y no nick Evans? He destroys lefties!

While you watch the game, it may help to be on your PC voting!

  3. losmets5 says:

Don’t forget to vote for Wright during commercial breaks!!!

    VOTE RIGHT, VOTE WRIGHT

    • The Slider says:

No. Don’t vote David Wright. No ASG, NO HOME RUN DERBY, no nothing. I want David rested for the big second half push. Sorry.

      • adropofvenom says:

Playing 2 at-bats of a game is not going to tire him out, don’t be stupid.

And it’s pretty clear that Jerry Manuel believes in keeping his players rested so it’s not an issue. If Wright needs a day off, he’ll get a day off.

        • The Slider says:

          No.

        • Gasface77 says:

I have heard Wright say numerous times that he wants to play in the All Star game. I heard him say it on Russo just before. I’ll do whatever Wright wants, he is my god. I just voted for him 50 times. You all should do the same.

        • The Slider says:

“[H]e’s my god”?????? Jesus, man, get a grip.

        • kendychavez says:

are you doubting the divinity of david wright? heathen! you should be hanged!

      • 911nafstem says:

I agree with you, Slider. The All-Star game is pointless (yes it counts for something, but Wright or no will make no difference). The guy has played a ton, let him rest during the break. We’re all going to forget about the All-Star game the day after anyway.

    • Mr North Jersey says:

You know, Wright once said he’d give up all the All-Star game appearances and Silver Sluggers and Gold Gloves for a W.S. Ring. I think we should abide him and not vote him in.

      World Series or Bust.

Not that Wright isn’t deserving but maybe his comments will become more of a prophecy of things to come.

      Just a thought

      • toomanyuniforms says:

Well, this is a real Algonquin Roundtable right here. Let’s go through this slowly: The Premise. Is. FALSE. There is NO evidence that Wright’s attendance at the All-Star game will do ANYTHING to help OR HURT his second half performance. You are not baseball players, trainers, managers, or coaches. You have no idea what you are talking about. To feel clever (I guess), you are punishing Wright for being a productive Met. This is beyond idiotic. If nothing else, understand that you and your ilk drive a wedge between fans and players. If you resent the players so much, DON’T PAY TO WATCH THEM PLAY.

        Sheesh.

        • 911nafstem says:

          Thanks Mr. Seinfeld

        • toomanyuniforms says:

          That’s the reference, yes.

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

Well said. But I’m sure that will fall on deaf ears to those who just refuse to get it.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

No, they’re the “Real” fans who know that the MEts have no shot at winning the World Series if David Wright plays in the All-Star game.

Just typing that makes my head spin, it’s so blindingly idiotic. . . .

  4. grotesmask says:

There’s a lot of power in our lineup. Let’s get hits for Johan Sebastian!

  5. el_giacomo says:

Are we taking a break from the Fan Confidence polls this week due to the mid-season report cards? Just curious, as I hadn’t seen a poll for Manuel today or one on Monday…

  6. metsflip says:

guys texting is faster if u want to vote
    36196, text N5

  7. el_giacomo says:

    LET’S GO RUN SUPPORT!

    • ebfnyc says:

Run Support: I was on my way to the stadium and then I realized that Santana was pitching so I’ve gone home.

  8. ebfnyc says:

    Hello fans its Moises Alou…

    I just wanted to give you update;

I’m in Bermuda. If Madonna Calls tell her Arod is home.

  9. ebfnyc says:

    Madonna: I want Nick Evans.
Mets PR Guru: We can arrange that for you Madonna.
    Madonna: On a leash.

  10. robmenna says:

    VOTE DAVID!

David most likely has a clause in his contract that gives him a bonus probably of somewhere of 50,000 – 100,000.

Knowing David he will immediately donate this to charity like he does with a lot of his money.

So vote for Wright and contribute to charity. It takes 5 minutes to vote 25 times.

  11. Dafatone80 says:

    Shocking statistic of the day:

Mets are 4th in the NL in runs, and 7th in MLB.

    That’s runs, as in offense.

  12. Gina says:

Seeing this line-up every day is starting to get depressing.

    • Dafatone80 says:

And yet, we keep smacking teams around.

Yeah, it won’t last with Tatis in left, but I’ll take it while I can. 7th in MLB in runs! We can hit! Woo!

    • 911nafstem says:

This lineup has gotten 14 hits 4 games in a row.

      • Gina says:

That’s even more shocking, and hilarious at the same time. How often do teams lose their starting rf,lf, and 2b and get better.

        • SuicideWatch says:

This team can survive the next 70+ games with Chavez and Tatis in the OF.

        • SuicideWatch says:

          **can’t

        • Gina says:

I think we’re going to end up having to survive with at least one of them. I wouldn’t count on Alou coming back for an extended period of time and I really would be surprised if Church wasn’t shut down for the season. Even if we trade for a bat (Adam Dunn!) we’re going to need either Chavez or Tatis.

    • grotesmask says:

Bizarre. Doesn’t depress me as long as we win!

  13. ReyesMets says:

Ron paraphrasing Jerry Manuel regarding why he took Johan Santana out after 8 inning against Philly:

“It was more about making sure he didn’t get a loss…as opposed to not letting him go out there and go for the win. Sometimes you need positive affirmation.”

Is that the most INSANE thing you’ve ever heard?? This is $150 million f-cking dollar pitcher!!!! With 2 Cy Youngs!!! LET’S GO FOR THE WIN NEXT TIME

    • SuicideWatch says:

      I agree

    • The Slider says:

Right. Johan needs “positive affirmation”? You must be kidding me.. That’s about the most stupid things I’ve ever heard a manager say. I think getting paid $25 million a year is enough “positive affirmation” Johan need. Now, take the ball like a man and go out and give me 10 innings.

  14. SuicideWatch says:

I just voted for Wright 40 times

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Go read the above idiocy from “North Jersey” and “Slider.” It will make you want to vote 40 more times.

      • The Slider says:

Don’t make me find you. I swear I will. Then you’ll be very sorry.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Way to be creepy AND pathetic. Grow up.

        • gipper82475 says:

Let’s see – weird creepy guy with name we’ve never seen on here before vs. TMU.

          I vote for TMU.

        • NCMetsGuy says:

I think I have seen slider and those wonderful insiteful comments of his on here before. Just not often.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Hmmm. . . Let’s see. Listens to WIP in Philly, doesn’t want Wright on the All-Star team, posts creepy, threatening comments. . . . Phillies fan incognito?

  15. NCMetsGuy says:

I swear does Johan pitch for the Nats or something? How can a pitcher have an under 3 ERA and be .500.

  16. robmenna says:

    Answer: Aaron Heilman, Delgado, Castillo

  17. Nightlife says:

    Good AB by Wright.

    • Nightlife says:

      Oh and the steal.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      And he steals second!
Come on, Carlos – get him home.

    • The Slider says:

      . . . a non-all star.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

        And your point is ????

        • The Slider says:

Lighten up, kid. I could care less about the the joke of an All-Star Game that Bud Selig has promoted.

I could care less whether Wright plays in the ASG. The playoffs are the only thing on my mind.

          Ok?

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

          O.K.? Not even close….
‘I could care less’. Just put the period there. That says it all.

And hey dude, thanks for the compliment on ‘kid’. If you only knew….

        • NCMetsGuy says:

Besides that quote is wrong and misunderstood? You really could care less?
I think you mean couldn’t care less.

        • The Slider says:

          Oh, my mistake . . . senile?

        • grotesmask says:

Slider Baby, it’s “I couldn’t care less.” Get it?

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

Enough. Truce. I’m here to enjoy the game and my fellow bloggers.
          Let’s just move on……

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

And that comment was just for The Slider dude….

  18. khmustache says:

how does keith get sooooooooo many days off a year?!! his job is not stressful, tiresome or crappy!!!

oh yeah…he’s keith hernandez, he was mvp in 1979

  19. The Slider says:

Boy, this Sanchez kid look gooooooooood. The Giants have some great young pitching talent.

On the Philadelphia sports talk radio station (WIP – it sucks), they were discussing (hypothetically?) a trade of Ryan Howard for Tim Lincecum. Interesting proposal.

    • khmustache says:

not even the giants would make that trade. mo vaugn jr’s best years are behind them

      • 911nafstem says:

A young phenom pitcher for a DH….I don’t think so. Not even Sabian is that stupid.

