Note: Alou in Rehab Games this Week
By Matthew Cerrone - Jul 1, 2008 9:28 am

Moises Alou was scheduled to play in a minor-league rehab game last night for the Gulf Coast League Mets, but the game was rained out.

…alou did not slip in a puddle and hurt himself, so no worries on that front

According to Jerry Manuel, Alou hopes to play in two or three games for St. Lucie – after which he may rejoin the Mets this weekend in Philadelphia.

In the 98 games Moises Alou has started over the last two seasons, the Mets are 53–45 (.540).  However, in the 147 games he has missed, the Mets are 75–72 (.510).

“…alou did not slip in a puddle and hurt himself, so no worries on that front…”

Lol thanks for the laugh matt. Hope he gets back soon.

  2. Scree says:

When commenting on Alou, did Manuel happen to comment on how great and knowledgable the St. Louis fan are?

  3. UpperDeckDweller says:

    AlWho?

  4. Nate W. says:

um, Single A St. Lucie had a scheduled off day yesterday. So, huh?

the GCL Mets were rained out, you think maybe he was supposed to play in that game?

  5. Adam_Jones says:

Why don’t we just keep Alou limited to swings in a batting cage until the playo…. oh wait. Nevermind.

    • We are obviosly making the playoffs even if we keep playing like we are since the Phillies wont win any games because they play in a pitchers ballpark and have no power offense and a horrible bull pen. At least their rotation should keep them in the race.

  6. metsalltheway101 says:

man, im really tired to make fun of alou right now, so i just wish him the best of luck. if he gets injured again, then im going bill cosby on him.

  7. metsalltheway101 says:

are there any nets fans here, anybody interested making a nets blog. why is sny disrespecting the nets, i mean they’re better then the friggin knicks.

    • Adam_Jones says:

Because the YES network owns NETS coverage, fool.

    • Gina says:

I think there’s like 10 nets fans in the world.

      • mr.gee21 says:

If/when they finally move to Brooklyn, that is definitely going to change.

        • Gina says:

I hope so, but at this point I’m not sure I believe this move to Brooklyn is ever going to happen. First it was supposed to be 09, now 2010, and as far as I know they still haven’t broken ground.

  8. John The Mets Fan says:

Er, because YES broadcasts the Nets game, not SNY….little conflict of interest there buddy….

  9. metsalltheway101 says:

wut about the knicks, msg owns the knicks but sny still has a knicks blog. and they have a yankee blog even though they belong to YES

    • Adam_Jones says:

      “wut”

      • Adam_Jones says:

It’s not everyday someone comes on the metsblog comments section with the ghetto-talk.

        • John The Mets Fan says:

          LOL

        • metsalltheway101 says:

good comeback buddy. hillarious. u must have some more up ur sleeve, am i right? why dont u start making your jokes for tomorrow.

        • u may be right brotha. wut u’s dont know is he’s a funny guy, guy.

        • Adam_Jones says:

good comeback? I didn’t know “wut” was an attempt at insulting me? Isn’t a “comeback” an insult to an insult? I guess my day of ghetto-slang / ebonics has come and passed, but thankfully you are here to keep us refreshed. Hilarious is spelled with one ‘l’ (you should download Mozilla 3, it automatically spell checks for you.)

As far as jokes for tomorrow, I have a good one right “hurr” - Tony Armas Jr. gave up 8ER in 4IP, unfortunately now that I think about it, this may be more of a glimpse of reality than a joke.

  10. John The Mets Fan says:

I heard that Alou was going to take himself out of that game anyway because he wasnt feeling right. The mets organization might be trying to hide something here….

    • John The Mets Fan says:

Then go…leave….find yourself a Nets blog. Who cares about basketball really? Move on….

  11. metsalltheway101 says:

yes, but what about the other teams sny has a blog for. they have a blog for all metropolitian baseball, basketball, and football teams except the nets and they dont broadcast all those games.

  12. metsalltheway101 says:

jeez john, chill. im not saying im not a nets fan. as crazy as this sounds, im not JUST a mets fan. i have a life other than baseball unlike u, believe it or not. i am a nets fan and a proud one, and i would like to see a blog. im not like u that drools all over the mets 24/7

    • ravi3 says:

Well if you recall SNY’s tag line: “All Things New York Sports”, hence no coverage of the New Jersey Nets!….Jets/Giants don’t count.

