    • ucmetsfan says:

i will be there 10 rows behind home plate in my santana shirt

      • Should be easy to spot….just don’t be the idiot on the cell phone trying to wave to the camera while the game is going on….do not be THAT guy.

        • Nightlife says:

Yeah, those people are the worst. No one cares that you are on TV.

        • Only the guy’s mother, who is watching the first game of the year because “Timmy” told her he might be on TV.

“Look Ma, I am WAVING at you!”

      • Ceetar says:

I”m sure you’ll be the only one.

It’s not both the official and unofficial second half. Johan gonna dominate this crappy team?

  2. BLUEXORANGE says:

cant wait for the game, lets make it ten in a row baby. lets hope were still on fire…im not satisfied with 9 in a row to be honest haha

  3. Ceetar says:

Santana needs 5 Ks to 1500.

  4. metmania says:

    Where is Cerrone?

  5. BLUEXORANGE says:

i say Santana strikes out 6 over 7 innings giving up 2 runs….and that will be good enough for the win tonight…..i think tonight really shows how were going to beat the bad teams for now on…..

  6. IndianaMets says:

I have tickets for tomorrow night, a few rows behind the Mets dugout. Cant wait! You guys who live around NY are spoiled! Let the streak continue on…

  7. HOFMets57 says:

    9 in a row….

    10 in a row…

    11 in a row…

    12 in a row.

Series SWEEP, fellas. Heard it here first

  8. Jaded1983 says:

Do we have any word on Church? I thought he was going to be “ready” to go for this series?

  9. MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m set to see the win streak continue tonight.
I’m betting Santana comes out strong.
    Let’s Go Mets!

  10. Big pelf 101 says:

Damn it the phillies just got Joe Blanton form the A’s!!

  11. khmustache says:

what happend to cerrone? did he join the peace corps or something?

  12. LETS GO METS WE NEED IT NOW!

  13. TeufelsNails says:

let’s go puppies!!!! let’s make it 10 in a row!!!!

  14. Blanton is an innings eater, but he is having a way below average year….77 ERA+.

  15. dominicanboy08 says:

its funny that metsblog posted the blanton news while the phillies blog didnt…lol. we have the best blog!

  16. toomanyuniforms says:

Ooh — Dunn’s in the lineup. Numerous Metsblog regulars must be putting plastic tarps on their couches as we speak. . . .

    • therealsince86 says:

I must have missed this discussion. Seems to be a hot topic around here.
But if you don’t think that
Reyes, Beltran, Dunn, Wright, Church, Easley, Delgado, Castro
would not look better than what we have, then I am glad I missed it.

      • toomanyuniforms says:

A lot of people would seem a better option than Tatis. So what? Dunn is a decent player, but the stat-head gushing is really unwarranted.

      • Danny1986 says:

        why do you like Dunn?

Don’t make this an argument about what other people are posting and trying to cut down their statement or by routinely taking the counterargument.

        just plain and simple.

What is therealsince86 opinion of Adam Dunn and does he REALLY want him on this Mets team?

        • therealsince86 says:

I think he is a freak of nature, how does a guy that hits .230 have close to a 1.000 OPS?. Not ideal but I could live with him being our LF this season and replacing Delgado next IF we could not get Tex.

        • Danny1986 says:

His OPS is closer to .900. Still good, but not 1.000.

But what I find even more freaky is how a guy can hit 40 HRs every year and barely drive in 100 runs. I know. I know. “It’s the people in front of him”. Yeah right. Or maybe perhaps it could be that with RISP he’ bats .220 and K’s 25% of the time. He’s a horrible run producer.

If he replaces Delgado next year…..I may be able to live with that. Though he is not as experienced at 1b as many tend to believe. He has about 100 games under his belt. But I would assume he is no worse a fielder than Delgado. I would prefer a smarter and more multidimensional ball player, but if Dunn is the result of a limitedh and we are dealt….so be it.

But I highly object to him being in this lineup this year. It is practically like having 2 Delgados. That does not make us better.

      • Danny1986 says:

and where’s your boy Castillo in that lineup?!?!?!?!?!?

        • therealsince86 says:

          Injured, LOL.
It depends on the matchup. Sit Dunn or Delgado some against LHP and Easley can take their spot and Castillo can play 2nd. Castillo hits LHP better anyway.

        • Danny1986 says:

as long as he is not BATTING second.

    • Knuckler says:

It would be cool to have a trade during this series. Have him switch uniforms during the game……..anyways..LET’s GO METS!!!!!!

  17. Knuckler says:

Oh no they got Blanton…..I’m shaking in my boots……TONTOS!!!!

  18. gipper82475 says:

    WOOOO-HOOOOOO!

MLB Extra Innings allowing you to choose which feed tonight!

  19. khmustache says:

    well that sucked

  20. gipper82475 says:

    Uh-oh. Arresto momentum.

  21. toomanyuniforms says:

    What’s the word I’m looking for . . . ? “Inauspicious”?

  22. kd bart says:

    That’s it. SEASON’S OVER!!!!!! :)

  23. NYCESQ says:

The Phillies have reached an agreement with the Oakland Athletics to acquire right-handed pitcher Joe Blanton. Blanton is 5-12 this season after going 14-10 with a 3.95 ERA last season.

The Athletics get second baseman Adrian Cardenas, pitcher Josh Outman and outfielder Matthew Spencer, all minor leaguers.

    No Carrasco…

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Good trade for the Phils. Called “buying low.” Low risk proposition.

  24. Nightlife says:

Jesus, 3 Ks on 11 pitches. Need to do just a little better than that next inning guys.

  25. mex84 says:

Of all the pitchers out there, knowing the Phillies were gonna make a move for one. i’m glad its Blanton!

    • NYCESQ says:

It’s true. Blanton doesn’t really worry me. Their rotation would be ok if Myers got back to form. If he doesn’t, they are still pretty terrible.

  26. kd bart says:

    It’s one inning!!!!!!!

  27. Nightlife says:

Love the way this Reds announcer says “Tatis”.

  28. Nightlife says:

HAHAHAHAHA Reds announcer just declared Carlos Gomez was having a “brilliant season”.

    • Danny1986 says:

      brilliant? NO.

Much better than what anyone expected? Absolutely.

Considering the experience under his belt, he is having a very good season.

      • Nightlife says:

I don’t know about much better than anyone expected. He is pretty much what he was last year during his short stint with us. Plus he is being placed in the lead off spot which is just absurd.

  29. metinDC23 says:

I”m supposed to get a free week of mlb.tv for voting for the allstar game but its asking for a promo code which I don’t think I got- anyone know anything about this?

    • metsfanatic says:

You are supposed to click on the link in the email.

    • dykstraw II says:

we get to redeem this anytime we want?

i’ll need a couple free weeks, i’m going on the road

      • metinDC23 says:

No its just this week- it ends tommorow.

They had a free promo week a month or so ago and I think if you signed up for that your can’t use this promo.

  30. TeufelsNails says:

Reds pitching coach, Dick Pole —master of the high, hard one

  31. NYCESQ says:

P.S. I am very tired of the Platinum dealer lady.

  32. Danny1986 says:

I can’t believe I am actually happy to see Guiseppe Franco after these last 3 days.

  33. metsfanatic says:

Cerrone still connected to this blog. When was his last posting.

  34. DavidDog says:

Blanton has been one of the worst pitchers in the majors this year, hardly any better than Eaton or Myers. I dont really follow the AL closely, but why would a team who’s competing for a playoff spot trade away one of their starters midseason if they didnt know he sucked?

  35. mex84 says:

    Wow, Cueto is lights out!

  36. DavidDog says:

    this is getting ridiculous, btw

  37. The Slider says:

    I love Cueto’s stuff. Elllllllectrrrrrric.

  38. Danny1986 says:

WILL YOU GUYS MAKE THIS CHUMP THROW A STRIKE PLEASE?!?!?!

  39. toomanyuniforms says:

Watch Tater take this guy yard.

  40. Nightlife says:

Cueto was probably amped that Pedro was supposed to be in the house tonight. The man is his hero.

  41. Nightlife says:

    Oh man, Fernando. SO close.

  42. metsfanatic says:

    Tater is the man.

  43. Nightlife says:

Figures the guys you wouldn’t expect to count on are the first ones to jump on Cueto.

