Speaking with reporters after today’s win against the Reds, Jerry Manuel said Billy Wagner was experiencing cramping in his shoulder, which began while Wagner was warming up in the bullpen.
Wagner, who will have a precautionary MRI on Monday, told reporters his shoulder has been bothering him for the last two weeks, but is not worried about his condition.
…as i wrote in the postgame, despite waiving off the trainer and striking out the side in the ninth, wagner did not look comfortable out on the mound, especially after throwing a breaking ball…
..cross your fingers…

With the Mets win and Phillies loss to the Marlins, the Mets are again tied for first in the NL East standings.

- Mike Pelfrey, like the Reds’ Edison Volquez, seemed a bit perturbed by the home plate umpire Paul Schrieber’s small strikezone. Despite giving up 3 HRs over his seven innings pitched, Pelfrey looked in control and never seem to lose confidence in his stuff.
- Jose Reyes finally stopped hitting pop-ups and had a big day, going 4-for-6 with a triple. Reyes’ 63rd triple of his career broke the Mets franchise record of 62 triples set by Mookie Wilson. Congrats Jose.
- Carlos Delgado continues to rake, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. He is batting .419 during the month of July.
- Despite the Mets getting the win and scoring seven runs, they continue to squander opportunities to score runs be leaving a total of 30 men on base in the last two games, including 14 during today’s game.
- Speaking of squandered opportunities, I like that Carlos Beltran is being aggressive on the base paths, but he must use a bit more judgment when trying to steal third. It might have cost the Mets, but luckily it didn’t.
- Reds C Paul Bako looks like Andrew McCarthy from the Weekend at Bernie’s films.
- Marlon Anderson may be the worst outfielder in the league.
- The Reds’ Brandon Phillips and Edwin Encarnacion sure do love to showboat when they hit homeruns. Karma got them both in the 10th when they blundered a possible double-play that lead to the go-ahead run scoring.
- Billy Wagner was dominant picking up his 24 save of season. Even though he waived off the trainer and breezed through the inning he didn’t look comfortable on the mound today.
The Mets resume play on Tuesday against the Phillies at Shea Stadium with Johan Santana facing Joe Blanton.

Tagged Mike Nichols, Pedro Martinez |The Mets (52-46) lost to the Reds (48-51) by the score of 7 to 2 tonight in Cincinnati tonight.
With the loss and Phillies loss, the Mets continue to trail the Phillies by one game in the NL East standings.
For a recap, boxscore, stats, etc., go to SNY.tv.
- Oliver Perez improvised his way through six innings allowing three runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out six. Perez seemed to have so much confidence coming into the game he started throwing from various arm angles while showing Reds hitters a hesitation move.
- The Mets offense had many chances tonight put crooked numbers on the board, but failed to get the big hit especially in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. The Mets left a total of 16 men on base tonight.
- Not sure what David Wright and Carlos Beltran were looking at when they both stuck out looking in the seventh inning with the bases loaded.
- Speaking of Wright, he was 3-for-4 with a homerun, coming a triple shy of the cycle.
- I’ll never understand why pitchers continue the fake to third, look to first move. It never works, unless, of course, your name is Turk Wendell.
The Mets look to split their series with the Reds as Mike Pelfrey (8-6, 3.64 ERA) faces off against the Reds’ Edison Volquez (12-3, 2.29 ERA) today at 1:15 pm.
