value we get for him in years ahead.

I think we all agree he is immature and, well, not bright. When things are going well he gets cocky and throws sidearm, or tries a new pitch — he’s that kid when you were younger that just never got it. So I think in huge games he doesn’t lose focus, he amps up. I know you say: how can you not be amped up for a Thursday game in Milwaukee or St Louis, but he just doesn’t. He’s been pitching his whole life, we can’t understand that he takes it for granted. But big games he focuses.

This is why I want him to stick around for the year as our 4th starter. I don’t think his inconsistency will determine our postseason odds, so if we do make it Ollie pitches Game 4 and Game 7 is it lines up right, and he could be the Jeff Suppan of the rotation. Then we let him walk to a team that overpays for his postseason peformance.

    That’s my hope anyway.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yeah, I’m not quite ready to give up on Ollie yet.

    • Nate W. says:

And he will be a Type A free agent and they will get two draft picks for losing him.

Given the last draft, I’d like to see them draft more higher developed players like Davis and Havens.

  73. Church4prez says:

    blow it open here

  74. MetsFan4Decades says:

Nice. They need more runs. Got one there. Now Beltran needs to do something here.

  75. washtiger says:

Nice to get the 3rd run, but still too tight for comfort. Still too many runners LOB — 10 today.

  76. Hey, when O-Perez pitches like he currently is pitching against the NY Yankees, than I gotta believe he has 100-percent of potential to pitch this way more frequently.

    Consistency and Simplicity.

    Let’s Go!

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I don’t think Ollie knows the meaning of the word ‘consistency’….

  77. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Oops – where’s the bullpen.

  78. Dave Kingman says:

We lost. That’s the Mets team we are know. I’m so sick of this. No way we win this, absolutely no way.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I still think we can pull this out. Yeah, as usual, left a ton of guys on base, wasted a lot of scoring opportunities. But no way should they let this effort by Perez get away.

    • mr.gee21 says:

Apparently there was a way. That way, of course, was that the Yankees really aren’t that good these days…

  79. Uhhh, JUST when ya think our pitching staff would give the “home-run slappy-happy” pitches away — they throw one in there to be hit over the wall, Yikes!

At least it was a SOLO SHOT huh??!!!

  80. MetsFan4Decades says:

Reyes needs to calm down out there. Good think he’s not a pitcher. With his personality, he’d never would last.

I still think Ollie can get this last out here.

And as I’m typing this, he does…..Way to keep his focus with that error behind him and the HR he gave up.

  81. Would you want O-Perez to remaining pitching until it’s – Enter Sandman time???

  82. Dave Kingman says:

Jeter will take Wags deep in the ninth to give the Yanks the lead. Abreu, Giambi and Cano lingering on that bench to participate in a Yankees win. Just watch and see.

  83. sandro sect6rowL says:

heilman needs work then go to billy but i would rather have a 3 run lead instead of 2

  84. MetsFan4Decades says:

We need some runs this inning. Then put Perez out for the 8th. If he puts anyone on, pull him.

  85. sandro sect6rowL says:

where’s that porch in right field when we need it?

  86. skylog says:

hopefully atlanta and florida will lose here in a few minutes. if the mets can only hold on they can pick up something at the very least.

  87. DOH! Buzz Kill with the DP, cmon.

    They better win this game!

  88. sandro sect6rowL says:

keith is getting slap happy, just in time for a long road trip

  89. sandro sect6rowL says:

hanley ramirez homered to tie the game, damn fish dont like getting hooked

  90. MetsFan4Decades says:

Lost power here for the top of the 8th – bad storm. Just got it back. Feliciano got them out 1-2-3? I don’t see any additional runs on the board for the Yanks….

  91. sandro sect6rowL says:

yeah, 1-2-3, to fly outs to left field (giambi PH swung at first pitch) and struck out damon looking

  92. sandro sect6rowL says:

    oh boy, here we go

  93. ImissPiazza says:

    If Wagner blows this.

    I’ll do something.

  94. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Well, that isn’t good.

  95. sandro sect6rowL says:

the good thing is that they couldn’t catch up to perez’s fastball so hopefully wagner can place his fastball

  96. sandro sect6rowL says:

    but of course…

  97. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Come on, Billy. One more.

  98. MetsFan4Decades says:

Whew! Put it in the books.

Props to Ollie for that pitching performance today.

  99. sandro sect6rowL says:

Put it in the books…..Th-E-e-E-e-E-e-E Yankees lose!

  100. EliPorter says:

i was nervous all game long, but im glad thats in the books. 2-2 vs the yanks- ill take it

  101. who the heck was that pitching for the Mets today? i thought Oliver Perez was supposed to start :o…4-2 on the season against the yankees, i’ll take that :)

  102. dominicanboy08 says:

perez next start is at philly, he should be ok against those lefties hitters, I hope he goes on a good streak now..btw church had two hits, he is amazing, if we could only have alou stay healthy for the rest of the year….

    • bvaz says:

except that about 4 of those balls probably get out of the park in Philly. I’m not criticizing perez’s start. I thought it was great. just trying to blow fastballs by hitters worked in a pitcher friendly park. I’m not sure it will work in Philly.

  103. lambay says:

so we are stuck with Perez for a few more starts!!!

Seriously though it does seem like he is a big game pitcher with zero concentration or the lesser games.

A cracking game to watch from over here in Ireland.

    Let’s go Mets

  104. kd bart says:

Love the win but it still was an awful offensive performance by the Mets. Should’ve won this game at least 5-1 with the amount of chances they had.

  105. grotesmask says:

Perez lives to fight another day!

    Good Boy, Ollie, Good Boy!

Seriously, the man pitched his very best game of the season. Maybe he gets on a roll, and we can stop cursing his name.