        • ReyesMets says:

Not to mention the fact that Ryan Howard is 5 years older (and doesn’t rate to age well given his body type) and has already reached arbitration (and thus is about 10 times more expensive than Lincecum)

        • The do have about the same number of strikeouts this year…that has to be good for something.

        • The Slider says:

I think I agree with you guys. And Howard strikes out way too much for my taste. But, he is hitting over .300 with RISP and he is leading MLB in RBIs after a crappy first half.

        • ReyesMets says:

RBI are completely context/opportunity driven. They mean almost nothing when evaluating a player

  20. robmenna says:

A caller on the radio made a good point today. Robinson Cano cam out with a jug of gatorade today and dumped it on Bobby Abreu. Cano is hitting .255 and has done nothing all year. It is July and the Yankees are 6 1/2 out of first. But yet the media says nothing.

What if that was Jose Reyes? He would get crucified.

    • 911nafstem says:

Cano was never on a team that collapsed, and that makes all the difference.

    • khmustache says:

absolutely agree, lupica, francessa and wallace matthews would make it the number one topic for the rest of the week if jose did that.

  21. Nightlife says:

Oh nice, they are showing this game for a moment on ESPN now while the Phillies game is in a rain delay so I don’t get a 30 second delay like on MLB.tv.

  22. MetsFan4Decades says:

Some run support for Johan early in the game please, boys. That would be a novelty for him….

  23. ReyesMets says:

Sanchez is very tough. He’s going to be a very good pitcher. The Giants have a very nice young staff to build around if they ever decide to develop any hitters with talent

  24. wa2k99 says:

Well at least we’re working the count

  25. 911nafstem says:

Looks like Santana is going to have no margin for error yet again.

  26. The Slider says:

Sanchez reminds me so much of Dave Righetti it’s scary.

  27. wa2k99 says:

    Wow, nasty slider

  28. Philnym31 says:

Weren’t we rumored to be interested in acquiring Johnathan Sanchez at some point in recent years? Even Wandy Rodriguez too, if I remember correctly? Boy, they are having fine seasons.

  29. marvelousmarv says:

Though i’m not watching, looking at Sanchez’s nos., this is no walk in the park.

  30. SuicideWatch says:

This is on Wikipedia on the possible end of Mike and the Maddog…

On June 22, 2008, Neil Best of Newsday reported that Francesa and Russo were considering ending their radio show.[32] The reports stated that the relationship between the radio duo had soured in recent months, and is the likely cause of the split.[32] Although Russo’s contract with WFAN runs until October of 2009, Francesa’s contract situation is unknown.[19] Newsday contacted Francesa on vacation, where he stated “no comment”. On June 23, Russo, doing the show alone, denied the rumors.[33] He said that he and Francesa had been “fighting like cats and dogs” until early May, but that their relationship had since improved. “Nineteen, 20 years, you’re going to have your issues occasionally,” he said. “You gotta get through those issues.”[33] Some fans have suggested that the rumors were created as a contract negotiation ploy or a publicity stunt.[32] The next broadcast where they are both expected together is July 11, 2008.[34] On June 27, 2008, Francesa acknowledged the show is at a “crossroad”, and could not guarantee the show would last through the summer. Francesa also stated he and Russo had not spoken since reports of their possible breakup came out.[21]

    • SuicideWatch says:

Personally I prefer Chris by himself (yes, including the Tennis talk) over Mike, he’s just too arrogant.

      • The Slider says:

You respond to your own posts too?

      • He strikes me as a bit crazy. Several times in the program he’ll become despondent, mutter things away from the microphone, and then let dead air settle for sometimes 4 or 5 seconds at a time.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      Interesting…..
As a Met fan, that would not break my heart.

    • khmustache says:

so who are we going to get to guess the ratings for sports events for 45 minutes at a time?!!!

also do they really need a commercial break every 5 minutes?

  31. The Slider says:

We got ourselves a real 1960s pitchers duel Let’s see if they’ll pitch up to 7th inning. Johan needs some “positive affirmation.”

  32. DavidDog says:

mets really need to get this guy’s pitch count up… he looks untouchable. who the hell is he, btw?

    • A sick pitcher on a crappy team.

    • The Slider says:

Dave Righetti, Jr. (but they changed his name to Jonathan Sanchez).

    • ginsengbomb says:

He’s a young guy but not without promise — strikeout guy who walks too many hitters. He’s actually walking guys at the same rate this year as last but, thus far, fewer hits are pushing them in.

      He’s pretty good.

He is, however, vastly outmatched in this pitching matchup, so the Mets really ought to win. You can’t legitimately expect even a pitcher of Santana’s caliber to win every start, but against a relatively anemic offense and a middling pitcher, you should expect the Mets to win this one. We shall see!

      • ReyesMets says:

Agree with everything you just wote except for you calling Sanchez a “middling pitcher.” Sanchez is a good pitcher–maybe even very good. A middling pitcher is a guy like Kyle Lohse or Carlos Silva or Nate Robertson type

  33. toomanyuniforms says:

Tater doesn’t hit in the first 9 innings.

  34. ginsengbomb says:

    Santana looks freaking fantastic right now. 24 pitches, 19 for strikes, 3 K’s, 1 H, 0 BB…

    Give this guy a B!

  35. toomanyuniforms says:

Incidentally, I really wouldn’t mind if the Mets were to get Winn. Just throwing that out there.

    • ginsengbomb says:

Agreed. As long as it cost us next to nothing. He’s certainly an upgrade over Endy and Tatis.

      • toomanyuniforms says:

I’m not sure what his contract situation is. The Giants do seem to like to bat him third, so they’ll probably wait until they really sag in the standings to send him anywhere.

    • The Slider says:

      Bill Hall?

      • TKFJ says:

        Hes really bad this year.

        • The Slider says:

Yeah. Brewers move him around to much and he’s tired of it.

        • The Slider says:

Hey TKFJ, are you TKF from the knicks blog on realgm?

        • ginsengbomb says:

Hall would be vaguely interesting but he’s really only had one good year and one decent one. This year and last he’s been pretty poor. I’d prefer Winn, easily, and Hall might actually be more expensive because of incorrectly perceived upside.

        • TKFJ says:

No, it stands for TheKidFromJersey, i actually belong to the Nets board on realgm.

        • The Slider says:

We need more power production from LF than Winn would provide IMO.

        • The Slider says:

Nets, huh? What do you prognosticate for the coming season from the Nets? Were you happy with their draft picks?

        • ginsengbomb says:

I agree we need more power than Winn would provide, but I don’t think Hall would provide it. Take that aberrant 35 homer season away and do you consider him a power hitter?

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Honestly, I’d prefer Hall, but I don’t think the Crew would trade him to a team that could be battling them for a wild card or in the playoffs. With the Sabathia deal, they’re in it until the bitter end. Winn would probably be available, and possibly for less. He doesn’t hit a ton of homers, but he can do virtually everything else. He’s . . . dare I say it . . . gritty.

        • TKFJ says:

This is definitely a rebuilding year, but I thought both Lopez and Douglas-Roberts were steals at their respective spots. Andersen was a surprise but it looks like he has some good talent, afterall he led the Pac-10 in scoring as a Sophomore i believe. I’m not expecting much, but they should be a good exciting young team.

        • NCMetsGuy says:

They need bullpen help so I could see that working. Hall would be a salary dump for them because he is signed through 2010. Maybe even Show and Muniz.

      • njmetfan11 says:

I really like Bill Hall. He is a hard-nosed player that can play any position and he has good pop, and he has proven that he can hit around .275.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

I like him, too, but I really doubt the Brewers deal him within the NL while they’re still contending.

        • ginsengbomb says:

He hit .275 or so for two seasons… I’m just not feeling it.

That being said, if he could revert to his ‘05 – ‘06 performance he’d be great.

        • NCMetsGuy says:

If we brought him over just to hit LHP then it would be great. He has over 1.000 OPS this year against LHP. And has played CF, 3B, SS, and 2B this season.

      • Gina says:

He’s slugging .414 this year, and like .250 or something on the road. We might as well stick with the players we have.

  36. gomets6091 says:

dammit…I was getting the Mets game on ESPN while the Phils-Cards were in a rain delay, but now they’re back, and I get to watch 2 of my 3 least favorite teams in the NL play. Boooo

    • The Slider says:

Root for the Cards, please (trust me on this one).

