  1. lil pelf says:

    let’s go mets!

  2. teufelshuffle86 says:

Is a well played game by both the offense and the bullpen in support of Santana too much to ask? Let’s get it done!!

    LETS GO METS!!!

  3. MetsFan4Decades says:

Go Mets! Get it done, Johan. BP needs a rest today….

Guessing same as last night – Tatis in LF, Endy in RF?

  4. Just rebound from last night, forget about it; go out and get a good win.

  5. Church4prez says:

LETS GO METS!!! GET IBANEZ OMAR!!

  6. Lord Charles Curveball says:

Endy’s the human proof of the law of diminishing returns. The more you see of his bat, the less you want to see.

And I know he hit around .300 in 2006, but he’s not a good 2-hole hitter. His OBP is relatively low and he doesn’t do enough damage to fastballs with Reyes on base to keep pitchers honest. (Last night’s 3 bagger aside, he also hit into 3 1-3 groundouts.)

  7. jimmyk456 says:

    i love carlos delgado

  8. Church4prez says:

r we playin this game?? it is a monsoon here on LI

    • skylog says:

from the radar it looks as if it will get played, as after the one storm coming through there is nothing behind it for a few states to the west

  9. bigvito22 says:

Wagner pitched 2 innings yesterday…is he available? I hope so…

Although a CG for Johan would shut up the critics from last week’s game. LET’S GO METS!!!

  10. DavidDog says:

Can this game be seen on TV??? who’s showing it?

  11. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

someone please tell me i can watch this game. no mets or cardinals ?

  12. Church4prez says:

    IBANEZ 2B!! GET HIM OMAR

  13. Church4prez says:

    here we go bb already

  14. bigvito22 says:

    NICE double play!!!

  15. Church4prez says:

    DP YES!!!

  16. Church4prez says:

    8 pitches nice

  17. Church4prez says:

    swung at ball 4

  18. bigvito22 says:

Ugh swinging at 3-0, as hot as Delgado has been, I hate that call.

  19. Wright88 says:

    damn…3-0 dp.

  20. skylog says:

killer there. it is always easy to say after the fact, but i am not the biggest fan of swinging 3-0. in that spot, first inning, i take the walk if it is there.

    • therealsince86 says:

      obviously.

      • skylog says:

that is the kicker, perhaps obvious to most of us, but not to the people that actually matter.

    • 911nafstem says:

Yeah, most intelligent people would feel that way, but the Mets have been awfully charitable to pitchers the last couple of games.

  21. Wright88 says:

I understand the call, up against a pitcher who doesn’t walk a lot of people with your hottest hitter up. The execution was just lacking.

  22. skylog says:

not to mention the rain that may come shortly. i would feel better with a lead, even if it would be 1-0. it looks as if it could be nasty for a bit before it passes, perhaps killing them by making them take johan out.

  23. AngryFan says:

    Now 1 for 17 w/RISP

    • skylog says:

oh man, got to clean the slate after last nite. i don’t want to play that game, it may hurt too much. i will take 0-1 and hope it goes up from there.

watch beltran will drive one somewhere

  24. bigvito22 says:

    Solid inning!!!

  25. therealsince86 says:

What’s the news on Church? When is his “expected” return?
That has to be decided to determine how aggressive we HAVE to be this week in trades. IF Church is expected to be back to normal then go get Winn. If not then I would try and get Huff. Of course I would also check in on Dunn. If he can be had for the same as the 2 draft picks then I would go for it. If he sucks he would still be an upgrade overall. It’s not like you HAVE to keep him next season. You can just get the draft picks back.

    • Wright88 says:

I think they said he needs like 8 minor league games, he should be back something like mid August. Though, I forgot the details.

    • Gina says:

From what I understand he’s been cleared to resume “light cardiovascular activities”. I remember someone posting in here about a week ago that team doctors really couldn’t agree on a timetable to expect him back. But IMO at this point I’m not holding my breathe.

Also according to mlbtraderumors we’ve shown no interest in Dunn. Which I don’t understand but w/e.

      • Wright88 says:

He just isn’t that good and will command a pretty big amount of prospects.

      • therealsince86 says:

The way that Omar works then that maybe he IS the target then.

      • Church4prez says:

dunn is a loser with no heart and passion

        • therealsince86 says:

Not starting this with you again. You have no proof of anything you say. We have became more ignorant just reading your post. Thank you for your time and may god have mercy on your soul.

    • skylog says:

i think i read here he is expected to be back in rehab for 6 games in the minors before returning to the club…..so, they won’t really know what to expect until after the deadline.

it is a tough spot, b/c if church can’t truly come back, then a deal has to be done, whereas if he does come back, perhaps a deal is not a do or die spot.

  26. 911nafstem says:

I hate the Phils, but the Cards are a close second. How the hell did the Mets blow the game last night? I realize that the umpires were completely incompetent, but they had SOO many chances.

  27. MetsFan1989 says:

man beltran can be 50/50 agaisnt a pitcher and take an 0 fer

    • Wright88 says:

Well when Beltran is cold, he is ice cold. Soon enough he will go on one of his extremely hot hot streaks.

  28. KL15 says:

I don’t mean to pick on Delgado, but in the first inning, MAKE HIM THROW YOU A STRIKE!! Why are you offering at a pitch that low on 3-0 with 2 on?

  29. Church4prez says:

    TATIS

  30. MetsFan1989 says:

    automatic out now. risp

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Not necessarily. They did get 8 runs in first 9 innings last night. Just couldn’t get that one across in extras…..

