Yup, exactly. They did the same thing with Royce Ring too. It's like they have set in their mind when ever someone isn't doing well or gets hurt, Muniz is going to be the guy coming up. He had a great year in AA ball a couple years ago and his stuff isn't even bad, but it's hard for him to develop. I know they had him in the closer's role in AAA, but it screws up the rhythym when you're continually promoted to throw in blow out situations.

They made the same mistake with Jorge Sosa, Dave Williams and Nelson Figueroa. They don't give these guy's any experience in long relief roles (or short relief in Sosa's case) that would be been mentally valuable. I understand they're out to win games down there too, but the major league team is obviously the top priority. Overall though, they still have some depth to work with. They should have recalled Claudio Vargas because it's likely there will be teams interested in him come the deadline.

They probably wouldn't get a lot back for him, but a couple lower level prospects wouldn't hurt. Maybe they could swing them in another trade for a corner OF. With Orlando Hernandez coming back, they won't really need him. El Duque should do well in that role, but there's really no shot of him coming back beyond that. Same thing with Alou and Delgado. The only free agent's the Mets will likely try to bring back in the offseason are Easley, Tatis and possibly Oliver Perez and Pedro Martinez if they develop enough consistency.

it's the same thing with heath bell ... how much can you expect from a guy who is up and down and thrown into random situations with no set role?

Honestly, who really cares that Tony Armas Jr. ended up on the DL? He should have been demoted by now. He wasn't pitching well. Vargas is better, especially as a spot starter. So is Figueroa. They gave Tony Armas his shot at a start and he got good run support that Johan could have desperately used, but the point is he's just another stopgap guy.

Kind of like Trot Nixon. And Matt Wise. These guy's aren't even on the disabled list. They all aren't even good enough to be on the team. Originally, Smith was supposed to be in the minors for Wise, but he's having a solid year. Obviously El Duque will slot into that Armas/Muniz role. El Duque probably won't be a starter. I don't see why he'd have to yet. Oliver's coming around a little, but he can crunch against crappy teams. Pedro has to show more too before we're able to rely on him down the stretch. This will mean the Mets may not have to trade prospects for a starting pitcher like Vicente Padilla, because they're more in need of an outfielder or a right-handed reliever in my opinion.

Are they going to run out of options with Carlos Muniz too? Don't you get like 7? It feels like they've done it at least five teams bringing him up and down this year. If they're buyers in the market, it's possible they could try to use him in a trade I'm taking it.

Right now the Mets don't need any negative influences, such as seeing Alou get taken out of a game in the third inning. Hopefully Alou and Castillo are ready fresh right off the DL next year. Last year they did the same exact thing with Lastings Milledge and he played decent. They may activate Nixon around the same time too, but that's only because Aguila and Evans really are useless to this team right now.

Man, what a bunch of old scrubs we have! But, in the spirit of the Even-Steven 2008 Mets that has been discussed some spots including on It's Mets For Me (referring to that Seinfeld episode), Armas can go down and eventually Old Duque could come back from the shadows of the infirmed.

FIne, but I don't want to see him pitch in tight situations yet. Smith is proving he can handle them.

I think Heilman will have his typical second half surge for us, so he's restoring my confidence somewhat. Muniz simply hasn't pitched enough to be worthy of condemnation, right?

Dear Fan,

I'm Carlos Muniz. Right now I'm up again but soon I'll be down again and then up again.

I would like to turn this into a song. The more money I make is nice for me and for you is nice (to know).

Warm Regards,
Carlos P. Muniz

Muniz ...

Do you keep a separate toothbrush in N.O. and put one in a travel bag?

They don't travel that well. You know they are moist etc. So I am just curious about your system.

When you get back from your trip if you do have two, don't forget to air the travel one so it dries, then put it back in the bag.

goodluck.