      • gomets6091 says:

oh no, trust me I am, I just don’t like them. The Phillies are by far my least favorite team…I would root for the Yankees to sweep them if it came to it.

  37. MetsFan4Decades says:

Cohen ‘Santana pitching as though he knows he has to pitch a shut out’.
Pretty sad that the boys can’t get him a few runs early here. He’s probably thinking ‘why am I the only one pitching here who never has a good lead to work with’?

I think those that gave Johan a C or less needs to cut him a break – b/c he certainly isn’t getting any so far this year….

    • ginsengbomb says:

I’d say the same about a B or less, too, to be honest. He’s top 5-7 in the NL, easily, so far.

Just… not in terms of his win-loss record.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

I gave him a B. Felt his stats deserved it and he’s pitched in some tough luck games this year so far (i.e. no run support).

        • ginsengbomb says:

I don’t get that, though. Putting aside his win-loss record (which means nothing in terms of performance), find me a stat where he’s not in the top 6 in the NL?

There are one or two, but even there he’s in the top 10 and you’ll be hard pressed to find them ;).

        • Gina says:

          Awesome.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Let’s let Sanchez go another time through the order before we predict 1-0.

  38. 911nafstem says:

You gotta wonder, especially after Santana’s comments, whether the players subconsciously zone out when Johan pitches because they don’t particularly like the guy.

    • ginsengbomb says:

If that’s the case, fire everybody on the team but Johan Santana.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Well damn….even if they don’t like the guy, they should at least LIKE WINNING – which is the bigger picture, after all.

As much as I think Johan is a top pitcher, from his interviews, I don’t get the feeling he eithergets it about being a team player, or cares to be.
Haven’t made up my mind about that yet…..

      • ginsengbomb says:

Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s weird — he came in with an enormous team guy reputation but his comments, particularly of late, haven’t been right in line with that. That being said, I can certainly understand his frustration. When you go 0-6 with a sub-3.00 ERA, you’re going to be a bit angry.

But, even if he feels annoyed, he shouldn’t be expressing it in interviews.

      • 911nafstem says:

I think he has a little bit of Greg Maddux syndrome.

        • 911nafstem says:

What I mean by that is I think Johan would rather leave a game in the 6th giving up a run than win a game giving up 5 through 8.

        • ginsengbomb says:

The two situations are incomparable. The second one, where he wins after giving up 5 through 8, requires him to know in advance that he will win despite having a very bad game.

Without benefit of foresight, I prefer giving up 1 in 6, don’t you?

I am SURE Santana would rather win the game. Everything about his makeup suggests that he’s a very intense competitor. He’s not an ice-cold stats-resume guy.

        • 911nafstem says:

What I was trying to get at is I think that Santana would rather leave a game in doubt if he felt he might possibly be losing it rather than having a Jack Morris-like “pitching until he’s pulled from the mound” mentality.

        • ginsengbomb says:

Yeah, I get you, and my initial reply was a bit silly.

Regardless, I’d actually prefer to have a pitcher leave the game if he knows he’s losing his sharpness rather than have a warrior mentality. Warrior mentalities are pretty overrated.

Grady Little: Dude, you are completely sucking right now.
Pedro Martinez: No, I am Pedro Martinez. I am a warrior.
Grady Little: You’re right, my bad.

I know that’s a cheap example but, really, if the choice is between a guy who can tell he’s losing his stuff and leaves after 6 having pitched a sharp game and a guy who is so completely stubborn that he stays in to give up another 4 runs, don’t you take the first guy?

        • ginsengbomb says:

I mean, the warrior seems much more focused on himself. The guy who leaves the game is a team player who wants to win.

        • 911nafstem says:

          That’s highly debatable

        • ginsengbomb says:

I agree, hence the debate ;).

          Here’s how I see it:

The team player knows he’s losing his good stuff and allows himself to be taken out because he knows the opposing team’s odds of scoring runs against him is increasing. Better to get a fresh arm in there.

The warrior player doesn’t care that he’s losing his good stuff, he wants to stay in because he’s a frickin rock star, a warrior, a gamer, in it to the end, you can’t get ME off this mound because it is MY mound. Forget the fresh arms in the bullpen, this is MY start.

This is all silliness, of course. Who cares who is a warrior and who isn’t, as long as you have a SP who minimizes the opposition’s ability to score runs? I couldn’t possibly care less about someone’s attitude, I just care that everybody do whatever they can to win.

        • ginsengbomb says:

Basically, to me, it comes down to this.

          Situation A:
You leave after 6, having given up 1 run.

          Situation B:
You insist on staying in, and give up 4 runs in the next two innings.

          Situation B < Situation A

    • CitizenSnips says:

Why because he makes good points? The offense isn’t backing him up. You’d be upset too if people were blaming you for what your team isn’t doing.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m not blaming him – and I agree with you. I think the guy is totally frustrated b/c of no run support for him. Just think that frustration at his team mates should be expressed to the NY media. They just blow it all up out of proportion…..

    • toomanyuniforms says:

I doubt they zone out. In fact, quite the opposite. This team doesn’t seem to produce when they “press.” I think they are acutely aware that they’ve let Santana down, and want to rectify that.

  39. ReyesMets says:

    That was close…

  40. ginsengbomb says:

They should plate a run here. They really should.

  41. toomanyuniforms says:

Most hilarious and ill-advised double steal ever? Reyes would probably beat Castro to third.

  42. The Slider says:

Does Sanchez remind you guys/gals of Ollie Perez?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I don’t know. Has he pitched brilliantly one game and not made it out of the first in the next?

    • ginsengbomb says:

Heh. Yeah, good call. Let’s hope we aren’t running into Ollie on a good night.

    • gomets6091 says:

yep. I feel like we had this conversation on here back when we faced him in June.

  43. Come on, Wright! Campaign!

  44. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Sigh….
Is this gonna be one of those games instead of 14 hits, they leave 14 runners on base?

  45. TKFJ says:

God, this team can’t score for Johan.

  46. The Slider says:

Tatis is just a horrible outfielder.

  47. wa2k99 says:

I don’t know why, but I was thinking Aurilia was hitting it out. Close call.

  48. 911nafstem says:

Johan better be careful, the pitcher is coming up

  49. Willierocks says:

With the way D wright stroke out the first two times he was up today he deserves to be on the NONE-star team instead.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Is there an “All-Grammar Team” for us to put you on?

    • TKFJ says:

      1. What?

      2. He struck out once.

      3. Willie arent you supposed to be playing bingo with your mom tonight.

      4. Im guessing you are a closet Yankee lover.

  50. 911nafstem says:

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that we won’t be seeing a looping David Wright commercial on YES anytime soon.

  51. TKFJ says:

    Sanchez is dominant.

  52. njmetfan11 says:

I hate the Jeter commercial. I bet the edge that Jeter has that they always say is ‘roids.

    • ginsengbomb says:

I think the spot is intended to be ironic — that nobody thinks Jeter has an “edge.” He’s not “edgy.” He’s, like, good all-american derek jeter.

That being said, it’s completely retarded.

  53. toomanyuniforms says:

Methinks I spoke too soon. This DOES look like a 1-0 affair. For Santana. Again.

  54. njmetfan11 says:

Wow, nice hustle by Delgado. Offense is struggling but I like the hustle.

  55. khmustache says:

delgado has become a different player these past few weeks…i like this version

  56. ReyesMets says:

    Excellent AB there Delgado

  57. TKFJ says:

Sanchez is starting to get erratic, eerily similar of Ollie.

  58. The Slider says:

    Sanchez is now Evil Ollie.

  59. 911nafstem says:

Just give me a cheap single here

  60. The Slider says:

Tatis has steel ones to take that pitch.

  61. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K. Castro. It’s up to you here.

  62. wa2k99 says:

Sanchez isn’t getting past the 6th inning. Almost 80 pitches

  63. toomanyuniforms says:

    Walk Castro here?

  64. 911nafstem says:

    He’s not getting anything here

  65. Let’s see Castro walk and Santana hit a grand slam. Real men make their own support.

  66. njmetfan11 says:

    CASTRO BABY!!!

  67. metsthebest says:

    YES!!!