  44. DavidDog says:

dunn is insulting as a fielder

  45. MetsFan4Decades says:

Man, you just gotta love Tatis. I don’t care if he is lighting in a bottle. I’m loving it while it lasts….

  46. The Slider says:

I don’t give Schneider anything to hit here if I’m Cueto.

  47. metsfanatic says:

Why do they have a picture of Mr. Met with a Giambi moustache on their uniform?

  48. NYCESQ says:

We will be fine, we are getting good swings at his pitches. We just have to make him throw strikes.

  49. toomanyuniforms says:

Maybe Cueto should be a closer.

  50. toomanyuniforms says:

WOW!!!! Watching Dunn stare at pitches is a religious experience!

    • therealsince86 says:

Get off of it. You appear to be starting this more tonight than anyone else. I have not seen anyone on here bring up his name tonight besides you.

      • toomanyuniforms says:

        . . . he sniveled.

Having. Fun. If this is too serious for you, try therapy or knitting.

        • mex84 says:

He may be Dunn with this site!

        • therealsince86 says:

No I just hate when people repeat the same thing over and over again. Some people like him some don’t. There’s nothing really wrong with either one.

  51. Nightlife says:

Man, just look at how badass Dunn is. He’d look pretty cool in a Mets uni. The amount of awesomeness would just be dumbfounding.

Oh hey and look at Dunn just doing what he does, getting on base..

  52. NYCESQ says:

So…Church is not coming off the DL??

    • Nightlife says:

Can’t come off the DL until the 21st.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Just heard Gary say he may not – they’re going to be very cautious this time. So I have no idea what that really means….

      • NYCESQ says:

That is what I was referring to. Cautious or not, I think we have to make a move now.

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

And I wouldn’t be surprised if Omar does make a move. I think he’s just holding the cards close so as not to tip his hand.

  53. Nightlife says:

Oh man, I love Dunn so much.

  54. metsfanatic says:

Dunn is a big fat idiot.

  55. Danny1986 says:

dunn is insulting as a baserunner

  56. NY Cuban says:

Is Mr. Met related to the Reds guy? I think they may be cousins.

    • khmustache says:

come to think of it…i don’t think i’ve ever seen them in the same room…hmmm

  57. The Slider says:

Is that Brantley who’s the color commentator for the Reds?

  58. stickguy says:

2nd half, same as the first.

A Mets starter blowing out the pitch count by the 2nd inning. Looks like Santana is good for 6, at most, tonight.

Good thing the pen is nice and rested!

  59. therealsince86 says:

Johan pitching a game in this inning.

  60. KL15 says:

Does anyone fell like Johan is being squeezed here?

  61. mex84 says:

Thank God the pens rested, almost 50 pitches already for Santana.

  62. The Slider says:

30 pitches in the inning so far for Santana.

  63. metsfanatic says:

    Santana throws too many pitches.

  64. gipper82475 says:

0-2 against the number 8 hitter on the frickin Reds and he walks him.

When, oh, when, will Johan start showing dominant ace stuff?

  65. stickguy says:

Santana and Maine both seem to need that put away pitch right now. THey will go 0-2, then throw 10 foul balls since they can’t seem to put the batter away, but the pitches are good enough that they aen’t just putting them in play early.

  66. 911nafstem says:

Uh oh, hopefully Santana doesn’t have any Nam-like flashbacks here

  67. toomanyuniforms says:

Forget Dunn. Let’s get Ross! That guy can seriously stare.

  68. The Slider says:

I’ll go crazy if Cueto gets a hit here.

  69. metsfanatic says:

    Cueto hoping for the salami.

  70. Nightlife says:

That second strike to Cueto was called a ball on the last batter.

  71. toomanyuniforms says:

Aces get out of trouble. Well done, Johan, even if it took 120 pitches.

  72. Nate W. says:

El Duque was one inning and done for the B’mets tonight…

there is no El Duque, there is no El Duque.

    • mex84 says:

Did he start? Might just be getting aquainted to relief.

      • Nate W. says:

he did start, gave up two runs, finished the first and was out.

could be a start towards a relief role, but he has relieved in the past so he shouldnt need to do it this way.

      • metsfanatic says:

        He started.

  73. Jaded1983 says:

is it just me, or does santana seem to work from behind in the count a lot?

  74. Dafatone80 says:

Has anyone mentioned that we should look into getting Adam Dunn?

  75. 911nafstem says:

Way to make him work Jose

  76. NYCESQ says:

Great, now Pagan is a question mark?

    OF-er, OF-er, OF-er.

    • therealsince86 says:

      More info please?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      So it sounds….
I’ll bet Pagan wishes he let that foul ball go in the stands, back in May. Hindsight is always 20/20.

    • Nate W. says:

Pagan just went 2 for 2 against a lefty, which he needed to test because he had only faced righties for a few days in a row…

      whats wrong now?

  77. el_giacomo says:

Darnit. Sittin’ here ‘watching’ the game on Gameday and reading comments here when I remember that we got a free trial of MLB.tv Premium for voting for the Final All-Star spot. Got all excited that I get to watch a Mets game live, but for some reason it’s blacked out here in Georgia!?!?! My best guess is that I live outside Chattanooga, TN which is the AA-affiliate of the Reds. Free trial expires tomorrow…ugh…

    • toomanyuniforms says:

It’s the Braves, doing whatever they can to eff with our lives.

      • el_giacomo says:

haha nice one man. wouldn’t put it past ‘em!!!

on a side note, at least I get the audio feed…beggars can’t be choosers, right?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

That’s just crazy. You know you never get anything for nothing….
I got that free trial too but being in the SNY market, I didn’t bother.

    • DavidDog says:

Dude just buy the damn package, isnt it like 50 bucks for the rest of season? That’s like one dinner for 2 at a so-so restaurant… If ur a true Metsaholic, you’ll be happy u did

      • el_giacomo says:

I do buy it from time-to-time when I have the extra money…now is not one of those times, however. :(

  78. NYCESQ says:

    Ok…forget El Duque.

  79. 911nafstem says:

The only plus is that hopefully Omar will be embarrassed by all of this and he’ll never go after these injury prone old farts again.

    • gipper82475 says:

      One can only hope.

      • Danny1986 says:

        Gipper….you’re a lawyer. Question.

Do the Mets have grounds to void Castillo’s contract based on false pre-tenses?

      • Danny1986 says:

        and I’m being serious.

The guy walks around like Fred Sanford.

        • gipper82475 says:

False pretenses is a broad and not often useful term, and rarely comes into play in contract law. MLB contracts are governed by what is written in them (and they do usually include passing a physical) and are additionally governed by the CBA.

          Short answer: no.

PS: The above does not constitute legal advice and does not create a lawyer-client relationship between myself andDanny1986, the readers of Metsblog, Omar Minaya or Sterling Mets, LLP.

          Del-got-it!

  80. MetsFan4Decades says:

I said at the All Star break, the key, (I think) to the second half is keeping the starters and most of the bullpen healthy. There’s already a question mark with Pedro. And forget Duque – pitched one inning last night and was pulled????
Our other 4 starters are 29 and under so here’s hoping no injuries.

    Sigh……

  81. Danny1986 says:

Castillo is a far better defensive player than Easily. It floors me to think why anyone would think otherw………oops. forget it.

    • Dafatone80 says:

Castillo was much better last year. This year, he’s been surprisingly mediocre out there, and Easley’s been surprisingly good.

  82. Danny1986 says:

TOm Browning. Answer is TOm Browning.

  83. Danny1986 says:

    phuk….probably Soto then.

  84. stickguy says:

the pitching can’t afford a mistake tonight, because the Mets aren’t scoring much if anything tonight. Unless Cueto gets tired and they have to go to the pen (and I am assuming the Reds pen isn’t fantastic?)

Mets should go with the plan of trying to take pitches and foul off pitches to run up his count!

    • el_giacomo says:

“Mets should go with the plan of trying to take pitches and foul off pitches to run up his count!”

Unfortunately this is not one of the talents of the Mets offense as a whole…..we’ll see….

  85. khmustache says:

everytime they say ceuto all i can think of is that weird stomach alien in total recall…that dude was gross

  86. NYCESQ says:

    Danny1986,

False Pretenses refers to the taking of title, with intent to deprive the owner. Unfortunately, Castillo doesn’t fall into that category.

    • Danny1986 says:

      thank you.

Bob Costas used the exact term on his HBO special last night. He was asking about the possibility of voiding the contracts of known steroid users.

this is what I get for quoting a d-bag.

