The Pirates recently rejected an offer from the Braves for OF Jason Bay,
reports Mark Bowman in a post to MLB.com.
According to Bowman, the deal likely included top Atlanta prospects SS Brent Lillibridge and OF Brandon Jones, ‘as well as one of their talented young pitchers from the Class A level and another marginal position player.’
On Sunday, at ESPN.com, Peter Gammons wrote that the Pirates are still listening to offers for Bay, “but right now there doesn’t seem to be anyone willing to step up and pay the price.”
Such as the Mets, who, according to ESPN’s Jason Stark, feel the asking price for Bay is too ‘excessive.’
For instance, in a weekend report for SI.com, Jon Heyman wrote, regarding Pittsburgh’s asking price:
“Mets people balked at including top outfield prospect Fernando Martinez for Nady and are said to be extremely reluctant to part with either Martinez or left-handed pitching prospect Jon Niese.”
…so, it stands to reason that if the Pirates wanted to fernando and niese for nady, they most certainly want them for bay as well…

And again.. they traded Nady for MUCH less then F-mart and Niese…
Maybe if we invsted half as much in our drafts as we do in 40 something year old out fielders, each prospect we have wouldn’t be so un touchable..
THAT is really the problem here.. we guard our one or two chips so tightly because that’s ALL we have..
Teams like the Yanks and Socks have been stock piling talent left and right.. and can make trades when they need to without even breaking a sweat.
iawtc for the most part.
i agree. its no big deal for them to trade top guys bc they have someone else right behind whoever they give up.
The thing most don’t talk about how much the yanks spend on their draft picks. Sure they spend 200 mill. in the bigs but everytime a talent slips in the draft there are the yankees to give them what they want, for example (Andrew Brackman) not sure how he is doing now but i remember he was asking for a lot and he slid and who was there the yankees. We can be that team as well that is how we got Kazmir, you can stack the minors, just have to pay.
I’d agree with you except the guys the Yanks gave up were nothing.
Tabata was not nothing. He was having an off year but was one of their top prospects, frequently compared to F-mart.
I agree. It’s basically comparable to us trading F-mart last year, when he was behind Milledge and Gomez as far as prospects and struggling in AA.
I dont understand why noone is bringing up Nelson Cruz from the Texas Rangers. Im sure he can be obtained. i rather take a shot on him than depleting our system even more for these descent at best outfielders(bay, ibanzez, dunn)
So the Braves still think they are in this.
Lol.
Bay makes them better this year or next.. and they could replenish what they trade for Bay easily if they deal Tex… would actually be a smart move for them.. and equally crushing to us.
I agree with this comment as well. They’ll probably come out even in prospects and still be in the same position to compete next year.
Good points, I didn’t think of it that way.
I really don’t think they are going to get as big a haul as many might think if they do get rid of Teixeira tough.
Way too steep a price for Jason Bay. I’d hardly put him in the same class as Tex/Holliday – but anyway, I am in the minority in that I don’t even think the Mets need to make a move. I’m not a Nady fan in the least. Let’s see what kind of 2nd half he has with the Yanks since it is only inevitable for his numbers to come back down to earth – and if not that, then even lower to his career norms.
Anyway I went to the Braves-Marlins game last week in Florida. Went by myself so I couldn’t heckle the players despite being 3 rows up from the braves dugout (50 bucks – gotta love 3rd rate baseball towns!). Not much to report: there were mostly braves fans there in dolphin stadium and they were all scoreboard watching along with me, to check out the phils-mets game. The way the fans were talking you get the impression that they are under the impression that their teams will be contending this year, that it’s really a 4 team race and not a 2 team race. I laughed to myself, but not as hard as when a guy told me they only open the upper deck on Friday games. Not one person in the upper deck. Not one. All in all the stadium is nice (aside from the putrid colors) and despite the southern hospitality it was a pretty pathetic display of baseball. Oh, and parking costs nothing. Nothing. This confused me greatly.
lol. thanx for the report from fla.
Too steep a price for Bay.
we are going to need the youth infussion next year.
Omar is better off picking up a Hector Cruz and rolling the dice. I’m comfortable with Endy/Tatis combo as long as another OF is added to keep Marlon anderson on the bench as a PH.