    • Adam_Jones says:

Then it would be appropriate to change your moniker from “metsalltheway101″ lol.

  13. jcervone7 says:

Man, I really, REALLY hope Alou can stay healthy when he gets back. You can’t deny his production in the short amount of time he does actually play. Given the way the Mets have been hitting lately maybe they should put Alou in the two spot.

  14. John The Mets Fan says:

There are Nets blogs out there somewhere Im sure. But like others are trying to explain to you, YES owns the rights to broadcast NETs games….

    • I did not even know the NBA still existed. I know some sort of street ball where officials run the game and you can travel still occurs but the NBA… really?? It’s still here??

      • Adam_Jones says:

Tim Donaeghy killed the NBA. Now, street thugs run a 48 minute dunk contest wearing $200 shoes while idiots in striped shirts take bribes from crime families and determine the “winner” accordingly.

        • metsalltheway101 says:

tim donaghy runied the nba, is that why they just had one of the highest rated finals ever for any sport. nice try.

      • metsalltheway101 says:

basketball is more popular than baseball buddy. dont get me wrong, im a huge mets fan but im also a nets fan. check anywhere, in america the top 3 sports are football, basketball, and baseball in that order.

        • Gina says:

“basketball is more popular than baseball buddy.”

Not by much. and I’d venture to say a larger percentage of nba fans is made up of casual fans who know next to nothing about the game.

But anyway I’m with you. There are netsblogs but they all kind of suck, definitely not the extensive coverage you get from this blog. I understand why SNY wouldn’t have one but I wish someone did.

  15. Nutz15 says:

Ed Coleman was on yesterday, citing the fact that Alou wasn’t going to play in yesterday’s game — but it got rained out anyway, making it moot.

Alou’s not on track….I don’t see any reason why we should be led to believe that he is.

If anything, officials have said that they’ll be taking a longer look at him now than they usually do…as to not rush him back, only to go back on the D.L. hours later.

No one should be “expecting” anything out of Alou. I think this is a wounded thoroughbred on his last leg before the glue factory.

Squeeze that last bit of toothpaste from the tube before throwing it in the trash…..just my honest opinion.

  16. metsalltheway101 says:

is delgados option a player or club option?

  17. Nightlife says:

    Did El Duque get deported?

    • Adam_Jones says:

Once you reach American soil via wooden raft, you can’t be, idiot.

    • Jmiles says:

Yes he was deported to the NY Hospital for Special Surgery.
His checks are forwarded to his special account there.
he has a special bunyon wing there that he is helping to build

  18. John The Mets Fan says:

I cant believe people are actually considering waiting around for Alou. I mean seriously. Enough already. Time to hang it up and stop wasting a roster spot for if and when he’ll be ready. Enough with the broken down aging veterans already….

    • metsalltheway101 says:

ur right, i would love to be in the room when omar calls other teams about moises alou. who knows, there might be another steve phillips out there.

    • youknowwhatimsayin says:

      In total agreement here.

I know the Mets don’t have the chips to snag a “name” type of corner OF, but we need someone that can be relied on every day. I would look at players such as Randy Winn, who is having a very nice season in SF, or even Raul Ibanez, when the M’s start cleaning house. While neither is a power bat, both provide solid, steady play, and both still run well, and are guys you can put out there everyday without hesitation. This would actually makes the bench stronger, with Anderson, Chavez, Tatis going to more appropriate roles. Imagine Alou as THE righty stick off the bench for the stretch run (as much as I down on this club, I think there will be one), as opposed to being asked to be the every day LF/ man to cure the lineup.

Omar keeps trying to patch this up with Nixon, and playing guys like Anderson and Phillips out of position. It’s ridiculous, and unacceptable.

That Omar can’t (or won’t) come up with a viable solution there…. that is enough to get him fired. GM’s need to be creative from time to time.

      • grotesmask says:

Imagine…all the people (w/ the Mets it’s just so hard to do!)

Boy, Alou returning. Why, Gosh, it’s gotta be the most anticipated comeback in MLB–NOT!!

    • metsfrenzy says:

I agree with you. If Fmart can walk we should move him up. This team should sell not buy players. Let’s be realistic this team is not going to the playoffs. They are too old and can’t play well on a regular basis. Did anyone catch Castillo have another ball go through his legs-the man is only 5′7″-he can’t even bend down to the ground.