    • hi5wright says:

I like what Billy said after the game- “All Ollie has to do to get consistent is to pretend that everyone is wearing a Yankee uniform!” (or a Braves uniform for that matter.)
      Let’s rock St. Louie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  106. cb32 says:

Maybe Dan Wartham knows a little something other than the theoretical pyramids Peterson threw at Perez.

    • SuicideWatch says:

Let’s not get all crazy over Perez performance, this is what he does vs. the Yanks.

Hopefully he can channel some of this into the Philly series.

      • cb32 says:

I don’t know, we all know he does well against the yanks but there were obvious changes with Ollie today. Hope is alive for him

  107. SuicideWatch says:

    NOTE TO JOHAN SANTANA…

Sometimes you have to will a game with only 2-3 tuns of support. See Perez’s start today.

The only person NOT doing his job on this team is JOHAN SANTANA!!

  108. dominicanboy08 says:

the yes network is killing reyes for his reactions on the field… they are even saying that the mets may trade him because hes selffish and a low-paying contract… lol

      hahaha – what a crock.
Don’t know how Manual feels personally, but he didn’t have anything to say about Reyes on the post game. He just said, that’s gonna happen, you’re gonna get errors now and then. Didn’t even remotely address Reyes’ apparent temper tantrum out there.

    • John The Mets Fan says:

I’m not in the habit of watching the Yankees televison network after Mets games, but if they WERE knocking on Reyes, they have every right to. He’s immature and starting to become really overrated, wasting his talents. And HE has been very selfish, for over a year now. He should learn to stop dancing salsa and learn not swing at first pitches and hit the ball to the ground more…..

      • novanoto says:

dude, every day, every time you post, its a knock on someone involved with the mets…what the f is your problem? does everything always have such a negative lining with you?

      • patrick says:

did he not have two hits today?

This is the most overblown horse crap ever.

Paul O’Neill throws tantrums left and right and he is the “warrior”.

Reyes was pissed he let a throw sail. F’ing GOOD, and he showed it, as opposed to tapping his chest like a dolt and mouthing my bad as if no one knew it was.

For over a year I have listened to Mets fans whine about fire, and the only one who appears to give a rats arse about staying in a game, making the plays and trying to make things happen on the field is Reyes.

Everyone else you get the same crap blabber blabber about “hopefully we can get rolling”, “today was tough” blah blah blah.

Reyes expects to make that play, knew he should have made the play, and showed a sense of bitterness and anger for failing. FREAKING GREAT, now if 24 other guys could have one tenth of his passion we might have something going.

        • mr.gee21 says:

Wow, Patrick sometimes I hate what you right, but d*mn man, you are so right on there!

Reyes certainly wears his heart on his sleeve, and oh yeah, he is up there in several league leading categories, and right now is our only guy (besides dizzy Church) who is near .300.

          Heck yeah.

        • mr.gee21 says:

          right = write, of course.

Listening to Ollie’s comments on the Post game. They keep asking him why he was so good today, what was different? He kept responding that today was the real me, those other times he had problems he was ‘trying to be a different pitcher’.

So from now on, we want the REAL Ollie on the mound – lol !

    • novanoto says:

i didnt hear it, but did it sound like it was a knock on peterson? or just ollie being ollie?

  110. No better way than to conclude a 4-game series with a “W.”

    Consistency and Simplicity.

Not much time has to elapse before the NY Mets are once again tested on whether or not this will be the series when they begin heading towards the consistency and simplicity highway.

And, why not offer another 4-game series to truly test this team!

NOTE: I’m starting to sense that the Phillies are focusing-in on creeping their heads more-and-more to the side, which has them barely being able to see the Mets; furthermore, these pre-All-Star games should tell us whether or not the Phillies’ heads have remained staring towards the side; if their heads have in-fact moved, however, the direction is back to looking straight-ahead with all other teams looking-up at them; or the Phillies’ heads could pleasantly be looking behind them as the New York Mets stare right into their eyes, focused, determined, consistent, and ready to fight!

    Let’s Go!

  111. JDuelz (Athens, GA) says:

Was it just me, or did anyone notice how Ollie wasn’t doing his over dramatic, superstitious hop over the lines today? Hrmm….

  112. toomanyuniforms says:

Trade Ollie and Delgado to the AL NOW, IMMEDIATELY!!! Their value may never be higher than today. How many Boras clients in the Yankees’ lineup got wristwatches for tanking it today?

    • patrick says:

Do you really think that is how other GMs view this?

      • toomanyuniforms says:

        Worked for Carlos Beltran.

No, I’m not seriously saying their value will be down tomorrow morning, but I honestly think a GM watching today might think, “hey, this guy could give me a solid start or two down the stretch — especially against the Yanks.” As for Delgado, I’m sure AL GMs are thinking he could be a potentially valuable LH bat to add to the equation. Don’t think this weekend didn’t enhance their value.

  113. K-PIC89 says:

hopefully ollie is an idiot so they can just say. “this is a really imporant game” he seems to always do well in those situtations

  114. patrick says:

Here is the thing, Rick Peterson is a really interesting guy and in many ways a great pitching coach in that he achieved results, problem is, many of his results cases were short lived, one year wonders because the league would adjust and in some cases the pitcher, Perez in this instance would abandon a lot of what makes him successful.

Peterson’s problem was a one size fits all approach, and is not the way you can work with a pitching staff. Your are not in the business of making clones but getting the best out of each individual.

    That is where Peterson failed.

  115. yagottabelieve says:

And in his second at bat, if he doesn’t have the best eye of any Met, the best bat control of any Met, and hustle harder out of the box than any Met, we don’t score our first run… so it cuts both ways. The guy is who he is.
