Where's the credit to Omar for not giving up on this guy and dealing him? (One could actually argue that his value is at an all-time high--- Holiday for Pelfrey straight up? Nahhh, pitching pitching pitching!)

I don't think he will be this dominating but we are seeing glimpses of this kid's ceiling. Now we have to watch out for the tired arm syndrome-- he's still young and has not thrown a ton of innings per year.

How old would you be if you didn't know how
old you were? How tired would your arm be if
you didn't know your pitch count?

In fact, I'm going to see the Mets in Cincinnati on Friday, and it's actually at the point where since I know I won't be able to see Santana, I'm hoping Jerry shakes up the rotation so that I'll get to see Big Pelf in action.

"...the reason being I think Pelfrey has a chance to leapfrog some people on the staff..."

Yeah, Jerry. Namely, John Maine and Pedro Martinez.

It's nice seeing Pelfrey mature and get better after every start. It took awhile but the pitching staff has really come together and the hitting has too for the most part. This is the team we were waiting for, I hope it continues after the all-star break.

As mentioned above, I was at the game last night as well. I don't know who started the "Pel-frey Pel-frey" chants, or the "Let's Go Pelfrey" plus clapping chants, but it doesn't matter -- it was really such a joy to be a part of; it felt really spontaneous and "organic" and was certainly well deserved. I think we all felt we were in the midst of Big Pelf's coming out party last night. We can argue over whether last night's was his defining game or whether it's just been a career-defining season, but this kid is going to be a major force in the NL for years to come; you can just feel it.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself a little, but last night, at least, I think everybody felt that Pelf's got big things in his future... Cy Young awards, All Star Games, magazine covers, the whole nine yards.

I suppose he could just be on a hot streak and could come back to earth at some point, but I really don't think so. I think he may be the real deal, and I haven't been this excited about a single Mets player in 10, maybe 15 years.

And Jon Miller, for all of his bombast, still got it right last night when he proclaimed "a star is born in the big city." It certainly felt that way last night at Shea.

I've seen enough of this years team to confidently say that there's no one on Earth, in glorious Heaven, or in the flaming depths of Hell that has any idea whatsoever how many games this team will win.

Yeah, I agree, no reason to mess around with Pelf's 8 innings of zilch for the Rockys. Not to mention, it's good to Get Joe Smith (if that is his real name, ha) a little confidence at that secondary closer position that he seems to be relishing. He's looking better and better and at his age, he's looking to become a very good late-inning reliever.

Although...

There were a few fans at Friday night's game who, instead of the standard "Let's Go Mets" cheer, were chanting "Let's Go Me- -ets (clap clap, clapclapclap)."

And I remember thinking they were Yankees spies. 'Cause that's not how you say "Let's Go Mets," damn it.
