Kepp is so overrated around here. His OPS+ sits at a less than stellar 93 right now, which is actually only 4 points better than Castillo. Unless Keppinger learns to take a walk or develops some power (both unlikely at 28), he's a replacement-level IF.

That's foolish of those who only consider Carp. Evans has posted excellent numbers at AA and he's really yet to learn to pull the ball- most of his XBH are to the opposite field. If he fills out and increases his bat speed a bit, he ought to be able to turn on pitches and boost his power accordingly.

Well, Owen also jumped from rookie ball to Hi-A. For a guy like Owen that relies on command and pitch variation rather than pure stuff, a drop off is to be expected against more advanced hitters. The good news for him is that he continues to develop a solid 4-pitch arsenal, while maintaining a solid K/9 and excellent K/BB (4.0). The true test for him will be against AA hitters, either toward the end of this season or the beginning of next.

Projections seemed to have kicked up to mid-rotation starter, since he's young, excelling against advanced competition, and has maintained a solid K-rate while inducing a lot of ground balls.

The only younger pitcher in the EL with a better ERA than Niese is Chris Tillman. He's also second in IP.

But I mean over Carp. it seems like people only consider Carp when it comes to options at first base.

I'm not sold on Evans. He needs some more work. Great plate discipline, but still can't hit major league hitting.

But then again, if he could give us a .250-.270 average and 15 hr's I'd be happy.

He really is overrated. We'd be better off signing a FA for 2 years to play 1B. Or trading for a Chad Tracy type guy and plopping him at 1st. (just an example)
