Quote: We Didn’t Play Good Baseball

With yesterday’s 7-5 win versus the Reds, and the Phillies loss to the Marlins, the Mets are now tied for first place in the National League East.

Jerry Manuel, on yesterday’s game, speaking with reporters after the game:

“Very big win today. We were facing a very tough pitcher that we got a high pitch count. Mike Pelfrey was really outstanding, for the most part. He gave up a couple homeruns there or whatever, but he was very good. We can’t afford to going in there and not playing winning baseball. We didn’t play good baseball, but we won. Hopefully we can keep it going once we get home.”

Manuel, on Mike Pelfrey’s performance:

“His location versus those lefties early on where he was dotting that outside corner with power sink. That was very good stuff.”

…manuel is right, the Mets did not play very good baseball this weekend, especially with their situational hitting, leaving 30 men on base in the last two games…