  68. khmustache says:

    SHREK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  69. The Slider says:

    SSSSHHHHHRRRRRRREKKKKKKKKK!

  70. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Ramon is THE MAN.
    Woo-Hoo !!!!!!!

  71. TKFJ says:

THE AMAZING FOREHEAD STRIKES AGAIN, YEA BABY.

  72. 911nafstem says:

    CATCHER PLATOON!!!!

  73. ginsengbomb says:

    That was awesome.

  74. wa2k99 says:

    CASTRO!!!

  75. The Slider says:

    Bwahahahahahaha

  76. el_giacomo says:

    SHREK!!!!!!!!

  77. ReyesMets says:

    GOOD GOD….THAT’S RAMON CASTRO’S MUSIC!

  78. Nightlife says:

Ramon never fails to make me LOL after he hits a home run.

  79. NCMetsGuy says:

Why on EARTH did they pitch to Castro with the pitcher coming up? Is Willie over there?

    • ginsengbomb says:

Anyone remember a Mets-Braves game where they pitched to Rey-O with a runner in scoring position and the pitcher due up and he rapped a game-winning (or at least go-ahead) double?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

HAHAHA – Who knows, who cares?
Castro took advantage, that’s for sure.

    • The Slider says:

Hey. Watch it. Don’t go there.

    • njmetfan11 says:

Everyone wants the pitcher to lead off the next inning. I think they should have walked Castro, but I can see why they didn’t.

  80. 911nafstem says:

His RBI to at-bat ratio is ridiculous

  81. robmenna says:

    DONKEY KONG!!!!!!!!

  82. toomanyuniforms says:

That decision will be rightly second-guessed.

  83. The Slider says:

    I Heart Shrek.

  84. Gina says:

I was hoping Castro would walk or single so Johan could redeem himself with a grand slam.

  85. robmenna says:

    SHREK or DONKEY KONG

    PLEASE VOTE

  86. metsthebest says:

Man Castro makes Jerry Manuel look like a smart man, with that homerun, and with this, Santana now has a 3 run lead, hope he can hold on for a couple more innings the game ends, or maybe perhaps even better, it rains.

  87. 911nafstem says:

Ok, no more whining about run support, Pelfrey had a 3 run lead for most of last game against Lincecum

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Are you kidding – no whining here. That HR will probably be huge in this game……

    • ginsengbomb says:

You’re right, this one game where the Mets have scored 3 runs in support of Johan completely erases the 8 previous games where the Mets scored 2 or less.

  88. wa2k99 says:

Get through this half inning and that is an official game

  89. guierllNO MOta says:

3 runs for Santana? what is the christmas in july? if the mets gave him 3 runs in every start and kept billy wagner on the bench he would be at least 12-3

  90. mex84 says:

Earl Weaver said it, “Give me a three run homer and some good pitching”. Lets go Mets!

  91. robmenna says:

SHREK, KING HIPPO OR DONKEY KONG. CAN WE GET A SURVEY

  92. The Slider says:

Yes, Tatty. Just get out of the way.

  93. 911nafstem says:

They should have a Chris Russo cam for the rest of the game at the bottom of the screen.

  94. metsthebest says:

oh man, I was scared for Reyes and Tatis for a moment, the Mets don’t need another concussion problem.

  95. wa2k99 says:

That slide would have ended Alou’s season

  96. The Slider says:

One more out. One more out. One more out.

  97. MetsFan4Decades says:

Poor Tatis. Have to give him an ‘A’ for effort out there in LF…..

  98. wa2k99 says:

    GET THIS OUT!!!

  99. 911nafstem says:

Throw it down the freaking middle

  100. wa2k99 says:

    This is hysterical

  101. The Slider says:

    Throw a freakin’ fast ball

  102. Dafatone80 says:

In Santana’s defense, I’d imagine it’s not easy to throw strikes in this rain.

  103. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, no. If at anytime you needed an out here, Johan…..

  104. 911nafstem says:

    YES

  105. The Slider says:

    Yesssssssssssssssssssssssss.

  106. zen says:

    put it in the books!

  107. metsthebest says:

Yes now that’s an official game, I hope it stays raining.

  108. MetsFan4Decades says:

‘And we know have an official game’.
    Yo, baby!

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      Woops – ‘now’.
Where’s that edit feature on that new format when you need it?

  109. Nightlife says:

    YES

    OFFICIAL

    CG SHUTOUT

  110. DavidDog says:

    sweet

  111. wa2k99 says:

Ron Darling was so funny was Winn swung there!!!!

    WHAT’S HE DOING?!

  112. ReyesMets says:

It’s beautiful in Philadelpia right now so this delay is not going to be long…

nice to know the game is official right now however

  113. The Slider says:

    I’m singing in the rain
    Just singing in the rain
    What a glorious feelin’
    I’m happy again
    I’m laughing at clouds
    So dark up above
    The sun’s in my heart
    And I’m ready for love
    Let the stormy clouds chase
    Everyone from the place
    Come on with the rain
I’ve a smile on my face
    I walk down the lane
    With a happy refrain
    Just singin’,
    Singin’ in the rain

  114. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Looking ahead….
If the rain stops, bets on Santana coming back out there?
    Bullpen for 4 innings?

  115. I’m loving Howie Rose opining about Vietnam on the radio right now!

  116. 911nafstem says:

Now you have to worry about blowing out the bullpen for 4 innings

    • mex84 says:

Yea, this sucks. Three run lead with Santana is golden, but if they march Muniz out there, look out!

  117. Bobby Bo says:

Ramon Castro needs to be our everyday catcher!!! WE NEED MORE RUNS CUZ WE DONT WANT WAGNER COMIN IN!!!!

  118. The Slider says:

Time to go walk the dog. See y’all in a bit.

  119. Jefferies 9 says:

These guys talking baseball is soooo much better than watching one of the 4 episodes of Beer Money

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Gotta give ‘em credit. They don’t have a ballgame in front of them to call, have to just keep talking and sound intelligent at the same time.
I much prefer them though then cutting to some other SNY programming….

  120. 911nafstem says:

Is it just me, or do the Phillies play 162 home games a year?

  121. kd bart says:

Randy Winn. Not exactly baseball smart.

  122. Nightlife says:

I love you Gary, Ron and Keith, but I get it, pitchers don’t go as long today.

  123. metsthebest says:

Well this just goes to show you guys, that the Mets have changed, they are a very different team than when Willie Randolph was here. The diffrence between Willie and Manuel, is that he gets into his players faces and tells them the truth. Manuel let’s the players who play well, play and won’t take any BS. Manuel argues with the umpires alot more than Randolph. In like 20 something games he’s already been more times than Randolph. That kind of effort by a manager is what gets teams pumped up and always ready to play, their best.

    • There's Always '09 says:

…and gives the stadium some life. The attitude at the ballpark is very different. No disrespect to willie.

  124. Hellbelly says:

I live in Boston and watch (virtually) every game on MLB Extra Innings which means I have to watch a lot of out-of-NY announcers do Mets games.

I hope we all realize how great it is that we have Ronnie, Keith and Gary announcing.

I’m sitting here listening to them discuss pitching mechanics during the rain delay and I have no desire to switch channels.

They are such a treat to listen to.

    • kd bart says:

      It’s a pleasure.

      • There's Always '09 says:

right on, bro. I listen to sterling and Waksman every now and then. They are as brutal as Michael Kaye. Imagine those three having this convo.

        • khmustache says:

i honestly cannot listen to anybody else call a game (except eucker and scully)

        • There's Always '09 says:

I have xm in my car. The royals announcers are…. um, Midwestern sounding. That has to be a tough job.

  125. There's Always '09 says:

anyone notice delgado trimmed the goatee? Plus he threw in some “Great Looking Gray”. I think Keith should tell him “Your beard is weird. Your stache is trash”.

    • Hellbelly says:

……..but his swing is (recently, at least) king!

      • There's Always '09 says:

haha. Definitely coming around. Doesnt just feel like a hot streak either. The guy has been booed out of the bldg all season. Very happy for him……and for me too :-)

  126. Nightlife says:

    Well, that was quick.

    • There's Always '09 says:

      not a minute too soon.

Off topic, but did everyone do their homework tonight?

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

        Homework complete here.

