Yesterday, in a post to his blog for the New York Post, citing ‘team officials,’ Joel Sherman wrote that the Mets continue to look heavily at Pirates OF Jason Bay, M’s OF Raul Ibanez and Indians OF Casey Blake.
Today in the Daily News, citing a ‘team insider,’ Rubin also writes that the team has expressed interest in Blake, Ibanez and Bay.
According to Rubin, “The belief is that those teams’ demands, currently exorbitant, will relax as Thursday’s trading deadline approaches.”
…with or without Ryan Church, i believe the Mets should make a trade for an outfielder…at this point, i have no problem with using Jon Niese or Eddie Kunz to help further invest in this current season, which is going far better than most people thought it would just 30 days ago…the Mets neglected their farm system a bit over the previous few seasons, clobbered it further with the Johan Santana trade, and so i just as soon keep depleting it while trusting that the most recent minor-league acquisitions, such as Brad Holt and Reese Havens and Wilmer Flores, are all the start of a new-and-improved farm system instead…
…in other words, as long as it’s not Fernando Martinez, who, at this point, i am not sure is even a requirement for such a deal anyways, i have no problem if minaya wants to trade niese, kunz, Mike Carp, etc, to bring in an upgrade…
…to me, this team needs a stable, reliable corner outfielder, who a) the Mets can run out there every day and know what they’ll get, b) helps to prop up the back-end of the batting order, and c) who will help return order the bench…Damion Easley, Fernando Tatis, Marlon
Anderson and Endy Chavez are not starting outfielders, they are superb bench players, which is where they best serve the team…
…bay would be nice, obviously, but ibanez or blake or even Adam Dunn would also do the trick…
Yesterday, at SNY.tv Ted Berg explained why the Mets should consider buying low on Dunn.
…the thing is, i’m not sure it’s a matter of buying low…it’s a matter of offering more than what the Reds believe they will draft with the two picks their likely to get in the off-season when dunn leaves as a free agent…
…the knock on dunn seems to be that he’s just not that smart of a baseball player…but, frankly, who cares…the Mets do not need a Gold Glove outfielder…they have endy as a defensive replacement…if he clogs the bases, they’ll adjust…and, dunn, like bay, would bring extra substance to the middle of the lineup in name recognition alone…
…ibanez does this to a less extent, as does blake, who has also played third base, shortstop and first base during his nine-year career…blake actually reminds me a lot of Xavier Nady, and he would help balance out the batting order as well as any one on minaya’s wish list…
…plus, blake is a rough player who already has his playoff beard…

At this point I font care who we get, unless it doesn’t involve F-Mart and is actually an improvement of what we have now.
Two Words.
BARRY FN BONDS!!!
K ~
Does anyone know what the chances are that the Mets will bring up FMart for a trial run? I thought that the Mets had talked about that possibility.
You don’t want Dunn trust me. YES the power is impressive and YES the OBP is also great, (and I won’t deny he’d be an upgrade) but you’ll get vert very tired of watching him fail and fail anf fail in RISP and 2 out/RISP situations
Is he that bad in those situations? I didn’t know that…
the point is dunn is a threat in the lineup that fernando and endy are not.
Dunn’s career numbers with RISP are right in line with his career numbers, except that his average is slightly lower and OBP is even higher. With two outs, the average dips slightly again, and the OBP jumps up 20 points.
Do you know what that means?
It means Dunn gets walked a whole lot with men in scoring position because HE IS ADAM DUNN AND HE COULD HIT A MOOSE OVER THE CENTER FIELD FENCE. Put him in a lineup like this and see the production:
Reyes
Beltran
Dunn
Wright
Delgado
Church
Castro
A. Reyes
I think there are much worse things than Dunn repeatedly being walked to load the bases for David Wright, eh?
let’s get manny
LOL dream on
really?
http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2008/07/26/now_hes_a_guaranteed_out/
wow, saw the article and we have a chance to get him. that would be an amazing pick up
Don’t have time to read other sites. Who would it take to get Manny?
