News: F’Mart Leaves with Leg Cramp
By Matthew Cerrone - Jul 24, 2008 11:31 pm

Mets Double-A OF Fernando Martinez left today’s game in Binghamton with a cramp in his hamstring.

…ugh…this will be martinez’s third leg injury of the season…

…i’m thinking the Mets should get him to the same magic healing center where they sent Jose Reyes a few seasons agoand quick

According to a spokesman in Binghamton, Martinez is day-to-day.

Geez, every thread is yet another reason why the Mets need to acquire a corner OF.

  2. M3TS4L1F3 says:

Again fake Matt Cerrone saying UGH….. where have you been this news has been around for hours now considering he was pulled out around 1:30

  3. Championmets says:

Mets Prospecthub says its not serious and that it what just a cramp and that F-mart will be day to day

    • nrmax88 says:

Yup. Its cramp. You would think he tore his achilles. In other MILB news, Brad Holt goes 6 strong today, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits and 2 BB’s, striking out 14. This guy is impressive.

  4. GravediggerHebner says:

In the context of Met corner OF woes, I just read a short but sobering article about Toronto 2B Aaron Hill, who suffered a concussion while colliding with David Eckstein May 29, has not returned, and is expected to miss the season. The article mentioned Corey Koskie, who suffered a concussion in July ‘06 and has not played since, and also Mike Matheny, the catcher who had to retire due to concussion suffered from repeated foul balls off his mask. Godspeed Ryan Church.

  5. Flushing_is_Burning says:

jees, the injuries the Mets organization have endured this season can fill up a medical text book.

Breaking New: the bat boy is out for the season with splinter in left thumb.

  6. Koko says:

It’s a cramp. Give him some Midol and everything will be okay in a few hours. Sheesh.

    • nrmax88 says:

Lol. For real. If he was a 38 year old dude cramping up okay, but he is 19 it will be gone tomorrow.

  7. EliPorter says:

    injury prone

    • nrmax88 says:

      Ignorant prone.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

yeah. 19 and cant stay healthy. i am all for this kid in a year but come on. its only a matter of time before he actaully gets something serious and from a top prospect to someone i wish we could have traded

  8. HarryDoyle says:

Is Casey Blake the best option in a trade?

  9. patrick says:

    Bummer, there goes the bait.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

      You’re joking, right? F-Mart wasn’t going anywhere.

      • patrick says:

I prefer to call him Fernando, over all the cute hip nick names everyone is making up for this all hype do nothing prospect whose best line on his numbers that people keep grasping at straws for is he is only 19 only 19….

  10. bigchart333 says:

You know, i put this on a thread last nite and only one person saw it, so i guess i’ll put it here…so people can blast me as usual.

If there’s even a WHISPER of Roy Halladay being available, i would IMMEDIATELY call Toronto and see what they want. If it was F-Mart, Niese, maybe future DH Carp, and even Heilman, i’d drive them all to the airport. He’s a true ace, under contract for TWO more years, and would fill a void left in our rotation for next year. Throwing out Johan, Roy, Maine, Big Pelf, and whoever for the next 2 years would be devastating Roy is a TRUE ace, would make our pitching by far the best in the NL, and has the ability to go 9 every time he takes the ball.
Heilman can be replaced by Eddie Kunz, who is having a great year in AA (3.09 ERA, 25 svs, 37 K in 43 innings).

Then, to answer our corner OF woes for this year, i’ve been reading that seattle will almost give anyone away as long as you tack on Jose Vidro and his terrible contract. On our team, he would be a good addition as a bench player. So then you can trade a couple of marginal prospects for Raul Ibanez and Vidro.
Adding those 2 guys would make us have to send down Robinson Cancel and Nick Evans…and adding Halladay, we’d have to either DFA Marlon (even though i do like him still, great PH just having a bad year) or DL someone.

I have no doubt those are all smart moves and would make us head and shoulders AT THE VERY LEAST, as GOOD as the cubs, if not better.

I dont think we’re mortgaging our future because we’ll have 4 young pitchers in our rotation for the next 2 years at least, and as for corner OF, next year, Ibanez, Dunn, Burrell are all FA, and Nady is a FA after 2009.

    • patrick says:

why is Toronto trading the affordable and under contract Halladay?

      Next

      • bigchart333 says:

why? Cuz Halladay has complained about his team, and politely asked Toronto to shop him around. I’m not just throwing an idea out there, im talking facts. Supposedly, he’s finally had it and is looking to maybe get out of there

      • jcervone7 says:

Toronto has also seen that they can get premium prospects for a starter of this caliber after the Sabathia and Harden deals. They need to fix a lot and giving up Halladay would be very good for their future.

