I voted for Wright 20 times during the day. 30 times last evening.

    • ninohernes says:

Since Monday, I have voted close to 300 times.

      Vote Davie in!!

He REALLY wants it, so lets give it to him!

      • 7train says:

        Thats what I’m sayin Ninohernes.

I’ve had the vote link minimized on my desktop at work and I just hit it up and vote through out the day for the last three days.

        VOTE WRIGHT!!!!!!!!

        • ninohernes says:

I have said this before here and I am going to say it yet again. Some of you already know whats coming…

Dave is a very talented and smart player. He is dedicated and passionate about the game. Dave is young and I think that he has an incredible career ahead of him. I can easily see him in the hall of fame someday. His team spirit, enthusiasm and dedication is very admirable. It is refreshing to see a player like Dave. I respect Dave very much, and being so close in age to him, I find inspiration in his approach to the game. He is one of my Hero’s. Although I have no desire to be an athlete, the way he utilizes his talent and approaches his work is something that I admire very much and that inspires me to do the same in my work. If I could meet any celebrity (and I have met a few in my line of work) it would be David Wright. It would be an honor to shake his hand.

LETS GO DAVE! LETS GO METS!

Some of you will give me crap for this post. Go ahead, bring it on…

        • 7train says:

Well said Nino, I’m right there with you.

        • jamie says:

ok, I’ll do it…do you have that text macro’d, or tattooed on your hand or something? is he paying you every time you post it? Are you his agent, or one of his brothers?

not that I disagree with you, just sayin.

        • ninohernes says:

Nope, not his brother or agent. Some people here have even thought that I am actually Dave, but Im not. Im just a fan.

        • jamie says:

          I know, I’m just teasing.

        • jimyager says:

Next to Mike Piazza, DW is the MAN!! I voted 50 times today for him at work and will vote 50 more at home. LETS GO DW!!! I think its sad that Old Larry Jones beat him out at third base :{ Lets get him on the team.

        • Nutz15 says:

Yes, very sad that “Old Hall of Fame Larry” and his .379 Batting Average were voted onto the team by the fans for his 6TH All-Star game…..talk about an underappreciated player.

Guy’s got 285 AB’s this season (62 less than Wright) and has 1 more homer — 20 less RBI’s, but that’s more of a lineup specific statistic than it is for a guy who’s hitting .317 with RISP and .406 with runners on.

Tip of the cap to Chipper Jones. Guy’s ridiculous.

That said, I hope Wright finds his way onto the team, regardless. He’s having a fine season himself.

  2. bigchart333 says:

i say dont vote him in…yeah he deserves to be there..but the TEAM needs him more than the NL does….u all saw what happened last time he had a DAY off, let him get THREE off now…

so, with that rationale, i voted for pat burrell 30 times…let him play the extra day, make the extra trips, etc…

    • Knuckles99 says:

I think it would de-motivate Wright. He looks like he wants to be in there. Throw him a bone. Manuel will find him days off.

    • tres says:

Exactly. I don’t understand why people get all worked up about there not being enough Mets in the All Star Game. I’d rather see my team be represented in the playoffs than some overrated exhibition. Seriously, who cares? I can’t believe people actually get heated over this.

    • DK says:

agreed, we must think of the bigger picture… Since Corey Hart is already leading i voted for him…

      Take the days of Wright!!!

      • Knuckles99 says:

Last year in Yankee Stadium. No travel. 3 innings. Two days off. Yet, you think voting Cory Hart? I’m confused as to who you may be loyal to.

      • 7train says:

DK I’m voting for you to move to Milwaukee. What a joke? Vote Wright genius or don’t vote at all.

        • DK says:

You will be glad to know I only voted once for Corey Hart so vote 301X for Wright next time…

You will thank me when Wright is battling Reyes and Beltran for the MVP down the stretch… lol

        • metsfan227 says:

Wasn’t he doing that last year AND he played in the ASG?

