i want an older, more experienced, guy....... Julio F !!!!
He's battle tested...... he's got a nice little swing.... & best of all, he started out in the bigs, as a 2b (Omar's fantasy)

Or he could be moved to another position. Or Carp could just be better than him and Davis could be traded. It's definitely not guaranteed that Davis will ever be our first basemen.

I believe every word of it, and I've independently came to the same conclusion just from what I've read, interviews, and events that have transpired....

I think he'd get a mixed reaction if bought in initially, no question....until he comes through with the game on the line and is instantly beloved by the majority.....there will of course be a few nasty stalwarts who will try everything in their power to ruin it for everyone else....

I agree. His numbers away from Coors are still good, but definitely not worth that package.

As of last year I was working for Major League Baseball and as such, I was sent out to San Francisco for a week for the All Star Game. I spent a lot of time around Barry Bonds and I must say, from my conversations with him and from watching him around others, he seemed very professional and well liked by most peers. I realized then that his surly attitude towards the media may very well be a product of the media. I'm not saying he's obsolved of having any responsibility of why that is his image, but some people change when the lights are shined on them. He's still a very productive player, one of the best of all time, and would bring a completely different dynamic in our lineup.

That said, it would be impossible to convince every fan in NY what I witnessed last year, hence he would get a less than warm welcome if we did bring him in.

There is no way I sign Sheets to a long-term contract. The man has not pitched a full season EVER. At that rate, I'd rather resign Ollie and give the #5 spot to Niese.

Why is the job automatically Ike Davis' in two years? Because he was a first round draft pick? That means nothing. He could turn out to be a total bust too.

No offense, but have you ever taken a look at Matt Holliday's numbers away from Coors? He's this era's Dante Bichette. His numbers would be decreased by half at Shea and Citi Field.

I don't do this trade.

Since we'd be packing it in ;) if I was in charge, I say give Heilman one last shot to break into the rotation this summer. With Pedro and Ollie almost certainly leaving, perhaps he can be the 5th starter next year in a weak market for mid-tier FA pitchers. Do think they'll need to bring Burnett (or preferably Sabathia, but he's going to the Bronx) on board for next year, though....

Perhaps my earlier statements are being misconstrued.... I am all for leaving this current bunch in place. If they can win the division, more power to them. BUT....I am heartily against making a panic trade now, as deadline trades have historically burned the big-name acquiring team (i.e. Smoltz for Doyle Alexander, Bagwell for Larry Andersen, and that's not even mentioning our favorite TB Ray....).

I just don't want them to mortgage what little future they have in the majors (i.e., Heilman) or in the minors (i.e. Carp, etc) for a three-month band-aid, only to be in a worse position come November 1.