        • jcervone7 says:

And this isn’t an idle rumor either, Toronto IS shopping Halladay.

        • beltran the warrior says:

you really think the mets have what it takes to get halladay? i certainly don’t. this isn’t a santana deal where we got let off the hook by not having to give up f-mart. this deal would start with f-mart AND probably a top 20 pitching prospect and then another sweetener. neise isn’t getting this done.

the playing field would also be much wider with other teams getting into the fray instead of just the mets, yankees and red sox.

        • Mingo says:

Now why would the Blue Jays trade their ace to a team in their division? That wouldn’t be merely prospects.

        • patrick says:

show one shred of evidence that they are shopping him…

        • JohnGreatOneNJ says:

Patrick, I’ll give you a direct quote as evidence they are NOT shopping him…

Taken, word for word/line for line from Jayson Stark’s Rumblings and Grumblings…

Interestingly, other clubs that have spoken with the Blue Jays say they’ll talk about anybody. But when the conversation turns to, say, Roy Halladay, the conversation ends fast.

“He likes it here,” Ricciardi says. “He wants to win here. And he’s signed for two more years. So if we trade him, we’d be giving up on the chance that we’re going to be a good club in the next two years. And we don’t feel that way.”

    • toomanyuniforms says:

You’ve latched on to one important point, which is that the Mets best bargaining chip is (as usual) not what they can give, but what they can take — a bad contract. Otherwise, I still fail to see what we have to offer in trade for anyone of value. I really don’t think trading F-Mart or Niese would be wise, and I don’t know how much value Evans/Carp/Murphy will actually have. Everyone else is too young to seriously interest other teams, and trading someone out of our bullpen is robbing Peter to give half of it to Paul.

      • AzMetsFan says:

We would need to trade 4 F-Marts and 3 Niece’s to get Holliday. i don’t think that’s happening. He is the best pitcher in MLB.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Halladay, you mean. . . . though getting Halladay and Holliday would be something of a holiday.

  11. meatloaf says:

Post it again and again bigchart333. Halladay would make this team ridiculous. He just turned 31 and is under control for 2 more years at below market value and may welcome an extension if the Mets wanted to do that. He would be a beautiful couonter to the Phillies Blanton move (an innings eater who is actually good). I love the kids mentioned in your post but for Halladay it’s a no brainer. Having he and Johan going 2 out of every 5 days would mean absolutely NO losing streaks. I doubt Toronto will deal him but if blown away mayt have to think about it. Halladay wants to win and let’s face it they are not going to win in that division. The 3 teams above them are not going anywhere for years and Doc and the Jays can hover around .500 at best. Make some call Omar.

  12. meatloaf says:

What if the Mets offered a package headed by F-Mart and Maine? Throw in Niese and I think the Jays would have a hard time saying no. You replace MAine with Halladay in the rotation. Then go after Holliday also. I would trade a few years of futility for a World Series anyday. You never know but this team would be hard to beat in the playoffs:

    Halladay
    Santana
    Pelfrey
    Perez

    Reyes
    Church
    Wright
    Beltran
    Holliday
    Delgado
    Schneider/Castro
    Castillo/Easley

I realize it’s probably a pipe dream but what a splash that would be.

    • beltran the warrior says:

you want toronto to give you a bona-fide ace and you want then to take a #3 at best prospect to replace him? ricciardi’s a horrible gm but he’s not THAT stupid.

  13. meatloaf says:

OK I just read my own post and realize it’s ridiculous. Too many fantasy sports.

  14. KFS says:

When did cramps become cancer? It’s a cramp for crying out loud and people are acting like he tore his achilles.

  15. Gina says:

    From mlbtraderumors

“Fernando Martinez’s possible injury could increase the Mets’ urgency to find a left fielder. For some reason, Adam Dunn is not in the mix. The Mets are in on relievers Brian Tallet, Jack Taschner, and Arthur Rhodes.”

  16. bigchart333 says:

i’d love dunn too, but i think he’s gonna test FA after this season. I’d rather just sign him than trade for him.

Trade em ALL for Halladay!!! Johan and Halladay til 2011 is RIDICULOUSSS

  17. mikepelfreyismyguy says:

moises alou was a hitting machine and he gets injured all the time, i wonder who that reminds me of in this article????

  18. Skyhigh980 says:

nononono enough of this fernando trade talk, he isnt going anywhere and I dont really want him to go anywhere, why can’t the mets just let there promising prospects grow for once and see how fernando pans out