    • skylog says:

there you go. you called it. 0-2 (ok, ok, 1-18)…..but maybe johan can get hinself a run

  31. Wright88 says:

    hit one out Johan!

  32. AngryFan says:

Now 1 for 19 with RISP

    I’m getting really pi**ed here…

  33. Church4prez says:

    1 for 18

  34. bigvito22 says:

Looks like Johan’s going another day without a win……..nah jk, but the offense has to seriously step it up. No excuses now that they’ve seen Lohse

  35. MetsFan4Decades says:

Storm blowing in here on the Jersey shore. Heading for Queens?

    • el_giacomo says:

Yup. Should be hitting Queens in about 30-45 minutes or so…

Luckily the heaviest rains are to the north and south of NY at the moment.

  36. KL15 says:

This teams fundamentals are really starting to irritate me. I fear they’re on their way back down.

  37. AngryFan says:

And when does Beltran grace us with his precence?

  38. Church4prez says:

i can hear the boos now, blanton gettin lit up

  39. AngryFan says:

    Joe Blanton already losing lol

    • adam11216 says:

this just in: blanton sucks, beane fleeces another gm.

      • MetsFan1989 says:

beane seems he always knows when his players reached they talent adn strat to delcine so he gets the best of them. he is a smart guy lol

    • skylog says:

not going to play this game after that game yesterday. still, he he he

      • adam11216 says:

well, even if the phils end up winning, blanton still sucks. he’s going to get wrecked pitching in CBP.

  40. Wright88 says:

LaRussa is an idiot. Hitting the pitcher 8th

    • Gina says:

How does that make him an idiot? Personally I think it would be a good idea for us to do, Reyes hits well with runners on and hits for pretty decent power, it would give him more rbi opportunities if we put someone who gets on base but can’t really do anything else like Castillo 8th. .

      • Wright88 says:

But the stats show that Pujols gets no more runners on in front of him with the pitcher in the 8th than if the pitcher was hitting 9th. Its a good theory, but it doesn’t apply to the game.

        • Gina says:

It’s not just about Pujols it’s about the hitters 1-4, for us , but the stats also show the Cardinals offense is better in every avg, slugging, obp, and runs scored per game, when they bat the pitcher 8th.

    • skylog says:

i get what he is doing and it seems to be hurting him more than helping, at least this series, but…..he has won a few thousand games more than me, so i am not going to call him an idiot.

    • KL15 says:

That’s been a strategy he’s had all year. I don’t get it either.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

let me know when u get a resume like him. okay?

  41. Church4prez says:

    24 pitches. CMON OFFENSE

  42. Gina says:

It looks like we’re going to knock Lohse out early, hopefully their bullpen is shot.

  43. KL15 says:

    Nice hit Jose.

  44. AngryFan says:

    OH NO….ANOTHER RISP :(

  45. Church4prez says:

    cmon score here

  46. Church4prez says:

    i think he was out

  47. MetsFan4Decades says:

Watch, they’ll reverse this call here….

  48. skylog says:

    screwed again? here it comes

  49. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Wow. Call stands. Good.

  50. KL15 says:

He was out, but that’s baseball. PLEASE GET A RUN HERE!

  51. el_giacomo says:

    nice

  52. reyesnwright says:

We got a hit with RISP!!!

  53. skylog says:

thank god, if they did not send endy first pitch i was goingn to freak

  54. therealsince86 says:

That has got to be the first time all year that we have gotten a break in one of those situations.

  55. reyesnwright says:

I’m so used to them over turning calls incorrectly, I thought for sure they would over turn that where it looked like he was out…

  56. skylog says:

wright NEEDS a hit here, no grounder, sac fly……a HIT

  57. AngryFan says:

Oh for gods sake….David has maybe 3 big hits all year.

  58. MetsFan4Decades says:

Damn. Couldn’t he have got that fly a little deeper?
    Sigh….

O.K., Carlos will get it done here.

  59. Church4prez says:

o my god please enoughuh here

  60. KL15 says:

Atta boy DW. You offer at pitches you have no business offering at, and you take pitches you should hack.

    • skylog says:

i won’t often rip on daivd, but are 100 spot on here

      • KL15 says:

Don’t get me wrong, I love DW. And if he continues to improve he could go to the Hall of Fame. But his plate approach lately is driving me insane.

  61. therealsince86 says:

    Wow, Wright.

  62. AngryFan says:

Anyone else see a scoreless inning coming ?

  63. skylog says:

are you kidding me? this is starting to really get annoying

  64. Church4prez says:

    what is keith talkin about?

  65. Wright88 says:

    lol, so negative. C’mon Delgado

  66. reyesnwright says:

damn…should have been 2 runs there…oh well at least endy didn’t get caught, that would have been just great.

  67. AngryFan says:

Only 1 run when you had 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs and your heart of the order up….what a disappointment.

  68. Church4prez says:

    lucky

  69. skylog says:

whew. glad for the run, but man they need hits there. maybe carlos will start his hot streak here

  70. el_giacomo says:

    sac fly works

  71. MetsFan4Decades says:

Every run counts. I’ll take it, even if an out go along with it. In the old days, that would have been a ground out or K for Delgado…

  72. AngryFan says:

    Beltran shows up HOORAY

  73. Wright88 says:

    Take that

  74. Church4prez says:

    F’n aguayo he was dead

  75. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Wos. Beltran comes though.
And man did Endy get lucky there……

  76. skylog says:

man, i thought he was gunned…..great job carlos!!!!!!

