Speaking to reporters after yesterday’s game, Mets GM Omar Minaya said Angel Pagan is making a quick recovery and will likely rejoin the team after the All-Star break.
Pagan is 2 for 5 in two rehab games this week for the GCL Mets.
By the way, Trot Nixon is eligible to return from the disabled during the All-Star break.

That’s good to hear. We need Pagan now that Alou is gone. Plus, it would be nice to have an extra guy like Trot Nixon back.
As long as we keep Kryptonite away from Shea, we should be able to rely on “superman”!
Actually, I have a feeling Krytponite will show up soon enough (I hear that Lex Luther is a Phillie fan).
Lets enjoy it until that day comes, but at the same time, I hope Omar is planning for such event and quickly.
What the hell are you talking about?
maybe tatis’ intro music (theme from superman)? they used indiana jones music for Pagan, so that’s all I could guess…
So can we put trot in AAA and wait for another injury to our outfield….
No we can can give him Evans’ spot and Pagan Aguila’s spot.
quick?
But yeah it is good to hear.
Haha, well said. Maybe quick in the sense that we heard nothing about him for so long and all of a sudden he’s nearly ready to come back.
If nothing else, I think Pagan can add some stability to the outfield. If he can play like he did before the injury he should be a solid contributor and hopefully can stay healthy for the rest of the season.
they seem to be taking it slow with Pagan now, just 5 innings in the field each day. But there are seven more days before the second half so I guess there is time to get him up to 9 inning in the field and getting enough AB’s from each side of the plate.
yesterday he had 2 AB’s against a lefty, and 1 AB against a righty. while the day before all 3 PA’s were against rightys.
Trot Nixon was on the DL???
I thought they DFA’d him.
With the way this team has been playing Tatis/Pagan/Endy surrounding Beltran seems ok to me.
I think that Pagan and Nixon will be upgrades over Aquina and Evans or Anderson so at least our bench will be stronger but we still need an additional quality rh bat for corner of /1b
Yeah, that Aquina guy is terrible. Do you mean Aguila?
I’ll take Church and Pagan and be fine with Tatis and Chavez on hte bench. That is basically how the season started + Tatis instead of Alou. Its not that huge of a dropoff.
If Church cant come back then maybe they need Bonds or Matt Holliday.
Not a huge drop off from Alou? What are you smoking..please send me stuff. If Alou plays, he puts up all star quality numbers. Tatis no where near that
did anyone else see on Sports Xchange that Ryan Church HIMSELF said he might have to shut it down for the REST of the season also??
I cant believe nothing about this was posted here
Yeah, I saw that.
…I just chose to ignore it and hoped it would go away.
I think it was posted a couple of days ago. But I’m starting to think our corners are cursed.
If, and I think it’s a big “if”, Church can come back sometime soon, I don’t mind platooning in left the rest of the year.
Or, make a move for a 2nd tier guy like Randy Winn. In other words, one where they wouldn’t have to give up F-mart or Pelfrey.
I agree If Church comes back we will be OK platooning in LF BUT odds are he won’t so do we make a move and when?
I don’t think there’s any guarentee Winn would be better than Tatis, Pagan, or Endy
I have to disagree. Winn has been an every day player, and still is an every day player. Pagan is unproven, and could just as easily come back as a .220 hitter as he did a .300 hitter to start the first month.
I love Endy – but he’s a bench / platoon player, that can’t hit lefties.
And Tatis has been great, but I just can’t trust a guy who hasn’t had a productive year since early in the decade to continue to contribute through the dog-days and into the playoffs. With Winn, you know what you’re getting.
I agree, with Winn you know what you’re getting and he won’t “cost” what Ibanez will.
Yeah you are seeing a short flash from Tatis and Endy, but over the long haul Randy Winn is a real good, professional ML player offensively and defensively. We could do ALOT worse.
At the beginning of the year, there was a lot of speculation about Juan Rivera from the Angels. I still think that’s a valid option for OF help. A deal could also include Kendry Morales, with credit being given to therealsince86….I know your out there….
If you could get the Angels to give up Rivera and Morales in the same deal I will be one happy camper.
Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Rivera, Morales, maybe Church??
Me likes.
Where’s Marlon? Seems like he is the odd man out. Maybe he doesn’t get along as much with Jerry? Is it just me? I like Tatis, but I am concerned he’ll fade. Chavez is a great guy to spell someone in the outfield but if he is in the lineup everyday the lineup will suffer. I think with Alou gone, now is the time to find an OF with a little pop, good defense, good average hitter, and good clubhouse guy. Not too many fit that bill. Bay, Nady maybe? it makes the trade deadline very interesting now.
Marlon is 7-34 since Jerry took over. he was given starts just did not produce. He started in LF on Sunday when tatis hit the game winning HR. That earned Tatis the start for Monday night and he has started ever game since then.
Marlon is the odd man out now but because of lack of production not any other reason
I think Marlon hasn’t been playing as much because he has been downright dreadful.
Plus, mpre than anyone else, Marlon is relied on to be a threat off the bench.
I hope he gets it going, because as we saw in 05 and in 07 he can be a lethal PH…he’s just made for the job.
Don’t think Pagan is the answer to our LF woes. We need someone with more pop to secure the heart of our line-up.
Hey Matt,
Just a minor correction:
Pagan is ‘3′ for 5 in the last 2 games (2 singles & 1 Double). He also has 2 SB.
Just didn’t want to short him a hit. :)
Church coming back is the key….with Church in right and Pagan, Endy, Tatis in left, we are fine.
If Church can not come back, i def think Omar will make a move, but i wouldnt be willing to mortgage the future to bring someone like Holliday in. I would be fine with Ibanez, Winn, type of guy that will not cost a Pelfrey, Maine, F-mart.
Winn would be perfect. Solid consistent vet and plays good d. Holliday will cost too much and isn’t neccessary and the cost. Forget Ibanez. Winn and if not maybe Riviera, who has struggled since leg injury.
Ibanez can play, hes not perfect but he is hitting .277 with 10HRs and 53 RBI’s.
He would be a nice upgrade in LEFT.
By the way, Holliday is still a good hitter away from home (.314 avg). Just not much of a power hitter away from home.
He would be a nice player in NY, but probably not a superstar.
His numbers may ironically look similar to Church’s if they are both playing here.
the Mets would be smart to include a Delgado for Helton swap in a trade for Holliday. This would give Colorado salary relief for next year and forward, and it wouldnt cost the Mets as much in prospects and actually increase production at 1B. Kind of an NBA approach to the trade, but makes sense with these smaller spending teams.
Helton’s contract is awful (57 mil for the next 3 years) and Helton would clog 1B for 3 years, but it might be worth it to get Holliday and keep some prospects.
IMO, a move needs to be made even IF Church “returns”. Post concussion syndrome symptoms can flare up at any time, so there will always be uncertainty with Church.
Pick a Winn or Ibanez and tell him the LF is his. While Church is out, a Chavez/Tatis platoon isn’t the worst thing in the world. In the unlikely event that Church is “fine” and ready to play, then Chavez and Tatis go back to bench, which only makes that spot stronger.’
Omar cannot afford to wait until after reality strikes Chavez and Tatis… he has to strike the irons WITH the mindset that these hot streaks will come crashing down eventually, and that Church is out for the season. Omar can’t do this any other way.
