Looks like the newly signed ‘invisible guy’ is hitting 5th. :D

Gotta win today. They need to go into the Philly series on a high note.

    LETS GO METS!!!

  2. KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

OT: SNY NEEDS New talent….like badly….Mark Malusis, Jonas Schwartz, and Gary Apple is like hell on earth….the only thing worse might be adam schein and chris carlin…I hate them all…it’s unjustifiable to subject new york to this dreck….I’m gonna vomit now….

    • KinersKornerman says:

Bring in Alou, Pedro, Nixon and Church. They can do SOMETHING to earn a paycheck. More Harold Reynolds, please.

    • shannon says:

      I basically agree with you…

    • John The Mets Fan says:

Mets have won 8 of their last 10 games, including a franchise-tying 10 game winning streak, Pelfrey is emerging as a good, home-grown pitcher, not to mention the mets have pulled their season from the brink of disaster to overtaking the Phillies in the division……….and YOU”RE worried about the television personalities on SNY??

      Er…..um…ok…

  3. dominicanboy08 says:

castro needs to play more!, schneider and castillo are the rally killers of this team

  4. Very weak lineup…interesting….let’s see if we can force Volquez into a high pitch count early in the heat.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I have more confidence in Big Pelf on the mound lately than any other Met pitcher. If anyone can keep us in the game, he can. Here’s hoping this lineup can get something done.

Manual is just trying to keep a team fielded with what they’ve given him to work with. 3 season ending injuries to the OF right now? Have my fingers crossed Church is not added to this list.

Reyes, Castillo, Wright, Beltran, Church, Delgado, Alou, Schneider……this was the starting 8 on paper coming out of spring training. I think we’ve seen this actual lineup like twice this season. It’s a miracle we’re still in the race. Have to give credit to the subs…..

  5. MetsFan4Decades says:

Stop with the Bonds signing already. Just exactly how much ground do you want Beltran to cover out in the outfield????

Besides all the obvious, there is no way his bat (and that would be a ? mark at this point, having not played since last Sept), would negate the zero ability to cover any ground, have any range in the OF.

We need to come up with something better than Bonds for the OF……

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Sorry, obviously, this comment should have been posted in the NL East today post, which is what I was reading but somehow got posted here……

    • KinersKornerman says:

      Randy Winn, anyone?

      • dominicanboy08 says:

I think we need more power than that

        • KinersKornerman says:

Power is a tough commodity to get my friend. I’d be happy with an everyday corner OF who is consistent.

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

I agree, at least for the rest of this season. And God I hope there is a Church sighting soon. If his earlier play is any indication, this is EXACTLY who we need out there right now……

  6. dominicanboy08 says:

is schneider a free agent at the end of the year? cuz I dont want to see him in 2009. he is horrible with the bat. anyone knows the free agents catchers for 2009?

    • Hernandez_1B says:

Would you relax with Schneider already. Castro has shown time and time again that he can not play on a regular basis because he can not stay healthy. Schneider has done a decent job with the bat. He is our 8th hitter. Not everyone in the line up can hit 300. He is in there for his defense and game calling. If this team was healthy all year we wouldn’t even be having this discussion about Schneider’s offense. I like Castro but he is not an everyday catcher.

      • dominicanboy08 says:

I am not saying that he should hit 300, but he wont even have 50 RBI this year. I think thats the production we all expected from schneider.

        • KinersKornerman says:

His career high is 55 RBI. Why would expect him to bring in loads of runners from the 8-hole?

In the NL, unless you have Russell MArtin or Brian McCann, your catcher is not a major bat.

        • khmustache says:

you can add geovany soto to that list as well

        • KinersKornerman says:

          stache. good to see ya.
Props to you for an excellent catch. no pun intended.

        • khmustache says:

likewise my friend…and don’t give me too much credit on that one, i’m just parroting sportscenter

    • KinersKornerman says:

      Rod Barajas (33)
      Michael Barrett (32)
      Johnny Estrada (33)
Jason Kendall (35) – club option for ‘09; vests with 110 games played in ‘08
      Paul Lo Duca (37)
      Miguel Olivo (30) – $2.7MM club option for ‘09 with a $0.1MM buyout
      Ivan Rodriguez (37)
      David Ross (32)
      Jason Varitek (37)
      Gregg Zaun (38)
      Source: MLBTradeRumors.com

Stick with Schneider. None of the above looks like an upgrade

      • dominicanboy08 says:

I will stick with schneider if we get texeira and manny

      • mylegshurt says:

Why isn’t Castro hitting 6th instead of Marlon Anderson? Isn’t .278 a better choice than .200 in that spot (enough with putting the lefty higher in the lineup because a righty is pitching — doesn’t work if the lefty can’t hit!)

  7. grotesmask says:

I like the shake up w/ the LU. JMAN doesn’t stick with things when they don’t work. This alone is better than WR.

Glad to see CD hittin’ 5th. How ’bout Big Dog bats cleanup when he hits .260. Only other candidate is Wright among active Mets.

    Mets…Let’s Go Mets!

    Win this F-in Game!!!

  8. LIMetfan74 says:

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I got a bad feeling about this game. I hope I am wrong

    • KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

      METS ARE GONNA WIN!!!

      K ~

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

No, no – only positive vibes, man.
But have you noticed, the games we expect to win, we haven’t and those we didn’t, we pull out of the hat? I’m choosing to believe that Big Pelf will outpitch Volquez today -lol….

