News: Myers To Return Against Mets
By Mike Nichols - Jul 16, 2008 6:03 pm

According to Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer, citing a ‘baseball source,’ Phillies RHP Brett Myers will return to the team’s starting rotation on July 23 against the Mets at Shea Stadium.

After going 3-9 with a 5.84 in 17 starts this season, the Phillies optioned Myers to their Triple-a Lehigh Valley affiliate.

…let’s hope the shea faithful gives myers the welcoming he deserves…

    Christmas come early? Nice..

    • Can someone help?

Is there a site where you can go on and be like:

Hey I am going to this Mets game and I want to meet up with a bunch of other people to have a good time!

If not I am posting it here:

I will be at the gameon the 27th v the Cards and I was wondering if anyone else is going and where you are parking/tail gateing.

  2. “…let’s hope the shea faithful gives myers the welcoming he deserves…”
couldn’t have put it better myself

    • ExileInLA says:

Anyone know where we can get Brett Myers t-shirts?

      Wifebeaters, of course…

      • slanginsanjuan says:

i wonder how many New York Mets fans know what are wifebeaters. the older ones do. being part italian american…thanks for referencing our rich culture.

      • The King of Queens says:

That’s hilarious some one has to print those up wifebeaters with Meyers name and number on the back and something like Phillies suck on the front.

  3. chicagometfan says:

Hamels is the only starting pitcher that scares me at all and he is pitching on Sunday. Whoever else they throw at us we should hit hard

  4. Wright88 says:

Damn I feel bad for Mrs. Myers.

  5. Ryn05 says:

July 23rd, leave your wives at home day!

    • murdertron3000 says:

Meet the Mets, meet the Mets…step right up and greet the Mets…

Bring your kiddies, bring your wife…but not on July 23rd, she’ll be afraid for her life…

  6. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

ugh I really hope myers doesnt use us as a spring board towards “turning the corner”. i know we’re all happy and the mets are hot but its gonna take more than a 9 game winning streak for me to ever be an optimistic mets fan

    • giuseppe franco_procede says:

Hi Zeile…I haven’t read a post from you in a long while. How are you bud?

  7. bvaz says:

is anyone else scratching their why the Phils would basically force Hamels to miss the Mets for a 2nd straight series (they moved him up a day last series) and also bring back Myers to make his first start against the mets?
it’s almost insulting like they don’t find these games that important.

    • chicagometfan says:

If I where a Phil fan I would be screaming at Charlie M. Just terrible managing in a pennant race but as a met fan I welcome him to have Hamels skip us as much as he wants

      • patrick says:

Well, one reason would be to get him an extra start in the second half. But considering they are off today, he pitched Sunday AND they have Monday off, a really aggressive team with a terrible starting staff would have pitched Hamels Friday and come back with him at least Wednesday or Thursday.

Hopefully those blows up in Cholly’s face.

      • phillygalfan says:

Am a phils fan, and believe me, have my Charlie M. voodoo doll full of pins – may decide to root for the local T-ball league down the street…..

        • vwrook says:

No offense but Why are you posting here? I wouldnt be caught dead on a Philly Blog? YOur a clost met fan arent you? Just admit it…

        • phillygalfan says:

Not a mets hater, actually philly/ny fans have more in common than you think! Interested in the blog complaints, especially when on a losing streak, which runs rampant in philly as well! No worries, won’t heckle – and definitely empathize w/ met fans who come to philly – I never condone the abuse!!

    • Dafatone80 says:

Well, Charlie Manuel’s an idiot. This is probably a higher-up decision. Maybe they’re all idiots?

Best part of last year was that the Phils signed Manuel to a 4 year extension because of his success. That’ll come back to bite them.

The guy has played Werth in CF and Victorino in RF. Victorino’s got 4 times the range of Werth.

    • sincekindergarten says:

Actually, no. Hole Camels is 1-2 lifetime against the Mets, who are 19-11 against LHSP this year. Cholly doesn’t want to hand the Mets a gift-wrapped win possibility, with an opportunity to get another when Moyer (who has been good against us in the past, but lately hasn’t been so hot) takes the mound two days later. We’re still under .500 against RHSP, so Cholly wants to maximize his RHSP against us.

      • SadClownGoodMets says:

You’re right about Moyer, who’s had 3 solid starts against the Mets this season, but the Phillies are 13-7 when Hamels starts….He gives them the best chance to win a ballgame, and that’s why he should be in there against the team that’s been creeping up. He has a 2.37 ERA since June 1st.

I get your point, and it makes sense, but that’s like admitting that they don’t believe Hamels can beat the Mets…which surely isn’t true.

That being said, I’m happy he’ll be riding the pine all series long at Shea.