        • toomanyuniforms says:

These people are such idiots. He basically broadcast to you: “I WANT TO BE THERE.” You do not — NOT — know that he needs to “rest.” That is pure speculation, and you’re willing to damage the guy’s career to make yourselves feel “knowledgable.” Skipping the ASG does not “help the team.” You can come up with as many BS pop psychological explanations for why not going would discourage Wright.

Anyway, if he jets for the Orioles when his contract expires, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

    • metsfan227 says:

You know, this really bothers me. If you don’t want him there, alright, don’t vote. But I really don’t understand why any Mets fan would intentionally try to keep him out. Seriously, maybe one of the sabateurs could answer that question. I just can’t comprehend the idea of voting for some else just to keep him out of the game. What is the logic behind this?

It’s one thing to just not vote quite another to deliberately vote for someone else. What did DW do to you?

      • GravediggerHebner says:

I think the “logic” behind voting for someone other than Wright was to give a rest to a player who has clearly demonstrated that he responds well to one.

I’m not one of the saboteurs, (although I did consider it for the “rest” reason I ultimately simply did not vote at all), but I think skirting the rules to vote in excess of 300 times for someone is similarly ridiculous. If you can give me an argument in favor of voting 300 times for someone other than “everybody else is doing it” I will listen.

        • metsfan227 says:

First, how is anyone skirting the rules? The rules are *vote as often as you want.*

Second and again, he played in the ASG last year. He carried this team in the second half with no ASG break rest. He wants to be there. Playing for one hour on Tuesday does not mean he won’t get any rest.

Honestly, the more I think about this the more it angers me. After all he did for this team last year. The way he carried this team down the stretch. I just don’t understand why/how any fan can now try to deny him something he wants when he asks/needs our help.

It’s just really sad to me. He doesn’t deserve to be treated like this by the fans.

        • GravediggerHebner says:

metsfan227, sorry my bad on the “rules,” I recalled in past years when I voted that there was a “20 votes per valid email address” rule which apparently is not in place for this ballot. Also, during the time when I WAS (past tense) considering voting against Wright/not voting at all for perceived purpose of “rest” it was BEFORE his passionate plea for votes. Since his plea I have given him my 1 man, 1 vote. I’ll leave it the rest of you future carpal tunnel sufferers to vote ad nauseam.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

I am with Mets227. Some guy with a laptop and a plumber’s crack showing, or a twelve-year-old with headgear should not be deliberately sandbagging Wright because in their infinite wisdom, he needs rest. Wright knows what you are writing here. He knows this sentiment exists, and I guarantee you it is p*ssing him off. It’s p*ssing me off, too. You’re costing the Mets down the road if you drive a wedge between this guy and Met fans. This guy has done nothing but bust his butt for your enjoyment, and you’re going to yank the rug out from under him to make yourself feel like a rebel who knows what’s best for the team? Ridiculous and infuriating.

Moreover, I’m sure a lot of this is jealousy — jealousy and resentment that Wright is the “Golden Boy”, white, and good-looking, none of which have a whit to do with whether he should or should not be an all-star. On the field, he is on a pace to become the best Mets’ position player ever, bar none. Think about that before you put Corey Hart, who is basically Danny Heep in a hitters’ park, on the team.

      • DK says:

Guys dont kill me but think about it.. would you rather have Wright tearing it up down the stretch or going up to the plate looking all worn down.
Any extra days off we can get him is a good thing. This is all about team not personal accolades. I wish wagner would decline as well.

The goal of this team is to WIN a WS not get players to all-star game…

        • metsfan227 says:

But that doesn’t make any sense. Didn’t he play well last year after the break and he played in the ASG. One does not preclude the other as we have already seen.

        • DK says:

This is one we are not going to agree on…

Can you honestly tell me that you dont believe a few days off would be beneficial to Wright?