  87. TeufelsNails says:

    DEL—GOT-IT!!!!!!!!!!

  88. Nightlife says:

    DELGADO!!!!! WOW

  89. khmustache says:

    CARLOS!!!!

  90. NYCESQ says:

Did he just hit it OUT of the stadium?

  91. DavidDog says:

    got-it

  92. MetsFan4Decades says:

Delgado !! Woo-Hoo. Way to start off your second half, Carlos!

Gary ‘Heading towards the Ohio River’ – lol !!

  93. Danny1986 says:

    WOW.

So does that count as a HR in both Ohio AND Kentucky. B/C that’s where that phuking thing landed.

  94. Dafatone80 says:

    Yes!

I’m about to head out, sadly. I’m thinking, “gee, 3-1 count, if Delgado’s really hitting well, he should tee off on this pitch.”

And then he hits it 6 miles.

  95. The Slider says:

    I apologize Mr. Delgado.

  96. Nightlife says:

So, if Delgado continues to swing the bat like this do we move back up to the 5 hole?

  97. cousinrk says:

Wow maybe that wrist injury he had just took a while to heal and he hasn’t lost it. He’s hit some absolute tape measure bombs. You can’t say he doesn’t still have it anymore.

  98. 911nafstem says:

Geez, where was this last year Delgado?

  99. The Slider says:

    Delgado – 38 HRs, 110 RBIs, .270 BA.

    Ooooops.

  100. stickguy says:

Delgado? If h keeps this up, I may have to retract some of the mean things I said about him earlier in the year! I would, however, still dangle him to see if an AL team might be deseprate and give up something of value…

I will not, however, ever take back my Castillo comments (although I doubt he will make me).

OK, raise your hands everyone that predicted Delgado would lead the team in HRs the day after the ASB? If it’s up, you’re lying!

  101. j_k says:

He’s finally not swinging at the pitch inside off the plate, he could always hit it out over the plate, he was just swinging at too many balls.

  102. therealsince86 says:

Delgado’s July OPS. 1.207. WOW. I guess he is not done after all.

  103. Skyhigh980 says:

    Dunn hammered that ball wow

  104. Nightlife says:

    Hey guys, its ADAM DUNN

    HE SUCKS

    BOOO

    NOT ON MY TEAM

  105. therealsince86 says:

I am not going to say a thing.

  106. DavidDog says:

i was hoping he’d fall and miss 1st base

  107. 911nafstem says:

    Dunn is a beast

  108. gipper82475 says:

Dear God, Johan is a home run machine.

  109. stickguy says:

And of course Santana is consistant. He always seems to give up the few runs he gets right away to keep the game close.

And of course, being as it was Dunn, it will generate about 300 posts!

    • dykstraw II says:

this is because dunn is awesome, and people refuse to acknowledge it! even our announcers!

  110. The Slider says:

    Jesus Christ, Johan!

  111. Dafatone80 says:

Adam Dunn is good at baseball.

  112. 911nafstem says:

But his era is under 3!

  113. Dafatone80 says:

Wow. You don’t really want wins, do you Johan?

  114. Jaded1983 says:

    r u kidding me???

  115. The Slider says:

    Ooooh boy.

  116. NYCESQ says:

After watching those two blasts, I feel like I just woke up from a nap and my gf kicked me between the legs.

  117. el_giacomo says:

    ugh…

    • jimyager says:

SANTANA STINKS !!!!! We all knew that we would loose a game, but, not like this. Back to back HRs to a team like the Reds? C’Mon Im seeing a flashback to May. Delgado hit a 2 run shot and Santana gives it right back. I have not been impressed with him at all. Lets hope the team can score a few more runs and get in a tie with the Phillies for first place. LETS GO METS !!!

  118. 911nafstem says:

    Tom Glavine would be proud

  119. Jaded1983 says:

i dont want to hear him B* and moan about not getting run support anymore….

  120. marvelousmarv says:

Can Santana pick better spots for his HRs or can he pick him?

  121. stickguy says:

Damn Santana. Great time to have the HHRM show back up. Plus, he may not make it 5 at this pint.

DOn’t complain about run support if every time you area handed a lead, you cough it right back up.

  122. gipper82475 says:

They’re paying him this much, yet one can argue for at least two, maybe three other guys in the rotation as being the guy you want on the mound in a big game.

  123. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

And this is the bottom of the order. Yikes.

  124. DavidDog says:

this santana guy is merely better-than-average, not “ace”, not “dominant”… why do all these big stars seem to “not throw quite as hard as they used to” once we pick em up for 200 million?

  125. well, it’s still the beginning of the first half…?

  126. khmustache says:

is it just me or do the reds have incredebly loud hecklers in the stands

  127. 911nafstem says:

At least Santana’s defenders can’t use the unearned runs excuse

  128. marvelousmarv says:

Wow these first four innings are like the first half (except for the last 2 weeks).

  129. stickguy says:

pull Santana. He is done. Looks like an Ollie Meltdown going on here.

  130. The Slider says:

OT- I think Easley and Delgado should have been switched in the batting order given that Cueto, a righty, was pitching tonight.

    Damn you Manuel!

  131. adam900 says:

Santana ****es about wins but then he gives up 2 HR’s in a row, I love it.

  132. NYCESQ says:

HAHAHA, “Watch Santana, like a CAT.”

  133. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

“Like a cat” having control problems, Keith.

  134. 911nafstem says:

He’s not getting any help, that’s for sure

  135. marvelousmarv says:

    Is Santana limping??

    • Tina says:

I’ve been wondering this also. Something looks off. He’s walking like an old man.

  136. MetsFan4Decades says:

Still think Santana is better than average and does not ’stink’ but if he comes up with a loss here, he more than deserves it…..

  137. Skyhigh980 says:

    santana are u serious

  138. gipper82475 says:

Endy making a bad play in the field = we’re doomed.

  139. adam900 says:

ahhhh finally I see the real Mets.

  140. lil pelf says:

endy woulda had it, wait what?

  141. DavidDog says:

    like i was saying…

  142. el_giacomo says:

c’mon Johan, stop the bleeding, ugh!

  143. Jaded1983 says:

i have this feeling that batters are going to use santana for batting practice in the latter stages of his contract

  144. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, no Endy. Don’t expect to see him do that.

Here’s where it falls apart. Errors, bloop hits, infield hits……

  145. gipper82475 says:

    Over-rated! Clap, clap. clapity clap!

  146. 911nafstem says:

Look on the bright side, Santana and his backers have their excuse with the Endy miscue

  147. Dafatone80 says:

Not a great approach by Endy. He’s entitled to do that from time to time.

Just our luck, facing the Reds the first time all year they’re somewhat hot.

    Oh well. Game’s not over.

  148. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I hate to say it, but it’s looking a little like the Mets have lost some of the “big mo” they had going with the nine straight, just as some of us feared they might. They’ve got to bear down and get it together now. Trade in the Gatorade for some Red Bull or something.

    • therealsince86 says:

They are down 3-2 in the 4th. Give it until the end of the game 1st please.

      • therealsince86 says:

        Ok, now worry.

      • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Hey, I’m not saying all is lost. Just that they’re not looking all that energetic to me. They still have time to get it together, but they’ve got to do it fast.

And Santana clearly doesn’t have his stuff today; I think it’s time to bring in the big hook.

  149. Skyhigh980 says:

i cant wait for santana to complain after this start, i cant believe most met fans (me included) thought that any day santana pitched, it would almost be a guaranteed W

    • Tina says:

Well then, you’re an idiot. Great years are 20ish wins. They pitch a lot of games, they lose some. Even the greats, sometimes they don’t have their stuff on a given night.

And it looks to me like he’s got a bit of a limp.

  150. The Slider says:

Santana’s pitches have been up in the zone this inning.

Oh-oh. Kep is up. (I love Kep).

  151. John The Mets Fan says:

Way to go Johan….way to start your great “second half”…….ughhh……

  152. Skyhigh980 says:

    ARE YOU KIDDING SANTNA WTFFFF

  153. gipper82475 says:

    Boooooo!

    Johan the Bust.

  154. khmustache says:

    wow…

  155. The Slider says:

    Ommmmmmmarrrrrrrrrrr!

  156. MetsFan4Decades says:

You have got to be kidding me…..

  157. dykstraw II says:

open season on johan booing. do your job, ace.