        • There's Always '09 says:

that’s no good. That’s only 100 votes between us. 50x each. Corey farkin Hart can’t win this. Nice player? Yes. All Star? Maybe in Williamsport

  127. CitizenSnips says:

Did they just put the tarp back on or am I unfamiliar with rain delay practices?

  128. oklametsfan says:

Santana coming out anyway. was that even 30 minutes?

    • There's Always '09 says:

he is out of the game?

Fyi everyone, it is tough to post from an iPhone (although my spell check automatically made the lowercase “i” and capital “p”). Nice touch there, apple.

      • SantanaCYYOung says:

        heilman warming up

      • oklametsfan says:

        thats what the guys said.

      • ginsengbomb says:

Translation: FYI everyone, I have an iPhone.

        (sorry, I had to ;)

        • khmustache says:

anyone ever notice that bentleys stick in 2nd gear?

        • There's Always '09 says:

haha. No, just excusing myself for any expected typos, etc. Way past the stage of bragging that I have an iPhone. Not really a status symbol. Its not even that great. Although I can sit at home in my fuzzy bunny slippers and blog. Oh, and I can do it at the bar too.

Anyone notice santana grimacing after his last pitch? I saw a replay of his last out.

  129. NCMetsGuy says:

I just don’t get how our ace has to come out after a 30 minute rain delay in the 5th inning.

    • ginsengbomb says:

I’m sure it’s because he’s a wuss and not because of some pragmatic, effectiveness-related reason

      • NCMetsGuy says:

I never said it was. I SAID it did not understand. Easy.
Like I also do not understand why you need to bunt Reyes to 2nd.

        • ginsengbomb says:

You’re right, my bad — my knee-jerk Santana defensiveness kicking in there. Sorry man!

      • 911nafstem says:

Pragmatic and effective like wasting 4 innings worth of bullpen?

        • ginsengbomb says:

Pragmatic and effective like not injuring himself in the process of giving up a bunch of runs with his now stiff arm. The pen sometimes has to eat up 4 innings. There was a rain delay. This stuff happens. I’d rather “waste” 4 innings of relief from guys with warm arms than blindly test my luck with a guy whose arm is now stiff.

    • Dafatone80 says:

I’m not going to question the move.

Santana’s arm could be stiffening up. Hard to make a judgment without being in the dugout.

  130. robmenna says:

Everyone should have voted for D Wright 50 times during that delay.

  131. SantanaCYYOung says:

i’m kind of torn about santana coming back in, on the one hand i think he should cause it hasn’t been a long delay and its only the 6th. but on the other hand we do need him for the long haul and don’t want anything to happen to him for the sake of 2 more innings

  132. 911nafstem says:

Santana should be in, this blows out the bullpen, this crap drives me crazy

  133. Bobby Bones in SC says:

I want to believe in Heilman, but my sense of calm, while enjoying a cold beer, has totally disappeared.

I would certainly feel better with several more runs.

  134. SantanaCYYOung says:

come on carlos, big hit here

  135. The Slider says:

    Is Santana coming back out?

  136. NCMetsGuy says:

As I said earlier, I never agree with bunting Reyes to 2nd. He should be able to get there on his own. Try a hit and run or let Endy hit and if he does not get it then you steal with Wright up or you steal early . Whatever, you just do not need to waste an out to get Reyes to 2nd.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

      agree 100%

    • ginsengbomb says:

I absolutely agree. Maybe not “never,” with Reyes, but almost always.

      • NCMetsGuy says:

Only way I could see it is against a LHP with an incredible move and a high SO guy AB. That does not happen much with the Mets because who ever bats 2nd is usually a contact hitter.

  137. 911nafstem says:

Gary said it, unless he’s actually hurt or Manuel is adamant about taking him out, this is weak on Santana’s part

  138. The Slider says:

Even Gary Cohen knows that the only excuse for Santana not being in the game is that he is hurt. Otherwise, he’s a pussy and Manuel is a moron.

    • 911nafstem says:

I was going to use the P word but I’m too lazy to create another screenname

      • The Slider says:

You mean “that” gets you (I mean “me”) banned? Pussy is short for “pusillanimous.” There’s nothing wrong with that word.

    • ginsengbomb says:

I don’t see how anybody can blame anyone, there’s a thousand possible reasons he’s out, and we are privy to precisely none of them.

      • The Slider says:

I can think of only three:

        1. Manuel pulled because he’s so stupid;

        2. Santana pulled himself out because of his pusillanimous character; or

        3. Santana is hurt.

  139. SantanaCYYOung says:

Is there any possibility we can get Sizemore from Cleveland?

    • Wright88 says:

      Where would you play him?

      • TKFJ says:

People have to have more reasonable expectations, we are NOT getting Sizemore.

      • SantanaCYYOung says:

left field, i know he’s a center fielder, but he would be perfect at the 2nd spot in the order, although i know cleveland would demand a queen’s ransom for him

        • Wright88 says:

I don’t like the idea of having two really good CF play in the same OF, the whole Cameron thing scared me. Endy is the exception. Besides we would never have enough to get him, he’s like the Wright/Reyes of Cleveland.

      • There's Always '09 says:

I think you can find a spot for him. I would try a three way deal. Possibly getting Milwaukee to ship them sabathia.

    • 911nafstem says:

I’d love to hear your offer on that one

      • SantanaCYYOung says:

        F-Mart, Muniz, and Niese

        • TKFJ says:

Yes, deplete our already weak farm-system. You see there is this thing called developing our own players, we should start doing it.

        • 911nafstem says:

They’d hang up before you’d finish your sentence

        • SantanaCYYOung says:

Listen I know its extremely unilkely it’ll happen, but its not like Sizemore is a mid-30s guy at the end of his career. he would add to our young core of position players.

        • ReyesMets says:

EXACTLY. And he’s cheap and amazing. That is precisely why he is one of the mive MOST VALUABLE ASSETS in all of Major League.

There is NO WAY (repeat: NONE, ZERO, ZILCH) that the Mets (or anybody else) could acquire him

      • ReyesMets says:

LOL @ getting Sizemore from Cleveland.

Maybe Muniz, Easley, and Schneider is a package they would go for?

    • NCMetsGuy says:

LOL, for who? Santana and cash?

  140. Wright88 says:

I don’t see how you can blame Santana, Manuel has the final say.

    • The Slider says:

Manuel is a moron. The Mets are winning despite him; not because of him. That’s for sure.

      • NCMetsGuy says:

Willie Slider Randolph at your service.

        • The Slider says:

Did you see Friday night’s game against Philly? I rest my case again. Do us all a favor and try and respond without taking pot shots.

          Squeeeeeeel, hick boy.

        • NCMetsGuy says:

          How’s it going pac_man?

      • the Straw says:

your a M*ron. If you can not tell that Manuel has made a huge difference with this team, you just dont get it.

        • The Slider says:

No, you’re right. I only played organized and college baseball and then played up through and over 30 league with ex-major and minor leaguers while being managed by a former MLB pitcher for the Phillies.

So, please explain to me how Manuel is so much better than Randolph. I can’t wait.

        • the Straw says:

Wow that is one impressive resume…i once played basketball against TIm Perry who was part of the sixers/suns trade for charles barkley….so that must make me a basketball legend…..

How about bringing a laid back, fun-loving approach to managing. How about doing the small things to turn this bunch of individuals into a team. How about playing the hot hand no matter who it is….should i go on?

        • NCMetsGuy says:

So, I am the former prime minister of England and I moved to Charlotte because it is named after my former Queen.
          LOL.

        • the Straw says:

          There you go….that beats everyone.

      • ginsengbomb says:

Right, his “play the hot hitter” approach has been doing horribly of late.

        [sarcasm]

      • The Slider says:

Look back at friday night’s game against Philly. I rest my case.

        • 911nafstem says:

Something tells me Santana wasn’t exactly pleading his case to stay in

        • TKFJ says:

Willie is that you? I can’t believe you would rather have Willie managing. I’m not even going to begin an argument with you, because it doesnt look like you posess much logic.

        • the Straw says:

Rest your case???how about the next 4.5 games since last friday….are you kidding me….this doesnt even look like the same team we saw for the last three months.

Get off of it. You obv had a man crush on willie and will never accept jerry. even if he takes us to the playoffs, you will say its despite jerry.