        • toomanyuniforms says:

If he’s pissed at the fans, no, it wouldn’t be.

  3. Andrew says:

Your link to vote Wright goes to the Newsday site, Mike.

  4. Dirtysanchez says:

I feel like i voted for wright 100 times already loll..
Anyone have any idea how far behind he is?

  5. mrose says:

i don’t get not voting for him..
he still gets Mon and Wed off….its not like he will play 9 innings..maybe he plays 3-4 depending on chipper’s health..
He has a great time hanging out and HE DOESN’T EVEN HAVE TO TRAVEL!
I say stop being selfish, he wants to go, he will still be rested and he will have more confidence for it

  6. kowalski69 says:

im glad the mets arent doing anything schticky like handing outr 20,000 mustaches’ or VOTE FOR PAT t-shirts.

let him get the rest, he needs it.

the team will be better off.

but i DO want the NL with home field advantage so we could play the rays at shea in this years world series

    • mrose says:

again…so..he can’t play 3 innings in a fun filled game and not travel? that excuse needs to go

      • One Day This Team Will Kill Me says:

He probably wouldnt even play that much, the game is in New York, any “met fan” who doesnt vote to get David into the game because of this needs to relax. Those who will go as far as to vote for Corey Hart to sabotage his chances shouldnt be allowed to call themselves met fans.

  7. Peter says:

I’m in the “get the rest” camp. I know the All-Star Game is nice, an honor, and maybe there’s a little contract bonus involved in there as well (wink, wink), but all things being equal, I’d prefer SupaDave take the time off.

Heck, go to Cabo with Jessica Simpson for all I care, just let HER do the work. Dave should take a vacation and come out swinging the second half.

    • mrose says:

no, he shouldn’t take a vacation! lol, that would be worse! Remember when Romo went on a vacation and everyone blamed his bad play on that? he should stay home and guess what…either way, make the ASG or not..he will be!! Its in NY people!

    • Knuckles99 says:

More than the 17 HRs and 70 RBIs in the first half?
He deserves it more than Corey Hart. Besides, I was all for keeping all of the Mets out of the ASG, but Wright’s numbers are ridiculous.

    • metsfan227 says:

He played well after the ASG last year so there is NO reason to be suggesting that if he plays in the ASG he won’t play well the rest of this year.

I really don’t understand where this groundswell came for the *rest* movement. He’s 25. He’s going to get all worn out from playing for an hour on Tuesday?

  8. 7train says:

Whoa whoa, if your a Mets fan and your not voting for Wright (who wants to be there) your a disgrace.

Wright’s the man, I want to help him get there.

One of you said you voted for Corey Hart, what the ???

Are you kidding, your a dork, your taking the time to vote and then your voting for the guy our star 3B is trying to pass.

Do us a favor and don’t vote if not for Wright.

Don’t give me that its my right. If your a Mets fan you vote for Wright because

    A) He is better than half the current NL all star roster.

    B) Are boy wants to b there, he said to Burkhardt last night his brothers and extended family are trying there best.

    • Knuckles99 says:

I know. I can’t believe I am in the same stands, rooting for the same team as some of these guys/gals. I do believe that some fans are completely bitter and last season’s collapse is still lingering.

Vote for Wright as pennance and dealing with your grief.

    • Peter says:

He is better and does belong there.

But, I think in terms of TEAM needs, I’d prefer a rested Wright with a chip on his shoulder for the second half.

If he didn’t make it in initially, let’s take it as a sign.

      • mrose says:

seriously, please explain to me the logic… i’m not trying to be mean here, but thinking about it myself..I seriously don’t see how he won’t be rested
he gets Monday off, he gets virtually all of Tuesday off…except maybe 3-4 innings and then gets Thursday off,

where is he not getting rest if he plays? Just please explain that to me.

        • Peter says:

My thinking is this . . . do you get more rest being off, say, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday? Or being off Tuesday and Thursday while working a half-day Wednesday?