    • KinersKornerman says:

we always have that feeling. It’s endemic to being a Mets fan. We just don’t talk about it.

  9. KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

anyone notice after they produced delgado’s day/night splits and I SUGGESTED that he alter his sleep schedule, and it wasn’t his vision that he started playing like the Delgado of yesteryear? lol, yeah, I’m just gonna take all the credit for that…it wasn’t Delgado or anything….

    I love the Carlos’….when they’re hitting…no, I kid, I do though, they’re great…just solid, solid ball players….

    K ~

    • KinersKornerman says:

Wow, I enjoy a few drinks during the game, too, but it looks like you are seriously ahead of me.

      • KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

whoa…brilliant commentary from an absolute wizard…you; no no, you have it coming….you sir, are an unparalleled genius…kudos to you, seriously, I’m aghast over your brilliance…well done…well done…

        K ~

  10. shannon says:

I don’t like Marlon Anderson in the lineup. He hasn’t been hitting ALL YEAR.

  11. shannon says:

If the Mets can win with TIM LINCECUM pitching, they can win with Edinson Volquez pitching!

  12. KinersKornerman says:

    Run, Jose, Run

  13. MetsFan4Decades says:

A Reyes run in the making here?

  14. Skyhigh980 says:

the idea that reyes’ strong play reflects on the play of the team has really shown to be true this series, 0-5 W, 0-4 L, 1-4 L BA .303 down to 295

  15. The Slider says:

Didn’t Pedro Borbon where his hat off to the side a bit, like Volquez?

I seem to recall Dock Ellis doing the same?

  16. The Slider says:

Ha. Look at Delgado moving up to get a better view. If Bob Gibson was on the mound, Delgado would be on his butt on the first pitch.

  17. MetsFan4Decades says:

Yes! Carlos won that battle at the plate….

  18. The Slider says:

Nice piece of hitting by Bel-TRAN

  19. KinersKornerman says:

    great AB by Beltran

  20. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Atta boy Carlos!

  21. KinersKornerman says:

    who double steals here?

  22. The Slider says:

    Who was that guy Delgado?

  23. MetsFan4Decades says:

Delgado! 6 for 10 in this series. Whatever he’s doing different, it’s not the automatic ground ball into the shift anymore….

  24. KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

    lol….dick pole…

    K ~

  25. KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

did dick pole just come out of Gary’s mouth?

    K ~

  26. KinersKornerman says:

shannon was right…horribly weak part of lineup coming up

  27. jimmyk456 says:

marlon anderson is the biggest loser

  28. The Slider says:

    We gotta score here!

  29. cousinrk says:

I know this wasn’t Wrights fault, he played it well, but it seems to me this team has had so many situations where they have not gotten runners in from second on singles.

    • KinersKornerman says:

definitely. Today might be the day to test some of the Reds OF arms. If we get a guy thrown out at the plate, it’s no worse than stranding him at third

  30. MetsFan4Decades says:

Damn. Castro has power. He didn’t miss that by much….

  31. cousinrk says:

Any day they’d like to replace Marlon Anderson, i’m fine with it. He used to be a reliable hitter off the bench and spot starter but he’s been horrible all year

  32. KinersKornerman says:

Carlos puts the “D” back in Delgado. We need more day games.

  33. KinersKornerman says:

Who are these umps? They are terrible. All of them.

  34. The Slider says:

Volquez is going to start mowing us down. I hope Pelf can make that one run stand up.

  35. cousinrk says:

Not sure why Castro is hitting behind Anderson….Looks like the clock might have struck midnight on some of our Cinderella reserves. Please Ryan Church, come back soon

    • KinersKornerman says:

only reason I can think of is that Ramon runs slower than the actual Shrek. Might clog up the bases in the 6 spot.

  36. khmustache says:

they’re quoting airplane on the reds feed right now…and one of them just admitted that he didn’t know it was a spoof when he first saw it

  37. MetsFan4Decades says:

hahaha – well that was bizarre. And Pelfrey gets a walk out of it.

Whoever said it earlier – yes, these umps these past few days are just ridiculous. At least this time on a bad call, it went our way…..

  38. KinersKornerman says:

Volquez does a great “Bad Ollie” impression right here.

  39. cousinrk says:

Well they’ve left 5, but Volquez has thrown about 55 pitches, so on a humid day hopefully we can at least get him out of the game soon

    • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Not sure that’s a good thing; Cinci’s bullpen has been killing us. Arroyo excepted, we’ve been hitting their starters better. For whatever reason.

  40. khmustache says:

    5 stranded in 2 innings…gulp

  41. teufelshuffle86 says:

    come on

  42. jimmyk456 says:

yep, i wouldnt mind dunn on our team. the guy is a beast

  43. KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

THAT FAT LUMMOX ADAM DUNN DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE HE MADE CONTACT WITH THAT SWING!!! WHAT A STUPID, FAT FN LUMMOX!!!!!!!

    K ~

  44. The Slider says:

As long as those HRs are solo, I can deal with it.

  45. The Slider says:

    Way to come back Mike.

  46. KinersKornerman says:

Hey Perez and Maine, check out Peflrey’s pitching efficiency. Only 7 pitches after the homer.

  47. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Big Pelf is still Da Man.

  48. KinersKornerman says:

Delgado working on getting a natural cycle today

  49. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Who IS this guy, and what has he done with Carlos Delgado?

    Way to go, Carlos!