I proposed Perez for Manny straight up after the Yankees series, but now I don’t think Manny is enough in return to part with Perez. They would need to add a starter.
I put so much value on Perez in such a deal because he mows down lefty-oriented lineups, Yanks especially. I’m sure Boston has noticed.
http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2008/07/26/now_hes_a_guaranteed_out/
That was all bolgna that some crazy Sox fan made up… He’ll be a Red Sock for the rest of the season…
IMO if we trade someone like Niese or Evans it should be in a package for a player we’ll keep for more than one season. Although of the players on that list the only one I would want us to keep is Bay and I’d imagine he’d cost F-mart, Niese, Evans and possibly more. Of course with the Pirates front office who knows.
Bay is in his 5th year at ML level.. he makes 6 mil a year and has one year of arb eligibility left..
i dont think he’ll end up costing FMart… given what Nady went for.
I thought he signed an extension with the pirates back in 2004? I think he only has one year left on the deal though.
the fact the pirates just traded nady makes it less likely they are going to trade bay, they still want to show the fans they are willing to put a winning team out there.
you’re right Gina .. they signed him for 4 years in 2006 thru 2009..
Cots says he is owed 5.75 in 08 and 7.5 in 09 .. so even better., .. seems cheap to just buy out one year of free agency.
Also I really don’t see Ibanez as that much of an upgrade over Tatis at this point.
The Mets desperately need a starting pitcher. Pedro and El Duque are goners and Perez might join that group in the offseason. They need a number 5 to solidify this year’s team and on to next year as well. An outfielder would be nice, but I like Chavez and Tatis until Church comes back. I also love F Mart if he can stay injury free.
As for relief, they should stick with what is working for them right now and sink or swim with the crew they put together for this year.
In reality, outfielders and RPs who are available will not make such an impact on the Mets to get them to the playoffs without the core group on the team performing as they should perform
Question for everyone, in theory, if they were to go after a number 4 or 5 starter, who is out there? Since most people disagree with me on my starter need, I have not read much about who is being shopped around.
Desperately need..a..STARTING PITCHER!?
No we don’t, not at all. In fact, that’s one of our last concerns. Santana, Pelfrey, Maine, and Ollie have all been doing fine jobs. When you have four pitchers pitching well, you don’t need a fifth (especially with the huge holes we have in the outfield, and less so in relief).
Yes we’ll need a starter…..in the offseason.
Johan Maine Pelfrey and….. ???
But for now, we’re ok.
God help Omar, he’s got a hard decision in Ollie
Hence why we need to keep players like Niese in the farm system
i dont think bay will cost f-mart. but definately niese, evans or carp etc.
Who cares. As far as I’m concerned, the Pirates could have all three in return for Bay.
If Ollie leaves, you may need Niese for next year as a #5
i think evans, carp and a pitcher not Niese is a fair price.
ibanez is a clutch veteran bat and is way better than what we have. anyone getting out of that disaster seattle will be rejuvenated
I don’t like the idea of Raul Ibanez because hes just another left handed bat. Dunn brings alot of power, but again… hes another left handed bat, whose average is horid against LHP. Blake and Bay are the best bet. Get either one that we would give up less for….
Getting Bay would be huge!!!!!!
No it wouldn’t
I agree Dunn is no. He’s batting .198 vs lefties. Blake would be better. I still like Randy Winn.
The Mets MUST get another outfielder. They may win the east without one, but forget anything past that. And if I have to watch Marlon Anderson anymore I will go nuts! In the end anything is better than anderson, bring up Fmart, tade for Dunn/Winn/Blake/Bay/Ibanez. NO MORE MARLON!!!
Bay is clearly the best guy out there, but I just don’t see it happening. I’d be content with Blake though.
I really don’t want Ibanez or Winn though.
I hope to god the Mets do not get Dunn, Giles or Ibanez
I agree with DB-Mets, Blake and Bay are the best bet but I would prefer getting Bay, even if it cost one extra prospect
yes, bay is the best option, he is in his prime and a proven run producer.
reyes
beltran
wright
deldago
bay
church
easley
schneider/castro
thats a potent lineup!!!!!!!
get it done!!!