Three days straight is a big deal. I know he’s 25, but it’s a long season. He takes a lot of resposibility for the team and puts it on his shoulders. Many felt it effected his play earlier in the season.

Granted, maybe playing in a meaningless game will be fun for him and loosen him up . . . if he gets in the game at all . . . but I’m thinking he would be better served taking three days away from any game prep at all.

Go sit and look at the water out East. Go drink too much wine and unwind. Just stay away for three days and come back rested and recharged.

          IMHO

        • metsfan227 says:

Okay, I understand your reasoning but:

          1. He played incredibly well last year after the ASG. So don’t you think he doesn’t *need* the rest? His second half was actually better than his first half so maybe playing in the ASG is actually a good thing.

          2. He wants to go. To me, this is it. As I said below, what has he ever done to the fans to not deserve our support? Why do people think they know better what is best for him?

        • Peter says:

I don’t think the “he wants to go” is all that strong an arguement. What is he supposed to say, he could use the rest? Then people would call him a wuss.

        • metsfan227 says:

Do you honestly think he is lying about it? How isn’t it a good argument? He said he wants to go. He could have said nothing. I’m not going to assume that he is lying. Did you see these interviews? He seems pretty sincere.Honestly, I think he seemed a little *hurt* yesterday that he isn’t leading the voting.

And, point number one that I made still holds true. There is no reason to belive that his playing in the ASG would negatively impact his second half.

        • jamie says:

funny, I was just thinking how you usually hear “if I get to go, it’d be an honor, but if not I’ll just relax”. I don’t think there’s a guy in baseball who doesn’t want to be on the all-star team, and I like that DW is saying so. He wants to be recognized as the best, and I have zero problem with that.

        • Peter says:

I don’t know if he’s lying, he may even be telling the truth. Either way, I think he’s being politically correct, which he tends to be, so we’ll never truly know. SupaDave always says “the right thing”.

My point is just that most, if not all athletes want to play. It’s what they do and who they are. And sometimes that gets in the way of what they and the team need, which is a healthy, rested, focused player.

      • Knuckles99 says:

Actually, I would have voted Chipper in. But Wright should go in as a fan favorite. Is he not? Is he not the best on the list?

I don’t work well with a chip on my shoulder. In fact, in the long run, it makes me hate who I work for.

      • 7train says:

Forget him not intially getting in.

        HE WANTS TO BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!

If he said “I can really use the rest” I would not vote.

But he is saying, ‘That is whole family in Virginia, the neighborhood is pulling for him’

        What else do you need.

Everybody thinks there a majpr leage manager, “Uhh Wright bring it in, lets rest, your 26, you can’t handle three innings’

        C’mon people your emabarrasing yourself.

        • metsfan227 says:

“Everybody thinks there a majpr leage manager, “Uhh Wright bring it in, lets rest, your 26, you can’t handle three innings’”

I actually love this comment. It’s funny becuase it’s true.

Some *fans* think that although he can play the first eighty-something games with only one day off that one hour on Tuesday is going to just ruin him for the rest of the year.

      • metsfan227 says:

Again, I just don’t get these *rest* and *chip on the shoulder* comments. He was in the ASG last year. What, he didn’t play well enough for everyone in the second half last year to prove that he doesn’t need the *rest* and that he can perform without a *chip on his shoulder*?

All you do by not voting for Wright is send a clear message that you don’t support our players. He wants to go. What did Wright ever do to the fans to deserve not having our support?

    • Elastic says:

      It’s “you’re” not “your”.

  9. hot stove chef says:

I’m not going to let the podunk, barely a city, Milwaukee Brewers fans, beat out the shear strength of the NY Mets. Frankly it’s embarrassing.

David Wright needs your support. He can add people, he knows the Mets fan base outweighs the Brewers fan base, it just a matter of who is more passionate.

    • 7train says:

I agree hot stove – I thought of that myself.