  50. teufelshuffle86 says:

How driving Delgado in? …oh wait, Marlon Anderson is up.

  51. jimmyk456 says:

i think marlon anderson needs to play for the brooklyn cyclones

  52. khmustache says:

    wow…marlon looks completely lost today

    • KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

he’s a gamer…good clutch hitter…I have faith in him in the most crucial of spots….this wasn’t one of them…

      K~

      • khmustache says:

last september i would agree with you 1000%…this year not so much. he’s looked lost for most of the season

      • jimmyk456 says:

if you have faith in marlon anderson in the MOST crucial of spots, there has to be something wrong with you

  53. teufelshuffle86 says:

Jerry needs to institute his ‘playing hot players’ rule and DFA Anderson.

  54. KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

RAZOR RAMON CASTROO MTHAFCKA”SSSS!!!! AHHa h HAh ah hahahahahah ha HA hhaha hha a

    K ~

  55. khmustache says:

    SHREK!!!

  56. The Slider says:

    SHREK!

  57. cousinrk says:

Once again, please move Mr. Castro up in the lineup

    • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Not with his legs, unfortunately. They can’t all be HRs, and Ramon is terrible on the bags.

      But he still rocks.

  58. dominicanboy08 says:

if only castro could play everyday…

  59. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Woo – Hoo Ramon!

I said it earlier – he’s got power as he just missed a HR his first time up.

And the Mets take the lead….

  60. KinersKornerman says:

Castro says “Take dat, Adam Dunn”

  61. el_giacomo says:

    SHREK!!!!

  62. cousinrk says:

did someone say relax on Marlon? I think almost 100 games in and your “best” pinch hitter off the bench and spot start is hitting 190, it is ok to get on poor Marlon Anderson

  63. KinersKornerman says:

Radio feed is talking about Edinson Volquez formerly known as Julio Reyes. Wierd.

    • 0h the ag0ny says:

marlon… i love you but… im im not in love with you… if ya know what im saying soo…. GET OFF MY TEAM. the guy is obviously playing hurt.

  64. dominicanboy08 says:

this should be our lineup from now on

    reyes
    chavez
    beltran
    delgado
    wright
    easley
    tatis
    schneider/castro

at least until delgado is hot

    • KinersKornerman says:

endy and tatis are not everyday caliber players

      • dominicanboy08 says:

are you picking on me or what? dont you realize those are the guys we have now!!

        • KinersKornerman says:

sorry man, didn’t realize you were posting there. I’ll ease up.

I do agree with you that we need another consistent outfielder, with power, or without.

        • dominicanboy08 says:

I am not mad man, just dont pick on me only..jk..lol we’re cool!

  65. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Pelf!

    Give that man a raise.

  66. cousinrk says:

36 pitches in three innings. John Maine are you watching??

  67. 0h the ag0ny says:

argenis will get a BIG hit tonight. mark it down!

  68. jimmyk456 says:

sucks that castro doesnt want to be an everyday player. the guy is a power machine, if he played daily his numbers would blow away most about every catcher in the national league

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Even if he wanted to – and he’s been quoted saying he doesn’t – he has arthritis of the back so playing him like more than 30% is a recipe for the DL for him.

  69. khmustache says:

    TRIPLE BABY!!!

  70. cousinrk says:

I think Jose just needed a few games after the break to get back in sync. Wow!!

  71. The Slider says:

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the dynamic Jose Reyes.

  72. MetsFan4Decades says:

Jose is gonna break all kinds of records before he’s all said and done….

  73. khmustache says:

wow…volquez is all over the place today

  74. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

C’mon, David, time for the big RBI now. Let’s blow this thing open.

  75. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice hustle, Jose!

  76. khmustache says:

    rbi…i’ll take it

  77. grotesmask says:

That’s called situational sacrifice; I’ll take it!

Keep this guy throwing pitches. he won’t last much longer!

  78. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Volquez is not having one of his better outings.

Maybe he’s nervous because Pedro is watching.

  79. MetsFan4Decades says:

    wow, Marlon. What happened there?

  80. cousinrk says:

Sorry I forgot to mention besides hitting 190, Marlon can’t field a lick

    • Koko says:

He needs to be replaced. Not only can he not field, he can’t hit anymore either.

People gave Franco crap last year for hitting like me, why not Marlon?

If the Mets find an OF, Marlon should go and Tatis should be pinch hitter (yes I know that cuts down on the left handed hitters, but is Anderson really a ‘hitter’?)

And now he cost the Mets a run. . .

  81. Prismo says:

What’s the point of Marlon being on this team? He’s an automatic out at the plate, and well…you all just saw that play.

  82. LIMetfan74 says:

    Anderson sucks!!!!!

    HEY OMAR GET ANOTHER OUTFIELDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  83. 911nafstem says:

Seriously Marlon, what the fck was that? Are the Mets throwing the series?

  84. 911nafstem says:

Great now the retarded man-child is up

  85. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I like this Phillips guy. Can we bribe someone to get him on our team?

  86. AzMetsFan says:

Bench Marlon after that pathetic play! Tatis slides into the wall catching a foul ball yesterday and Marlon pulls that kind of move on a fair ball? What that hell was he thinking?

And of course thats starts a rally. Unbelievable.

    • 911nafstem says:

Everyone has played like ass on defense in this series. It’s ridiculous, there is no reason the Mets aren’t up 2-1 in this series.

