Bottomline is, fans see $$$ signs and expect that to be the motivating factor in a player actually somehow improving.

If you can't view free agency objectively, you might as well not watch professional sports.

The team that signs a free agent is never going to get the statistical value out of that player because you are always paying for what they previously accomplished and in baseball constantly generating the next market level plateau for agents and their clients, it is just that simple.

Consider what the Angels gave to Torii Hunter and what Beltran makes currently.

Me neither. He doesn't have a hard shell, might be a bit sensitive, especially with all of NY going after him, but he has always seemed like a lovely guy. And a freaking great center fielder. We are lucky to have him.

I don't know why Beltran gets the flack he does sometimes from some fans. Yes, he is classy. Respectful to his teammates and coaches and manager as well as the front office. Respectful to the fans for the most part. (Sure he balked at a curtain call, but that's minor compared to the rudeness some players show some fans.) Respectful to the game.

But apart from that, he's been about the best, if not the best, offensive and defensive outfielder in all of baseball since the start of 2005. What more can you want?

Too bad he wasn''t selected for the all-star game. He deserved to go.

Nice. I live right in that neighborhood - work at Hartwick.

I took in the O-Yanks a time or two when I was a kid. Partly because I was too young to know better and partly because it's the only game in town.

They just announced that the community group that's owned the team forever (30 years?) is selling. Nobody's quite sure what's going to happen with the team when the contract is up in 2010. It'd be a shame to see them move out of town, especially since they just rennovated Damaschke Field (but it's still kind of a charming dump).

My grandmother used to live on Maple St. (I used to skateboard down the hill from SUNY Oneonta to her house) but back then it was the Oneonta Yankees so being a Met fan I just went to the movies instead of ballgames. Thanks for the memories.

Damn, I've gotta pay better attention. I live in Oneonta and I didn't even realize the Tigers were home last night - let alone that Brooklyn was in town.

Duh.