Mets fans we are being outdone by Milwaukee fans.

C’mon lets go, heres a chance for you to make tangible difference in getting Wright into this game.

He’ll have to travel from Manhattan to the Bronx, I do it every day its not bad (I’m in Yonkers), don’t worry he won’t be tired, he is not jogging there.

  10. mrose says:

Anyone who is in the “Get some rest” or “chip on your shoulder” camp..
Why have you not responded to anyone asking for the logic? The get some rest thing has been debunked and even the chip on the shoulder thing seems dumb…

Seriously, if you dont’ want him in, just don’t vote, if you want him in, vote for him….

  11. Knuckles99 says:

Okay, I voted at least another 20 times. Doing my part. Has any one else been voting?

No need to argue. I think most fans like Wright and have been satisfied with his output. Yes, we should rest the fans instead. I think they need a break from overthinking things.

You like him, you vote for him. Simplify.

  12. metsfaneightysix says:

I was in the give him rest camp, but since it seems he really wants to be there, I’ll vote for him. I just hope he doesn’t get a freak injury.

    • Knuckles99 says:

Me too. But you know a cab ride to a fast food joint can put you out for a year. Can’t help that stuff.

As long as he isn’t in the home run contest, I’m cool.

  13. irish_eagle says:

The ‘he needs to rest’ idea makes no sense. He’s young and it’s hardly an onerous task to play a couple of innings with days off on both sides.

The fact that he really wants to play in the All Star Game is refreshing. He deserves to be there and the fact he isn’t going to make it is (a) due to our – all of us – sulking about the team’s first half performance and (b) small cities are simply better at these mobilize the masses campaigns (remember the Mr. Met effort against some San Antonio mascot?)

I just hope it fires him up for the second half.

  14. jamie says:

I wonder if yankee fans are voting in giambi, and while they’re there, voting against wright. because that’s what I’ve been doing to giambi.

  15. Elastic says:

I don’t want Wright to go to the game from a PR promotion pity vote.

    • Knuckles99 says:

Actually, to make you feel better, his statistics warrant this bid. Vote.

    • metsfan227 says:

Alright, well how about voting for him from a *he wants to go and is asking for you to vote for him* vote. Geesh, I can’t believe Mets fans are actually having to convince other Mets fans to vote for one of their best players.

      • Elastic says:

You mean vote for him because he begs?

I won’t vote for anyone. This pity vote selection process is beneath the game.

        • Knuckles99 says:

“Hopefully, New York fans will understand how much it means to me and come out in full force.”

This does not sound like a begging plea. This sounds like a kid who actually wants to play in an ASG game.

        • metsfan227 says:

Alright then, how about voting for him because you’re supposed to be a Mets fan and he’s one of your team’s players. No, right? You would never just vote out of team loyalty and his numbers don’t matter either.

        • Knuckles99 says:

And, I understand other fans have differing opinions. But how do you not support one of your own homebred Mets? Elastic, do you heart Corey Hart? You do? You cheeky monkey.

        • jamie says:

“Alright then, how about voting for him because you’re supposed to be a Mets fan and he’s one of your team’s players”

…one of your team’s best players, and one of the best players in the league at his position

          vote wright!

  16. Flushing_is_Burning says:

Before, I wasn’t very convinced that he should be going to the all-star game – not that he doesn’t deserved to be there – but that he should be resting.

But now, the more I look that that NL starting lineup and reserves, the more I think Wright should be there. Larry?? Fukudome??

  17. LGNYM says:

I don’t buy any of the motivation stuff. I don’t think he is going to be any more or less motivated based on whether he makes the team. I can understand the rest argument, but in this case he’s not going to travel, he’ll likely only play a few innings surrounded by 2 off days and it will be a fun experience. I could understand if it was a starting pitcher we were talking about. In that case getting some work in during the All-Star game could throw off their schedule, but with a regular player thats not the case.