  87. dminches says:

If this game doesn’t convince Minaya that they cannot win without Church or an acquired corner outfielder then he is just not paying attention.

  88. The Slider says:

If Bel-TRAN doesn’t play center field with his back up against the wall, Phillips doesn’t get to 3rd.

  89. metmania says:

This team is trying to blow this lead for pelfrey

  90. The Slider says:

Was that slider the first breaking pitch Pelfrey’s thrown all day?

  91. Koko says:

I blame Marlon for making this a one run game.

    Fire Marlon!

  92. 911nafstem says:

Omar, PLEASE get us an outfielder. Niese, Carp, trade whoever, they’re all going to suck in the majors anyway.

  93. AngryFan says:

Anderson just gave this game back to the Reds by setting this inning up….great job guy

  94. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Aw, hell.

  95. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, man……Not good here in the 4th.
And those stranded runners come back to haunt us.

  96. khmustache says:

    damn

  97. mark5674 says:

the demise of mike pelfrey… all you need is a defense that doesnt care!

  98. AngryFan says:

Oh yeah….pitching exposed for the 4th game in a row…..can we get the NL West back in the stadium anytime soon?

  99. 911nafstem says:

This is the worst god damn place for the Mets to have started their second half.

  100. jimmyk456 says:

i could have done a hell of a job catching that fly ball

  101. AngryFan says:

Ok…time to remove Anderson. He barely caught that one…

  102. mark5674 says:

marlon caught a ball? no wayyyyy.. the reds are smart, they know if they want to win this game they need to hit it to marlon and delgado

  103. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I hate this ballpark too, but if Pelf’s sinker was working better today, these fly balls would be fly balls. I don’t think either pitcher is doing well with the hot & muggy weather.

    • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

      Yeah, that made sense.

“These fly balls wouldn’t be fly balls,” I meant to say.

    • AngryFan says:

Fair enough but the fact is the Mets missed a few opportunites already that they regret

  104. 911nafstem says:

This is why the Mets need another outfielder, not so much because I don’t think Tatis or Endy aren’t good enough to start, but more because the Mets bench is tragically bad.

  105. stickguy says:

I missed the 4th, but I get the impression it was not really Pelfs fault? SOunds like shoddy D, not getting a strike call on Encarnancion, and a band box conspiring against him?

Lets just see if he can settle down and get through a couple more. 7 full, no more runs would be nice.

  106. AngryFan says:

    Volquez already at 95 pitches…

    • dminches says:

The Reds announcers acted like Volquez was back on his game in the 5th after getting to an 0-2 count on Delgado. 5 pitches later it’s a base on balls.

  107. KL15 says:

I’m not sure I can stomach watching this team find ways to lose for another 2 months.

  108. Koko says:

Make up for it Anderson. . .

  109. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

OK, Marlon, maybe we won’t DFA you just yet.

  110. stickguy says:

Marlon really does seem to be done. I don’t think I would miss him if he disappeared for a while.

of course, while I am typing this, he actually gets a base hit!

    Am I good, or what?

  111. Koko says:

I guess that is a baby step for Anderson, but now he just set up the triple play.

  112. 911nafstem says:

With the way things have gone in this series, 10 runs here and I might get comfortable

  113. KL15 says:

    Way to be there Ramon!

  114. 911nafstem says:

Oh well, gotta try and get some runs in the 6th I guess

  115. 911nafstem says:

What a shock, and the pitcher’s spot wasn’t even used, nice touch Mets

  116. The Slider says:

Carlos!! Jesus, man. Even a little leaguer knows to make sure the ball goes through the infield on the right side before you make a move to 3rd.

  117. Two-By-Four says:

That was a soft liner right at the second baseman. What was Delgado thinking? Another wasted opportunity.

  118. LIMetfan74 says:

They are not winning this game

  119. KL15 says:

This game is lost. Depending on how the Philadelphia series goes this season may be lost. They’re probably going to win today and by the way it’s looking now The Mets will be 2 games back. Oh well, the ten game streak was fun……

  120. stickguy says:

They really do need 1-2 real OFs, and soon. Chavez needs to go back to the benck, and Anderson should never be allowed out there again. Even Tatis is an adventure.

Hopefully Church does come back soon and stays back. Even with that, a guy like Blake for part-time duty would helpl

  121. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

OK, folks, all is not lost just yet. We’re hitting pretty well today; we just didn’t put it together that time. I’m more worried about Pelf getting back into his groove here.

  122. 911nafstem says:

I agree, this has the makings of a series where jack sht is going to go the Mets way and the Reds are going to make up any deficit.

  123. The Slider says:

Whew. We got by Andy Phillips!

  124. 911nafstem says:

The only good thing to come out of this probable loss is that I think Jerry Manuel is smart enough to never ever ever ever ever EVER start Marlon Anderson again.

  125. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Not liking all these fly balls. Fly balls in this ballpark = bad.

  126. stickguy says:

nice bounce back inning by pelfry. that is also a big part of the maturation process as a pitcher.

amazing to see a Met starter only throw 71 pitches though 5. If they get him some runs, maybe he can go 8, even with the heat?

Actually, Pelf is the only guy now that you have any expectation of getting thru 5 with less than 100 pitches (that includes Johan).

Pedro of course won’t throw 100, but that’s because he will get hurt first!

  127. 911nafstem says:

This gets my vote for most frustrating series of the season, narrowly beating out the Padres sweep.

  128. cousinrk says:

These Umpires are so beyond bad its hard to believe.