  158. 911nafstem says:

Great job Santana, I hope he seriously screws up his precious ERA

  159. NYCESQ says:

He just looks flat. Too many days rest.

  160. SantanaCYYOung says:

what scares me most about santana is that he does not have a slider anymore

  161. marvelousmarv says:

    Pull him…this is abominable

  162. el_giacomo says:

    Wow. Just wow.

  163. Skyhigh980 says:

santana just can’t keep a lead thats given to him for more than an inning

  164. Dafatone80 says:

This is what, Johan’s 2nd bad start all year?

Even he’s allowed an occasional off day. And he has been good this year.

Let’s see if the Mets’ high-powered offense (I love saying that, we’re 7th in MLB in runs) can come back.

    • Desperad07 says:

Keep drinking that Kool-Aid. How come when Ollie or Pelf pitches no-run ball in a 2-0 game, it’s “how great a pitching performance it was.” But when Santana loses a close game, it’s all on the offense. HE gets paid to win close games and that was more than one bad day for those. I’m sick of hearing about his ERA and not having a bad year. For an ACE making uber millions, he’s having a terrible year.

      • tengobotas says:

2-0 ball game against the giants and colorado dont forget. those teams are terrible.

    • tengobotas says:

How dare you defend the player who is single handedly sinking this team!

      /sarcasm

  165. 911nafstem says:

I’ve never seen a guy give up more 2 strike hits in my life

    • Gina says:

So you haven’t watched John Maine pitch this year?

I’d say I’ve never seen a team give up so many 2 strike hits, it’s like a reoccurring theme with us.

    • John The Mets Fan says:

What team are you watching? Ever see Maine pitch?

  166. SuperSchlong says:

Get the hell out Santana. What a bust.

  167. jimmyk456 says:

looks like 9 was a good run guys

    • 911nafstem says:

Well if it wasn’t going to be Santana it was going to be Wagner that blew it

  168. DavidDog says:

pull the f***er, he’s burying us, 2 strikes every time and never an out

  169. The Slider says:

I’m gonna try and change our karma and watch Countdown with Keith for a couple minutes.

  170. gipper82475 says:

We could have 3 good number2-3 pitchers for what we are paying this formerly dominant, former ace.

  171. lil pelf says:

we’re on a nine game win streak! the bullpen will keep the reds at 5 runs, and i am confident we will produce at least three before this game is done.

    • khmustache says:

      i’m with you

    • Two-By-Four says:

The way this club has been playing your have to have confidence that this game is far from over. But we expected a pitcher that appears dominating on the mound, say the way Pedro was in his prime, or a Steve Carlton or Tom Seaver. What we are seeing is a pitcher who seems to struggle even when he’s getting guys out. He throws a lot of pitches even when he is effective. Perhaps he has lost something off his pitches and while he can still put up good numbers you walk away after seeing him pitch and say is that all there is.

  172. garykeithron says:

what’s up with the guy in the background screaming like an idiot?

  173. NYCESQ says:

People who keep saying this guy is a bust, needs to get their head checked.

  174. rM teM says:

Like Willie said to Reggie when he was taking batting practice and looking bad…”take off the money belt”

  175. lil pelf says:

    three more that is

  176. miker94 says:

its a shame that our “ace” is the worst pitcher on the staff

  177. el_giacomo says:

    finally….

think that will be it for Johan tonight with the pitcher’s spot due up in the 5th? I rather hope so…

  178. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

There’s still time to pull this one out, but I think we all agree this is not Santana’s night. He needs to go, now.

  179. SantanaCYYOung says:

i can tell you why santana can’t get that illusive third strike: he does NOT have a third pitch and is throwing low 90s fastballs

  180. metsforever says:

Did the Red Sox and Yankees know something that Omar didn’t? This might be a long 6 years.

    • Wright88 says:

Yea a sub 3 era, how awful.

      • metsforever says:

It’s not so much the ERA. He is still very good. But 20MM good? Not so sure. It seems that he has lost the killer out pitch. Just one man’s opinion. He should really have 11 or 12 wins, but I haven’t seen the dominance I saw in Minnesota

  181. lil pelf says:

look on the bright side, the two best pitchers of the past decade or so are our 4th and 5th best pitchers

  182. SantanaCYYOung says:

let’s see if the mets revert to their old ways and go down 1-2-3 or their is some life in these bats!

  183. jimmyk456 says:

alright nick evans sour grapes baby sour grapes all day

  184. el_giacomo says:

alright alright alright, let’s get somethin’ goin here guys!

  185. skylog says:

hopefully he will state in the after game interviews that he didn’t do his job tonight, since he is always sure to declare when he does and his teammates do not.

i have to tell you, i love that the mets got johan, but it has been really tough for me to totally embrace him to this point. i am sure that will come with time, but he has seemed quite abrasive to me so far.

    • bkfitz says:

It would help him if the Mets actually had real corner OFs and not scrap heap veterans filling in.

  186. bkfitz says:

I’m willing to give Santana a bit of slack. He’s pitching on 8 days rest which is very rare for a pitcher to do, especially an ace.

    • John The Mets Fan says:

LOL….more babying of these free agent Cy Young winning pitchers?? Please…….

      Enough

  187. DavidDog says:

reyes is really playing like s**t

  188. Salz says:

    Santana:

    2007- 235/52 in 219

    2008- 116/38 in 130.2

  189. Darth Manuel says:

There is something wrong with Santana’s arm. Either that or he has lost his ability. I remember watching him a few years ago and he was untouchable. His fastball is down his has zero control and he constantly gets himself into these bases loaded innings. It would no surprise me if we soon hear about some arm/shoulder issue.

  190. John The Mets Fan says:

Santana needed to come out in the 2nd half with guns blazing and to be totally dominant. Anything less would be intolerable given the money he’s getting. 5 runs on 5 hits to the Reds and now he’s out after 4 innings??? I dont care if he’s Sandy F**ng Koufax and no matter how many days rest he had….this is inexcusable….

    • bkfitz says:

It’s one friggin start. He’s not going to dominate every single start. Expecting that is idiotic.

      • gipper82475 says:

Name several starts where he has dominated?

Other than one early in the year in Atl, where he got rogered by no run support?

        • therealsince86 says:

          I can give you 3.

        • gipper82475 says:

          Name them, please.

And, even if he’s had 3 dominant starts out of, what, 20 starts – is that really what we were expecting form the $20M man? Heck, Pelf can do that, Ollie is a pro at that, and Maine certainly can. You could get 2 or 3 pitchers who are capable of dominating 3 starts out of 20 for what we are paying Johan.

I’m just not sold on the guy.

        • therealsince86 says:

3 dominant starts, a bunch of above average and a few below average. I am not going to name them. Go look at his gamelog. He has had some nice games, especially some ones he lost.
And who cares how much we are paying him? He was the best available and we paid him like it. Luxury of a large market team.

  191. Salz says:

His K rate is down and his walks are up. This is usually a sign of a pitcher in decline. Hope it’s not true.

  192. metinDC23 says:

on a positive note- Evans got a hit off a right-hander- progress

  193. lil pelf says:

    big spot for david

  194. NYCESQ says:

IMO, I think some Met fans need to put things into perspective. Yes, Johan gets paid a ridiculous amount of money. Yes, it is more than anyone on this website has access to. HOWEVER, his salary is a product of the game. Baseball players in general are overpaid, as with most athletes. Yes, they are extremely talented for what they do, but think about what the league minimum is.

Just because someone gets paid 20 million a year, doesn’t mean they will throw a no hitter or shut out every time they pitch.

If he had run support in the first half, and was 12-4, would you still call him a “bust?”

    • metsforever says:

You are right, he deserves a better fate than the offense has provided, yet, he just doesn’t look like the guy from Minnesota. The bases are always loaded and he is always up to 100+ pitches by the 5th or 6th. Something seems off.

    • John The Mets Fan says:

Not asking for a no-hitter. But for petes sake, can you go at least 6 or 7 against the Reds? Surely thats not too much to ask for a “great 2nd half pitcher”??

Stop making excuses for this guy

    • tengobotas says:

Theyre going to have a couple of bad games here and honestly, this is going to be the test to see if the team really is turned around. Im with you, we cant get hysterical now because right now is when this team needs the most support. Theyre sensitive…

    • skylog says:

i would say most here are not calling him a bust, but even with his numbers, he has not looked like the pitcher everyone here has seen the past few years. he goes deep to what seems like every hitter, has been walking more people and not really put together dominant starts.

most here are not asking for no hitters or shutouts every time he pitches, as you put it, but man, perhaps one shutout per half a season?