        • 911nafstem says:

Yeah, if you’d still rather have Willie at this point I don’t know what you’re watching

        • fongulalou says:

          True Dat!!–Manuel,Int. Mgr. & Santana 100Mil Ace
Pitcher But Jerry has final say?!?–Ooookay!?!

        • The Slider says:

The team was turning it around when Willie was fired. Manuel can’t manage his way out of paper bag. Listen to him talk. He’s a dope. “Gangstas on the field. . .” Ha, give me a break.

The Latinos are playing now because Willie is gone. We can thank Bernazard for burning the bridge between Willie and them.

Try and rub a couple of brain cells together. Maybe you can make baby brain cells.

        • TKFJ says:

You, sir are beyond help. Please don’t lecture us any futher, I am getting a headache from your obsurd psycho-babble.

        • 911nafstem says:

As long as the Mets are winning, who cares? It’s over, let it go, frankly, I think the Mets had every right to fire Willie. His performance over his last 160 games spoke for itself, whatever the dirty politics going on in the front office.

        • ginsengbomb says:

Ah, okay, so it’s less about whether Manuel’s Mets win than it is about what Manuel says to the media.

Or it’s because Manuel’s last name is hispanic, and it’s all Bernazard’s fault.

          Who’s a dope, again?

        • ginsengbomb says:

I’m not even that big a Willie or Manuel fan — I honestly could scarcely care less.

But saying that the Mets are winning despite Manuel’s “gangsta’s” comments AND because of his last name is not only self-contradicting, it’s asinine.

  141. There's Always '09 says:

I feel like I’m playing a video game and I traded the MLB 2k8 version of heilman for the 2k6 version

  142. cousinrk says:

Its still a little strange taking Santana out at this point. Especially since this is his last start before the All star break. So he’s not pitching again till next thursday. I guess Jerry would rather be extra cautious, but it was a 42 minute delay and about a 10 minute Bottom of the 5th, so I can’t imagine 52 minutes is anything to worry about. But if you are goinjg to do it, this little league lineup is the one to do it against

    • Wright88 says:

Maybe he can start the last day before the all star break, since he didn’t throw many pitches.

      • There's Always '09 says:

I was thinking the same, but pelf is in a groove. A long layoff may hurt

      • 911nafstem says:

It’s bad enough that the bullpen will be overworked, but if the Mets ever blew this game, Santana is going to get some heat in the press

      • the Straw says:

Not going to happen. Pelfrey gets sunday night. you dont skip your hottest pitcher.

        • The Slider says:

Pelfrey’s hotter than Santana? What about Perez’s last three starts?

        • the Straw says:

are you serious….take a look at pelfreys last 7 starts…he has been virtually unhittable. you really are not a fan of this team are you.

        • The Slider says:

You’re right. I’m not a fan. You’re so astute. You must be a lawyer.

        • ginsengbomb says:

Not to be a lawyer here, but:

“Pelfrey’s hotter than Santana? What about Perez’s last three starts?”

What does that even mean? Pelfrey’s not hotter than Santana, just look at Perez’s last three starts? What?

        • the Straw says:

what does a lawyer have to do with being astute?

let me give you some help:
In the past 30 days Pelfrey is 5 and 0 with a 2.79 ERA.

          Does that work for you?

        • The Slider says:

Did you graduate 3rd grade. Follow the bouncing ball.

          Pel-frey is hot-ter than Santana?

          and

What about Perez’s last three starts?

Do you get it now lame brain?

        • The Slider says:

It’s a start. But if you’re trying to tell me that in a must win game tomorrow you’re picking Pelfrey over Santana or Perez or Maine … well, then I can understand why you must think Manuel is a better manager than Willie.

        • the Straw says:

First of all, nothing scare me more than Perez and must win in the same sentence. Secondly, Perez will be pitching Friday, so its who cares.

And its not a matter of pitching Johan over Pelfrey for one game, its a matter of pitching johan on short-rest in order to skip Pelfrey, who has been fantastic over the past 7 starts. Do you not think that could rattle the young kids confidence a little?

And if you have any sense at all, you would realize that the reason Pelfrey is pitching so well right now if bc he finally has confidence in himself. So yeah skip him, that will work wonders for his confidence.

        • The Slider says:

Did I say anything about skipping Pelfrey to pitch Santana?

As for Perez, who have his last two starts, which were both gems, against? The Yankees and the Phillies? Two of the best hitting teams in baseball. Both of them were BIG games – and the Philly game could be described as crucial.

So, you don’t think Perez is a big game pitcher?

Pelfrey shuts down the Giants – the worst hitting team in the NL – and your creaming in you pants.

        • The Slider says:

Hey Straw. I think you should stop using your straw, if you know what I mean?

        • the Straw says:

Dude if Santana pitches Sunday, you would be skipping pelfrey. why is that so hard for you to understand??

And for Perez, he can be an ace one day and a total bum the next. He is always good against the Yanks and Phillies and Braves. Thats why its great to have him. But he also can be terrible against many weak teams. You never know what your going to get with him. He may be a “big game” pitcher, but he is too inconsistent.

I would totally call Maine a better and more of a “big game” pitcher than Ollie.

        • the Straw says:

and no i have no idea what “stop using your straw” means.

    • ginsengbomb says:

      I absolutely agree.

Additionally, we should consider that a 42 minute delay ices a pitcher’s arm. Beyond injury risk, that potentially depletes a pitcher’s effectiveness. Bullpen pitchers have been tuned to be able to warm up on very little notice. SP’s are much more drastically impacted by a long delay. I think Manuel’s playing more to win this game than to avoid injury risk, although the latter probably plays into it as well.

      • njmetfan11 says:

Yes, but we have seen many pitchers go out and pitch after a 40 minute delay. Again, it’s not a big deal as long as Santana is fine and the Mets win this game. I would like to see Heilman pitch atleast a couple of effective innings if he can.

        • ginsengbomb says:

Oh, you’re absolutely right. I’m just assuming there was some conversation during which it was determined that during this particular delay his arm just lost it. It’s an assumption, just like every other assumption on here, so there’s no reason to think I’m right.

But yeah… give me some good Heilman!

  143. MetsFan4Decades says:

Wow – who is that guy wearing #21? Use to by Delgado.

    Go Carlos!

  144. Bobby Bones in SC says:

I’m not making excuses for Santana or Manuel, but just a little something to think about…

Santana has thrown almost 80 pitches. How many more would we get 20-30 max. When he finished the top of the fifth it was pouring down something fierce. When you get that wet, you get cold. That is not good for any pitcher. Cooling down quickly and getting cold after already having thrown that many pitches normally spells finished for pitchers.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

i just think it shouldn’t be risked for two innings. hopefully the mets can score some more runs and put this game out of reach

    • 911nafstem says:

I just think that we’re getting to the point now where the babying of these pitchers is getting to ridiculous proportions

      • SantanaCYYOung says:

911 you’re right, but the problem is that you’re really babying 6 years and $135 million

        • 911nafstem says:

But if you’re compromising wins and losses, it just seems counterproductive, it’s not like he threw 100 pitches and it was a 2 hour delay.

        • SantanaCYYOung says:

who knows, maybe this is why he’s such a great second half pitcher, cause he keeps enough in the tank. i.e. its a marathon not a sprint.

      • Bobby Bones in SC says:

I do agree that we baby them too much.

However, a pitcher cooling down and soaking wet is not they way you want to handle your big buck ace. It may sound crazy, but Santana being healthy for the second half is just more important than this game. At least for me.

Back on your point though…If there had been no rain, I would have loved to have seen Santana pitch 125 and have thrown a complete game shutout.

  145. MetsFan4Decades says:

I have no problem with the decision for Santana not coming back in.
Each game, pitcher, situation is different. There is no set rule concerning rain delays.
And I say I have no problem with the caveat that the BP better get it done.

  146. teufelshuffle86 says:

Gary: “The Mets have still not allowed a run in this series.” Here we go.

  147. SantanaCYYOung says:

is heilman throwing more breaking balls or is it just me?

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

He also just hit 94 on the gun. Not too shabby.

      • Bobby Bones in SC says:

I saw that to just a few minutes ago and thought it had to have been a fluke. I think Aaron knows how important it is not to let Santana down. If he does the team and the fans may look for him in the parking lot.

  148. Dafatone80 says:

As I said before, none of us know how Johan’s arm is feeling.