    • jectalo says:

can we get one game where the umpires don’t shaft us repeatedly? that ball almost hit pelfrey’s knee. he should be on first with a leadoff walk in a tie game. unreal

  129. KL15 says:

The longer this goes, the more in the Reds favor it gets. THIS SUCKS!!

  130. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Did I hear some people in the crowd doing the Jose chant?

  131. Two-By-Four says:

This umpiring crew is atrocious. If there is one area of baseball that is in steady decline it is the quality of the umpiring.

  132. KinersKornerman says:

I’ll say it again. These umpires stink. That was ball four for Pelf’s AB

  133. KL15 says:

That was a ball the last time it was thrown

  134. reyesnwright says:

well that’s twice in two innings that we’ve had ball 4 called a strike in at bats that would have been huge walks…the umpiring has been terrible this series- the worst was the one where pelfrey was struck out then overruled by the first base ump for some reason but that is the only bad one I can remember that went in our favor.

  135. khmustache says:

now he’s calling the inside corner….bad calls are one thing, but inconsistency kills me

  136. 911nafstem says:

Does anyone actually believe the Mets are winning this game? Just curious

  137. cousinrk says:

Yeah out of nowhere they are calling the waaaaaaaay inside corner a strike. That’s two 3-1 pitches called a strike. Unreal

  138. KL15 says:

    Not a chance in hell.

  139. LIMetfan74 says:

    Nope

  140. stickguy says:

looks like it is time to start the pool for “which guy from the pen will blow the game up today”. Plenty of good choices available.

The 6th with “he who can’t be named” and Denn is going to be huge for Pelf. Can’t afford to get behind.

Also, I have seen more curve balls thrown by Reds pitchers this series than I have by Mets pitchers all year. Considering they have all been strikes (often looking), or generated weak swings, maybe the Mets pitchers should consider trying to throw curves too?

  141. almar1965 says:

Looking at this blog today, and it seems like the bandwagon is making stops to let people off.

    • khmustache says:

always…the ebb and flow here is incredible

      • KinersKornerman says:

Everyday is “Bipolar Awareness Day” at Metsblog

      • almar1965 says:

Exactly. You would think after winning 10 in a row and 12 of 15 and getting right back in the thick of the race being tied for first after Thursday, that the bandwagon would be out of commission due to exceeding weight restrictions.

  142. The Slider says:

Marlins just tied up the game with the Sillies in the 8th on a HR by Ross (I think). 2-2.

  143. 911nafstem says:

I thought I saw Marlon Anderson mouth “I got your back” to Dusty Baker when he ran out to the outfield, before exchanging thumbs up with the home plate umpire.

  144. KL15 says:

The only prayer we as fans have is the fact that The Marlins just tied the Phillies. If The Marlins can win we’ll go into the next series only one game out. Again, it that series doesn’t go well, mail it in.

    • KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

you’re a piece of ‘work’….what type of Mets fan are you? Go root for the yankays if you wanna root for a loser….GET THE F OUTTA HERE!!! YOU’RE HATED!!!

      K ~

    • almar1965 says:

Right you idiot. Because losing a series to the Phillies in July means the division is over.

I think people seriously come on here just to hear themselves talk when they post.

  145. KL15 says:

    Game over.

  146. KinersKornerman says:

Marlon didn’t see that homer, either. Sheesh.

  147. The Slider says:

“Hanging slider right down the pipe.”

  148. 911nafstem says:

Mets just have to get out of this stadium

  149. AngryFan says:

    Good!

Seeing all the opportunities the Mets missed this game (this series) they deserve what they’re gonna get.

    10 game streak = mirage.

  150. stickguy says:

Jeff Brantley keeps harping on how if the Mets can get a real OF, they will be the favorites to win the division (or in his lingo, they will “walk the dog”).

If even he knows it, wonder what Omar is doing these days?

Church will help immensly, but if they can get a solid RH bat too, it wil lbe huge.

What the heck happened to Pelf? 3 ding dongs in 1 game?

oh well. unless the offense does something soon against the pen, this isn’t looking good (especilly with how bad the Mets pen has been here).

  151. MetsFan4Decades says:

Well, not one of Pelf’s better pitching performances, even with the low pinch count.

I think Tatis is a step up on defense in LF over Marlon. And that’s saying something since Tatis is a 3b man by trade….

  152. The Slider says:

Well, let’s just prey for a Phillies loss.

  153. 911nafstem says:

It’s a shame, Pelfrey hasn’t pitched that bad of a game.

    • The Slider says:

Too many fly balls for him – especially in a tiny matchbox of a stadium like this (though all three HRs off him were tagged).

    • KL15 says:

Very true. If the defense would have gotten off their @$$ who knows…..

  154. LIMetfan74 says:

Way to go 3 game loosing streak. Way to set up for the Phills.
Who we face Blanton who has pitched well against us.

  155. KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

    LETS GO MET-ROS!!! LETS GO!!!

    LETS GO MET-ROS!!! LETS GO!!!

  156. AngryFan says:

At this rate, they’ll be back at .500 in no time

  157. Two-By-Four says:

We are seeing why the NL Central is the toughest division in the NL. It’s fun to play the NL West.

  158. 911nafstem says:

This umpire’s zone is shaped like Florida

  159. KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

    WALK MOTHFACKERS!!!!

    K ~

  160. MetsFan4Decades says:

We can still do this. Only 1 run down right now.