Bullpen arm too would not be bad addition.
How about Sho for an OF and then we trade with the Reds for Jeremy Afeldt?
The Pirates really wanted Tabata. At one point, many scouts considered him to be a better prospect than FMart. It goes to show you the life of a prospect.
I actually think Nady might be a bit of a bust for the Yankees, but we’ll see. I think the Braves would have overpayed for Bay. Plus, if they think that Hampton and Glavine are going to propel them to a title, they have another thing coming.
Exactly. People complain about the Pirates getting nothing for Nady. They wanted Tabata. His value had decreased to the point where they could get him and some other players in addition. They bought low on a high-ceiling raw player while selling high on Nady, who is talented, but playing over his head this season. Church will turn be just as good a player when healthy. The pirates did what the Marlins do very well, target specific prospects.
Niese and Fmart for Bay…no way. Trade a bunch of players and Niese and I am all for it. Keep Fmart no matter who you trade for.
f-mart, Jon Niese, and two more prospects for Bay. i think i will pass on this trade. the pirates asks for too much from the mets, but yet take crappy prospects from the yankees for X-man and Marte.
Bucs probably didn’t want Nady in the NL to come back and beat them.
They won’t play the Yankees again for another few or more years.
I’d agree, if the Bucs were a team like the Braves, that with a good offseason, can be contenders next year. The Buc’s are still a long away from worrying about a player coming back to beat them. At this point I would think they would’ve taken an offer from an NL team if it was the best deal on the table.
I see the Braves trading Tex and getting better.
What about
Kotchman, Figgins and a prospect for Tex
Then prospects for Bay.
Then they have 2 big holes taken care of for next season at very little cost.
I could see the Angles doing this if they thought they could resign Tex. That would give them the offensive upgrade they needed.
Anybody think the Mets can get Adrian Gonzalez from the padres in the off season?
Nope, better chance of getting Giles.
Pass on Giles.
Do you think a team could get Reyes or Wright from us in the off-season?
I think we should look into Dunn and Afeldt for Niese, Carp/Evans, and an A ball guy.
Dunn strikes out too much-we will need Niese next year when Pedro and Perez(and El Duque-WHO??) are all gone.
Afeldt on the other hand would be a nice addition if we can peddle Sho for a corner OF.
Who cares about SO’s anymore? His OPS would lead the team, but I am not starting that arguement again.
If you think that the Mets are going to rely on Niese to start in the rotation next season you are crazy.
There is a lot of FA pitchers on the market and we will sign 2 of them.
Sheets, CC, Lowe, Garland, Perez, Dempster, etc.
Dunn is not worth having. He hits hr’s in bunches. The strikeouts do matter. When you go 1-5 with 4K’s and an HR, and your team loses by 3, they matter. He leaves a lot of guys on base, and is a defensive liability. What is to like about him outside of his walks and HR’s. If we want that caliber of player, honestly, go out and sign Bonds. It wouldn’t cost us our already meager farm system.
I will ignore the Bonds comment.
If you put Dunn in a spot with RBI guys behind him he would score over 100 runs. The guy gets on base 40% of the time. Any comments on him not driving in runs or any of the sorts has to be taken with the fact that the Reds lineup is terrible.
Napes, what’s to like about him outside of his walks and HRs? That’s like asking, what’s to like about Johan Santana outside of his WHIP and ERA.
Thereal nailed it on the head. RBI are a product of who gets on base in front of you. He hits the ball far, many times a year. When he doesn’t hit the ball far, he walks. Or he strikes out, which is the same as any ol’ other out.
Dunn makes this lineup so much better. The question is, what would it take to get him vs. Bay vs. Ibanez vs. Winn vs……
K’s really don’t matter when you get on base and mash balls at the rate he does.
I’ll leave it at that, because we’ve all had this argument a billion times already.
K’s do matter when you K with RISP. He may hit the hr’s but he leaves a lot of guys stranded. The Mets do that enough without Dunn.
True, but it’s better than the DP. Plus the guy’s been on a tear for at least a month.
You can’t hurt a lineup by puting a bat that would lead the team in OPS in it.
Evaluating a team by LOB and RISP stats isn’t always the best way to judge a team. You know what team leads the NL with BA with RISP? The Pirates.