As for the F-Mart comment I have heard all the hype for 2 years about this guy. He also gets hurt every year. let’s see how good he is one way or the other. As for the others that we should lose - Delgald, Perez, Pedro, M. Anderson etc. it is time to move on-let’s see what we can get in return and what the minors have.

The Mets resemble a AAA ballclub anyway-before we fire Omar and crew let’s check what he has assembled and what we can get in return to restock for the future.

      • youknowwhatimsayin says:

I’d like to see how the next couple of weeks shape up for F-Mart. If he is raking, I don’t think it is that crazy that once he finishes playing in the Futures Game, the Mets tell him to stay put.

        • John The Mets Fan says:

F-Mart is 8 for 17 for the B-Mets since coming off an injury. Batting .299 with 4 dingers and 19 RBI overall, including a 3 run HR on Sunday.

  19. metsalltheway101 says:

no, el duque became a doctor, i mean the dude is an expert.

  20. robmenna says:

Delgado’s option is a mutual option. Which means Delgado would have to hold the Mets hostage for them to pick it up.

    • metsalltheway101 says:

ok thanks, so that means delgado wont be a met next year (HE BETTER NOT) and we can at least try to get texiera. and i was thinking about this last night, i got a list of all the players omar has let go that could have made key contributations to our team.

mike jacobs, jesus flores, jeff keppinger, lastings milledge, carlos gomez, brian bannister, kevin gregg, and heath bell.

now, some of those had to be let go and ended up for the better like gomez and milledge. and i know every gm will have his fair share of good and bad moves, but that is a ton of good, young talent right there. and this is just off the top of my head. the only good moves he has made is trading for maine, church/schneider, and oliver perez. the beltran signing and martinez and wagner signing is something i wouldnt count because anybody can go out and spend millions of dollars on a superstar, thats easy. but i mean, he has made some nice deals like maine, but look at all the players he has let go. seems a lot to me.

      • Roach2 says:

        Kevin Gregg??? Try again bud

        You people crack me up…

      • Gina says:

Mike Jacobs is good young talent? And it’s been said before they couldn’t predict someone would give Flores a roster spot and when was Kevin Gregg with us?

        • John The Mets Fan says:

Kevin Gregg? I dont even think he was in the National League until last year?……

        • John The Mets Fan says:

And Milledge just wasnt cutting it. He’s on the DL for the Nats now….

      • mr.gee21 says:

“the beltran signing and martinez and wagner signing is something i wouldnt count”

There were other teams interested in these players, mind you, and yet he managed to get them.

I’m not saying he’s a miracle worker for it, but he does deserve credit for those players (and blame for the team’s shortcomings, of course).

  21. Jmiles says:

I am in contact from time to time with a noted NY sports writer.
his view on Alou is it’s a tragedy because Moises in capable of hitting Ropes at will.he is such a great hitter. That is why this is such a drag because there is no doubt that if he was in the lineup we would be winning more games-I am also convinced of that as well

    Unfortunately time to move on

    • metsfrenzy says:

I agree. After sitting through the mess last night I am convinced the Mets should be sellers not buyers by the end of the month. This team is not going to get hot anytime soon-they would have to play .600 baseball the rest of the way- and this not happening.

I agree with you on Alou but even if he does come back how long is he going to stay healthy? Offer him up along with some of the others and start making plans for next year.

      • grotesmask says:

        Absolutely!

For the past two months I’ve awoken and kept telling myself, “Hey, maybe today they’ll start to go on that tear.” Now I’m convinced that’s been some silly thinking.

Team needs to be revamped and in a hurry.

        Sell, sell, sell!

    • Roach2 says:

That’s the great insight you provide from your sportswriter “contact”?

What–do you talk to the copy editor?

    • youknowwhatimsayin says:

      I disagree.

This team is a mess. Alou ain’t a savior, and he is not THE reason the Mets would win, despite what yahoos at SNY would like you to believe.

    • John The Mets Fan says:

LOL…you needed a “sports writer contact” to tell you THAT? Where have YOU been? We all know hes a good hitter when he’s healthy. But he’s never healthy. Typical “sports writers” dont know much but talk alot of bs………….

  22. Rangwx says:

Why can’t those be our alternate jerseys, but the way?

  23. grotesmask says:

Is everybody as excited as I am about Tony Armas Jr. hurling tonight?

  24. patrick says:

Alou just hurt his calf looking at the lineup card. Move along.
