the only reason that the mets farm system is lowly in other people's minds is that there isnt a name that pops out at you like a tim beckham or a buster posey, but there are prospects, i think that they should hold on to their players and build on it through the years, like the red sox.

For a team that's supposedly barren down on the farm, there are some interesting prospects to watch in the Mets system right now. Flores' numbers in A-ball would be impressive if he was 20 like the rest of his peers and he's 16! Reese Havens was mashing with what seems to be one arm before they finally decided too shut him down. Holt threw 7 innings of no-hit ball in only his second start in Brooklyn. And of course there's F-Mart and Niese who continue to show progress in AA. Consider that Pelfrey and Joe Smith are already up in the bigs and contributing big time in a pennant race, and I really don't think this FO has damaged the farm system as much as some rival scouts and talking heads seem to imply.

And I still think guys like Kunz and Francisco Pena who scouts are down on because of up and down first years in the minors, can turn out to be something special. I read recently that defensively, Pena is already a big league quality catcher, he just needs some plate discipline.

Jon Niese pitched this afternoon for Bingy, throwing a complete game shutout (7 inning game) He was so on his game maybe they should have had him pitching for the Mets today... ;)

I don't think that there is an age requirement for the major leagues. I know you have to be 16 in order to sign a contract, but once you are a professional baseball player, i don't think that they have different requirements for each level.