Right, and they are fourth in the NL in runs.
But, I will agree that BA w/ RISP tells you nothing about a team’s pitching or defense.
Me too
Has there been any kind of buzz regarding us and Dunn? Hes been the guy I’ve wanted to go after for awhile, but all the names being thrown around in trade talks are everyone but him.
Last I read, they wanted a top pitching prospect and a middle prospect. That’s a lot for a rental but man if any team needs him it would be us.
Reyes, Church, Wright, Delgado, Beltran, Dunn, Easley, Schnieder/Castro. If Church is still out then slot in Tatis in Church’s spot or move Beltran to the 2 spot.
I know people would ideally want a right handed bat but hell, if Tatis keeps this up we would have such great outfield depth. 2 lefties who can hit, a switch hitter, and then Tatis as the rh bat who could sub in for one of the corners when we face a left hander as well as replace Anderson as our go to pinch hitter.
The only buzz has been we have no interest in him and apparently our front office doesn’t like him.
Neither does JP Ricciardi, evidently.
Lol I accidentally chose yes for the pole
You and 38 other people.
Ha
the pirates should sign bonds to a one-day contract to celebrate when they use to be a baseball franchise.
and when he used to be a baseball player.
martinez, niese and 2 other prospects. are you kidding?
i was going to type the exact same thing.
This has to be the worst poll in the history of Metsblog polls. I would not trade one of them for Bay let alone both. I am scared that some people would do this deal. Uggg
I don’t know man, I would definitely be tempted if it only cost us one of them.
Jason Bay is really not anything to write home about. He had a great season in 2005, I think. Since then he has been average (granted that is better than the production we can expect from LF the rest of the way). However, he isn’t the type of guy I would trade high level prospects for. I would call him the left field version of Kris Benson. Benson was a highly touted prospect coming up with Pittsburgh. He may have had one really good season with them and people felt that taking him off of that team would help him immensely. Well, we saw first hand what that did for him. He was hardly a bad Mets pitcher, but I wouldn’t call him a difference maker in a pennant race. Bay’s numbers may go up in a pennant race, but to me he is….eh.
Clearly not worth your top prospects.
FORGET BAY!! he’s way too expensive. the Pirates are a stupid organization. that trade with the Yanks was an absolute steal!
I don’t understand how it was a steal for the Yanks. They traded 2 very high level prospects in Tabata and McCutchen. They also traded two pitchers who are ready to step in on the big league level and perform. Ohlendorf will be a great addition to the Pirates bullpen or rotation, wherever they plan on putting him in. After all, it can’t get much more difficult than pitching for the Yanks.
Parnell, Carp and Evans..take it or leave it Pirates.
they would do it. i think they are so dumb they may do that
What I don’t get is why Matt chose our best 2 prospects when the Braves offered their 4th, 7th, and 2 other guys?
That’s about what Ryn05 proposed, maybe less.
Parnell, Carp/Evans, and 2 A ball pitchers should be just as good of a package.
Maybe it’s because our second tier prospects aren’t as good as the prospects the Braves offered probably. I think the problem is with our farm system it’s basically all or nothing. Our players either have to much value for marginal trades or not enough.
This is totally speculation I have no idea how those prospects for the Braves are rated on a grand scheme.
Took the words out of my mouth (or off of my keyboard.) What that should tell you is that our system is on life support, and it doesn’t seem like we have a lot going on in A-ball. We cashed in a bunch of chips for Santana. Unless an AL team sees Carp as a 1B/DH type (Mariners?), we’ve got nothing to deal except what little have in the way of a pipeline (Martinez, Niese, Parnell).
This is a team with a relatively young core (Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Santana, Pelfrey, Maine, Smith, Sanchez and maybe Perez and Church) and shouldn’t be assuming they have a “window” that’s slamming shut. Apart from Wagner and Delgado (of late), the true oldsters — Pedro, Duque, Alou, Castillo — have contributed precisely nothing. There are three NL teams with better records, and others breathing down our necks. This is not the time to go “all in.”
How about this nugget:
J.Bay vs. LHP (2008): .203/.343/.367/.710
J.Bay vs. LHP (2007): .227/.336/.406/.742
Looks like Mr.Bay isn’t all that he seems. Considering that he can’t really hit the lefties, which is why the team wants that RH bat, I can’t justify emptying the farm.
pull up his #’s with risp. he is awful
J.Bay: RISP (2008): .210/.337/.321/.658
J.Bay: RISP (2007): .260/.353/.440/.793
F.Tatis: RISP (2008): .400!/.468!/.625/1.093!! (40 ABs)
And for more fun with numbers:
F.Tatis as RF (2008): .395/.438/.625/1.066 (43 ABs)
F.Tatis as LF (2008): ..250/.325/.444/.769 (72 ABs)
wow that makes this an even worse idea. DON’T DO IT OMAR.
Nope and his numbers with RISP are not that great either. I would much rather have Dunn for this lineup because of his OPS. The guy has 29 HRs and would be cheaper than Bay because he is a pending FA.
enough with dunn already. he strikes out too much and leaves a million guys on base. an awful defensive outfielder and a losing player with no passion
Strikes out are probably the worst argument against Dunn.
LOL, prove that he is a losing player with no passion. You got a stat for that?
He has a .941 OPS with RISP, you are right no one would want that.
The Eckstein/Erstad quotient!
Problem I have with Dunn is the problem I have with Floyd. The guy is great when you need a home run or whatever. How about when you need the 2-out single to score two? Problem is, neither one shortens up their swing to make contact. Nothing personal Uncle Cliffy, I’m a huge fan. But the truth is the truth.
My biggest thing is that done is protection and alot of OPS… To me he’s a no brainer for leftfield
OPS is great if you get clutch hits. he never does. that stat is overrated. RISP is the most important stat
Thanks for making my point, and his RISP OPS is friggin .941. That would lead the team buddy. Stop with the BA crap.
Is this a joke? RISP the most important stat? Man, I don’t even know what to say………….
Right, it has nothing to do with the fact that in that lineup they are going to pitch around Dunn with RISP. That is why his OPS is .941. Look at his July stats.
The above lines were over 128 AB’s in ‘07, and 79 so far this year.
Compare that to:
F.Tatis vs. LHP (2008): .354/.407/.417/.824 (48 AB’s)
His career splits are pretty good against them though.
Yes, but he has been trending downward over the past season and a half, which is a red flag
its cuz the braves have a better farm system, would you compare nick evans with say jacoby ellsbury or colby rasmus to name a few, the only reason we cant trade is cuz we trade all our good prospects for hideous old people, maybe in a couple a years, when they can get something from the veterans that walk, they can restock
I completely agree. If Omar hadn’t unloaded the farm system for that arthritic turd-wad Johan Santana, we couldve traded for Nady instead!
i hope you are kidding
Burrrrnned
Im sure Dunn’s price will lower significally by July 31st, and when it does, I think Omar will pull off a package deal..
god i hope not. dunn is such a loser and stiff. Ibanez is a much better fit
You have to be the most clueless poster on here
So a guy who averages 40 homers a year with 110 rbis and a .900 ops is worst than an older 20 homer guy who is so overated because he’s do underrated? No thanks
You can’t argue with the Prez man.
So far Ibanez is better than Huff and Dunn. I hope Ibanez’s agent doesn’t hear that. He will be seeking a monster contract.
FORGET THE K’s church4prez and he would do better in a better atmosphere most likely, as for strikeouts, that is overblown, david wright is on pace to strikeout 108, really, i just looked it up, as for RISP, wright, as many rbi’s he has he is only batting .256 with runners in scoring position, and dunn .244, so yeah, is there really a difference,
i agree wright hasn’t hit with RISP all year but gets a pass cause he’s the golden boy, but don’t compare wright to adam dunn. Actually watch baseball and not just look at the stats
Stop with this RISP BS. You want to trade teams with the Pirates who led the NL in that category?
I should clarify and say BA w/ RISP.
ASK HIM WHO LEADS THE METS IN BARISP2/O? How about Man on with 2outs?
Not sure bro. According to JP Riccardi, he doesn’t even like baseball :-)
absentminded, THAT IS NOT WHAT I MEANT! i meant that they trade good prospects for win now, and they always stick to the slot system so they are unable to get a possible top 10 prospect that goes to them, and johan has been nothing short of fantastic with a sparkling 2.93 earned run average and a 13-4 record if he got 3 runs a game
did you ever watch adam dunn???? i mean ryan howard is hitting relatively there right, but he leads the league in like home runs and rbi’s, we are talking about a monster bat in the middle of the lineup, that could give you home runs.
that k’s every 2 or 3 at bats
As opposed to someone who grounds out every 2 or 3 at bats? What’s the difference?
ground out/flying out=putting ball in play; a chance for something to happen, possible error from opposing defense.
K=not helping your team, not a chance for something to happen.
c’mon now. whats better, a groundout or a K?
lol
Church4prez, if you believe Dunn is a sitff and hates baseball, why has he averaged 160 games a year and is not playing football right now?
let me ask you guys this?? why is it ever year around 7/31 this stiff is on the block and yet no one ever trades for him. There is a reason for it. No one wants him cause they know a guy like him is not a winning player.
Define a “winning player”, please.
a winning player who gets big hits, has played in the postseason and is scrappy, tough minded and does what it takes to get the job done. It is all perception. I feel that this guy is just not a winning player. You may disagree. Certain guys are winning players. Like a Pedroia, youkilis, vald, chone figgins to name a few.
Seriously
IT TAKES A TEAM TO WIN!!!!!!!!!
and name the last time Ibanez “won”
AND LUIS CASTILLO WHO HAS DONE ALL OF THOSE THINGS AS WELL. BY THE WAY HE DOES LEAD OUR TEAM IN BARISP/2OUTS. Thus Castillo is better than Dunn.
i agree castillo is a winning player. he has won a lot in his career. Thats why i loved getting him last year but not givin him 4 yrs
LOL, would you rather have Dunn or Castillo in the lineup? You crack me up.
absolutely castillo cause he hits in the clutch and has played in october baseball. he has a ring
Ok, Make sure everyone reads this. C4P would rather have Castillo in the lineup, who I am a fan of by the way, than Adam Dunn because he hits in the “Clutch” played in October and has a ring.
This is great, I think you get dumber by the minute.
Luis Castillo sucks. Would much rather see A. Reyes out there even if he goes 0 for his next 72. Castillo can’t slap the ball out of the infield, can’t field, and can’t run anymore. Useless.
Yes hes no winner like Ibanez thats for sure
i agree ibanez has not won anything at all, but he has played for the royals and mariners. The reds have talent. again it is perception. Ibanez to me is a guy who needs a change of scenery,. he has never had a chance to shine
When was the last time the Reds had talent???? 1990??? Are you serious
The Reds have talent? Could you explain that to their fans?
Dunn as nobody in front of him and nobody behind him. Their offense for years has been Dunn and an injured fading JR.
how bout phillips for the last 3 years? Votto is good. Hairston is good. Freel is a scrappy player. young bruce. keppinger. how bout edwin?? they have a descent team this year, and i agree that past years they stink but because of their pitching was awful
The guys put up 40 hrs 100 + rbis 100+ runs and 100+ walks the last few years what the hell more can he do?
They are near the bottom in EVERY offensive catagory. Who would you be affraid of in that lineup besides Dunn?
how bout get a big hit, play the field and make the postseason!! He stinks and is an awful awful baseball player
I have to agree with Prez here, the Reds offense has been pretty stocked the last few years. Too bad Dusty is managing them, and (outside of cueto and Volquez) their pitching sucks.
And that’s just about the Reds having some talent, not about the Mets not acquiring Dunn. Dunn would be awesome in this lineup.
Your right he got 100 rbis and scored 100 runs without a big hit…….
Their offense is not stacked at all. Look at the numbers. They are near the bottom of the NL in almost every catagory.
Thereal, I just looked up team batting stats. Reds have been top 4 in HR each of the last 3 years and top half in BA during the same time span. Not necessarily the best stats to pull (did it quickly on ESPN) but they’re not awful offensively.
Not really worth arguing about, just saying. We agree: Dunn would dramatically improve this lineup.
Check out this season. These are all NL rankings.
11th RS
14th H
5th HR
10th Total Bases
11th RBI
15th in BA
10th in OBP
12th in SLG
12th in OPS.
Those are some pretty bad numbers.
If you put Dunn in the Mets lineup then he puts up all-star numbers.
True. Some of that may be Dusty’s influence though.
Like I said, we agree 100% on Dunn.
Or could it be that because he WAS signed long term that no one wanted to meet their asking price? NO way.
accordong to reports for years, their price has not been high at all. You always hear that teams hate him as a player
You have heard that from one person. No one has EVER came out besides the one guy to say that they hate Dunn as a player.
yes please, is it someone with a ring, i mean half the league doesnt that that make them a losing player?
Whoever voted yes is going to GM hell.
Considering what the Yanks gave for both Nady and Marte, I would puke if the Mets sent two of their top prospects for Bay. But I don’t have to worry because that’s not happening.
BTW, who are the nearly 200 voters that think handing Martinez and Niese over to the Pirates for Bay is actually a good idea?
Awful…
OH MY G-D, castillo was injured this whole year, let him get healthy, then decide, i mean carlos delgado had a hip injury at the start of the season, he gets healthy, and he is now torching the ball, see what happends when you are patient.
I wanna know who the 147 jack@sses are that voted “yes” in the poll. You’ve got to be kidding me.
Bay is a great hitter, and I believe he’s still under contract for a few more years.
What are the odds that any of those players become the calibre player that Bay is.
He could be a great player for this team for a long time.
i suppose you are a “yes”. okay, who are the 146 others?
bay is great?? he hit 247 last yr and is hitting 220 with RISP
Way to take a few specified stats to try to make your argument…….alright, so don’t bat him 3rd or 4th.
He’s batting .284 with a .378 OBP, perfect for a #2 hitter.
He also has 22 HRs which is more than anyone currently on the team and 61 RBIs for a bad team.
So somebody batting .284 is worth your two best prospects in the organization? Not to mention whatever portion of his 18.25 mil is still owed to him until his contract is up in 2009. Im sorry, but its just not worth it.
just looked it up. 7.5 mil is owed to him next year, 5.75 this year, and in 2010 he is a free agent.
and i’d say the odds are pretty good that f-mart becomes a better player than Bay. Remember, he’s only 19.
I’d say the odds are he doesn’t. The great majority of prospects either fail or become mediocre major league players. We lucked out with Wright and Reyes coming up back to back.
Remember, he’s only 19 and has proven nothing.
Church4Prez was probably one of em.
just kidding, prez
Eh, he’s just offended that Ibanez was not voted on. After all he’s better than Dunn, Huff, and Bay because he hits in the clutch and has been to october and has a ring. Oh wait he only hits in the clutch, oh wait he does not even do that. His has a .233 BARISP2/O.
What exactly does he do?
Real, your so lost it is not even worth discussing anything with you. You are just stat freak who looks at OPS and OBP and sugging crap.
Lol, thanks for the complement. I will take it from you.
Tell me, what does Ibanez do that is better than Huff, Bay or Dunn?
3 years ago 94% of the people here wouldn’t have traded Lastings Milledge for anyone
C4P, just wondering what your plan is for Ibanez next year. In order to get the picks for him, you need to offer arbitration. As thereal pointed out in a prior post, if you do offer arbitration, he would likely accept due to the fact that he’s 37 and unlikely to get a big offer.
Would you offer arbitration? Is that risk still worth good prospects?
if he played well. i’d bring him back and im sure he’ll play well. It;s not worth neise or f mart but murphy or parnell yes it is.
OK, thanks for the clarification. Like everything else… there is a tradeoff between what we give up and what we get back. I was getting the impression you were for Ibanez at all costs.
I dont understand why noone is bringing up Nelson Cruz from the Texas Rangers. Im sure he can be obtained.
check his stats!
i rather take a shot on him than depleting our system even more for these descent at best outfielders(bay, ibanzez, dunn)
STOP WITH NELSON CRUZ!!?? who the hell is he and that is why he’s in the minors
Monday night’s lineup vs. Marlins
Here’s the lineup for the Monday night series opener against the Marlins at Dolphin Stadium:
Reyes, ss
Chavez, rf
Wright, 3b
Delgado, 1b
Beltran, cf
Tatis, lf
Easley, 2b
Schneider, c
Maine, rhp
***
Other tidbits:
• Pedro Martinez has arrived in Florida and should rejoin the Mets on Tuesday. He’s officially listed for Friday’s start in Houston. Pedro will throw a bullpen session tomorrow, with batters standing in the box but not swinging at Dolphin Stadium. He’ll be capped at about 80 pitches against the Astros. Martinez returning after a team off-day is by design, since it ensures a rested bullpen as a hedge against a short outing.
• Ryan Church will begin taking batting practice Tuesday, and ideally play in minor-league games this weekend with St. Lucie and be activated next week against the Padres.
• Jerry Manuel has anointed Fernando Tatis as his left fielder barring a trade. Translation: When Church returns, Endy goes to fourth outfielder and defensive replacement.
• Manuel plans to stay away from Aaron Heilman for a second straight game today, after Heilman tossed three innings Saturday. Told he could now use Heilman as a starter, Manuel said he told Heilman the very same thing.
Hes smashing the ball. He has 37 homers. Yea I guess you dont want to take a chance on that…lol dumbass
Your probably a guy who wants to get Bay. Bay is such a winner!
And dont forget to pay a kings ransom while you obtain that stud!!!!!!!!!!!
i hate bay. but he is better than some stiff who noone has ever heard of. there is a reason he;s in the minors forever. what are you his dad?
Not his dad at all. Im not even saying he would work out. All Im saying is that I rather take a chance on a guy like him than overpay for bums like Bay, Dunn, and Winn.(ibanez Id take a chance on if the price is right)
He might be in the minors but so is Jason Bay. Hes been playing with a bum team and minor league organization his whole career.
Your going to be the same guy who says hes not a winner when youa ctually watch Bay and not look at his stats.
If you want to deplete the farm even more. You can have Bay. But I wouldnt do it. Im all for dealing prospects and studs. But you have to get a proven back. Back isnt proven.
I rather overpay for Nady and Marte than obtain Bay.
I’m getting pretty sick of this fan base bashing the farm system and how depleted it is.
Wright and Reyes came up through the farm system. I think we forget how young they are because they have been stars for years already. They had an overhyped “prospect” in Milledge who still may be able to turn out good but will not be the top level star and they traded him for 2 starters in Church and Schneider. They developed a 1st baseman in Jacobs and basically traded him for Delgado in a Florida salary dump. They traded prospects for Santana which apparantly were good enough for Minnesota to accept. They got Maine and Perez in trades at a young age. One for a washed up reliever and another for a pretty good young OF, but they needed Hernandez because of bad luck in a taxi cab. Pelfrey is finally panning out. Heilman, Feliciano, Muniz came through our minor leagues. Sanchez was acquired at a young age. Theya re trying to develop guys like Kuns and Neise and Fmart.
Yeah, Castillo was a bad signing. Alou for a 2nd year was a bad signing. I’m not ready to say Show was a bad signing yet because he has in fact pitched well this year. Wagner was a good signing. Pedro was more than a pure baseball move. Beltran has been good, not spectacular. You can argue that they shouldn’t have made the Delgado trade, but I think I would still do it over again if we could go back in time.
You know? The red sox didn’t draft manny or ortiz or varitek or drew or lowell or beckett or schilling (well they did but traded him away). Big market teams have a mix of home grown players and free agents or stars that were traded for. I think the Mets are finally developing that mix. If Neise turns out to be a #4 starter in 2 years, then that is what they need because they have Santana, Pelfrey and Maine already. Kuns doesn’t need to be a closer right now, but if he is in 2 years, then that si plan a. if not, you need to find plan B but at least they have plan a in place.
Beltran and church should be around the next few years and fmart is expected to contribute at some point next year (not necessarily opening day). if he needs another year, then you find a gap filler for a year which can be done.
I am so sick of all the whining fans criticizing minaya. Look at your team. He hasn’t really done a bad job.
Cut it in half and I might read it.
don’t really care if you read it.
Unless Bay can pitch, I don’t see how he can help the Braves and their pathetic bullpen get back in this race.
Bay, Niese, and one other prospect but that’s it.
I mean Martinez, Niese, and one other prospect. I wouldn’t give more.
giving up our best two prospects and more for not even the best left fielder available (manny), ill pass
