David Wright left tonight’s game in the sixth inning, after ducking from a line drive while leading off first base.
…it looked like he may have tweaked a muscle in his back…however, the team has yet to make an official announcement to the pressbox on what is up with wright…
…Update…11:40 pm…
Following tonight’s game, Jerry Manuel told reporters that Wright most likely tweaked a groin muscle, but ‘he’s fine,’ and should be back in the lineup tomorrow.

As Gary Cohen said near the end of the broadcast, it would be nice if the team let us know what is going on with Wright. He’s our franchise player, and they’re going into a *huge* 4-game series with their rivals and the division leaders–the Phillies. It’s kind of important to have him in the lineup for these games, don’tcha think? So how about some news, guys?!?!?!
Or they can play it like they do in the NFL and not let the other team know. . .Maybe that is more important then letting the media know what is going on.
If he’s OK, he’ll be playing, so there really isn’t anything to keep from the other team.
And I don’t care about the media knowing–*I* want to know! :)
what good would that do in baseball??? in the nfl they practice for a week leading up to the game, so if you don’t know if the other team’s star will be playing, you need to do drills for as if he were playing and if he wasn’t playing (you would have a different game plan if lets say the backup qb with a bad arm from the opposing team was playing and couldnt throw deep, because then you’d practice with the defense in tight) ….. in baseball though, doesnt matter at all
oh and i didnt mean to sound rude or offended at all… lol sorry, it just came out that way… i was just making my point
I understand your point, just there is no reason to appease the media in this regard. Like the Phillies, the media (and the fans) can wait until the lineups come out tomorrow.
My original comment was really directed at Gary Cohen. . Who cares what he wants in regards to things like this.
He better be fine. Hopefully there was no news b/c there really isn’t anything wrong.
I’m with you on both counts, but I’d like to think that they would ease our minds by telling us that nothing is wrong ASAP!
Yeah that would have been nice. Though maybe they didn’t realize people were making a big deal of it. The guys on the Cards broadcast were clueless and didn’t mention Wright being hurt at all, so maybe they didn’t think it was something that needed to be addressed. I really hope that is the case.
That’s true. After all, a bunch of players on both sides were coming out because it was a blowout.
On the postgame show, Manuel said Wright is fine–it was his groin, but he was only taken out for precautionary reasons, didn’t want to come out, didn’t go for treatment immediately (so it must not have felt too bad), and will be in the lineup tomorrow.
manuel just said it’s precautionary – wright wanted to stay in
In fact, Wright threw a tantrum and pulled his uniform jersey out when Manuel told him.
I kid, I kid!
Manuel says he’ll be ready for tomorrow.
marlins lose
Manual said Wright appears to be O.K. Took him out as a precautionary measure. Said Wright felt a ‘twinge’ in the groin muscle but David said he feels fine now, didn’t think it needed any treatment.
Whew…..
According to the tabloids, Madonna’s been tweaking A-Rod’s groin muscle.
HI-O!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m here all week. Remember to tip your servers.
imagine this team without d-wright. i shudder to think.
imagine any team without their best hitter.
A few games without Wright might not be bad, as it will do one of two things serve to indicate how truly awful this offense is after Reyes and Wright, or propel them to step up there game and not rely on Reyes and Wright to make their beds and sleep in them.
Hey everyone, I was at the game (great night to be in Busch as a Mets fan, how do you like me now) Wright’s injury didn’t look as bad as the media is making it out to be. (not that they tell lies or anything) he walked and jogged around a bit so I think he’s OK.
What’s New…Both Journal News and WFan reports that Alou has stop rehab and will be re-evaluated on Monday by Doctors. At least Wright is okay. Can anyone tell me about Reyes and Keith outburst in the plane.

If Alou really has had another set back, and needs to shut it down again, he should just man up and officially retire. Just stop the side show.
He seems to be a stand up guy though, so he is probably really trying to come back to help the team, and not just play acting to keep getting a pay check.
But enough is enough. If his leg is so bad that he can’t play a few games after a month of rehab, hang it up or get surgery or something.
Though I never fully trust any kind of medical related report from his team, its great to hear that Wright is fine. Him being hurt, especially with the Phillies series now is one of the last things they need.
As for Alou, the only thing I’ve been surprised about was how early he started rehabbing. I don’t think he should retire, he’s not hurting anyone by trying to rehab and if he ever does make it back, and stay on the field for more than a couple innings/days, he could really help this team