  161. AngryFan says:

And there’s an example of the clutch non-hitting we’ve seen the last 3 games (and the entire season except for that 1 streak)

  162. Skyhigh980 says:

  164. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    YEAH!

  165. cousinrk says:

Wow, I can’t believe its come to this, I’m as confident right now with Delgado up as anyone else. Crazy

  166. KinersKornerman says:

3 hits for Delgado today. Nice.
The running game helps a lot. Good working swiping 2nd by DW.

  167. NYCESQ says:

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Delgado has been our MVP, in the last two months. The guy has SERIOUSLY turned a corner. Good for him, and for us.

    • Skyhigh980 says:

i’d go with reyes , but delgado has to be close, the guy has been getting hits in situations where we wouldve always guranteed a K or just an out in general

  168. The .500 Club says:

Who taught Delgado how to hit again?

  169. 911nafstem says:

    Need 7 more runs

  170. Nate W. says:

I would have left Marlon in to face the lefty rather than have a righty PH face Lincoln. Affelt was at the end of his rope, Marlon can handle him… lets see how it turns out.

  171. Skyhigh980 says:

heading to the bottom of the 9th in the phillies game tie game at 2. Cantu, Helms, and Uggla set to bat

  172. MetsFan4Decades says:

DWright’s stolen base was huge. And Delgado – who would have thought??? Glad to have his bat lately…..

  173. 911nafstem says:

The faster Marlon was out of this game the better, the guy has been absolutely useless today.

  174. The Slider says:

Tatis pinch hitting for Marlon and then going into LF as a “defensive replacement.” Ha. Reality stranger than fiction.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yep. You can’t make this stuff up.

      • The Slider says:

We can’t go the rest of the season like this, can we?

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

Good question. My gut tells me no. My optimism says ‘Why not’?? As you said ’stranger than fiction’….

    • metsfan101589 says:

tatis has been better than he was in the beginning, and the catch that wasn’t called yesterday shows his improvement

  175. 911nafstem says:

    Damn, that was ball 4

  176. Skyhigh980 says:

i thought that was a strike

  177. 911nafstem says:

Wow, this umpire is seriously horrible

  178. Skyhigh980 says:

    but ill take it

  179. trippingac says:

Some of the fans on this blog really are amazingly fickle. Here the Mets are, sputtering a little bit coming off a 10 GAME WINNING STREAK, they go down by a run and fans are already conceding the game and harshly criticizing their team. None of you deserve to enjoy it if the Mets win this game.

    • khmustache says:

      well said

    • 911nafstem says:

Unbelievable, this zone is making me nervous for the Mets bullpen

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

‘Some’ being the operative word. Not all of us have that doom and gloom mindset….

    • KHERUB VON KHERUB says:

Yesterday those were two real good pitches by Lincoln to Wright and Beltran….a bit non sequitor, but I just wanted to say it….I tip the cap….I mean, the umps cheated all game for the Reds, but those two pitches were strikes…..Today though….Mets are gonna win.

      K ~

    • AngryFan says:

FEH on you. Seeing as there was a full calendar year of playing garbage ball before the streak, I fully understand if some people are watching to see if the streak was a mirage, or an indicator of the real Mets

The Nats are clubbing the Braves today to the tune of 18 baserunners in 5 innings so far…

LoDuca 0-4 with 6 LOB. hahaha!

  183. Nate W. says:

Ramon Castro has 2 RBI and 7 LOB today. Thats hard to do.

  184. 911nafstem says:

Put a circle around that one

  185. MetsFan4Decades says:

Man….I thought we were done watching Reyes make those types of errors….

  186. The Slider says:

Phillies – Marlins tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 10th. Matt Lindstrom (in case anybody else wants indigestion) just finished a 1-2-3 top of the 10th by striking out Ryan Howard on a 98 mph heater.

  187. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Jose’s obviously been hanging with Dan Uggla.

  188. KL15 says:

    Great, here we go….

  189. stickguy says:

tied it up. Good sign. Now will Pelf come out for the 7th?

Yup, there’s the big guy. Either shows that Manuel hs faith in him, or none in the pen!

and there goes Jose, making things difficult again. had the glove down, and just pulled it up too early.

lets have a DP and get out of this.

  190. 911nafstem says:

Ok Marlins, you can win now

  191. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K. Jose – nice play. Nice way to erase your error!

Come on boys, some runs here in this inning now….

  192. Skyhigh980 says:

way to pick yourself up from the error reyes, same goes to the composure by big pelf

  193. khmustache says:

that was a nice dp there…and although it wasn’t a particularly hard play for mini reyes, i am liking his glove out there.

  194. AzMetsFan says:

I had a good feeling Reyes was going to recover to get a DP that inning. Nice Work and glad they went out to speak to Pelfrey after that miscue. We didn’t need another Marlon blunder rally.

  195. AzMetsFan says:

Lets gets some runs boys go to Philly with some Momentum!

Lets go Mets! Lets go Mets! Lets go Mets!

  196. khmustache says:

was weathers this fat when he pitched for the mets? i don’t remember him having that many chins

  197. The Slider says:

    Easley should . . . never mind.

  198. 911nafstem says:

Mets have to lead the league in called 3rd strikes

  199. KL15 says:

David, if you want to be the man nows the time to show it.

  200. stickguy says:

I am seriously liking A. Reyes. Getting key hits, and looks so good on D. Luis, just take the rest of the year off to really rest those legs!