If Delgado can stay producing like he his than that is fine, but I have a feeling he will cool off eventually. Also Beltran, I think will get hot and Jerry will put him back in the cleanup spot. Heres mine
Reyes
Church
Wright
Beltran
Bay
Delgado
2B
C
dont forget delgado has always been a secon hlaf player to being with
I love the idea of 40 homers and 100 RBIs from Dunn though. He’d be sitting in the middle of a lot better line-up in NY then what he has in Cinci. Unfortunately it isn’t what we need. We need a clutch hitter who can hit against LHP.
I’m no expert and I’m prob wrong but, I think the righties and lefties thing is over blown
I think it’s overblown to an extent but there is some validity to it it really depends on the pitchers delivery. Perez is a good example of this, his delivery makes it damn near impossible for lefties to hit him.
Although FWIW, Dunn’s numbers against lefties this year are better than Bay’s. And he has a career .838 OPS against lefties. Bay’s career is higher but both are good.
Blake or Bay. We need a right-handed bat in the line-up. Blake, if we want more flexibility as he can play other positions. Bay, if we want the better bat.
FYI.
Jason Bay is batting .203 vs lefties this year and batted .227 vs last year. Ibanez .306 this year and .256 last.
and
r u joking? Oliver Perez for Manny Ramirez. It would take alot more than Perez. And hopefully Omar isn’t even thinking about that.
I really think it would take more than Manny to get Perez.
Bays Career splits are 283 /279 BA and 889/910 OPS
given what the Pirates got for Nady (AND Marte) I wonder what they would accept for Bay?
you could argue that Nady cost Tabata and one of the pitchers.. so would Bay cost two prospects?
if they want Major League ready maybe Evans (on current 25 man) and a pitcher is enough
Get Bay, and give up everyone necessary except FMart.
After looking at cj’s stats. Blake is definitely the best bet. I wouldn’t even bother with Bay if hes batting only .207 against LHP.
Dunn is almost the 2nd best bet in my mind now because of his high OBP and his three years of 40 homers and 100 rbis make him look better.
the last year and a half in Pitt i think was a aberation for Bay.. he is clearly frustrated there..
prior to 07 he raked lefties.. in 07 he did poorly and 08 the same.
It has been written that he may not be the best suited for playing in NY…
thats the Canada thing.. i dont think it applies as he will be a complimentary player here and not the main big dog..
as i think about it more id do evans carp and a lesser pitcher..
i think ike davis is the future at firat base and hes 21 years old vs Carp at 22+ ,, Davis and reese havens is gonna advance quickly..
id rather keep Niese at the cost of Carp
How about Evans as the future at first base? I know it’s a small sample size but Davis looks like he’s a long long long way away so far. He has like one walk in 120 abs and is struggling mightily with the bat. Havens looks like he’ll advance quickly but he’s also caught the injury bug.
yeah.. Evans looks good.. he’s 22 YO as well..
evans loks a little skinny (180 lbs vs 205 for Carp) to wind up a big masher at a corner spot.
I guess im not too worried about first base.. its not that hard to find first basemen and im assuming evans goes as a piece for Bay..
to win this year we need to get Bay at the cost of Evans, Carp and maybe a lesser pitcher then fill in a future 1bman in the system
i can’t believe people are rushing to judgment over ike davis already. he’s been in pro ball for what? a month? and his progress is already a concern? can we let the kid get acclimated to pro ball first?
No one’s rushing to judgment, I’m saying it doesn’t make any sense to assume we can trade a first basemen because we have Davis, since he hasn’t produced yet.