  77. Steve in DC says:

    BelTRON!

  78. adam11216 says:

bel-TRON! cards can’t hold onto the ball.

  79. Wright88 says:

BTW is it just me or is Endy not that fast. He doesn’t really steal and he just doesn’t seem that fast

    • therealsince86 says:

He isn’t. His speed is very overrated.

    • adam11216 says:

i think he definitely has better than average speed, but the fact that he always seems to take the best route to the ball in the OF makes him look like he’s fast.

  80. el_giacomo says:

    yes!!!!!!!

  81. therealsince86 says:

Endy must have some type of magic dust considering he should have been out 3 times. LOL.

  82. MetsFan4Decades says:

Did you just hear that stat on Tatis? 16 for 36 with two strikes on him in the month of July? Damn, that’s good.

  83. adam11216 says:

lohse is gonna be out by the fifth.

  84. Wright88 says:

Damn, I thought he got into that one

  85. AngryFan says:

    There’s a 2-0 lead.

    Johan, the gauntlet is thrown.

    HOLD THAT LEAD

  86. Church4prez says:

    johan has 2 hold it

  87. jimmyk456 says:

    hes got an edge baby

  88. MetsFan4Decades says:

Nasty storm right over us here on the Jersey shore right now. Maybe it will stall and stay here until we get through the top of the fifth, 2 runs up – lol.

Of course, I’ll probably be losing power very shortly which always happens during these storms and miss the rest of the game…..

  89. Steve in DC says:

We have a deluge of biblical proportions here in DC. Get to the 5th, call it official.

    Love the quick innings, Santana!!

  90. Church4prez says:

    johan is goin 9 tonight

  91. Wright88 says:

Does a rain shortened, you know what still count?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

They get through the top of the fifth, with the home team in the lead – and the game is called on account of rain (rain delay goes on and on so they call it), it’s an official game.

  92. Church4prez says:

huge storm here last hour on LI. massive rain

  93. MetsFan4Decades says:

Johan looking sharp today. 33 pitches. He knows the BP needs the day off – lol…..

  94. CaveManJoe says:

I guess Santana decided his pitch count better be way under 100 by the 9th if he actually wants to get a W.

  95. Nightlife says:

    Johan looking hell of sharp.

  96. Church4prez says:

    rain delay at the bank

  97. Wright88 says:

That’s why I wouldn’t get Dunn, we already get guys on based with walks. We need someone to drive them in, which Dunn doesn’t do

    • Gina says:

Driving runners in isn’t a skill set. Have you seen Dunn’s slugging percentage? If someone gets on base in front of him he’s perfectly capable of driving them.

      • therealsince86 says:

Just give it up Gina. We can both just hope quietly. Some fans are just too hung up on old stats and can not understand OPS.

        • Wright88 says:

I understand OPS, but I’m looking at BA with RISP. All OPS means is that he walks or when he does get hits with RISP they’re double or HR’s. You still have to look at the BA.

        • therealsince86 says:

Depending on what spot in the lineup you are hitting. His batting average with RISP is actually higher than his normal average.

        • Wright88 says:

          Thats not saying much though.

  98. Flushing_is_Burning says:

33 pitches in 4 innings!! Wow someone has to put a gag order on Gary cohen

  99. el_giacomo says:

Lookin’ like a decent chance that the heaviest rain cells will miss NYC to the north and south. Things can change quick, but that’s the way it looks at the moment. There will definitely be some rain, though.

  100. MetsFan1989 says:

get through this inning with the lead johan

  101. NYCESQ says:

Anyone doubting that Santana wasn’t an Ace, please stop talking about baseball. You obviously know nothing about it.

  102. KL15 says:

Here we are, top of the fifth. If Santana can get three outs and no runs………how’s the weather looking?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Storm still on top of us here on the Jersey shore.
Rain delay in Philly right now.

  103. KL15 says:

    OH BOY…..

  104. el_giacomo says:

    awwwwwwwwwww darn

  105. CaveManJoe says:

now we can talk about it – damn it’s never gonna happen.

  106. KL15 says:

Does it bother anyone else that Johan can’t seem to get ground balls?

    • reyesnwright says:

He got a pretty big one in the first inning, the only other time there was anyone on base…

    • Gina says:

He’s known for being a flyball pitcher isn’t he? And he’s actually getting a much higher percentage of ground balls this year than he has in his last few seasons.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

he is a fly ball pitcheer

  107. NYCESQ says:

Did WPIX just lose signal for 2 minutes for anyone?

  108. MetsFan4Decades says:

‘And we know have an official game at Shea’….

  109. Nightlife says:

Only 49 pitches for Johan through 5.

  110. KL15 says:

It really wouldn’t bother me if this game got called because of rain. After last night’s marathon I would rather see the team catch an early flight to Florida.

  111. MetsFan4Decades says:

So JReyes did get married two days ago. Contrats.
Maybe she’ll be a good influence on him and he’ll be a bit more steady in the field…..

  112. el_giacomo says:

Extremely unlikely the game will be called. Delayed, yes, but not called.

  113. MetsFan4Decades says:

    DWright! Woo-Hoo !!!!!!!!!!

  114. KL15 says:

All that stuff I said about plate approach….nice tater DW.

  115. Church4prez says:

    DAVID!!!!!!

  116. el_giacomo says:

    DWRIGHT!!!!!!!!!

  117. KL15 says:

Delgado you’re driving me crazy man, COME ON!!