The rain and the break might’ve cooled him off. If he seriously doesn’t feel up to coming back out, I wouldn’t force him.

  149. 911nafstem says:

One of these days Heilman is going to leave the Mets and win 15 games as a starter

  150. njmetfan11 says:

Good effory by Heilman. Score one more run so that this doesn’t have to be a save situation

  151. SantanaCYYOung says:

i love this “umpires don’t see in hd” commercial

  152. njmetfan11 says:

I would rather see Anderson batting, get him some at-bats to raise his confidence.

  153. Nightlife says:

Glad I went away for awhile to miss the predictable Santana gripe-fest.

    Good job by Heilman.

While I probably would have liked Santana back, the Giants are a good team to let your bullpen regain a little confidence after the Philly debacles.

    JOSE!

    • Nightlife says:

Whoops, I wasn’t paying attention and didn’t realize it wasn’t Jose, but the other Reyes.

    • njmetfan11 says:

Good point about the bullpen regaining confidence, but again if something went wrong this would have been a terrible game. Still can be, don’t want to jinx anything.

  154. ReyesMets says:

We CAN NOT have Reyes bunt here. Come on!

  155. teufelshuffle86 says:

I like the bunt call here.

    • ReyesMets says:

How can you possibly like the bunt there?

For one thing, bunting is almost NEVER the right move in any circumstance.

Second, Reyes is one of the 2 or 3 best hitters on the team. Good hitters should NEVER be sacrificing. NEVER. EVER. EVER

  156. njmetfan11 says:

    Horrible at-bat by Reyes.

  157. appleinahat says:

I dont get the game, did johan come out cause his pitch count was high, or cause of the rain delay?

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

      Delay.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Didn’t come back in after the 42 minute rain delay. Hence the controversy.

    • Nightlife says:

Dunno, but the pen has bridged it to the 8th, so it doesn’t seem so bad now.

Philly update: St. Louis has men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out in the 7th.

  158. SantanaCYYOung says:

endy will get a big hit here, watch

  159. njmetfan11 says:

Hate to mention it, but J.A. Happ is throwing a 3 hit shoutot. Come on St. Louie, score some runs for Keith and us Met fans!

  160. NCMetsGuy says:

Reyes never does well on the “sacrifice” bunt. He should have been swinging. It’s not like there could have been a logical DP.

  161. Bobby Bones in SC says:

It has gone both ways, so I can’t complain, but this ump definitely gives some lllooooowwww strikes.

  162. njmetfan11 says:

All right David, earn that All-Star spot. Come on man.

  163. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Should be 3-0

  164. SantanaCYYOung says:

    double steal here?

  165. 911nafstem says:

Does anyone actually have the counts for the vote?

  166. 911nafstem says:

    Cards making a move

  167. teufelshuffle86 says:

    oops

  168. TKFJ says:

    Typical.

  169. Bobby Bones in SC says:

Not good execution right there by Wright. Hope that doesn’t come back.

  170. Nightlife says:

    Easiely slam????

  171. njmetfan11 says:

Ah, come on that was our chance to score big runs.

  172. wa2k99 says:

    OK, let’s go Duaner.

  173. njmetfan11 says:

2nd and 3rd, 1 out for the cards.

  174. SantanaCYYOung says:

bases loaded, one out pujols up

  175. cousinrk says:

Bases loaded 1 out for Pujols in the 7th for the Cards

  176. wa2k99 says:

Pujols up bases loaded one out Durbin pitching seventh inning

  177. ReyesMets says:

Bases loaded for Pujols, one out!

  178. njmetfan11 says:

Bases loaded for Pujols with 1 out down 2 to the Phils!

  179. 911nafstem says:

Bases loaded, 1 out, Pujols up

  180. teufelshuffle86 says:

He hung one there but Easley a little out in front.

  181. Nightlife says:

I’d love for them to tack on, but I can’t say I would be mad if we see a smooth 6 outs to end the game by the bullpen.

  182. wa2k99 says:

Sac fly 2-1, come on Glaus, kill Philly now

  183. The Slider says:

Bob Gibson. Now, there was “a Man.”

  184. teufelshuffle86 says:

Man, Argenis Reyes is a strange looking fellow.

    • The Slider says:

But I think he’s a keeper. He plays real hard. And he looks like he has a quick bat. I just don’t know if he can put that quick bat on the ball enough.

    • khmustache says:

couldn’t agree more…he looks like a scary leperchaun

  185. ReyesMets says:

Not even Wagner is capable of blowing this game against this line-up, right?

  186. SantanaCYYOung says:

    great inning by duaner

  187. Bobby Bones in SC says:

Duaner made that look easy. Send him out for another.

  188. SantanaCYYOung says:

    tied!

  189. wa2k99 says:

    TIE GAME!! GLAUS!!!

  190. Nightlife says:

    Great job Duaner.

    Cards and Phils Tied!!!

  191. ReyesMets says:

    Glaus! Tie game!

    Gotta love the Phils pen

    • the Straw says:

gotta love the phils pitching staff. after Hamels there are no starting pitchers on that team that i would want.

  192. cousinrk says:

    There ya go Cardinals

  193. njmetfan11 says:

Tie game in Philly!! 2nd and 3rd, 2 out for Ankiel I think but not sure.

    • The Slider says:

Yesss! I hope the Cards pull it out. I’d love nothing more that to walk into my office full of Phillies fans and ask them how many games they were up on us now.

  194. DavidDog says:

    GO cards!

  195. metsthebest says:

Cardinals tied the game against the Phillies with runners in 2nd and 3rd..

  196. wa2k99 says:

I’d like to think it’s all because our pitching is this good, but it has a lot to do with the inept Giant offense

  197. MetsFan4Decades says:

Have to tell you…..I took a look at some of the Phillies blog sites last night as they were losing their game. Fans were not liking life at all but they don’t sound anywhere near the ‘jumping off the ledge’ point we were all at a month ago.

Just goes to tell you we NY Met fans take our baseball very, very seriously…. – lol!

And some of those fans were giving kudos to our pitching and sounding very, very afraid….

  198. The Slider says:

    Carlos Del-bato.

  199. MetsFan4Decades says:

I still want to know who this player is wearing #21 lately – lol!

  200. njmetfan11 says:

Keep on hittin’ Carlos. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but come on everybody, follow Delgado’s lead.

  201. Bobby Bones in SC says:

Delgado is starting to see the ball very well. That spells very, very good for us Mets fans.

  202. Nightlife says:

Man, I sure hope this is the Delgado we get the rest of the year.

  203. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Delgado is en fuego!!!

  204. cousinrk says:

I don’t know where you were reading, but after the mets took the third game, I read alot of posts from bridge jumpers. I even saw a lot of shots taken at the great Jimmy rollins and Ryan Howard

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I think it was predominately beerleaguer??
I saw some bridge jumpers too and some very mad fans wanting to trade Rollins – saying last year was a fluke but for the most part, were pretty tame. Or at least that was my take.

    • ginsengbomb says:

Yeah, but they honestly weren’t as bad as we were a month ago. A month ago it felt like most were giving the Mets a 0.2% chance of winning anything. The Phils “bridge jumpers” had more of a “we are playing really poorly and this is what’s wrong with our team” tone, not a “THE SEASON IS OVER LET’S GO HOME :(” tone.

  205. VelvetFoot says:

    Maybe Carlo got some contacts.

  206. wa2k99 says:

Joe Mather battling for the Cards.

  207. njmetfan11 says:

Well, at least we scored more than 2 runs in Santana’s start today.

  208. 911nafstem says:

    damn

  209. DavidDog says:

the idiot 4 the cards swung at ball 4 (with bases loaded) about 3 times…

  210. SantanaCYYOung says:

    yes!, reyes

  211. 911nafstem says:

    No Wagner!

  212. ReyesMets says:

    Alright Reyes!

  213. njmetfan11 says:

Dude, A. Reyes, I’m sorry for saying we should hit Anderson instead of you. My B bro.

  214. The Slider says:

    Reyes!

    A Keeper!

  215. Nightlife says:

    Rock on, gentleman.

  216. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Reyes, Jr !! Very nice…..

  217. wa2k99 says:

If it stays 4-0, who pitches the 9th?

