its a good idea to sign carlos delagado, but not the option, try to offer him a two year contract and at like 20-25 million dollars and see if he would accept it, if not, if he does have, say a 30 hr close to 100 rbi season, and if they offer arbitration to him, and he leaves, then they can get two draft picks for him. so take the draft picks, besides isnt that the reason that they drafted ike davis?

He is staying back on the ball now and laying off the high fastballs, which was his big problem. Now he is starting to turn on the inside fastballs more, which is a welcoming surprise.

I don't know, I think you're both right. He's definitely gotten better at watching the bad pitches inside, and I have to say his hands look twice as fast as they did early this season. Also, he himself said that he's seeing the ball way better now for whatever reason.

The whole scenario of this team is just so hard to grasp when you think about:

Pelfrey
Delgado
Reyes
Ollie

With the exception of Reyes, I thought the bashing that the other three took on this blog was legitimate. Who in their right minds would have thought all four of these guys would be playing like they are at the same time?

I mean, it's like it isn't really happening....unreal.

#1 The mets would not pick up the option on Delgado for next year no matter what. the only way he comes back is if the mets buy out his $4m option and negotiate a one year deal (Probably around an additional $5-6m)

Delgado may take it. Knowing he is not going to get $16m next season. That said, I dont think I want him on this team next year.

#2 I think all of you and myself are guilty of at some point, calling delgado finishing, wanting him cut/released, and saying Omar is an idiot for not getting rid of him. This just shows that everyone may need to admit that Omar may actually know more than us bloggers do. And that we may be a little too rash to make a decision on a small sample of work.

Remember... the last couple of years Delgado has been coming off injuries. In the beginning of the 2007 season, he had surgery on his elbow. Last year in the last game of the season he broke his wrist. Maybe for the first time in a couple of years, he's finally getting healthy.

The Mets have 67 games remaining, if Delgado can hit say .270 down the stretch playing in 62 of the remaining games with 15 HRs and 50 RBI I think we woul all sign up for that production.

That is more or less the type of numbers on a per game basis he put up in 2006.

As far as the notion of Delgado in 2009? The only way I would accept that would be by him having an absolutely monsterous final 67 games in which he somehow vaulted himself into the conversation for MVP and finished in the top 5 in the voting which auto triggers his option. I will deal as a fan with that option being vested if it meant Delgado put up numbers that made him worthy of consideration.

I mean realistically for that to happen, you would be talking about a stretch in which Delagdo hit 20+ HRs and drove in 65+ runs.

That is too rosey to even imagine.

The posters here have generally been brutal to Carlos Delgado (aka on this blog, "Delcrappo') so it's gratifying to see his recent upswing. He's a decent, thoughtful guy who just doesn't fit the mold most posters would like.

As Miller and Morgan pointed out last night, a whole lot of pressure and expectations are put on Reyes, much of which is unwarranted or undeserved. As much as folks may dislike, Morgan, his point about just letting the kid play seems to make a lot of sense.

Meanwhile, D Wright blew multiple chances to tack on runs and throws a DP ball in the dirt to Easley. If either Delgado or Reyes made these kind of plays, this blog would be lit up with angry invective. Double standard? Sure smells like it.
