After last night’s extra inning win over the Phillies, Billy Wagner tried to look ahead, saying:
“We’ve had to grind it out and battle and win and we’ve found ways to do it, and we’ve got to be excited to come in here Monday and try to really make this a good road trip.”
David Wright, on the game:
“It’s a win. There’s only so many of these stepping stones, we’ve got to put it together and play a few good games here before the All-Star game. But, we’ll take it, it’s a win.”
Manager Jerry Manuel on how the team played:
“They were resilient today…It’s very large for us. Hopefully, this will be a springboard for us to take off. Monday is another big game for us.”
…i think it’s safe to say that every game is a big one from here on out…the mets have surely had to battle so far in this series, and hopefully they can close the series out on a high note tonight…

Call me crazy, but I LOVED it…not the Wags blown save, but everything else….that was a tension filled game, and the result was fantastic.
Joe Smith and Mighty Mouse deserve a free coffee!
I hate to be that guy again, but “Manuel on the upcoming road trip” – don’t you mean upcoming homestand?
Come on guys, get your sh*t together this morning…
Our schedule is great….
Philly tonight
Home for SF and the Rockies
AS break
4 in Cincy
6 at home–Phils and Cards
3 at Florida
By the end of July the Mets could be 3 games in first.
Phils sked is pretty brutal too.
How about they get 3 games ABOVE .500 for the first time in two months before they get 3 games ahead in the standings, m’kay
I gotta tell ya,,, it has gotten to the point where I wasn’t suprised when Werth hit the HR last night. Games between these two teams are incredibly tight.
It didn’t go down the way you draw it up, but a win is a win. Today’s game is extremely important now. Our boys need this one to get the split. These 4 games series can be pivotal. If you don’t split, you can either gain or lose 2 or even 4 games in the standings. Even though our boys should be going for the sweep todnight, I will be happy to come away with the split and come home and beat up on the Giants and Rockies.
Let’s Go Mets!
You know we already have guaranteed at least a split by winning 2 of 3, right?
SPlIT?? Aren’t we going for the series win tonight? It was tough enough just getting back to .500 but the team is finally there. This is exactly the kind of heart wrenching type of loss that we have suffered in the past and the team is finally showing some fight and not sulking in the bad moments. Now let’s get some momentum tonight and beat down the Phils to show them the Mets still need to be contended with.
LET’S GO METS!!!!!
Going for the sweep?? We lost the first game of a 4 game series….Mets are lucky to get a split here.
And how many times this season have the Mets blown opportunities to step up to the plate, grow a backbone and show some guts in “pivotal” games?? Please. This team gives NO indication that it can or will win this series against the Phillies. Becasue thats what mediocre teams do. The Phillies are contenders and they’ve been playing that way since last year. They like their manager and they play hard for him, which is why the Phils will win tonight and not the Mets. And “beat up on the Giants and Rockies”?? LOL…….surely you’re joking. One thing this mets team DOES do is play DOWN to their opponents. Expect more of the same versus the Rockies and Giants…..
Correction: the Phils are lucky to get a split here. The Mets already clinched a split.
did you just write “clinched a split”
Well, the Mets seemed to have liked their manager too yesterday, since they won the game! Although IMO liking the manager has little to do with it.
And why shouldn’t the Met’s take the series? They already won 2 of 3, have gotten more hits, and held the Phils awesome offense to 9 runs in 3+ games.
THe Phils had that one hot stretch this year where they looked like the ‘27 Stankees, but since then, they haven’t looked good, and have a below .500 record. And that is with their BP of unknowns and retreads (mostly) pitching out of their minds. If that comes back to earth, it will not bode well for them.
If CHurch is playing next week at home, how the Mets perform against 2 week teams will be a real good sign of how the Manual era might play out.
And frankly, their problems have been lack of talent, not lack of effort, against some of these teams.
Brain Fart!
Sorry….. too early for me.
You’re absolutely right.
Battle for the win…yea this team has no heart whatsoever….(sarcasm)