  195. lil pelf says:

    alright!

  196. SantanaCYYOung says:

    big hit david you all-star

  197. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Yeah David!!

    That’s our All Star!

  198. MetsFan4Decades says:

DWright !! Well, that raises his batting average with RISP, doesn’t it????

  199. el_giacomo says:

    WRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  200. Danny1986 says:

    Dunn has a great arm.

  201. NY Cuban says:

2 back…Lets go Mets!!! Lets go ‘pen!

  202. DavidDog says:

thats a clutch hitter. thats an allstar. LETS GO BOYS!

  203. SantanaCYYOung says:

come on CB! let me tell you something, the mets before this streak would not have scored those runs

  204. SantanaCYYOung says:

ok, ok two runs and only one down and the mets bullpen…;et’s hope they stay hot

  205. cousinrk says:

Wow talk about Jekyl and Hyde. Get santana out of here? He’s lost it? Geez. The guy had a 2.80 ERA and 5th in K’s and had only allowed 3 HR’s in his last 10 starts yet he’s garbage?? Come on. Yes it was a rough start, but 8 days rest is not ideal and he’s always a second half pitcher. Don’t jump ship half way through the first game of the second half. Jeez!

    • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I don’t think anyone’s saying he’s done for the season. But keeping him in for this game would’ve been foolish. He didn’t have it tonight. He knows it, we know it, and Jerry Manuel knows it.

      • NYCESQ says:

I think there are several people on here that is saying that he is done. Which seriously makes me doubt their intelligence.

        • gipper82475 says:

I don’t think anybody said that. Many are concerned he may never be what he was in Minny and may never again be a DOMINANT type pitcher. And, it is fair to be concerned about that, given the investment this team has made.

    • Two-By-Four says:

Yes, those numbers are outstanding and I thought he was dominant in the ASG. :)

  206. John The Mets Fan says:

Where is everyone who talks about what a “great 2nd half” pitcher Santana is? Do they realize the date? Its July 17th, this IS the 2nd half…..and he’s had his worst start of the season. Gimme a break. What is it? Too cold for Santana in Cincy? Too hot? He cant pitch well at dusk?? For petes sake……

    • therealsince86 says:

Quiz what is his June and July ERA coming in to tonight?

    • ASod1975 says:

Wow….one bad start. Might as well release him and trade for, I don’t know…Joe “Never met a pizza I didn’t like” Blanton. Come on, man…

  207. SantanaCYYOung says:

elduque out after one inning in bingo tonight, right foot discomfort. i.e. his season is over before it ever began

  208. Tina says:

Crap. Something is wrong. 92 pitches is no reason to come out. He’s been walking very oddly all evening.

  209. Salz says:

I don’t get on Santana about “sucking” or having a bad win loss record because I know how silly that stat is. However, he hasn’t been as dominating for us as he was for years on the Twins. That disappoints me. He used to have a K/9 over 9. Now it’s not even 9. You expected his K’s to go up moving to the NL and a pitchers park. Instead it has gone down. What happened?

  210. cousinrk says:

Yeah its July 17th, its the second half, it must be a fluke this second half pitcher myth, its not like he has another 13 or 14 starts. One start must dispel all the talk about him being better in the last few months of the season. You got it. What was I thinking?

  211. Santa has lost alot of low scoring games. Lets bail him out tonight

  212. NYCESQ says:

    John the Mets fan,

I saw a line from Cole Hamels two weeks ago. He gave up 3 or 4 runs, with 10 hits. He was slapped around pretty well.

I suppose he isn’t an ace either. Seriously, what you are saying is absurd.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

I agree, its one bad game and he hasn’t had too many of them…but it is the second half and he is a second half pitcher

    • John The Mets Fan says:

What’s absurd is that you’re putting Cole Hamels in the same pot with Johan Santana…..

Surely you’re joking by making the comparison……..

  213. tengobotas says:

Well its good to see that Reyes has his head securely up his own ass again as well.

  214. SantanaCYYOung says:

good inning by muniz, i can’t believe i’m saying this but our leading hr hitter, delgado, is up and am excited to see him hit

  215. cousinrk says:

Reyes has his head up his as* again why?? Because he didn’t tag out Phillips soon enough in the run down play?

  216. playmaker3128 says:

Look even aces are going to have a couple bad starts a season.

However there has to be some concern right now, thing is someone noted his fastball is in the low 90’s. Well that was only on about half the fastballs he threw. Some of the others were only topping out at 88-89.

Idk if its his arm or not. In june he had some games where he was throwing around 93-94 with consistency and he talked about his fastball coming off his hand much better than at any point in the season. I don’t believe its his arm, its something mechanical, something thats causing the inconsistency, and he’s gonna have to fight his way through it. Great pitchers do that though, and i have no doubt he will as well.

That was a weird inning with muniz, still he did his job, kept the reds off the board. Lets score some more runs.

  217. Andrew says:

Fantastic heads-up play by Reyes there to get Phillips.

  218. Salz says:

if people are debating whether johan has been a disappointment, then hes been a disappointment. usually this is not the case with players who have normal expectations, but he was expected to be a dominant ace and he’s not. he’s been ace like, probably, but not vintage johan, and there’s absolutely no debate about that.

    • therealsince86 says:

Is Beltran a disappointment? It has to do with money. A lot of people are hung up on money.

      • Tina says:

Well then, a lot of people are idiots. They take what their agent can get them. Like any of you would do any different, given the chance.

But gosh, they’re mortal. What a betrayal.

        • gipper82475 says:

So, his reduced velocity, reduced K/9 – in the NL, no less!, etc don’t concern you at all?

I certainly don’t blame him for taking the money, and I liked the deal. Still, he’s hardly been as dominant as one would have hoped.

        • Tina says:

I’m not smart enough about these things (I’m not being sarcastic, I mean that sincerely) to know. But what I do know about star athletes, at whatever level, is that they believe, with an utter, absolute belief, that they can do it. Even when they demonstrably, to everyone else, can no longer do it. (Not saying that’s the case here, not by any stretch.) So to talk about the deal, as if it had ANY meaning at all, is ridiculous. He planned to come here and be a star. To pretend he’s, what? Taking our money under false pretenses? Ludicrous.

Also, he really looked to me to be walking strangely tonight. And 92 pitches is no reason to come out. I think he might have an issue.

    • NYCESQ says:

I agree to an extent, but just because “some” people say he is a disappointment, doesn’t mean they are thinking rationally.

But, I agree that he has not been Santana-like every start. Even still, he has been that more often than not.

  219. SantanaCYYOung says:

    come on tatis

  220. khmustache says:

    TATER!!!!!

  221. gipper82475 says:

    TATIS-ED!!!!!!!!

All we needed was to chase Johan, so the bats could wake up!

PS: What a joke of a ballpark.

  222. NYCESQ says:

Tatis must be on something. JK.

    Great story.

  223. BlueCapsOnly says:

    Yesssssssssssssssssss!

  224. DavidDog says:

    TA-TIS TA-TIS TA-TIS

  225. Salz says:

We expected Santana to have those games where he’d strikeout 11, 12 and give up 1 or 2 er at most… hasn’t happened.

    • skylog says:

exactly. not every start, not every other start, but just for them to happen. perhaps they will come the rest of the season, but given history, i do not think those expectations are anything but rational.

with everything there are the few who expect perfection, but again, i do not think that the majority here are calling him out for his lack of perfection, but for his lack of living up to what i think even johan would say are his standards.

    • therealsince86 says:

Lost a game against Arizona where he had 10 SO and gave up 0 runs and only 3 hits.

  226. dominicanboy08 says:

tatis come back player of the year!!

  227. JoseReyesForPresident says:

everything is tato tato with tatis!!!!

  228. c.1970 says:

Hmmm…dude’s got a big pair of Tatis, eh?

  229. teufelshuffle86 says:

You can’t ignore the fight this team has had in them the last few weeks. If this game were played in April it would have been over in the 4th. Now get Muniz out of the game and lets win this!!!!!

  230. DavidDog says:

DAMN THIS TEAM IS HITTING! tatis WAS a 30 hr guy at one point, either he was as juiced up as barry or this isnt all that incredible. granted, he cant stay THIS hot, but a serviceable tatis is a heck of a 7 hitter

  231. therealsince86 says:

I thought someone used that ole saying that we are looking lifeless out there. Now all of a sudden we are full of life. I wonder if it has anything to do with winning and losing?

  232. teufelshuffle86 says:

This team is fun to watch again. :D

  233. DavidDog says:

I remember Affelt from KC, great curve, notorious loser

  234. TeufelsNails says:

this is the kind of game where our light out (gulp) bullpen steps up

  235. cousinrk says:

Well our expectations were too high, because he’s a max 7 inning pitcher the last few years. He’s not a 9 inning 12 K guy. I’ll take 7 innings 2 runs 7 K’s on a regular basis. Is that worth 139 mill, no one is worth that. But on a team that scores runs and plays defense he’ll win 17-20 with those numbers. And its not like the money is going to hinder any future acquisitions, so stop getting so hung up on how good he should be based off of money.

  236. AngryFan says:

I know this is unpopular….but Johan looks like he’s got a case of Robbie Alomar disease.

  237. MetsFan4Decades says:

Whoever said it first….you are absolutely right. If this was even a month ago, when the Mets lost the lead they would have laid down and died. Now…they’ve got that confidence they can come back, and damn, that’s exactly what they did.

  238. DavidDog says:

honestly, dunn looks like he belongs on the scottish highlands, presiding over a heard of goats

  239. SantanaCYYOung says:

come on an easy 1-2-3 inning here

  240. playmaker3128 says:

This is creating an interesting dilemma for Omar. Lets just say church is gonna come back in a week and tatis is still hitting the way he is. If your omar do you still make a move, knowing that if you don’t and tatis goes back into a slump that itll be past the deadline.

If the above was the case i’d stand pat. If we can get a team like cinci to give us a guy like dunn for some low level prospects maybe we do it. Church is the key though as gary kind of hinted earlier, if he’s back it would allow us to use tatis, endy, and maybe even give fmart some AB’s if we choose to do so.

    • therealsince86 says:

I would pick up a junk guy like Nelson Cruz until everyone is healthy.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

And that key is going to be Church coming back healthy enough to play just about every day – with a very short time frame to actually find that out, before the trade deadline.

What to do? What to do?

      • therealsince86 says:

That is again why you pick up maybe’s now and see what happens and if you need to make the big deal make it on the 31st.

    • Tina says:

I like him. He knows how to play. For whatever reason, he didn’t get it together before. But it seems like he’s got it now.

  241. therealsince86 says:

Guys if we scored 4 runs everytime Johan started he would be 15-4. The guy is not dominant every start but with the exception of a start or two he has put us into position to win EVERY game he has started. This is the 1st game of the season that he has given up more than 5 ER’s.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

Seattle is another, i don’t care that the 4 were unearned, they were still 5 runs, but he should have a better records and overall (including tonight) i give him a solid B. But, if you see by my screenname i wanted cy young…oh well

    • 911nafstem says:

The problem is, to be considered an ace and not just a very good pitcher, you have to give up 1 when your team scores 2 sometimes.

      • therealsince86 says:

Well ace is such a misunderstood term. Is he the ace of our staff? If so then he is an ace.
Is he one of the top 5 in the NL this season? Not so far.

  242. SantanaCYYOung says:

who didn’t see that one coming?

  243. Tina says:

I’m dying. The Cinci broadcaster just said, and this is a direct quote: “That’s the first time tonight that’s been called a strike. I know it’s right down the heart of the plate, but…”

I didn’t see the pitch (I’m working, and the game is in the background.) I suppose it may have been a bit low. Still, hilarious.

  244. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Feliciano makes me nervous lately. Hope I’m wrong.

  245. 911nafstem says:

I HATE Feliciano in these situations

  246. SantanaCYYOung says:

    nice

  247. NYCESQ says:

I REALLY hope Church comes back. If he is healthy, maybe we go after a 5th starter instead?

I hear Liriano is filing a grievance for being sick in the Minors. Will Minnesota try and get rid of one of their pitchers on the cheap? Prob not.

  248. NYCESQ says:

    *stuck

    • gipper82475 says:

I like your thinking, but doubt that we will know if Church will be back to stay, given the nebulous nature of post-concussion syndrome before the deadline. In which case, a corner OF bat is the priority for when Tatis’s lightening seeps out of the bottle.

      • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

You know, everybody keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop with Tatis, but I’m willing to at least entertain the idea that he will continue playing well for the remainder of the season.

If what he’s on right now is a streak, you’ve gotta admit it’s been a reasonably long one. Maybe he’s here to stay.

        • gipper82475 says:

I’d love that – and certainly hope so, but do you want to bet the rest of the season on it with a questionable Church return? I don’t.

          That said, it is possible.

        • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Oh, yeah, agreed. I wouldn’t bet the farm on it. But speaking of farms, I’m not sure I would trade ours away, either.

It’s a genuine pickle for Mr. Minaya. Hope he guesses right.

  249. 911nafstem says:

    Come on Pedro, one more

  250. MetsFan4Decades says:

    O.K., exhaling now…..

  251. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Only a little drama this time from Pedro.

Proved me wrong, and I’m cool with that.

  252. Nightlife says:

Beautiful scoop and throw in by Dunn on that Anderson basehit. This guys does it all.

    :)

  253. Nightlife says:

These Reds announcers are really out of the loop. They just said “the rumors are Richie Sexson going to the Mets.”

    • khmustache says:

wow…the yanks got him before lunch today…it’s amazing how broadcasters can get away with such little research…

    • therealsince86 says:

Think we were all over that one? These guys have to at LEAST watch a little sportscenter before the game right?

      • Nightlife says:

Or at least the producers would, you know, fill them in and have someone back there doing a little research.

  254. therealsince86 says:

Wow the Cinn guys are talking about how well Sexson would fit on our roster and it’s rumored that we are getting him. ?

  255. DavidDog says:

didnt the yanks just sign sexton? the idiots on the reds broadcast are sayin “rumor has it that Sexson will sign with the mets to platoon with delgado at 1st base”…. speechless

  256. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Maybe the Yanks are planning on turning him over, like a real estate investment.

  257. stickguy says:

some of us where concerned back in the off season that Santana had peaked, and likely his best years where behind him. Not that he was going to be bad, just that he wasn’t going to replicate the Cy Young year dominance. And I think that is what he have seen.

He does seem to need that punch outpitch. Whether it is the 95 MPH FB, or the slider, but he doesn’t seem to be able to put people away, and that leads to the high pitch counts.

Today he looked off. Not good stuff, poor control (especially for him). From the commetns about the limp, maybe something is bothering him (hip? Groin? Knee?) If so, that certainly explains his problems tonight, since the legs drive the mechanics and the “stuff”

  258. DavidDog says:

they also said something along the lines of “who’s gonna be the key guy for the mets in the 2nd half? I think it’s David Wright…Beltran and Delgado are gonna be who they are, but Wright really needs to start driving in runs like when he first came up”…

    ???????????

    • khmustache says:

didn’t he drive in 2 today? thank god for gary keith and ron.

    • Nightlife says:

Yeah that was a ridiculous comment. Do they know he had a career year last year and is having a pretty good one this year as well?

      • DavidDog says:

he’ll probably hit the usual 300 with 115 rbis, and those guys make it sound like he’s in a 2-year slump… these guys deserve their money less than santana

    • 911nafstem says:

Beltran’s the key, he was the invisible man the first half

      • DavidDog says:

Delgado’s the key, I’ve said that since he arrived in NY, it’s his last chance to win. Is the only true super-slugger on the team

    • hyperion4 says:

He didn’t say “drive in runs,” he said “drive the ball to the opposite field.” I think Wright is doing fine, but it’s true that he hasn’t gone the other way quite as often this season.

  259. 911nafstem says:

Mets are going to need more runs

  260. the Straw says:

how can you say wagner has been money in the bank…to me he has been anything but….these announcers are awful. they dont know anything.

  261. stickguy says:

why can’t Tatis keep it up? He is healthy, and getting PT. Plus, he certainly raked for 2 years in AAA, so it isn’t like this is coming out of nowhere.

I personally am liking what I see out of Evans too. Would have no problem with him getting regualr time if they didn’t give it to Tatis.

Church of course is the key. If he does come back (and stays back!), then a RF of Tatis/Evans/Pagan/Chavez will get it done.

