Mets Walk-Offs and Other Minutiae asks which Sports Night character he resembled at the time of Fernando Tatis‘ go-ahead, two-run homerun during yesterday’s game.

Robby O’Daniel of Hot Foot takes a look at the confusing timeline of when the player’s ballots for this year’s All Star Game were distrubuted.

Over at the Star-Ledger, Dan Graziano thinks it’s time to relieve the player’s of their voting duties for the All Star team reserves, writing…

“The rosters for next Tuesday’s All-Star Game came out yesterday, and they were a total mess. Players who don’t belong in the game are going. Players who do belong in the game are staying home. And the culprit in almost every case was a player ballot fraught with ignorance, jealousy, personal grudges and outright neglect.”

Graziano also points out that theses reasons are also why writers vote for MVP awards and the Hall of Fame.

  1. Who is this guy talking about not making it who should have made it? I don’t know anyone who did not make it that should have made it…..

Also everyone going deserves to be going. Like El Capitan of Boston. Those numbers are amazing he is putting up. Not to mention he caught a no-hitter… that is why he is going over Lester… because the catcher is obviously more important in the No-Hitter than the pitcher.

Add the Writers refusal to vote Jim Rice into the HOF to there list of sins. All b/c Rice didn’t like talking to reporters. Any player (drug free) who is the best power hitter in MLB for over a decade should be in the HOF.

A tragic abuse of power by the writers.

Sportswriters are some of the pettiest, cattiest people on earth. They know the kind of power they hold over these kinds of awards, and they wield it whenever they can. That’s why things like All Star Games, Golden Gloves, etc. should have no bearing on Hall of Fame consideration.

Of course, the same guys who vote on the HOF vote for those awards, so it’s almost like they have to consider those awards in order to retroactively justify their choices.

Exactly Danny. I couldnt help but laugh at the irony. So writers never fall victim to ignorance, jealousy, personal grudges, and downright neglect when they write ? Or when they vote for HOF? He is right about the player vote. Let the managers pick the teams.

  3. BaltimoreMets says:

I think a computer should take care of the voting.

  4. Does anyone else notice how quiet Metsblog is after a Mets win v. after a loss?

maybe someone should do a statistical analysis…

The writers don’t vote for the Gold Glove Award; coaches and managers do. So writers did not award Palmeiro the gold glove coaches and managers did.

  6. My mom voted me ‘most likely to succeed.’ now the bi*ch charges me for rent.

    • Mingo says:

Sounds like your mom is succeeding off of your good works. Take a lesson from her. Charge your little brother rent.

Gee, what a keen observation… In all the years of All Star voting this is the first I’ve ever heard of this…

Hey Mike, how come you always pimp the same sites? (or does it just seem that way?) There’s a lot of flavors out in the Mets blogosphere, grab a spoon!

  9. metz1 says:

yeah those writers are something then how did kirk gibson win mvp?

  10. metz1 says:

that year i think was 1988 and i recall strawman and mcreynolds both had better stats than gibson.

  11. metz1 says:

yeah and i know what gibson did in the playoffs[ but isnt that what postseason mvp is for?] for what he did that season he did not deserve an mvp.
