News: El Duque Has Foot Soreness
By Mike Nichols - Jul 17, 2008 8:59 pm

Orlando Hernandez was removed due to foot soreness after pitching one inning in his rehab start for Double-A Binghamton tonight.

…ugh…i wonder if both el duque and Moises Alou come from the the same family tree…it would certainly explain their penchant for getting injured…

At least Alou doesn’t lie about his age.

  2. Lord Charles Curveball says:

Would Hernandii be the plural of Hernandez?

  3. dave27 says:

I’m going to miss these two. Maybe we should sign Pavano in the offseason. Or Hampton.

  4. ALeatherGlove says:

I had a bunion from playing hockey and waited about 2 years before having surgery on it. I can say from experience that whenever El Duque does any kind of physical exertion, his foot is going to hurt, probably pretty badly. If he isn’t willing to pitch through the pain the Mets should just put an end to the farce and send him off into the sunset.

nice post. i scrolled over it and posted a similar story. point is, i have cash riding on the fact that el duque pitches less than 20 innings, and i like my chances.

  5. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    Can’t say I’m devastated, but I’m disappointed.

  6. John The Mets Fan says:

Are we actually having this discussion? Alou and El Duque? Seriously….enough already. Lets stop the BS, and I hope that no real mets fan actually considered that either of these two will be back in any significant capacity this year. To Alou and El Duque I say….THERES THE DOOR…..

I wonder how many year it will take this franchise to “get it” with Aaron Heilman. He is garbage. Pure garbage. Everytime he earns your trust back, he screws you again. He is just simply the most gutless, ineffective pitcher I’ve ever seen this franchise run out there. He has no command, no idea where anything that leaves his hand is going.

But no, let’s keep trusting him.

Same old Mets are back tonight. Same $138MM “Ace” and same garbage bullpen. Can’t play every game against teams going noplace who can’t get up to play at dumpy Shea.

    • dave27 says:

Sorry…I just really don’t like Aaron Heilman, and I will never have faith in him.

    • shiprdr19 says:

This team has won 9 in a row entering play tonight, right??? Just checking.

      • dave27 says:

Yeah I was all pissy. I feel silly now.

NOT the same old Mets…love the fight in this team now.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

So this was obviously posted before the 9th inning…..
How are you feeling now? I hope you’re as excited as the rest of us who just saw them pull that out of the hat, bad pitching and all…..

It is comments like these that make me wonder why metsblog.com have a commment section. The mets were working on a 9 game win streak (now 10) and you are ripping into an ace who had a 2.83 era coming in, a 7th inning guy who has been lights out for over a month, and the team in general. THIS IS NOT FOOTBALL, not every game is reason to lose your mind, unless you write for the post, this is a marthon not a sprint. Even at the point the mets gave this lead up they had shown a lot of fight coming back, and you still didn’t believe they may do it again. You don’t have to drink all the cool aid, but give some respect to a team that has one 10 in a row and is playing very well.

The team won and all, but I will say in Heilman’s semi-defense, in a one run game with the ability for the ball to get around that park, intentionally walking that batter was a bad call by Manuel, you have two outs your pitcher lets up a double, let him go out the guy, I hate the intentional walk except when you are trying to set up a double play in the sixth or later.

    • ToastyJoe says:

my goodness, David. Were you having a bad night, or what? (p.s., I agree on Heilman).

  8. Bacci says:

They are stealing from the company! At least give them a clipboard or something; let them earn their pay.

    • stickguy says:

they need vendors for the stand alone beer carts in the upper deck.

Of course, Alou would probably pop a quad reaching into the ice bucket, and sprain an elbow taking off the top!

  9. anrst says:

WHY DIDNT OMAR MAKE DUQUE GET THE BUNION REMOVED OVER THE WINTER ???????

  10. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

he probably injured it while he was laughing all the way to the bank.

  11. amazin92 says:

Do we even want him back?
    I sure don’t

  12. nomoredelgado says:

To anyone who expects el duque back again this season…

    guess again.

I have a bunion on my foot. I’ve been ignoring it for awhile, it’s not hurting my young body yet.

Podiatrists who I have visited told me that if I wanted corrective surgery on my bunion, it takes 6 months at LEAST to recover(the surgery is basically the docs’ breaking your foot).

The point is, unless El Duque gets wildly invasive surgery to fix his foot, which would ruin him for whatever gas he has left in the tank, it will be status quo with him. It’s a shame.

But we’ve won 10 straight. And Joe blanton is a scrub. and all will be fine in met land.

  13. Zoe says:

whatever, big surprise. duque’ll pull a groin getting out of bed tomorrow. then he’ll call Alou in the morning and the act of dialing will strain his finger, while the act of picking up will pull Alou’s shoulder.

    Moving on.

  14. patrick says:

    Blessing in disguise?

  15. dutti22 says:

Honestly, who cares either way. If we are a team that is concerned what Alou and El Duque is going to give us, then we aren’t a championship caliber team anyway. You can’t count on people over 40 playing the game at a competitive level, and if they do… you take it.

But, frankly I wouldn’t mind not seeing anything mentioned or written about either of these two guys again. They’re just not options.

  16. Blue_n_Orange says:

Just have the bunion surgery!!! What are you worried about?! Missing playing time?!!!! C’MON!!!

  17. teufelshuffle86 says:

we’ve got a regular bruce vilanch in the house :D