  8. Salame says:

    How about this line:

2.1 IP, 6 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, a couple of coupons for maritage counseling and one big cheer from the croud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. ASod1975 says:

Didn’t know where to post this but figured it was worthy of at least a minor mention. The U.S. Olympic rosters were announced today, and New Orleans righty Brandon Knight is on the roster. The team is an interesting blend of prospects (Matt LaPorta, Colby Rasmus, etc.) and AAA vets (Mike Koplove, Terry Tiffee). As for Myers, I would love to see the Mets put a few crooked numbers on him. I’ve never thought much of the guy. One of those guys with a great arm but nothing between the ears.

  10. ksuth says:

    …at Shea Stadium.

  11. 911nafstem says:

    Hide the wives

  12. kendychavez says:

last time i really wanted to crush a pitcher it was glavine and he dominated us. i want to beat myers almost as much so the mets can redeem that pitiful loss for me by destroying myers and sending him right back to the minors.

  13. 911nafstem says:

I wish their was a way the Mets could adjust their rotation to have Santana AND Perez pitch in the Philly series.

    • sincekindergarten says:

With Big Pelf winning his last six starts, I’ll take my chances with him against the Phillthies.

  14. Can we declare it “Brett Myers Night” and hand out wife-beaters to everyone at the stadium? ;)

  15. D-Day says:

anyone go to the baseball prospectus website. right now they have the mets making the playoffs 60 % compared to the phillies 52 %. winning the division 49 % compare to the phils 41 %. and they are projecting the mets will finish with a record of 93 and 69. the phils-87 and 75. nice numbers. one can only hope they come true. LETS GO METS!!!!!!!

    • ASod1975 says:

Angel Pagan went 1-for-2 tonight for the Cyclones. He was removed for a defensive replacement in the fourth inning. Hopefully he didn’t reinjure himself. Maybe he’s going to join the Mets in Cincinnati.

  16. Mike Go says:

    Mets fans, repeat after me:

“Beat your wife, Myers, beat your wife”

  17. Flushing_is_Burning says:

everybody wear a wifebeater to the stadium that game??

  18. GravediggerHebner says:

Everybody has “beaten” me to the wifebeater comment so all I’ve got is I hope the PA guy who plays music during the games plays that old AM hit “Please Come to Boston” while Myers warms up on the mound.

  19. mikepelfreyismyguy says:

sincekindergarten, santana, maine, and perez are going on the three days, and i can guarantee that somehow, someway, the mets are gonna get swept, dont ask me why, i just have a feeling

  20. PhillyMet says:

When Myers was down in AAA, all he whined about was wanting to return to the pen. The guy doesn’t want to be a starter…should be interesting to see how he does. Way to throw him to the wolves right away, Charlie of Mayberry!

I guess if you look at what semblence of a staff they have left, what choice do the Phils have?

I am still cautiously optimistic about the Mets…all 4 of the games in CBP could have gone either way, and we beat up on two very bad teams.

But, they are in a nice little rythym!

  21. cousinrk says:

Is it too much to ask ESPN to talk about the last year at Shea at least once? Someone should let them know Shea is in its last year as well. They might not know. Maybe if Brett Favre played at the Big Shea they’d cover it more.

  22. John The Mets Fan says:

Did I read correctly, the Phils are also interested in Blanton from the A’s?

  23. MetsGuy says:

    Final solution for THIS season.
Get Casey Blake and see what a platoon of Chavez/Pagan can do in the OF.
Reyes, Chavez/Pagan, Wright, Beltran, Church, Easley, Delgado, Castro/Schnieder.
    Pagan, Castro, Castillo, Tatis, Blake
    Santana, Maine, Perez, Pedro, Pelfrey
Wagner, Sanchez, Heilman, Feliciano, Show, Smith, Elduque.

Odd man out is Anderson, he is just not needed as he is LH and can’t play the field. Also, he has just not gotten going on offense. Problem is that he is signed for 2 years. .

    • stickguy says:

He’s not already in his second year? For some reason, I thought this was it forhim.

He can be the odd man out. Doesn’t seem to have much left, and if they bring back Church and Pagan, and in a new guy (say Blake), there really isn’t going to be any place left for him.

Can Blake play first base too?

      • MetsGuy says:

No I think Anderson has another year. I think we resigned him for 2 years this offseason.
And yes Blake can play 1B too. He plays everything except pitcher and catcher.

  24. D-Day says:

hey just got tickets to the mets-phils game on the 23rd. myers pitching and a heard the idea of getting as many mets fans as possible to wear wifebeaters to the game. so we gonna do this. im DOWN! METS FANS UNITE!!! let me know if anyone else whos going is down to do this. might just wear a wifebeater under my jersey anyway just in case!

  25. CharlieH says:

    Well, THERE’S 1 win, anyway…