  201. washtiger says:

Too many LOB again today. How many the past 3 games?

  202. khmustache says:

  203. Skyhigh980 says:

  204. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Big K for Sanchez!

  205. KL15 says:

The Marlins are seriously trying to give this game up.

  206. metphan says:

    PICK UP DELGADO’S OPTION!

  207. 911nafstem says:

Crap, Hanley Ramirez error may cost Marlins. Of course shtty Carlos Ruiz gets single afterwards.

  208. 911nafstem says:

Mets CAN NOT get a break

  209. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, WOW. Carlos missed that by this much…..

  210. stickguy says:

  211. khmustache says:

dang…thought for sure that one was landing

  212. 911nafstem says:

Beltran’s gotta try to steal 3rd here

  213. KL15 says:

  214. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Well, sh&t……

  215. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Son of a ….

  216. khmustache says:

  219. AzMetsFan says:

why wasn’t that a double steal?

  220. Skyhigh980 says:

    DAMNNN

  221. stickguy says:

damned Beltran brain fart. Nice aggressive play if it works, but you only do that if you are getting a big lead and a huge jump.

Now need a clutch 2 out hit from Chavez. Haven’t seen that in a while.

  222. MetsFan4Decades says:

Can you believe this? Endy was robbed.

  223. khmustache says:

    crap

  224. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Everybody cross your fingers for Good Aaron.

  225. 911nafstem says:

Yeah, the Mets are winning this game…

  226. KL15 says:

FOR GOD’S SAKE one timely hit PLEASE!!

  227. stickguy says:

The Mets are doing everything they can think of to not win this game. Reminds me of the Willie days, and that is not a good thing!

Endy needs some time off. Chruchie, where are you big guy?

  228. stickguy says:

come on Sanchez, get through this inning and get it to extras. Top of the order again in the 10th if they get there.

  229. Skyhigh980 says:

    marlins just won

  230. lambay says:

Okay, one of you guys is in a parallel universe. Which one?

  234. KL15 says:

Well at least The Mets won’t drop in the standings.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Notice how none of us are even considering the Marlins in the standings? It’s the second half and they just aren’t going away. We lose, we’re in third place behind these pesky Marlins and the hated Phils….

  235. lambay says:

sorry – meant to say the Marlins!!!!

  236. oklametsfan says:

skyhigh and lambay watching the same game?

  237. 911nafstem says:

    good

  238. stickguy says:

OK, Phils dumped another game to the Marlins. Pull this one out, and back in a tie for first.

and even if they lose tonday, the Mets will be in first if they win their next game!

gonna be a big series with the Phils.

Dunn has been a machine this series. Do posters still think he wouldn’t help the Mets this year?

    • 911nafstem says:

I have to admit, I wasn’t a fan, but I’m starting to by into Dunn

    • KL15 says:

Do you remember Anderson’s play in the outfield. Dunn seems to have a habit of doing that.

    • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Unfortunately, the better he plays, the more expensive he becomes.

      • 911nafstem says:

I don’t think he’s really playing better, he is who he is, he walks, strikes out, and hits homers, and if the Mets could add that presence in the 5 hole without giving up Martinez, they gotta think long and hard about it.

      • KinersKornerman says:

Cincy OF is thin (Freel out for the year), so they likely keep Dunn and take the draft picks when he leaves. See where Corey Patterson is their OF depth. Ugh.

  239. khmustache says:

    big strikeout there

  240. khmustache says:

    nice inning dirty

  241. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice job, Duaner.
And Dunn out of the game so don’t have to worry about his one swing of the bat winning this game…..

  242. AzMetsFan says:

Nice Pitching Duaner and Dunn’s out of the game

  243. stickguy says:

nice job by Sanchez. Now get some runs in the 10th, and trun it over to Wagner. I will go walk the dog and check in later if he is trying to close it out of course!

They need to win in the 10th. Mets have the top of the order, and the Reds have the bottom. So now is the time.

  244. cousinrk says:

Damn that big boy can motor.

  245. 911nafstem says:

    Ok, now DRIVE HIM IN!

    And don’t bunt Reyes

  246. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Cancel!! Who woulda thunk it?

  247. MetsFan4Decades says:

    O.K. Cancel. WOOOOOO-HOOOOOO.
Do not, I repeat, do not, waste this base runner. Come on boys, get him home.

  248. khmustache says:

    NICE!!!

  249. WestCoastMets_since86 says:

    yeeeaaaahhhh boooooooooiiiiiiii

  250. stickguy says:

Cancel with a double? I think Locusts are coming next…

let’s see, spot them a man on 2nd, top of the order (now 1st and 3rd no outs).

Even the Mets score here, right? Right? maybe?

    • stickguy says:

took a little help, but yes they can! Now lets see beltran put this baby away.

  251. KinersKornerman says:

Can the winngin run actually be scored by Cancel? Is that physically possible?

  252. WestCoastMets_since86 says:

    YEAH

….And THATS why they are the REDS

  253. khmustache says:

    YES!!!!!

  254. Skyhigh980 says:

thank god that was almost a disaster

  255. 911nafstem says:

That was the ONLY way the Mets were going to score here

  256. cousinrk says:

Thank you Encarcion, I accept all gifts in any shape or form.

  257. MetsFan4Decades says:

    YES !! YES !! YES !!

Where’s my pal, KL15? You have that glass half full yet? lol.

Do not even think about telling me they’re give this lead back in the bottom of the 10th….

