Baseball Musings LogoChad Cordero is unhappy with the way he found out about the Nationals decision to non-tender him this coming December.  Bowden is a frustrating general manager to analyze.  He’ll make a deal for Soriano which turns out to be brilliant, then blow the value by not trading the slugger for prospects.  He does enough good to keep his job, but he makes enough poor moves to make me wonder if he really deserves the tenure.

Ashley Fox wonders why Jimmy Rollins can’t seem to follow the two simple rules Charlie Manuel laid down for the team.

The Marlins may be missing Miguel Cabrera as they play the Cubs.  Over the previous two seasons, Cabrera hit five home runs and drove in 15 runs in twelve games against Chicago.  The Marlins were 10-2 against the Cubs in that time frame.

Chipper Jones is unlikely to play against the Phillies tonight.  The Braves are 45-44 when Jones appears, 3-9 without him.

We can only hope that Cabrera took the Marlins’ anti-Cubs mojo with him to Detroit, because I wouldn’t mind seeing Florida lose all three there.

Oh, and the Mets and in first place.

  3. Nightlife says:

Bowden along with Ed Wade are two of the worst GM’s ever.

Ladies and gentlemen, your reigning NL MVP & Phillies team leader Jimmy Rollins on his missing the start, being late, and breaking a team rule: “Oh well.”

I have no idea how Bowden still has a job. He must have some pics of the Lerners or something. Not only does he trade Rauch for a nothing prospect, but he repeatedly re-signs journeymen in the midst of career years (Young and Belliard last year, Guzman this year) rather than trade them while they still have value. The Milledge trade is also not looking too good right now, though that could turn around in the long-term. And as for signing Paul LoDuca – Nelson said it best: Ha Ha.

He did get Dukes from the Rays, although with all his off field issues they were probably trying to give him away, he was on fire before the season ending injury.

      • dcmetsfan says:

I have mixed feelings about the Duke acquisition. If he continues to be a relatively solid citizen, then the gamble paid off, because the guy could become a superstar. But when he was hitting .150 through June, it looked pretty silly to add that headache to the roster.

What are the Vegas odds on Omar trying to sign the former Expo Cordero this offseason as set up man/future closer?

  7. uppertank says:

    lets go braves!!

  8. bkfitz says:

If the Nats follow through with non-tendering Cordero, Omar Minaya will undoubtedly sign him.

  9. nobeers says:

Why do I feel like sending Chipper a get well soon card…

  10. Andrew says:

Anyone else sort of get the feeling that because the Phillies were able to come back last year, they’re sort of just confidently coasting this year, so sure of their inevitable success that they’re not even bothering to try too hard?