  218. zen says:

nl west=worst division ever. no team over .500

every other divison has at least 3 team over .500

    • MetsFan1989 says:

west is always like that. hahah diamond backs destoryed early…. w/o their hot april they r ten games under 500 i bet

  219. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Yay, no save situation!!!!!!

  220. 911nafstem says:

Thank god the Phillies have cheap ball-less ownership

  221. Bobby Bones in SC says:

There you go, put the Gary jinx on him. Jose is going to rope one now.

  222. wa2k99 says:

I really want to gain on someone in the division tonight!

  223. cousinrk says:

Argenis, Argenis Argenis Argenis, doesn’t have the same ring too it as Jose Jose Jose Jose

  224. zen says:

    reyes drives in reyes

  225. 911nafstem says:

    Kazaam!

  226. SantanaCYYOung says:

    reyes X2

  227. njmetfan11 says:

    YES!!! No Billy Time!

  228. ReyesMets says:

    Reyes and Reyes!

  229. SantanaCYYOung says:

    muniz should be up

  230. VelvetFoot says:

    JOSE!

  231. wa2k99 says:

Reyes drives in Reyes! If only the pitcher was Jo-Jo Reyes….

  232. Nightlife says:

Man, this is, like, a team I can actually enjoy watching now.

  233. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Woo-Hoo – Jose, Jose-Jose-Jose !!

  234. wa2k99 says:

I’d bring in Muniz as well.

  235. the Straw says:

Big tack on 2 out Runs. this is so not the team we had seen the first three months of the season.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Honestly – if we’re gonna play .500 or below for several months, I’d rather it be the first half of the season and come back strong for the second half – then that disaster that was last year (which was the exact opposite).

  236. 911nafstem says:

Forget Wright, Reyes should be in the all-star game

  237. SantanaCYYOung says:

all of the runs scored today have been with two outs!!!!

  238. wa2k99 says:

Whoa. Utley almost hit it out. Eighth inning

  239. teufelshuffle86 says:

The “Reyes to Reyes” line is going to get old real fast.

  240. njmetfan11 says:

Ok, the Phils have to lose.

  241. Bobby Bones in SC says:

“Oh Yabu, I think you are THROUGH HOO”

  242. Dr. Cox says:

Pujols up with one out and the bases loaded. Durbin pitching for the Phillies.

  243. wa2k99 says:

Hey Mad Dog, is there anybody ALIVE out there tonight?

  244. grotesmask says:

What year was the slogan throughout the subway, “The Magic is Back! (?)

    Dudes, it is!!

  245. The Slider says:

    Yabu Dabu Du

  246. NCMetsGuy says:

Utley with a shallow pop fly to the warning track /infield dirt.

  247. wa2k99 says:

Offense tonight has relayed on Castro and Delgado 3-4-5 are hitless tonight

  248. Dr. Cox says:

    Five more hits guys…

  249. teufelshuffle86 says:

Wright watches more balls go right down the pipe than anyone else I’ve ever seen.

  250. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Uh….everyone hits tonight except Wright?

  251. wa2k99 says:

    Smith in ok fair enough

  252. 911nafstem says:

5 game winning streaks were barred during Willie’s reign, along with facial hair

    • NCMetsGuy says:

Already had one this season in April.

    • gomets6091 says:

so Willie wasn’t the manager in 2006? Strange…

      • NCMetsGuy says:

Not even the point, I don’t think we had many then. We HAD one in April against the Nats and Phillies.

    • John The Mets Fan says:

I remember a 7 game winning streak in April 2006, and an 8 game streak in June that year, including a 3 game sweep of the Phillies. And who could forget the 6 game winning streak the first two weeks of Willie’s tenure as manager (after the opening 5 game losing streak of course)…..

Or maybe you just werent a “fan” as far back as 2006?……..

  253. NCMetsGuy says:

I think Wright could have tagged 1st there. LOL.

  254. MetsFan4Decades says:

Might Joe Smith !! Great game, guys.
Santana is in the clubhouse shaking his head, saying ‘FINALLY’ !

    Put it in the books!

  255. ReyesMets says:

    Put it in the books!

    Lovin it…

  256. khmustache says:

    done and done…nice game everyone

  257. njmetfan11 says:

Put it in the books!!! Okay, that’s getting old, I’ll work on something new. PEACE!

  258. wa2k99 says:

    5 in a row!

  259. teufelshuffle86 says:

And just like that Howard homers in the 8th.

  260. NCMetsGuy says:

    Howard HR.

  261. oklametsfan says:

    good win guys.

howard just went deep. 3-2 phils.

  262. wa2k99 says:

    Howard goes yard 3-2

  263. Nightlife says:

    Another good game.

Who gives a crap if Ryan Howard just homered.

    • oklametsfan says:

see, if the Phils lose we’ll be within half a game…………..

i think we were just passing along info to the people unable to watch the Phils game

      • Nightlife says:

I realize that, but I just want the Mets to play well again. You don’t scoreboard watch in July…

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

Sure you do. Don’t think for one NY minute the Phillies fans aren’t doing the same thing…..

        • oklametsfan says:

then dont. I’m watching the actual game. goodnight

        • NCMetsGuy says:

While true, it is early, it would be a huge blow mentally to the Phillies if after all of this we were in the lead at the ASB.

        • Nightlife says:

Yeah, I have the game on ESPN as well. I just don’t see the point in getting too caught up in what the Phillies are doing at this point as long as the Mets are taking care of business.

        • NCMetsGuy says:

Again, it’s not like the Phillies are just going to go away. Any advantage mentally is big. Plus, how many games did we lose the division by last season? You always want your rival to play poorly and root against them.

        • oklametsfan says:

          when in Rome…..

  264. kbh218 says:

Wow, the Mets are good again. Who would have thunk it?

    • kbh218 says:

Hopefully I didn’t just pull a Gary Cohen.

      • njmetfan11 says:

Anyone notice that just when Gary started to talk about the Mets picking up games against the Phils, Howard hits a homer moments later. Why Gary, why?

        • kbh218 says:

He’s good like that. He mentioned that Jenkins was 2 for his last 40 before he hit that bomb off Heilman on Monday night. The guy should keep his obscure stats to himself.

    • fongulalou says:

Amazing what a genius Manuel is for “taking” santana
out ’cause th e pen did iits job.

  265. MainStMets23 says:

howard bomb puts phils up 3-2

  266. metinDC23 says:

Wow. The Mets finally have a starter over .300- Jose is now at .301!

  267. gomets6091 says:

Man, who knew following this team could actually be…enjoyable? Been quite a while since I could say that.

By the, I’m currently watching the baseball channel on mlb.tv mosaic, it’s Game 7 of the 1952 World Series between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Yankees…it’s completely awesome (except that I know the Yankees win, but I don’t really hate the pre-’62 Yankees, so it doesn’t really matter)

  268. wa2k99 says:

    gone again 4-2

  269. SantanaCYYOung says:

i can’t believe that hr by feliz, he was lunging for it

  270. Feliz just Homered

  271. oklametsfan says:

    Lidge-Pujols in the 9th (due 3rd)

  272. SantanaCYYOung says:

if lidge blows this lead (which would be his first) it would demoralize the phills

  273. tengobotas says:

5 runs and the 3-4-5 spots went 0-4

    crazy

  274. gomets6091 says:

pretty sure Pujols comes up next inning for the Cards, would LOVE to see him go yard on Lidge…it’d be like when war veterans get flashbacks when they hear explosions. Lidge would be toast for the rest of the season.

  275. MetsFan4Decades says:

Anyone else besides me find it strange that the Marlins are right in there too, neck ‘n neck, and we don’t even think about them?
Must be b/c the Phillies beat us out by that one game last year….

    • gomets6091 says:

      a) Phillies beat us in September, so they are fresh in our minds
      b) Philadelphia’s a hell of a lot closer than Miami
      c) Very few people think the Marlins have staying power…they remind me of the 2005 Nats, who were in first place at the all-star break and completely faded in the second half.

  276. wa2k99 says:

    Shumacher on.

  277. wa2k99 says:

Ankiel needs to deliver, just like against the Cubs

  278. gomets6091 says:

    come on Big Albert…

  279. wa2k99 says:

    Come on Anikel!!!

  280. oklametsfan says:

    come on ankiel….

  281. dykstraw II says:

phils win. whatev. we gain ground on the cards.b

  282. HOFMets57 says:
