Agreed. We need that one stud bat (as do a lot of clubs with mediocre offenses) to make the whole line work. And we need more guys like Church, willing to run through a wall or a knee, if that's what's needed to win a game. Just to keep the veterans honest.

With Delgado declining, Alou not there, etc., we don't have that stud in the middle of the order. Find that one killer bat, and all the other members of the lineup look good again. Could Tex be it?

If it looks like we are out of it at the deadline, then I'm all for trading Ollie if we can get something really decent back. Every time he has a great outing ( see Ollie v. Yankees) his trade value goes through the roof. We need a 1st and 2nd base prospect. Maybe we have a first baseman at AA. Maybe not. Let's keep our options open.

For the record, no, NY does not deserve or demand a winner every year. We deserve and should demand a smart forward thinking organization that builds every year towards both short and long term goals.

I hope you're right. But that would only be ONE game. We need consistancy.

Relax buddy, this team is not a re-building project,. It's only missing some key pieces to really be a good, contending team for years to come.

With a core of:

Reyes
Wright
Beltran
Church.......................all reasonably young

And.....................

Santana
Maine
Pelfrey...........................all also reasonably

All we really need is a Good, productive hitting LF and a good power hitting 1st baseman along with one more quality starter and this would be a contending team.

Perfect, if we can keep Alou healthy long enough for this line-up to rack up some wins. This really lengthens the line-up and makes it much, much tougher for an opposing pitcher to pitch around.

No one on this team is un-tradable. Not even Santana & Wright.

We should rape this team for young prospects NOW. Maybe in 2-3 years we will then have something to cheer for.

church in the 4 hole? dear god... why not put wright in the 4 hole? he is clearly an RBI guy.

reyes
beltran
church
wright
delgado/delgrandma/delcrappo/delbummo
easley
castro
the revolving door in left field

in my perfect world, id like to see church batting 2nd. look at the splits- the mets offense was dynamite with church batting 2nd. i like carlos beltran in the 3- he reminds me a lot of steve somer's favorite RF bobby abreu, in that hes very selective and likes to take pitches. this is my lineup for the 4 games alou will play