  258. KL15 says:

    OLD SCHOOL BABY!! Manufacturing runs.

      game’s not over yet

The not a chance was me and I’ll tell you what I told MetsFan4Decades, if I’m wrong and they come back and win this, you can beat on me untill your hearts content.

      • reyesnwright says:

ha…i’m just having fun with you guys, i know you want them to win just as much as I do and beleive me I’ve been just as frustrated as you the past few games but sometimes the negativity on this site gets to be too much for me.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yep, I do. Check back and you’ll see me saying they can still win this when they were down 5-4….

  262. 911nafstem says:

Just 3 more runs, a grand slam would do

  263. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

OK, Grand slam for Delgado now.

  264. stickguy says:

    nice timing Beltran.

are they really going to have bases jacked no outs and not score an insurance run?

  265. 911nafstem says:

    Whew, that was big

  266. cousinrk says:

    Speed Kills Baby

    I’ll take it, though.

  271. almar1965 says:

For all those who gave up when they were 1 run behind,…it must suck to be you.

    • reyesnwright says:

Forget those who gave up when they were 1 behind…there are people here who gave up when it was tied in the 6th inning.

    • 911nafstem says:

      No, I’m doing okay actually

      • reyesnwright says:

That’s the thing with the guys who always say they’re going to lose even in tie games- if they do lose, they get to say I told you so and if you win, they are wrong but at least they win- just a defense mechanism.

  272. stickguy says:

Carlos Delgado is upseting all the Karma in the universe right now. How is this happening?

I am now having nightmares that Omar exercises the option, and we get the 2007 version in 2009.

I think they should ride this resurgance for all they can get out of him, give him the 4 mill and walk away.

    • KinersKornerman says:

stick, want Carlos or Dunn at 1B next year?

      • stickguy says:

Dunn if those are my 2 choices.

I actually hope one of the young guys can step in at some point. So, the only upside to Delgado would be it is just for 1 year.

I don’t think either guy will be there though.

    • gipper82475 says:

      Absolutely right re: the option.

  273. 911nafstem says:

Did the Reds take this guy out of a renaissance fair?

  274. KinersKornerman says:

What the hell is Wright doing?

  275. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Billy time. Let’s see a 1-2-3 here.

  276. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

OK, it’s Billy time. Everybody take a deep breath.

  277. 911nafstem says:

July against the Reds? This is where Wagner shines.

  278. MetsFan4Decades says:

Jerry trying to give me a heart attack here….
Billy looked confused when he was coming out. Looking around like ‘what’s going on’???

  279. gipper82475 says:

    What was that?

  280. AzMetsFan says:

shoot, dont ever let wagner laugh on the mound

  281. khmustache says:

brantley is in love with billy

  282. almar1965 says:

Looks like the stage is being set for a huge series at Shea. Tied for first and a 3 game series against the Sillies.

Santana, Maine and Perez vs. Bland-ton, Wife-beater and ???

Time for the Mets to lay a smackdown Big Apple style.

  283. MetsFan4Decades says:

    One more…

  284. cousinrk says:

Showdown at Shea for first place Tuesday. Cannot wait.

  285. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Billy is the man!!

Great come back. The NY Mets new motto ‘Never Say Die’.

First place – even if we have to share with those Phils.

O.K. now, KL15? I’ll pour that glass half full for you – lol !!

  286. khmustache says:

DONE AND DONE!!!!! METS WIN METS WIN METS WIN!!!!

  287. KL15 says:

OK everyone, I’m right here, let the beatings begin.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Nah, I’m just too damn happy.

    • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Mr. Met is going to beat you silly with his giant head.

It’s OK, have a half (full) beer on me and we’ll look forward to Tuesday night.

    • KinersKornerman says:

Your penance is to tell all the posters on this thread how loyal and smart they are. That’s gonna hurt.

      • KL15 says:

Allot smarter than I am apparently. The loyalty part I’m not sure about. At the moment, living in Cardinal country, it’s not easy being a Mets fan.

  288. KinersKornerman says:

Yes!!!! Time for the Happy Recap.

  289. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    SANDMAN!

I take back everything bad I said about you.

    For today.

    Nice win, guys!

  290. almar1965 says:

    There ya go!

Now on the menu, freshly served crow on a plate for those who gave up when the game was tied.

  291. grotesmask says:

    Ba-Ba-Ba-BILLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYY

    THE

    KIDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!

    Oh, we needed this one.

    Mets, Baby, Mets!

  292. cousinrk says:

On a side note, I cannot watch that “Jeter’s got an Edge” Ford commercial one more time. PLEASE stop airing it.

  293. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Ever wonder what SNY is airing while the game’s on CW11?

It’s a cheerleading competition. The current team is doing something with a “pirate theme.” I kid you not.

    See you guys on Tuesday.

  294. Koko says:

Even though Pelfry gave up 5 runs (at least two of them were Marlon’s fault) he pitched well again. Super efficient. 5 runs, but still only 89 pitches through 7. At this point he’s our second best starter by far. . .

    • KL15 says:

I’ll second that. The best part for me personally is, the night I think he and this team turned it around, if the rest of the season proves it, I was there in Busch Stadium.

  295. nysportsfan16 says:

    Put it in the books!!

  296. 911nafstem says:

Are the Cards officially for real?

    • AlwaysAmazing5 says:

That was a good win. Although I could have used a few more Guiseppi Franco commercials.
