Unless Bay can pitch, I don't see how he can help the Braves and their pathetic bullpen get back in this race.

I’m getting pretty sick of this fan base bashing the farm system and how depleted it is.
Wright and Reyes came up through the farm system. I think we forget how young they are because they have been stars for years already. They had an overhyped “prospect” in Milledge who still may be able to turn out good but will not be the top level star and they traded him for 2 starters in Church and Schneider. They developed a 1st baseman in Jacobs and basically traded him for Delgado in a Florida salary dump. They traded prospects for Santana which apparantly were good enough for Minnesota to accept. They got Maine and Perez in trades at a young age. One for a washed up reliever and another for a pretty good young OF, but they needed Hernandez because of bad luck in a taxi cab. Pelfrey is finally panning out. Heilman, Feliciano, Muniz came through our minor leagues. Sanchez was acquired at a young age. Theya re trying to develop guys like Kuns and Neise and Fmart.
Yeah, Castillo was a bad signing. Alou for a 2nd year was a bad signing. I’m not ready to say Show was a bad signing yet because he has in fact pitched well this year. Wagner was a good signing. Pedro was more than a pure baseball move. Beltran has been good, not spectacular. You can argue that they shouldn’t have made the Delgado trade, but I think I would still do it over again if we could go back in time.
You know? The red sox didn’t draft manny or ortiz or varitek or drew or lowell or beckett or schilling (well they did but traded him away). Big market teams have a mix of home grown players and free agents or stars that were traded for. I think the Mets are finally developing that mix. If Neise turns out to be a #4 starter in 2 years, then that is what they need because they have Santana, Pelfrey and Maine already. Kuns doesn’t need to be a closer right now, but if he is in 2 years, then that si plan a. if not, you need to find plan B but at least they have plan a in place.
Beltran and church should be around the next few years and fmart is expected to contribute at some point next year (not necessarily opening day). if he needs another year, then you find a gap filler for a year which can be done.
I am so sick of all the whining fans criticizing minaya. Look at your team. He hasn’t really done a bad job.

Took the words out of my mouth (or off of my keyboard.) What that should tell you is that our system is on life support, and it doesn't seem like we have a lot going on in A-ball. We cashed in a bunch of chips for Santana. Unless an AL team sees Carp as a 1B/DH type (Mariners?), we've got nothing to deal except what little have in the way of a pipeline (Martinez, Niese, Parnell).

This is a team with a relatively young core (Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Santana, Pelfrey, Maine, Smith, Sanchez and maybe Perez and Church) and shouldn't be assuming they have a "window" that's slamming shut. Apart from Wagner and Delgado (of late), the true oldsters -- Pedro, Duque, Alou, Castillo -- have contributed precisely nothing. There are three NL teams with better records, and others breathing down our necks. This is not the time to go "all in."

OK, thanks for the clarification. Like everything else... there is a tradeoff between what we give up and what we get back. I was getting the impression you were for Ibanez at all costs.

Not his dad at all. Im not even saying he would work out. All Im saying is that I rather take a chance on a guy like him than overpay for bums like Bay, Dunn, and Winn.(ibanez Id take a chance on if the price is right)

He might be in the minors but so is Jason Bay. Hes been playing with a bum team and minor league organization his whole career.

Your going to be the same guy who says hes not a winner when youa ctually watch Bay and not look at his stats.

If you want to deplete the farm even more. You can have Bay. But I wouldnt do it. Im all for dealing prospects and studs. But you have to get a proven back. Back isnt proven.

I rather overpay for Nady and Marte than obtain Bay.