  118. Church4prez says:

how dare you carlos no hr 2day

  119. MetsFan1989 says:

i hope delgado hasent lost his touch. hes starting to swing at balls he wasnt swinigng at

    • KL15 says:

I’m starting to think he’s a bit tired. I would consider pulling him later on if the lead holds up. He’s getting his mojo back but we can’t forget he’s 36 or 37 years old.

  120. MetsFan1989 says:

ibanez 2-3 today agasint shaun marcum

    • Church4prez says:

would you guys take ibanez and vidro’s contract of 8 million next year and cut marlon anderson cause vidro is better

      • RespectDaBestRM says:

        NO!!!

      • therealsince86 says:

        NO.
For a guy that does not want Dunn you want Vidro? Have you seen his numbers? 8 million. That’s a millon dollars a hit.

        • Church4prez says:

he has a hr 2day and is better than marlon

        • therealsince86 says:

Hey go check out Ibanez numbers with RISP2/Out. His average is lower than Dunn’s. LOL. Obviously Ibanez has no heart. Hey maybe if you add Ibanez and Vidro’s numbers together you could get the production of Dunn.

Besides do you not understand money at all? What are you going to do with Vidro next season? Release him? Anderson is signed for next year to. You going to cut him too? So that means that you will waste 10 million dollars for 2 months of Ibanez. You my friend are a genius.

      • MetsFan1989 says:

u kidding me. maybe if video was 7 years younger

  121. adam900 says:

Santana continues to impress me this year. I have no idea why so many of you are down him so much. He really didn’t have games where he gave up more then 4 runs.

    • Gina says:

Most of the people who are down on him are down on him because he hasn’t been as dominant as he was in Minnesota. And we thought that’s the pitcher we were getting.

    • therealsince86 says:

I think he is like 2nd in the NL in quality starts this season.

  122. KL15 says:

See what I mean about this fly ball outs. I know it was an out and that’s great, but my heart just jumped into my throat.

  123. bkfitz says:

Johan, go 9 if there isn’t a rain delay. That way everyone won’t complain and bash you for going 8.

  124. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

ok everyone lets all jump on johans back and ride him to 9 innings. hopefully he can prove he can go 9 strong and no setbacks.

    LETS GO JOHAN!!!!!!!!

  125. reyesnwright says:

This rain needs to hold off for another hour.

  126. skylog says:

why does it have to rain? they are breezing, johan is looking great…blast. this could be that complete game shutout that the mets needed.

    • Steve in DC says:

i wouldn’t mind having them nice and rested so they can push back the Marlins for good on Monday.

      • skylog says:

i am for that , i would just hate for a long delay and to have to come back out. perhaps now with a big lead the umpires, will, maybe be a little more likely to call it.

  127. MetsFan4Decades says:

    TATIS !!!!!!!

  128. Church4prez says:

    TATISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  129. reyesnwright says:

I’m going to be very upset if they get Winn to replace Tatis…

  130. lil pelf says:

we dont need no stinkin coner outfielder!

    • Church4prez says:

yes, church is not reliable and omar has to get IBANEZ

      • therealsince86 says:

No, Ibanez has no heart. His Batting Average with RISP2/outs is only .233. That’s WAY to low. He is a loser with no heart.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

yeah u do if church can not perform. endy will not be a good replacement

  131. MetsFan1989 says:

    pack on the runs baby

  132. teufelshuffle86 says:

    TATISED!!!!!

  133. KL15 says:

Johan has to be sitting in the dug out thinking FINALLY!

  134. The Slider says:

    “Adios Amigo!” LOL. Love Keith.

So, do we still need to get another outfielder?

  135. Orlandometsfan says:

    Tatis rules

  136. MetsFan4Decades says:

And those 2 strikes hit just keep on coming….

When will it be official that the analysts give up on Tatis being lighting in a bottle??????

  137. Orlandometsfan says:

    I want another reliever

  138. Church4prez says:

    BLASTRO!!!!!!!!

  139. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Ramon is the MAN!
Just gotta love these ‘bench’ players !!

  140. Wright88 says:

Game over baby, where is that stupid Philly fan.

  141. The Slider says:

    Oh baby!

  142. KL15 says:

Bloop, Blast. Bloop Blast! I LOVE IT!!

  143. MetsFan1989 says:

if he is healthy and gets 500 ab’s castro can get like 60 homeruns lol.. just speculating with his stats now

  144. ImissPiazza says:

    Super bench players!

  145. el_giacomo says:

    Pour it on!

    PS: Here comes the rain…

  146. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

cant watch it unfortunately is it raining at shea? if so, how bad?

  147. Jay says:

Please let Johan throw a complete game today… (assuming it doesn’t rain)

  148. The Slider says:

    Bada bing, bada boom.

  149. Orlandometsfan says:

im watching it online you guys see it faster then I do

  150. X-Man says:

Corner OF, what corner OF! There is no one we can trade for that would be better than Tatis right nwo, no one! Come back Church, we’ll be all set.

    • The Slider says:

Tatis is earning it, plain and simple. The problem is we won’t know about Church until after the deadline. What to do?

    • Church4prez says:

church is not reliable. i cant stress it enough

  151. teufelshuffle86 says:

Hopefully this will be enough run support for Johan! :D

  152. Church4prez says:

MONSOON OF RAIN HERE ON LI

  153. Orlandometsfan says:

Do you think Nady will be a difference maker for the Yankees?

    • MetsFan1989 says:

pre allstar yeah post no. he tanks and plus he had a hot april but only batted .264 for us

    • dave27 says:

No – they will win or lose on their pitching (I still think lose, but I think that every year).

It’s Xavier Nady…nice player, but this is a team with ARod. Nady is going to be the difference-maker?

    • skylog says:

he will help, but i think he has been somewhat over rated as of late. he kills lefties, but his numbers against righties are not as good. that said, i liked him while he was here and would not have minded him coming back.

    • Gina says:

No, but it’s still a good trade for them, they can resign him next year to either play in the of or 1b.

  154. MetsFan1989 says:

starting to storm about an hour north of the bronx

  155. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

castro hits a hr every johan start. its official

  156. Orlandometsfan says:

Would have been nice to get him, but not by giving away anything major

  157. MetsFan4Decades says:

Jeeze, what is Johan doing there? Looks like he thought it was foul.

  158. MetsFan1989 says:

ok. joan lol he thoguht he crushed that

  159. MetsFan4Decades says:

Everyone gets at least a hit today!
    Woo-hoo !!

    • el_giacomo says:

      except for Delgado…

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

True. But wasn’t he o for 3 the other night before he hit that game winning double that scored two?

And on that note, Carlos just smacked a single!

  160. bkfitz says:

Gary is making a big deal of Santana’s hit. I don’t care. I rather he think it foul and then have to jog to 1st than running hard to 2nd and pulling something.

  161. Orlandometsfan says:

    Marriage agrees with Jose

    • CaveManJoe says:

So far so good – I’m surprised his wife let’s him play the field though.

  162. el_giacomo says:

6 straight hits, wow. None out still…keep it going. Sucks that it’s gonna rain….this has CG shutout written all over it…damn

  163. Church4prez says:

BENCH JOHAN!! HE DIDN’T RUN!! lol

  164. KL15 says:

Come on Endy keep it going.

  165. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

Great baserunning by Johan. Turns a double into a single….good job Primadonna

    • el_giacomo says:

      There she is!

    • imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

      go home

    • bkfitz says:

I hear Joe Blanton is not well liked in the Philly Clubhouse. He’s eating all the food. Charlie Manuel is especially pissed.

    • dave27 says:

Are you serious? It’s 7-0 and he is the ace of the staff. No you’re right, better he leg out a triple.

Odds were it was foul or gone. Barely missed being either. Relax.

Just glad to pad the league since a rain delay probably pulls Santana.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

That’s the best you can come up with?

      My sympathies to you, pal.

    • kingman 26 says:

Are you serious? Have you notice what has been happening when the Cards have been batting?

    • skylog says:

      about time. where you been?

ready to eat crow about that complete game comment you made last night?

still……………where is your id from a phillies blog?

  166. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

can some1 tell me if it is raining hard or any at shea?

  167. Orlandometsfan says:

He’s a pitcher cut him some slack

  168. KL15 says:

IF THE THIRD BASE COACH SENT HIM……..

  169. MetsFan1989 says:

    wtf was that

  170. teufelshuffle86 says:

Mets really turning it on now.

  171. Church4prez says:

IBANEZ 3 HITS!!! GET HIM NOW OMAR!!!

  172. el_giacomo says:

NOW everyone has a hit! Nice!

  173. MetsFan1989 says:

reyes always makes a base runnig blunder

    • kingman 26 says:

Not a blunder at all….a very good chance to take with a big lead. Took a very good play to get him.

Have you noticed how well Reyes has played the last couple of months?

Doubles, triples, homers, RBI from the leadoff spot and runs scored are all very valuable in baseball games.

  174. therealsince86 says:

What do you guys think Huff would cost? He is signed through next season. I know he is LH but with Tatis hitting that’s ok. Huff could fill in for Church until he gets back and then split time with Tatis in LF. Then once September gets here he would be very valuable in that he can play 3B and 1B too.
Reyes, Beltran, Wright, Delgado, Tatis, Huff, Easley, Castro/Schneider
That would still be a tough lineup up even without Church.

    • Church4prez says:

huff is a stud. u c his #’s this year

      • therealsince86 says:

Your asking me, the king of stats, if I have seen a guy’s numbers or not?
He would fit in perfect here and would be a good solution to LF next year until Fmart is ready.

  175. KL15 says:

NIne more outs, no runs, nine more outs.

  176. Church4prez says:

endy cant play everyday. he is not a good hitter. he is a 4th or 5th OF

  177. Prismo says:

It’s about to start raining, rain delay coming up boys.

  178. el_giacomo says:

For anyone watching the game on TV, is it raining at Shea yet?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, Man, did you see that????

Carlos is just the best there is in CF…..

  179. Ray Sadecki says:

    test

  180. Orlandometsfan says:

I don’t think Reyes takes that chance in a close game

  181. MetsFan1989 says:

    nice catch

  182. KL15 says:

    OMG!!! BELTRAN!!

  183. Wright88 says:

In all seriousness I think Beltran is the best defensive CF in the game

  184. skylog says:

yes! that was sweet. takes me back to every kris benson start

  185. MetsFan1989 says:

lol looks like santana did a white power thing

  186. Orlandometsfan says:

    just saw it no fair

  187. Ray Sadecki says:

Hi Metsbloggers, I am posting here for the first time, I have been reading since last year. I hope I can add something to the discussion here. Lets Go Mets !!!! Looking real good today.

  188. Church4prez says:

    WHAT A CATCH.

    edit: usual hr off johan

  189. MetsFan1989 says:

    santana should be 8-2

  190. el_giacomo says:

Even watching on Gameday, I could tell that would’ve required a nice catch…was it at the wall? Did he rob him of a HR?

  191. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K. – anyone think maybe running those base paths for Johan tired him out some?

  192. KL15 says:

I knew that was gone when it left that bat. Please 8 more outs, no more runs.

  193. el_giacomo says:

    g’dammit pujols…that wasn’t very nice

  194. JoseReyesForPresident says:

    wooooooooooow what a play

  195. Orlandometsfan says:

    Robbed him for sure

  196. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

i hate winnie the poo. it was all jynxed yesturday with the comments on how long pujols had hit a hr

  197. Church4prez says:

If omar gets ibanez here, this team will win this division going away

    • Wright88 says:

eh…I like Ibanez but I wouldn’t overpay for him.

    • therealsince86 says:

What in the world is your hard on for Ibanez. He is an average player at best. I want an OF but if they are going to have a 2 draft pick price for Ibanez then I would rather go for a salary dump guy.

  198. Orlandometsfan says:

    Nice pitch

  199. Wright88 says:

Johan only at around 80 pitches, Lets get a CG

  200. Ray Sadecki says:

Why do we need Ibanez? Tatis has not come back to earth as many expected and keeps getting clutch hits. As long as Church is coming back, We are in good shape in the outfield.

    • el_giacomo says:

I agree. If Church comes back and can play for the rest of the season, then I don’t see a need to get an OF. It would be nice to know something more concrete about Church heading into the trade deadline though…

    • Wright88 says:

Well to play devil’s advocate, Tatis will eventually come back to earth. I mean he was out of baseball a while ago. I would get some kind of insurance, maybe not Ibanez but some kind of everyday OF.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

I agree with this for the simple fact that Church is a big unknown and with using our bench to play the corner OF, that leaves us with not much of a bench. I.E. Marlon lately…..

    • skylog says:

yes and no. tatis may come back to earth, and if he does, the mets are stuck. as for church, they can’t be really sure if/when he will come back and be “normal.” if he does, then they are surly in better shape, but if he does with ibanez, then the mets are an even better team while still having tatis.

as long as they can make a good deal i am for it. i don’t want to see them overpay though.

  201. Orlandometsfan says:

Johan needs to stop giving up Hr’s

  202. dave27 says:

We’re going against Nolasco, Olson, and Johnson in Florida? That’s the rotation we thought they’d b e sending out two years ago.

    I miss Mark Hendrickson already.

  203. Orlandometsfan says:

    Get a reliever!

  204. KL15 says:

    I think I see rain drops…

  205. Church4prez says:

Ibanez kills lefties. AND IF I HEAR SOME1 ELSE SAY CHURCH IS COMING BACK I WILL BE ANNOYED MORE!! HE IS NOT RELIABLE

    • therealsince86 says:

Ibanez’s career numbers vs. LHP .265 with a .725 OPS. That’s some numbers right there.
Look he is an ok player but they are wanting 2 good prospects for him as they are trying to say he will be a type A FA. That’s too much for 2 months of Ibanez.

How about Ben Francisco from the Indians? They seem to be in a dealing mode.

  206. Orlandometsfan says:

    We don’t need a starter

  207. MetsFan4Decades says:

For those of you who were asking – now they’ve got light rain coming down at Shea.

  208. Church4prez says:

how bout we get ryan braun. this guy is goin to the HOF. he is sick. i just got him last week on my fantasy team a and gave utley and joba and upton

  209. Wright88 says:

This is ridiculous with the 2 strike hits.

  210. metsflip says:

I agree with getting a reliever, and to be specific, Huston Street…
AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SAY HE’S OVERRATED HE’S ONLY 24!!!!!

  211. MetsFan4Decades says:

Tatis! Doesn’t look like he’s losing any ‘edge’ here…..

  212. Church4prez says:

    jacobs 2hr 5 rbi 5-0 fish

  213. Orlandometsfan says:

    Crazy!

  214. Orlandometsfan says:

I just feel are pen is shaky at times.. see Friday night

  215. metsflip says:

    RYAN BRUAN?????????????????????? LOL

  216. Ray Sadecki says:

As we speak, Tatis just got his 3rd extra base hit today. I agree with Orlandomets fan that a reliever is more of a priority now.

  217. el_giacomo says:

wow the heavy rain cells are really dying down and avoiding NYC. Looks like today’s weather may be a Mets fan. ‘Preciate it.

  218. MetsFan1989 says:

update about bay he is batting with runner on 1st adn second

  219. Orlandometsfan says:

    Still raining in Philly?

  220. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice hitting, Johan!

  221. metsflip says:

    Guys:
    George Sherril or Huston Street?

  222. Church4prez says:

I feel that la russa is mean for abusing this kids mental capacity

  223. Orlandometsfan says:

Think what Santanas record would be if he had a better pen supporting him

  224. Wright88 says:

hmm…what does everyone think about the NL MVP. Still a while away but I can’t really think about a frontrunner…would they really give it to Howard?

    • el_giacomo says:

      Fernando Tatis = MVP

      kidding, of course…

      or am I???

    • LeftCoastMetsFan says:

depending on where the fish end up, they’ll probably give it to hanley…just no more phillies

    • MetsFan1989 says:

past years it seems. it is only deiced in the last week of the season. u can bat ,100 and they bat 900 the final week and win mvp lol

  225. Orlandometsfan says:

George Sherril looked nasty in the all star game but I don’t really know his stuff

  226. Church4prez says:

bay sucks. ibanez is way more clutch

    • therealsince86 says:

Are you Ibanez or his agent. I hope you are his agent as I would feel strange with him actually posting on here.

  227. Ray Sadecki says:

Right now I am more concerned with the Marlins than the Phillies. They are getting those great young pitchers back now.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Yup. I agree with this. Unless the Phillies make some multiple moves, they’re not staying in this race much longer.

    • Wright88 says:

The Marlins have a lot of problems though. Bad fielding, bad pitching. They basically hit a ton of HRs and somehow win.

  228. metsflip says:

Sherril was CLUTCH in the ASG I’ll give him that

  229. MetsFan1989 says:

washburn really uppped his ratings tody

  230. Orlandometsfan says:

Seventeen hits! Snatana must be so happy

  231. AzMetsFan says:

good, got santana off the bases. Nice r’bie Santana!

  232. metsflip says:

Tatis should start left hands down…
    GREG MADDUX??

    • therealsince86 says:

Who is that old guy who pitches for the Padres and wants to go back to Atlanta and play golf with his buddies?

  233. Orlandometsfan says:

Think anyone will get Fuentes from the Rockies?

  234. CaveManJoe says:

Anyone know how El Duque is doing – he would be a great option for our pen right now.

  235. Orlandometsfan says:

Maddux is not needed, not when we are limited to what we have to trade, plus he doesn’t want to come east

  236. el_giacomo says:

wow just watched the video replay of Beltran’s catch. wow! gave me goosebumps, that was amazing. Best CF in the biz, y’all!

  237. metsflip says:

    Cards will get Fuentes

  238. Orlandometsfan says:

do they have a deep farm system?

  239. metsflip says:

Is it safe to say Santana officially became a Met today?

  240. Wright88 says:

I think with the premium on relievers if the Rox decide to move Fuentes, they’d ask for Rasmus form the Cards which would be a bad deal.

  241. deloid says:

DP and Santana may get complete game

  242. metsflip says:

    good question Orlandometsfan Idk

  243. MetsFan1989 says:

    ughhh almost

  244. Church4prez says:

    they walked ibanez intentinally

  245. MetsFan4Decades says:

Oh, nice catch, Tatis. That was just some bad luck there w/ not being able to keep it in the glove.

  246. CaveManJoe says:

That was a catch – it came out after it was in his glove for a solid 3-4 seconds

    • peteNYM says:

there is no time in the glove for it to be considered a catch its if the player has control of himself and has the ability to transfer the ball to his throwing hand…amazing play by tatis but not a catch

  247. Orlandometsfan says:

    Wow that was close

  248. Wright88 says:

I would have liked to get Anthony Reyes from the Cards, but they moved him.

  249. MetsFan1989 says:

weather is looking ok. just light rain.

  250. teufelshuffle86 says:

That should be ruled a catch. I know the rules specify differently but he had that.

  251. Church4prez says:

the rockies aint dealin any1 so stop with fuentes and holliday. u c how hot they are and their sked is easy. their offense is scary and they r gettin francis back with cook and jimenez.

  252. Orlandometsfan says:

95 pitches so he wont complete the game

  253. MetsFan1989 says:

now would be somewhat ok to take him out if he was over 110 pitchers.

  254. metsflip says:

I think Santana will go out there in the 9th

  255. el_giacomo says:

alright! 99 pitches for Johan. surely he starts the 9th after what the bullpen went thru last night, right?

  256. Orlandometsfan says:

I would hope but will see

  257. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

does anyone else feel the 1st complete game this year? its so close i can taste it

  258. Church4prez says:

The mets will def add a player or 2 of importance by thrusday or by aug 31

  259. deloid says:

I’d like to see him at least start the ninth

  260. metsflip says:

Why is Omar even worrying about left in the first place? Theyre scoring a ton of runs from what they have… It’s been the bullpen thats been keeping them from winning 20 games in a row thats it

    • therealsince86 says:

Maybe he is looking to do both. I would assume that is ok, right?

    • MetsFan1989 says:

b/c what about right? church is not definite. and chave is well chavez lol. we still need a of and reliver

    • Wright88 says:

But how long can Tatis and Endy keep this up? Its not reasonable to believe they can keep it up. It would be great if they could but I just don’t see it happening. Our relievers are pretty solid, they’re just in a bad funk.

      • Gina says:

It’s not reasonable that they’ll keep it up but the players that we could realistically trade for aren’t likely to give us much more offensive production than they would, well Ibanez might but he’s a defensive liability which we don’t need in a pitchers park with a bunch of fly ball pitchers.

  261. teufelshuffle86 says:

Let the new guy pitch the 9th. Hopefully things won’t get out of hand.

  262. Orlandometsfan says:

    Thats what Im screaming

  263. therealsince86 says:

What about a salary dump trade for the O’s.
Bradford, Huff and Payton for cash and prospects.

  264. Orlandometsfan says:

Get a reliever first outfielder second

  265. metsflip says:

I guess they could somehow manage a package, and trust me guys Church will be FINE

    • MetsFan1989 says:

only thing w/ church he is like a 270 carear hitter. so what we saw could have been a fluke

    • Gina says:

Are you a neurologists? Team doctors don’t even know if he’ll be fine but we should trust you?

And Metsfan1989 is right, there is a chance that it was a fluke, he really didn’t have enough at bats to determine one way or another.

  266. Orlandometsfan says:

Is it still raining in Philly?

  267. adam11216 says:

santana into the 9th after the entire bullpen gets used the night before. can we all please show this guy some love now?

  268. Church4prez says:

bradford useless, payton useless, huff very good not as good as ibanez

    • therealsince86 says:

LOL. Huff is not as good as Ibanez. I am going to let you try and prove that one. That’s great.
No arguement on Payton. He is more than useless but I am sure the O’s would love to get rid of him.
Bradford has a 2.63 ERA. He would be fine. He is sidearm but still a different look than Smith.

  269. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K., Johan. Get 3 outs here. He’s looked sharp all day so I’m thinking – no problem.

  270. deloid says:

    Yes!

    Go gettum Santana!!!

  271. adam900 says:

    come no rain delay now.

  272. metsflip says:

Guys this should be our tops for the trade deadline:
    1. Huston Street
    2. George Sherril
    3. Adam Dunn
    4. Raul Ibanez
    5. Jason Bay

    • Wright88 says:

4/5 of those guys we’d probably need to give up FMart.

      • therealsince86 says:

I only see 2 of those that would require Fmart based on predictions.
        Bay and Sherrill.
Street, Beane will want Kunz and Niese.
Dunn, Reds will want Niese and a AA guy like Evans.
Ibanez, M’s want the same as 2 draft picks.

        • Wright88 says:

I think they would want a lot for Street, he is a 24 year old closer that you really don’t have to trade. The Reds would probably also play up Dunn’s 40 HR ability.

        • therealsince86 says:

I am sure they both would try that. However, I still don’t see them getting those type of players. Street’s value is lower than normal and Dunn does not have as much of a market with Big Poppy back and Nady going to the Yankees.

    • therealsince86 says:

I would move Bay ahead of Ibanez and throw in Huff but other than that you are dead on.

    • imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

      manny ramirez. jk ha ha

    • clouseau says:

Why isn’t Randy Winn on your list?

  273. Orlandometsfan says:

I don’t know Street well, but I like the idea of trading for young guys

  274. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

guy is killing me. we need 3 outs come on johan. i think 1 more runner and hes toast

  275. deloid says:

    Double play please!!

  276. MetsFan1989 says:

    hes getting hit hard

  277. el_giacomo says:

    1 down

  278. metsflip says:

Street is only 24 years old, has had some injury prob but thats normal for A’s and young guys, and he has a wicked 2 seamer

    • MetsFan1989 says:

      blows a bunch of saves

      • therealsince86 says:

He would be a setup man here and MUCH more reliable than Sanchez right now.

        • Gina says:

I agree he’d be a great set-up man, but are the a’s going to trade him for the value of an 8th inning guy or a closer.

        • therealsince86 says:

Closer of course. Again, I would trade Niese, Evans and a single A prospect for him. Or Parnell, Carp, etc.
          Just no Fmart.

  279. Orlandometsfan says:

    9-1 lets stay calm

  280. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

say thank you very much to aaron miles. he bailed you on that one

  281. Orlandometsfan says:

I don’t want to see another ALou type pick up

  282. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Yes!. One more, Johan.

Clearing up a bit here in Philly.

Now Manuel keeps Santana in with an 8 run lead? If that’s not an admission of guilt, I don’t know what is. Manuel must read Santana’s “body language” differently today.

  292. metsflip says:

    GO SANTANA! OFFICIALLY A MET!
Now all I need today is a bullpen move..

  295. KL15 says:

I know there have been a couple of times we wished Johan had pitched a complete game but this really is a nice spot to have the first one. The bullpen really needed this. Got to win the series against the Marlins. But for today great win. LETS GO METS!!

therealsince1986, absolutley hit the nail on the head…
And in the future when Wags retires he can be more mature as the closer

    • therealsince86 says:

Yup I would trade Niese and a couple of AA prospects not named Fmart for him.

      • metsflip says:

I would trade anybody not named FMart because theyre not all that great anyway
Besides, who cares if we trade Niese? Our system is already shot

        • Gina says:

The reason people don’t want to trade Niese is because we’ll likely have two spots to fill in the rotation next year and the free agent class is kind of underwhelming. Plus it would be nice to have starting pitching depth so we don’t have to rely on the Brandon Knights and Claudio Vargases of the world for spot starts.

At first I agreed with this sentiment but I’m kind of wavering now. I’d have no problem trading him, if it’s for a player that will fill a need past this year, whether we have to resign him or he’s already under contract.

        • therealsince86 says:

Hey, wait a minute. This class is not underwhelming at all.
          CC
          Sheets
          Perez
          Garland
          Lowe
          Burnett
          Dempster
          Wolf
It’s top heavy but not underwhelming at all. In fact, it’s the best one we have seen in years.

        • Gina says:

Underwhelming probably wasn’t the right word. I mean most of the guys on that list come with red flags. Burnett and Sheets are serious injury risks and Burnett is struggling mightily this year. CC I think is pretty much out of the question I just don’t see the front office giving out another huge contract to to a pitcher, especially one with the decline/injury risk he has with his shape. Wolf has been mediocre. And Dempster is sort of a wild card. I guess it would depend on the deal.

I would love for them to bring back Perez and/or sign Garland. With Lowe it would depend on the length of the deal.

  299. bkfitz says:

Chris Russo: Johan…how can you give up a HR to ALBERT PUJOLS??? I mean…c’mon…..you have a shutout on the line. GET THIS GUY OUT!!!! I tell you…..Johan Santana….is not a PATCH…..on Tim Lincecum’s..fanny………you can’t argue that Met fans.

Hey, where did Church4prez go? I was waiting for his explanation of how Ibanez is better than Huff. I guess he is still looking up the stats for that one.

  302. metsflip says:

Why does Church4prez always rip on Church when his username has Church in it?