Also he’s playing in rookie ball, it’s not like he’s in AA. And one of the biggest reasons we drafted him, and Havens, is because they were supposed to be able to shoot through the system and make it to the big league club soon, Havens adjusted very quickly but Davis hasn’t, so I would say it’s a small cause for concern.
i agree.. they were both drafted as fast movers so let them move fast.. right now Davis is blocked at AA by Carp and evans to a lesser extent.
he’s in rook ball cause he was just drafted ..he’ll probably move to high A or even AA next year
Guys, this lefty righty crap is totally over blown…
“if he clogs the bases”
Yeah. God forbid he gets on base…
Yeah, I hate it when guys who run slowly get on base, man. How absolutely useless. Like Robinson Cancel, for example. Look how slow he runs. He should just never even bother with getting hits.
That’s Dusty Baker talk – clogs the bases – truly, completely insane. Would you rather have Dunn on second and Jose on first, or just Jose on second? Do you want a double to score two runs or one run? Do you want a HR to score three runs or two runs?
I am Dusty Baker, and as far as I’m concerned the only reason for guys to get on base is so the pitcher can pitch out of the stretch.
Actually Cancel runs very well for somebody his size. The Mets’ announcers have alluded to it on more than one occasion.
Where’s Ken Tremendous when you need him?
I’ll try this again without the incredibly long link ( but if anyone wants it let me know).
Last week when the Mets were in Cincy, a post on the Cincinatti Inquirer’s fan forum was titled ” BIG FAT DUMB USELESS LOAFING PATHETIC DONKEY” …
There were 143 responses, and almost all agreed with the sentiment expressed in the header regarding Dunn.
While I won’t put too much stock in the scouting prowess of emotional fans on a message board, ( see metsblog), especially when their team isn’t doing as well as they hoped, it can’t help but give me pause as to whether this is a player that we want on the Mets…
If you go back about a month here, you’ll see similar things about Johan, Delgado, Beltran, Wagner, Perez if you go back like 2.5 months you’ll see people calling Wright and Reyes overrated and saying we need to trade Reyes since he’s all tools and will never reach his potential. IMO I wouldn’t put much stock into the opinions of fans, especially on a team, that like you said, is performing terribly.
Also FWIW our team OPS against lefties is the exact same as our team OPS against righties.
And our BA against lefties is 7 points higher.
Why would we want to acquire Dunn or Ibanez? We should be looking for a RH bat. Those guys are not the optimal choices.
Nady might have been.
Hey Matt,
Please avoid using the expression “clogs the bases” to describe Adam Dunn (or any other player who gets on base a whole lot). He may be a slow runner, but so are the majority of baseball players.
His OBP is a robust .386, which would be second only to Mr. Wright’s .389 on the Mets. This is a terrific OBP. Couple that with the fact he’ll probably hit another 11-15 HR’s the rest of the year, and you’ve got an extremely productive offensive player. He would be second on the Mets in NOT MAKING OUTS, which is the aim of a baseball hitter don’t you think?
Say “clogs the bases” makes you sound like Dusty Baker or John Kruk or Steve Phillips. I’d recommend not using it.
Keep up the good work and Go Mets!
With Dunn batting in the lower half of the lineup, he is a base clogger. It’s very likely that even if Dunn is batting 5th of 6th, he’d still be on base by the time the pitcher gets up
@Ravin108
Can you define a “base clogger” for me? Do you mean a guy who gets on base at a .380 clip but can’t run?
Would you rather have Dunn, a guy who gets on at .380 and can’t run, or Endy Chavez, a guy who gets on at .300 but can run? It’s pretty tough to score runs when NO ONE is on base don’t you think?
The term “base clogger” needs to disappear FAST. It is so ignorant and ridiculous it’s not even funny.
For Ibanez and Blake, it’ll probably be Kunz and Carp. If it were Matt Holliday (not like the Rockies will trade him anyway), I’d offer Niese, Kunz and Carp. Why Kunz? You can always convert a closer in the minors. As for Adam Dunn, I wouldn’t touch the guy even with a 10 foot pole! The man strikes out too much and he must be used to the losing ways in Cincinnati.
I could live with dealing Kunz and Carp
get dunn bat him second. he will get a lot of fastballs and can crush them.
You’re being generous with our prospects. Did you actually look at the players traded for Marte and X-man? I’m still flabbergasted by how small the package was in terms of talent.
Tabata was the only big name – and he’s haunted by reports of a bad attitude, a .248 BA with 3 homers, etc., not the prospect he may once have been.
Phil Coke? One site had him at 28 years old, the other 26 this August. He’s the only one with good stats in that whole package and he hasn’t even cracked AAA in his late twenties.
Ohlendorf? 6.28 era in his big league stint?
Cashman must have pictures of their GM in a compromising position or something!
Anyway, I’m just saying there’s what teams reportedly are asking, then the reality of what they got (bag of autographed balls). Glad I’m not a Pirates fan.
@Vegasmet
Rather than base your opinion on Adam Dunn on emotional message boarders, why not take a logical approach and look at his stats?
First off, Dunn is not a good fielder, and a slow runner, which is bad. But check out these numbers:
.234/.386/.547 (thats batting average, on base %, slugging %)
29 HR, 68 RBI
Now, that batting average is low, but that is an almost meaningless stat. The last 2 are what’s important. His OBP would be 2nd to D-Wright, and his SLG would lead the team (by 30! points). Adam Dunn is a HR hitting and Walking machine. He is an EXTREMELY productive offensive player.
It is unfortunate that most fans only see his low Batting Average and high K totals (both are not nearly as important as OBP and SLG) and not for the true hitter he is. GET ADAM DUNN IF YOU CAN METS!!
JamesK,
Thanks for the stats. Since you break this down to numbers, how about a home/away split. After witnessing three games @ GABP, I’m decidedly unimpressed with slugging % ,and even OBP, since pitchers would be inclined to pitch around a slugger in a ball park where HR’s can be hit by batters who are bailing out and swinging off the wrong foot…
His numbers on the road this year and for his career are just as good.
Adam Dunn does not hit cheapie “ballpark adjusted” homeruns. He’s all or nothing, wayyy outta here homeruns or strikeouts. He would look good in our lineup with a few more people on base for him. He can also play first base in the event that Delgado leaves after this year or next.
@Vegasmet
3 things:
1. Go to http://www.hittrackeronline.com to check out home run distances for all home runs. Dunn has led all of MLB in “no doubt homeruns” (i.e. gone in any park) the last 2 years. His homers average 410 ft. per blast… WOW!
2. Here are his home and road stats:
Home: .235/.380/.536 (batting average, OBP, Slugging)
Road: .233/.392/.560
HE HAS BEEN BETTER ON THE ROAD! WOW!
3. If you are unimpressed by OBP and Slugging (by far the two most important stats) what are you impressed by? Batting average? Stolen Bases? Runs scored? Please clarify.
In closing… GET ADAM DUNN IF YOU CAN METS!
re: JamesK
If you’ll re-read my post, what I said was that those stats don’t impress me at that ballpark. During the recent series I saw several balls leave the yard that were just plain absurd!
That’s not to say that Dunn’s blasts are necessarily cheap, and according to you and some other posters here, his numbers are equally good away from home, so it may not be relevant in his case. I was merely asking the question, as I’m not a ” stat-head.”
Still, going back to my original point, such intense vitriol from the team’s fan base concerns me a bit.I suspect that similar sentiments may soon arise on Metsblog.
Of course, as you say I probably shouldn’t put much stock in the opinions of “experts” on a fan forum, which begs the question…Why should I pay any attention to your take on this…?
(Just teasing…)
dunn can hit them out of the grand canyon.
And if the Rockies want a 4th player, it’ll have to be a marginal guy in the Nick Evans mold.
Go for Bay. Our farm system is already shot.
I know there’s been no buzz about this, but what about calling up Houston and seeing what it would take to get Carlos Lee. Talent-wise he would take alot of talent to get but wouldn’t Houston want to unload that contract considering the’re going no where (although maybe they dont think that considering the Wolf trade).
maybe but hes getting old.
According to MLBtraderumors the yankees-pirates deal was reconfigured.
Breaking: Yankees-Pirates Deal Reconfigured
By Alejandro Leal [July 26 at 10:59am CST]
The LoHud Yankees Blog reports the Xavier Nady, Damaso Marte deal has been reconfigured:
The Yankees are sending RHP Dan McCutchen, RHP Jeff Karstens, OF Jose Tabata and RHP Ross Ohlendorf to Pittsburgh for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte.
LHP Phil Coke and RHP George Kontos are not in the deal.
are those other two pitchers any better?
i don’t think so. why did the trade get reconfigured. the pirates should have atleast kept Coke in the trade.
Just read on ESPN.com that Blake is headed to the Dodgers for minor leaguers.
another one bites the dust… Great.
Omar must be seriously unwilling to give up anything. Its so important that we get a Right handed bat and now the two best options are gone.
Our team numbers against left handed pitchers are almost identical to our numbers against right handed ones, the only difference our BAA lefties is like 7 points lower. I don’t think it’s that important that we get a righty.
When castillo returns, we have three switch hitters, a platoon catcher, and a right handed 3B – that’s only three lefties in the field against left handers if/when Church returns. We need the best bat, not the best RH bat.
JASON BAY
Bay is going to cost FMart plus he said he wants to play for the Blue Jays. Anyone know how long his contact is for?
get bay trade him to the blue jays for rios and one of their relievers
I was just thinking that..
but you would think that if the Jays wanted Bay they would make a deal themselves.. Bay made it no secret he wants to play in Canada.
Bay is signed thru 2009 for 5.75 in 08 and 7.5 in 09
With Blade, Nady off the market. Why not start thinking big. I’ve said this name b/f but if, and I stress IF, the Astros would consider trading C.LEE- what could we give up to trade for him. F-Mart, Niese (dont want to but u gotta give up some talent), Kunz, Evans, Parnell, Carp, and Murphy would all be in play for me.
IMO, trading for Carlos Lee would be an incredibly short sighted move. His shape makes him a big injury/decline risk. In fact he doesn’t look like he’s that far away from needing to dh now. And he’s only two years into that big contract so he’d take up a big chunk of the money coming off the books next year, I think we have 43 million coming off?, he’d take up a little under half of that, which we’ll need for pitchers. And he would likely cost so much in terms of prospects that we’d in even worse shape than we are now for trades if something happened next year.
All your points are valid, but my thinking is we’re going to need another middle of the line-up guy at then end of this yr. Despite Delgado’s resurgence, I dont expect him to be back next season-I dont think the Mets will pick up his 09 option.
Middle of the order guys are hard to come by, and as much as I would love the Mets to be in the Teixeira sweepstakes- I think he’s going to the Yanks. So where are the options from there. Again, my thinking was predicated on his asking price being lower b/c of his contract.
y not give up on f mart. the kid is never healthy and if he is so highly ranked. u could probably trade him stargiht up for a proven outfeilder
He would have to be part of a package for a big bat but Im not dead against your thinking.
Its time to worry about Duaner. His fastball is down 6 mph since the injury and his change up is thus ineffective. Last night his change was at 83 and his fastball at 88. We all know that doesn’t work. If Duaner is done our bullpen is in serious jeopardy.
sources say blake is close to going to the dodgers for two prospects. read it on espn
Orz…… i thought the mets should have gotten Blake, he would have atleast be a better option than Jason Bay due to him being able to play different positions.
I think Omar may need to pull the trigger on his OFer sooner rather than later. The players that the Mets have had cross-hairs on are being picked up, quicker than I thought.
If Church can come back producing like he was, there is no need for a guy like Dunn or Bay. The Mets would then be better suited with a guy like Blake(who is believe is going to LA so nevermind) Winn, or Ibanez
The assumption there is that Church recovers from an injury that has ended several people’s careers AND continues to have the best season of his career by a huge margin. Not. Gonna. Happen.
Looks like new reports are saying Blake is going to the Dodgers. I just hope the Mets keep their cool and don’t overpay as the pool of available players shrinks. I think the Mets will do fine once Church comes back, and we platoon left field.
Yankees – Pirates deal has been reconfigured. Its for RHP Dan McCutchen, RHP Jeff Karstens, OF Jose Tabata and RHP Ross Ohlendorf now.
put kobe bryant in left
No more Blake. :(
And traded for two A-ballers no less.
The Dodgers on the verge of getting Casey Blake. The Indians would get minor leaguer catcher Carlos Santana, right handed pitcher Jon Meloan and cash in return.
Wow, I think we could have matched/exceeded that easily.
I see some people throwing out lineups based on who the Mets get to man the corner outfield spots. I want to address some of those statements first and foremost.
#1 I don’t think we can COUNT on anything from Ryan Church just yet. We don’t know how long it will take for him to come back and how long he is back if he’s able to return. That makes getting a corner outfielder all the more important to me.
#2 I will make reference to who I would get if I had the choice, but I saw some lineups and both had Beltran staying in the 4 or 5 hole???? Why??? If we can get a Bay, Dunn, Blake, they should take the 5 spot, Beltran should move back to the #2 hole and see what happens. Beltran is not hitting the ball with any consistency, and I think being in between Reyes and Wright would be enough to get his bat going.
As for who we get, I don’t know that I care if its a righty or lefty bat we get, because its all about production. This team hits lefties well so I don’t know where everyone is going on and on about how we need another right handed bat in the lineup. When the opposing team throws a lefty, Delgado is the only left handed bat that will definitely be in the lineup.
For that reason I would like to get in order of preference: Dunn, Bay, Blake. Adam Dunn is a masher who has played for a terrible team his entire career. He might be inspired by a chance to make the playoffs and he is the most feared batter of the 3. Bay is probably the best all around player of the 3. Blake is good, but I think if we are going to trade any piece of the minor league system, it has to be for a difference maker. Bay could be, Dunn is a difference maker. I don’t see that out of Blake, but he is versatile so who knows. I do know the Mets need to do something, and am sure they will. LETS GO METS!!!
omar is going to pull off some crazy trade weather its good or not. us met fans are going to me shocked lol i bet its going to happen. trade the farm for MATT STAIRS
take out Kunz and add another prospect and its a deal as long as Fuentes signs an extension
Please get a Corner OF!! Trade anyone!! Get Bay or Holliday!! Omar we need to win Now!!
Deplete the farm further, that’s idiotic Matt
Screw the system. Who cares if we win the World Series that we don;t have a system.
How bout Martinez, Neise, Kunz and Carp for Holliday and fUENTES
If we take out Kunz and add another prospect and its a deal as long as Fuentes signs an extension
Bay will definitely cost more than Nady, but IMO the Pirates could have gotten more for Nady and Marte, even after the reconfigured trade. I would love to do a Carp, Evans, Kunz for Bay and Grabow deal.
why would the pirates make that deal?
Honestly, I am not entirely worried about our season. Our most recent pickups in the draft are doing very well. Furthermore, we have a lot of free agents on our team that we will probably be getting draft picks for. We can replenish then. I do think that trying to get a top caliber outfielder is 1/2 of the full step to building a WS favorite. A reliever being the last 1/2 step.
Whoops, farm system.
dodgers close to getting blake.according to mlb.com
omar get bay before he is gone!!
Well, looks like Blake is most likely out of the question. MLB.com reports the dodgers are close to signing him. The prospects are believed to be Triple-A pitcher Jon Meloan and Class A catcher (and famous guitarist, ok, j/k obviously…) Carlos Santana.
Blake is officially a Dodger.
Hey Cerrone, I posted a response to your commentary on my blog. I’d love to debate you on Dunn.
You don’t score runs with name recognition.
Correct. Over the course of baseball history, runs are correlated with OBP and slugging %, much more so than with anything else (well, unless you get into the much more analytical sabermetric stats). If only there were an undervalued outfielder who excelled in exactly the things that mattered for scoring runs out there for us to get…
I disagree with Matt’s entire assesment.
