I don’t know if he’s lying, he may even be telling the truth. Either way, I think he’s being politically correct, which he tends to be, so we’ll never truly know. SupaDave always says “the right thing”.

My point is just that most, if not all athletes want to play. It’s what they do and who they are. And sometimes that gets in the way of what they and the team need, which is a healthy, rested, focused player.

I don’t buy any of the motivation stuff. I don’t think he is going to be any more or less motivated based on whether he makes the team. I can understand the rest argument, but in this case he’s not going to travel, he’ll likely only play a few innings surrounded by 2 off days and it will be a fun experience. I could understand if it was a starting pitcher we were talking about. In that case getting some work in during the All-Star game could throw off their schedule, but with a regular player thats not the case.

I am with Mets227. Some guy with a laptop and a plumber’s crack showing, or a twelve-year-old with headgear should not be deliberately sandbagging Wright because in their infinite wisdom, he needs rest. Wright knows what you are writing here. He knows this sentiment exists, and I guarantee you it is p*ssing him off. It’s p*ssing me off, too. You’re costing the Mets down the road if you drive a wedge between this guy and Met fans. This guy has done nothing but bust his butt for your enjoyment, and you’re going to yank the rug out from under him to make yourself feel like a rebel who knows what’s best for the team? Ridiculous and infuriating.

Moreover, I’m sure a lot of this is jealousy — jealousy and resentment that Wright is the “Golden Boy”, white, and good-looking, none of which have a whit to do with whether he should or should not be an all-star. On the field, he is on a pace to become the best Mets’ position player ever, bar none. Think about that before you put Corey Hart, who is basically Danny Heep in a hitters’ park, on the team.

These people are such idiots. He basically broadcast to you: “I WANT TO BE THERE.” You do not — NOT — know that he needs to “rest.” That is pure speculation, and you’re willing to damage the guy’s career to make yourselves feel “knowledgable.” Skipping the ASG does not “help the team.” You can come up with as many BS pop psychological explanations for why not going would discourage Wright.

Anyway, if he jets for the Orioles when his contract expires, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Before, I wasn’t very convinced that he should be going to the all-star game – not that he doesn’t deserved to be there – but that he should be resting.

But now, the more I look that that NL starting lineup and reserves, the more I think Wright should be there. Larry?? Fukudome??

metsfan227, sorry my bad on the “rules,” I recalled in past years when I voted that there was a “20 votes per valid email address” rule which apparently is not in place for this ballot. Also, during the time when I WAS (past tense) considering voting against Wright/not voting at all for perceived purpose of “rest” it was BEFORE his passionate plea for votes. Since his plea I have given him my 1 man, 1 vote. I’ll leave it the rest of you future carpal tunnel sufferers to vote ad nauseam.
