poor guy tough break
Un-expletive deleted-believeable. Hoping for Trot Nixon to be back soon.
Raul Ibanez…whats it gonna take???
Seriously, if we don’t get another outfielder, we’re dead. Tatis and Chavez have been playing well, but what if either of them gets injured? Or what if Tatis is really Richard Hidalgo? We need someone, even if it’s just depth for the outfield.
Not trying to sound too harsh, but I think this is probably a good thing. No chance that we try to rely on Pagan to play LF for the rest of the year no, and we almost certainly will go out and get Randy Winn or Matt Murton now. Pagan stinks anyway, IMO. He has some nice ability, but a horrible baseball IQ. Cubs fans I know were very glad to be shot of him.
Has he been re-habbing with Alou? Geesh. We have a DL all-star team.
Pagan is an all star? He is a fringe major leaguer.
I swear something similar to this was reported like a month ago, or at least the surgery part.
I remember that too…did he try to play through the pain and in the end just couldn’t do it? If thats the case, I give the guy props for trying.
It’s time to get serious about getting another outfielder.
DOH…are Ibanez and Dunn really the only realistic options, i want neihter,,,
So much for the Pagan savior.
dunn’s OBP would be the highest on the team. he’d probably lead us in HR too. you don’t want that…?
Why do you think those are the only realistic options? Winn, Murton, Rivera, Dejesus, there are other options. I would love Dunn. The guy is one of the best producers in the game every year. He just is a different type of player so the majority of people don’t like him. He has a huge OBP and SLG every year though, and really those are the 2 numbers that matter most for a middle of the order guy, not BA. Plus it would allow Beltran to slot into the 2 hole. I would prefer a right handed bat or switch hitter though, which is why I like Rivera/Winn/Murton. Plus those guys should come relatively cheap and just because they arent all stars doesnt mean they cant help us.
Is the really such a big deal? We already have Angel Pagan – his name is Endy Chavez, only he’s a better fielder.
I’d love to add Casey Blake. He’s pretty versatile, he’s a good hitter, and I doubt he’d be too expensive.
We’re getting Nady.
No we arent. No chance at Nady. That would be a horrible buy high move if they did. Juan Rivera is the same player, probably a bit better, who can be had for much cheaper because his value is low. But if we picked up Juan Rivera… people would probably just say he stinks and that Omar is racist against white people and will sign any Latino he can. Sigh.
BTW, is the torn labrum a “new” injury or are we just finding out now that this is the injury he’s had all along?
Man that stinks. The Mets should play in a bubble
I know all the future GM’s on this site will ridicule me but making a move for Mel Mora is something worth exploring. Any fans around in 1999 know he can play the OF. How much can it cost to get a 36 year old batting 235. To me his intangibles and 12 HR and 50 RBI are enough to give up a Carp, Murphy or Evans.
He knows how to play the game and at worst he can play 3rd in 2009 because Wright will ultimately be at 1B.
If he wants to stay with Angelos, God speed.
I agree. People around here have the idea that if he isn’t a superstar player, then why bother. Mora is a solid player that has played here before and he is versatile. More importantly, he is an everyday guy that you can trust to just make the routine plays, and be a professional. He is not a guy you worry about. I agree, I would take Melvin back. It does not have to be Holliday, Bay, or bust. There are other ways to improve your team.
Angel wants a second opinion to repair a labrum tear and he plays sports? I only question this because I have a torn labrum and I’m in physical therapy 3 times a week for 18 weeks. At the end of the session the doctor will decide if I need surgery and I DON’T play sports!
If Angel doesn’t repair his tear, he will be on and off the DL list for the rest of his career. The pain is in your shoulder and forearm. You also lose arm movement because of the location in the shoulder joint.
I just lost some arm movement I got back from therapy because I was throwing a kickball over my head against the garage. It took a week of rehab to regain the movement, not to mention the pain I went through.
Oh yeah…did I mention I don’t play sports! I do play guitar and it hurts my forearm just to play chords.
Pedro had fraying on his labrum when he signed with the Mets. The Mets were the only team to give him a 4 year deal because of the fraying. The Red Sox were afraid he would end up with a torn labrum. Well, were they wrong! As we all know, Pedro tore his rotator cuff.
Maybe Angel should get his second opinion from Pedro :)
Thanks for listening because I’m no doctor.
Patti
Oops, my mistake, the pain is in your bicep muscle;not forearm. Sorry!
What about Kevin Mench? Since the Mets have next to nothing to trade, he could be had for very little from Toronto. He’s had some good years, and he’s only 30 years old. If he pans out, he could be useful for a few years as a right handed bat. Why not take a shot at him?