If you are worried about it, then get the 2nd teir guy (Rivera, Cruz, whatever), just as long s it is cheap, prospect wise.

And man, the Reds TV guys are in love with Heilman!

  262. NYCESQ says:

    Heilman looks GOOD.

  263. khmustache says:

nice point by cohen….what if the mets had called tatis up last september? i’d take him over shawn green…

  264. toomanyuniforms says:

Hey, what’d I miss? Finally, run support for Santana! Which bullpen ne’er-do-well let in all the runs?

    Dunn do anything? Guy sucks.

    • khmustache says:

most runs after santana left…santana charged with 5 earned…tatis and delgado homered, wright with 2 rbi’s

      • toomanyuniforms says:

Ah — was joking. . . . But I really was away, and actually didn’t know someone had let in inherited Santana runners. . . . So, thanks.

Incidentally, this is precisely my problem with Santana. Get small lead, cough up small lead.

  265. teufelshuffle86 says:

I think Dusty is making a mistake leaving the righty in to hit. We’ll see what happens.

  266. teufelshuffle86 says:

    THROW STIKES AARON!!!!!!!!!!!

  267. 911nafstem says:

Like I said, the Mets are going to need more runs.

  268. 911nafstem says:

In retrospect it probably wasn’t the best idea intentionally walking Votto with 2 outs

  269. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I think the intentional walk was a mistake. But who knows?

    Time for the Scho Show!

  270. metsfanatic says:

I don’t like walking the go ahead run. Now he is at second base.

  271. TeufelsNails says:

    o god…no beanball please

  272. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on, Shoe – you can get this out here.

  273. 911nafstem says:

There’s the Gary jinx we know and love

  274. teufelshuffle86 says:

Pitch sequence here should be sinker, sinker, sinker, fastball, sinker. Get us a ground ball here Scho!

  275. 911nafstem says:

    Schoen’t let me down!

  276. DavidDog says:

    o god. very tense moment

  277. 911nafstem says:

I don’t trust Schneider to block hard sinkers

  278. DavidDog says:

Reds announcer: “Schoenweis is a strikeout machine: 37 innings 19 strikeouts”

  279. teufelshuffle86 says:

God Javier looks a lot like his brother.

  280. therealsince86 says:

How is 37 innings and 19 SO a strike out machine? These guys don’t like facts do they?

  281. khmustache says:

    damn

  282. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Crap.

  283. metsfanatic says:

    Fire Willie! Oh wait…..

  284. MetsFan4Decades says:

    This is not good…….

  285. SantanaCYYOung says:

two out and nobody on and this

  286. 911nafstem says:

    oh well

  287. therealsince86 says:

Well that’s great. No Show tonight.

  288. 911nafstem says:

    All with 2 freaking outs

  289. CaseStreet says:

We should’ve traded Heilman and Show when we had the chance

  290. teufelshuffle86 says:

That IBB was the killer. Should have pitched to Votto.

  291. stickguy says:

should have left Heilmann in to face Valentin.

Although the Reds tv guys did call Schoe a “strikeout machine”. Maybe they meant when batting?

OK< who had Schoe in the pool for the guy who gives up the back breaking hit?

Actually, blame it on Heilman, for walking the RH Ross. THat was the game right there.

    • therealsince86 says:

You can’t blame him for taking out Heilman, he was struggling after getting the first two outs easy.

  292. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

In fairness, it was a pretty good pitch.

We still have some time, though. And Jose hasn’t done anything yet — he’s due.

  293. dykstraw II says:

who gives up three runs after two are out? disgusting!

  294. therealsince86 says:

Well the good news is that we still have 2 more innings to go. Man the Red’s announcers are acting like they have already won.

  295. DavidDog says:

ok, let’s do it one more time…

  296. AngryFan says:

6 runs is enough to win…..if your starter is competent.

So of course we had Johan.

    Typical

  297. SantanaCYYOung says:

have the mets come back from a 3 run defecit to win yet?

  298. lovemymets says:

Well, at least we can’t blame Wagner tonight.

  299. khmustache says:

david weathers! my favorite mediocre ex-met middle reliever ever!

  300. therealsince86 says:

I still love the new Delgado but you have to move the runner there.

  301. SantanaCYYOung says:

when was the last time schneider had a big hit?

  302. MetsFan4Decades says:

wow. Pitching around Tatis. Who would have thought?

  303. therealsince86 says:

    I smell a DP guys.

  304. stickguy says:

Delgado still can’t handle an 87mph inside FB.

I thought Weathers was a tall, skinny pasty white guy. Guess not!

  305. SantanaCYYOung says:

    no pinch hitters for evans?

  306. lovemymets says:

    Can we beat Cordero?

  307. AngryFan says:

Pwned by Stormy Weathers. Pretty disgusting actually.

    Schneider was non-competitive

  308. therealsince86 says:

    You can’t hit those pitches.

  309. mrosey says:

I tried to post this 20 minutes ago but my computer wasnt able to make a link to the site, anybody have similar problems?

GENIUS JERRY ONCE AGAIN. I love the decision to intentionally walk. . . Joey Votto? COME ON JERRY!!!! THERES TWO OUTS! DON’T PUT THE GO AHEAD RUN ON BASE!

This guy may have a good record as manager. But it ain’t him thats gotten us on track. If anything, hes been the only thing thats brought us down.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

The guy has been great for the clubhouse. He makes one questionable move and you’re ready to hang the guy already? News flash, this team wasn’t going to go undefeated the rest of the season. The streak had to end sometime. Under the old regime this team would have mailed the rest of this game in after the 4th. Can’t win every game.

  310. SantanaCYYOung says:

i don’t think its happening tonight. turning point is having two outs and NONE on and the reds proceed to score three runs, unreal.

  311. stickguy says:

oh well. Maybe the top of th eorder will come alive and do it in the 9th? If not, time to start anoght winning streak tomorrow!

  312. Nightlife says:

Not saying it changed the outcome of the game, but holy crap this umpire is bad. Watching the game then checking Gameday comfirms he has made some very horrible calls.

  313. therealsince86 says:

This is a big hold coming up right here. It is the top of the order for us coming up so we do still have a chance.

  314. kd bart says:

    Wow.

It doesn’t take much for people to turn on this team.

  315. Nightlife says:

This game would normally make me upset, but they just won 9 straight so I’ll just finish this beer and be straight up relaxed.

    • tengobotas says:

Eh this is easy to deal with, were at least competing to win. After watching them sleepwalk through loses earlier this season and not even try to climb back in, ill take a 8-6 loss any day.

Cincinnati has a good home record anyway.

      • teufelshuffle86 says:

Agreed, We weren’t going to win 25 in a row. If we are going to lose I’ll take an 8-6 loss. Santana didn’t have it tonight and that was the difference. If hypothetically the Mets made the playoffs and they started tomorrow Santana would be a #3 starter.

  316. khmustache says:

why can’t we post a comment with a certain jr sluggers name in it?

  317. therealsince86 says:

And we were worried about Dunn being worse than Tatis in the OF. Man that was terrible.

  318. DavidDog says:

well today the pitching let us down, and i totally agree that was the stupidest call by Manuel to intentionally walk the guy… Unbelievable though, even if the offense overall did its job, this team just doesnt win when Reyes doesn’t get on base

  319. khmustache says:

who’s the conditioning coach for the reds? this is the fattest big league club i’ve ever seen

  320. the Straw says:

2 run game…can we all agree that if jose gets on, you pinch hit with Castro. if reyes doesnt get on, you pinch hit with argentis.

  321. SantanaCYYOung says:

have the mets come back from a 3 run + defeci to win all year?

  322. SantanaCYYOung says:

now the ump is calling those strikes

  323. SantanaCYYOung says:

say goodbye to the win streak

  324. therealsince86 says:

    Terrible game for Reyes.

  325. tengobotas says:

    BOOYA

  326. khmustache says:

    YUEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

  327. gipper82475 says:

    Wooo hooo.

Called it! Here on my couch with nobody around….but still, called it!

  328. MetsFan4Decades says:

    DWright !! I can’t believe it !!
Don’t try and tell us this is over. These are the new NY Mets….

  329. NYCESQ says:

Damn these Mets. We are gonna win!

  330. el_giacomo says:

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs

  331. Wright88 says:

and the bandwagon fills up again

  332. DavidDog says:

    YEAHHHHH!!!!!

  333. teufelshuffle86 says:

Not my genis, not your genis, but argenis!

  334. teufelshuffle86 says:

    HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  335. the Straw says:

Here we go….you a-holes spoke too soon….the streak is not over yet!!!!!!

  336. stickguy says:

Alou and Hernandez had setbacks intheir rehab. Pagan too.

Can Castillo please just do the same thing?

Reyes and Easley are just fine for the rest of the years.

DW! Baby! Even better, he smoked it to right.

and the umps didn’t even gather to overturn it!

Lets get another run here. THere pretty much is no one left in the pen at this pint.

  337. DavidDog says:

Lets win it Wright here… how’s that for goin the other way, Brentley?

  338. therealsince86 says:

THIS IS NOT THE SAME METS FROM BEFORE.
Please stop with the negative comments as soon as we are down.

  339. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Woooohoooooo!!!!

  340. khmustache says:

on another note, 10 years ago there’s no way jr lets that one go

    • tengobotas says:

Yeah I lived in Seattle for a while years ago and he was fantastic to watch play.

    • therealsince86 says:

He would have had to take it away from Jake the real fat man because it looked like it hit off his gut.

  341. kd bart says:

Some of you must have skidmarks all over the floors of your living rooms.

  342. MetsFan4Decades says:

    And here we come.
    Easley is the man !!

  343. gipper82475 says:

    Great job by Easley there.

  344. stickguy says:

Did the math. Smith is still available. Still, not a good day for a 15 inning game! Hey, DW might get to pitch after all.

    • the Straw says:

dont want to get ahead of ourselves but…i think they should consider pelfrey for a couple innings if needed.

  345. el_giacomo says:

nice nice nice job beltran & easley!

  346. gipper82475 says:

    Elevate, Carlos, elevate!!!

  347. cousinrk says:

On a side note, Why would you name your kid Dick, if his last name is Pole?? And if its Richard, why call yourself Dick….and now back to the game

  348. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Try the squeeze here??

  349. therealsince86 says:

Need this. Just no DP or strikeout.

  350. stickguy says:

now, can Delgado get the ball into the OF far enough to score the run? Just please, no DP

  351. Nightlife says:

    FUUUUUUUUUUU cccc

What happened? I go outside for a few minutes and the game is tied.

    AAAHH!!

  352. SantanaCYYOung says:

    wow, wow, wow

  353. j_k says:

    Delga-YES

  354. Nightlife says:

    YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

  355. el_giacomo says:

    YEAH BABY!

  356. gipper82475 says:

Delgado went the other way to drive in a runner from 3rd with less than 2 outs?

    It’s officially bizzaro-world.

    Love it!

  357. cousinrk says:

Get that man a pickup on his option. WOW!

  358. DavidDog says:

And Delgadp goes the other way!!!!

    Enter Blow-Man

  359. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Delgado = clutch !!!!
    Who would have thought.
    Keith ‘They’re not through’

You bet your you know what !!!!

  360. therealsince86 says:

    That a boy Delgado.
Where is that guy that said at least we can’t blame Wagner.
    Wagner time baby.

  361. Tina says:

This is a whole new team.

  362. kd bart says:

    Delgado hit a tough pitch.

    Great job!!!

  363. teufelshuffle86 says:

    YAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

  364. the Straw says:

Jerry’s kids are playing great ball.

OK Wags, this is a huuuuge spot for you to close the game. Dont F$#K up!

  365. NYCESQ says:

Ok, Tatis is NOT a fluke.

  366. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Isn’t that just like Cordero, blowing a save like that?

    HAHAHAHAHA

  367. SuperSchlong says:

To paraphrase Morpheus from The Matrix: “They’re beginning to believe”

  368. SantanaCYYOung says:

i haen’t seen this in a very long time!!!!!

  369. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Tatis!
I’m getting real tired of hearing the sports analysts say he’s a nice little player that can’t possible sustain this offense….

  370. el_giacomo says:

    ohhhhhhh yeah!

  371. khmustache says:

    I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!

  372. dykstraw II says:

    much happier now!

    batman time!

  373. cousinrk says:

Wow, where has this team been the last year? Wherever they’ve been, welcome back.

    • the Straw says:

well they under the rock called willie randolph….but now jerry has unleashed the beast.

  374. SuperSchlong says:

This is the most exhilarating Met game in two years!

If they win this game, there is no game they cannot win.

  375. The .500 Club says:

    I’m sorry Carlos!!!!

THIS TEAM IS SO EXCITING, ITS 2006 ALL OVER AGAIN!!

  376. DavidDog says:

o what a game! best game of the year! im in love with baseball again… it’s gonna be a very unproductive aummer/fall for me…

  377. Nightlife says:

    BIZARRO METS!!!!

  378. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Wooooooooo!!!!

Could anyone have predicted the Mets scoring 4 runs in the 9th, down two, to win their 10th straight back in May?

Hell nah!!! This is the team we’ve been waiting for!

  379. gipper82475 says:

    Cordero pulled a Wagner!

  380. Jay says:

Looks like we’re not the only team with a crappy closer huh???

  381. j_k says:

It really feels like Delgado must have been injured, or just not mentally adjusting to his slowing hands. You really wonder if the Mets will pay him next year – there seriously could not be a bigger turnaround for a player, it’s unbelievable how different he is for this team right now. For all that has been said about “lack of heart,” we’ve been lacking his bat more than anything else.

    • Ryn05 says:

If he keeps it up throughout the second half, you have to give him another year.

      That’s a huge IF though.

    • therealsince86 says:

His power is in his wrist and every time they get healthy he breaks one again. Look at his 2nd half numbers last year. Not bad at all. Then what happens in the last game?

    • hyperion4 says:

I agree. It’s really amazed me that Delgado’s gotten those quick hands back. I thought they were gone, history.

  382. uppertank says:

10 runs. 10 straight wins. heilman still sucks! :)
keep them coming. don’t wanna see wagner’s ugly face.

  383. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

OK, I don’t want to jinx anything, but you all realize, I hope, that Philly isn’t playing today, so if we win this one, we are TIED FOR FIRST PLACE in the division.

  384. SantanaCYYOung says:

    one more ramon

  385. mr.gee21 says:

  387. SantanaCYYOung says:

iwould feel so so much better with one more run

  388. cousinrk says:

I knew the combination of Delgado, Easley and Tatis 5,6,7 would get us where we’d need to be. Come on, who couldn’t have predicted that?

  389. SantanaCYYOung says:

    heart attack time!

  390. Nightlife says:

I have to turn MLB.tv off when Wagner comes in–especially if I have to listen to the home team’s broadcasters. Saves me a lot of frustration when I just see “in Play (Runs)” instead of “AND THIS GAME IS TIED!!!” Followed by “AND HES COMING HOME, WALK OFF VICTORY THEYVE DONE IT!!!!!!!!!”

  391. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Lets finish it off.

  392. stickguy says:

I am in shock here. How did Delgado do that?

Now, blow this open and pile on the runs. IOW, Wagner proof this baby!

2 runs lead. Not really wagner proof, but it’s better than a 1 run. Really wish they had at least pushed the 11th over, but let’s not get too greedy!

  393. MetsFan4Decades says:

    It’s Billy time.
    Holding my breath here…..

  394. uppertank says:

The replay showed Wright’s HR hit a fat guy in the stands and then bounced back onto the field. Time to look at Wagner’s ugly face…

  395. mr.gee21 says:

    ONE down.

  396. SantanaCYYOung says:

    one out!!

  397. kendychavez says:

if countrytime blows this i’m going to his farm to slaughter all his al paca

  398. teufelshuffle86 says:

How does Wagner still only have one loss?

  399. mr.gee21 says:

    TWO down.

  400. MetsFan4Decades says:

Damn. These commercials are too long. Just about missed that first out.

  401. mr.gee21 says:

  410. mrosey says:

  412. teufelshuffle86 says:

  413. kendychavez says:

alright billyboy, your al paca are safe… for now

  414. DavidDog says:

what a day for a daydream

  415. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Wow.

    Speechless.

That was a thing of beauty.

  416. SantanaCYYOung says:

mets score 10 runs and j. reyes was 0-5, and our ace was bad

  417. cousinrk says:

Tomorrow 11 in a row. Both Mets championship seasons they had 11 game winning streaks.

  418. jamie says:
