  1. We Were Throwbacks says:

    Get Manny…..somehow make this happen.

    • Santana57 says:

The Mets aren’t getting Manny. It would demolish the farm and the clubhouse.

    • mex84 says:

Why, we need a RH hitting LF not a clown. This guy will cost us the farm for 2 years of an overpaid sideshow.

      • BernazardSucks says:

not to mention he’s 36 years old. I know he’s still producing, but come on, you don’t give up the farm for an aging knucklehead.

      • MetsFan1976 says:

I believe Manny said he would not block a trade…if the team getting him agreed to decline his options. So, a trade for Manny would be for a 2-month rental. That’s even worse.

    • m00kie says:

this place is going to be overrun with manny-fever until the deadline, isn’t it? ugh. the sox aren’t giving him up without getting back a big bat.. that we don’t have.

  2. teufelshuffle86 says:

    JUST SAY NO TO MANNY!!!

  3. metsfan42793 says:

get ibanez not manny. manny is a horrible fielder and he isnt the great hitter he was a few years ago. he will ruin the clubhouse.

  4. BernazardSucks says:

thing is, I’m not sure the Sox would even ask for that much in return. the whole league has watched his side show antics. and at $20 mil per, he’s hardly a steal of a deal at 36 y/o.

  5. Koko says:

Why hasn’t Jerry put Manny or Dunn in the lineup? Fire Jerry!

  6. shea1012 says:

Mets called me about Citifield options for next year. Surprisingly, the price for the seats they offered is good – $25 per seat per game for what would be right at 1B in the top level. If anyone is interested in splitting a portion of a full season with me, please email me at john.bluemke AT gmail .com

  7. TobeRinkler says:

    Let’s Go Mets!

    • mex84 says:

Yea! Lets go Mets! Go figure a big matchup with the Marlins of all teams in late July!

  8. Koko says:

Sox would be not smart to trade Manny unless they were to get a hitter that can produce now. The Sox offense needs someone likeManny (or a Manny lite). They need consistency. Someone like the Mets have no one that can produce for the Sox fast enough, so unless there is a three team trade nothing is happening on that front.

  9. ratatatspat says:

If the Sox put Manny on waivers and the Mets claim him, can the Sox then take him back?

  10. erik says:

Why are we talking about Manny The Clown? How about rooting for the Mets to sweep the Fish and put them out of the race and hope that the Nats pull off a miracle and that they take series against the Phils.

    • Gina says:

Thats what I’m wondering. Are there not enough trade threads on the front page, do we really need to turn a game thread into one too.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

I’m with you on this. I think I’ve read enough today on debates about trade rumors. On to enjoy the game…

  11. lil pelf says:

lets go out and get a corner outfielder and a setup man, we really could use both, omar should do everything but give up a starting pitcher or core guy to make the corner outfielder manny

    • erik says:

How about this? Get Barry Bonds. Sign him for less than Manny costs and you’ll still get the same headache. It’s practically like an outlet store.

  12. Nightlife says:

Alright, I get to listen to those stupid Marlins announcers!!!!!!!

    • gipper82475 says:

Eh….I just put the TV on mute and listen to the game on the WFAN feed on my laptop. Visuals, but with Howie and, sadly, Wayne…..far better than those adolescent Fish announcer homers/hacks.

      • teufelshuffle86 says:

Only problem is that the radio feed on mlb.tv is usually about 2 – 3 minutes behind.

        • gipper82475 says:

Just synch it up using your TiVo or DVR, assuming you have one.

I just hit pause on my TV, wait for radio to catch up, and hit play. Takes 2-3 adjustments in the top of the first to get it spot on.

        • teufelshuffle86 says:

Unfortunately I get the video from the same source (mlb.tv) so it’s not quite the same. Even the radio and tv feeds on mlb.tv aren’t in sync.

        • gipper82475 says:

Well, in that case, you are rogered.

Consider the Extra Innings package next year with an MLB.audio subscription……lets you see the team on real TV.

  13. UpstateDave says:

I think Manny would really help this team, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. The Mets would be foolish to give up too much talent for Manny, given his age and off-field issues, but the Sox can’t afford to just give him away, since they’re in the middle of the AL East race. Plus Manny had veto power over any trade and probably wouldn’t agree to one unless the Mets agreed to not pick up either team option (which they might do, though it would mean he’s only a rental player) or guarantee the 2 option years (which would just be stupid).

    • k-mets says:

I posted in other forum and I hope I didn’t misread this on Adam’s blog but he stated that Manuel told Heilman that he can be a starter. Here is the quote”

“Manuel plans to stay away from Aaron Heilman for a second straight game today, after Heilman tossed three innings Saturday. Told he could now use Heilman as a starter, Manuel said he told Heilman the very same thing.”

Additionally, Tatis will be his left field unless there is a trade, and Eddy will used as a 4th OF when Church comes back.

  14. Wright88 says:

This team needs Victor Diaz, Brian Bannister, and Ruben Gotay. Then we can win it all

    • erik says:

I really hope this is a joke, but if not:

      Brian Bannister: 7-9, 5.40 ERA, 74 k, 36 BB
      Ruben Gotay: 203 AVG, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R
      Victor Diaz: ???

  15. bigvito22 says:

Stick with what works. LET’S GO METS!!!

  16. Church4prez says:

LETS GO METS!! SWEEP THIS TRIP

  17. Church4prez says:

How bout Adam Lind?? He is playing well now for the jays

  18. mikepelfreyismyguy says:

they are projecting fernando martinez as a young manny, without the garbage

  19. LIMetfan74 says:

    From ESPN trade blog:

    • The Red Sox ran Manny Ramirez’s name past the Mets in the last 24 hours and were turned down flat, according to one source with knowledge of those discussions. So we can cancel that Manny Watch in Queens.

  20. cpatrocks says:

Its time for Fernando Tatis’ name to turn blue on this lineup – he’s earned a link to his SNY stats like all the other guys…

  21. Church4prez says:

we all know that the mets own n0lasco right??

  22. Church4prez says:

Keith no vacay this week. suprised

  23. bigvito22 says:

    Dolphin Stadium: Empty as always

  24. Church4prez says:

texieria is goin 2 arizona so that helps them a ton

  25. Church4prez says:

why haven;t the mets called up eddie kunz?? he has notallowed a run in 10.2 innings

  26. Nightlife says:

God this is always so funny seeing Mets fans outnumbering Marlins fans in Miami.

  27. Church4prez says:

i thought fla was bad defensively

  28. Nightlife says:

    Crap, not CB Bucknor.

    • khmustache says:

this guys pause between the pitch and the call kills me…freakin prima donna umps… wow, that was a strike

  29. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Too much teal in the backdrop with the backstop and the seats. Curse the Miami Dolphins for making that an acceptable color for sports teams.

  30. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

Nolasco will shut the Mutts down tonight

  31. jimyager says:

OMG!! I really HATE the Florida Marlins announcers. They suck bad. Why does MLB Extra Innings make us watch the games on the “other” teams feed? we should be able to pick what feed we want to watch. LETS GO METS !!!!!

    • gipper82475 says:

Can’t agree more. I just synch it up with the MLB.audio WFAN radio feed. That way I get visuals and Howie instead of the horrid Fish announcers.

    • rM teM says:

Yeah, for sure. I used to have the hockey thing
and it was the same deal.

    • AzMetsFan says:

I’m not sure about today because I’m not home from work yet, but these past few weeks most of the Mets games I’ve gotten had both teams feeds on the Directv extra innings package. It kind of makes up for blocking out most of the saturday/sunday games.

      • gipper82475 says:

LOL – that was because of the limited schedule – only one game tonight is offered in both home and away – and it isn’t our Mets.

        • AzMetsFan says:

Actually No. I just got home and I have SNY feed on 728 and Marlins feed on 729.

    • SovereignRonnie says:

Just wait to the Fox Sports Net Miami commercials about not using tobacco products. “My name is Kevin Gregg, and I care. I don’t dip, I don’t smoke, I don’t use tobacco, I don’t read directly off the teleprompter.”

  32. bigvito22 says:

Delgado just missed one…I’ve got a good feeling about his next AB

  33. darkstar73 says:

this Manny talk needs to stop, it’s not 3 years ago, we also don’t have a farm system to play around with, we’re also in 1st place, and we also conceivably have Church coming back. I could understand getting Ibanez if it comes cheap, but Manny would be a distraction and would cost too much in both players and cash and is a horrible defensive outfielder outside of Fenway, and with all the fly ball pitchers we have, that doesn’t bode well. The trade deadline is all hype anyway, just a way to get more hits at site and grab more attention to make more money. Lets root on the team we have, which is actually playing well. So having said that…LETS GO METS! and oh yeah…its good to be back, been out of the country for a month+, so still getting caught up.

    • Nightlife says:

You came back at a good time.

My main reason wanting to stand pat is that the August schedule ridiculously easy on us. This is of course assuming they keep playing like they are now.

      • darkstar73 says:

seriously, when i left, the sky was not just falling, but the sh*t had gone through the fan already. I come back, we’re in 1st, we have a new manager and pitching coach, delgado is hitting, and there’s actually optimism on metsblog. Did I come back to an alternate universe?

        • Nightlife says:

Yeah its pretty much bizarro-Metsblog now— well until they lose 3 in a row or something.

        • therealsince86 says:

And I have even came back so all is actually back to normal Dark. Good to see you again.

        • darkstar73 says:

good to be back, but even better to see the Mets winning

  34. Nightlife says:

It would be nice to see Maine string together a couple of good outings.

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Remember how we were saying this about Ollie and Pelfrey not too long ago. I’m not saying Maine’s spot in the rotation is at risk, but he’s been the 4th best starter since our good run has been going on.

  35. khmustache says:

good thing that didn’t get by him…that would have been 3

  36. rM teM says:

    2

  37. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

    Great play Tatis….way to make a play…lol

  38. bigvito22 says:

    NICE job John!!!

  39. AngryFan says:

LOL troll has to run away now

Hey troll, no matter what, you still end the night not in 1st

  40. Church4prez says:

    finally maine got a pitch

  41. gipper82475 says:

Wow, nice job pitching out of trouble and out of the mania caused by Bucknor’s odd strike zone.

  42. Nightlife says:

This is setting up for one of Maine’s patented 5 inning, 3 ER, 600 pitch outings.

  43. AngryFan says:

    Maine > Blanton

    Tatis > Blanton

    Jerry Manuel > Blanton

  44. Church4prez says:

4get matt holliday being dealt now. he just hit a 2r bomb and the rox r winning that divisoon

  45. gipper82475 says:

    Beltran with a slump-buster!

  46. rM teM says:

You know. I think all the planets are aligned for
Tatis, He’s in the right place at the right time

  47. AngryFan says:

    TATIS IS GO(O)D

  48. Church4prez says:

    TATIS!!!

  49. rM teM says:

    OK?

  50. bigvito22 says:

    TATIS!!!

  51. Nightlife says:

    Tatis!!!!

  52. MetsFan4Decades says:

And Tatis just continues to rake.

    TATIS !!

    Easley !!

  53. Church4prez says:

There’s the nolasco we love 2 hit

  54. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Gotta love that Marlins D, keep giving us extra outs guys.

  55. AngryFan says:

Philly Fan on Christopher St. is where now? HELLO?

  56. teufelshuffle86 says:

I thought that was going to be a bloop single.

  57. Nightlife says:

    D-Easy!!!

  58. khmustache says:

i always love hearing the lets go mets chants in florida

    • Nightlife says:

It’s pretty comical. Especially when you read comments from Marlins players upset about it.

  59. SuicideWatch says:

    ??

  60. playmaker3128 says:

The more and more i see, the more omar can stand pat at the deadline (at least in terms of an outfielder). 2 strikes and he smoked that ball, despite the bad defensive play from ross.

If the team is confident church is coming back then i’d be perfectly happy with a tatis/endy platoon in left. Thing about tatis is his approach, and he even alluded to it when he came up. He’s hitting and when he gets to two strikes not trying to do to much.

By the way that was a really nice story on him, got back into baseball to help out his town and build a church.

By the way we need to really keep pushing the issue this series as the marlins defense is pretty bad.

  61. Nightlife says:

Need to work on your bunting John.

That first pitch he took was the best one for a bunt.

  62. teufelshuffle86 says:

God Maine is a horrible bunter.

  63. Church4prez says:

    what a throw by endy

  64. The Slider says:

Nice throw by Chavez. What a great defensive OF.

  65. 911nafstem says:

Miami is truly the worst sports city in America. How in the world could the Marlins be getting a new stadium? They can’t even draw flies when they’re battling to get into first.

  66. The Slider says:

Johnny looks like he’s got good stuff tonight. (Bite my tongue.)

  67. AngryFan says:

You ever see a team that takes lumberjack swings so much!?

  68. SuicideWatch says:

37 pitches for Maine after 2

  69. Nightlife says:

Better inning for Maine there. 37 pitches through 2. :/

  70. rM teM says:

no, philly is the worst, next month they’ll be chanting for the eagles

    • Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

Yeah – nyc has the most winningest baseball franchise in the history of the game with 26 championships and deep deep history

THEN there are the Mutts, the bastard, half-cousin. Yankees OWN NYC LMAO

THEY will own NYC until they leave which is never

  71. SuicideWatch says:

He better start pitching some cheap inning or he’ll be spent by the 6th.

  72. the kooz says:

Is it me or does Keith seem a bit agitated tonight? Complaining about the size of the booth, about the starting time of the game…..

I mean he IS in Florida after all, he should be ecstatic

    Gotta love Keith

    LETS GO METS!

    • gipper82475 says:

Keith’s internal monologue: I can be agitated. Come on, I won the MVP in 79. I can do whatever I want to.

The Kooz’s internal monolgue: Who does this guy think he is?

Keith’s internal monologue: I’m Keith Hernandez.

      • Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

        HA HA

      • Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

        KEITH HERNANDEZ >> OVERRATED

        • SovereignRonnie says:

Keith Hernandez “is greater than” overrated?

        • therealsince86 says:

Thinking the same thing. He is way way greater than overrated.
I guess intelligent Philly fan is way way underrated.

        • gipper82475 says:

Yup, he is far greater than overrated.

Leave it to the limited intellect of a Philthy fan to mess up something that simple.

Poor guy probably ignored anything Philthy-related and was doing hot-stove Eagles and Flyers stuff during the years that Keith and the Mets owned the Philthies.

  73. Church4prez says:

i disagree with keith saying that the angel game was the turning point. the 2nd phillie game was

    • rM teM says:

the turning point was the last 2 games willie managed. let’s give credit where it’s due.

  74. teufelshuffle86 says:

Don’t know what Delgado was swinging at there but I’ll take it.

  75. Church4prez says:

    missed sign?

  76. bigvito22 says:

    LOL Delgado running

  77. Church4prez says:

why the hell does every1 in the media keep saying should the mets go after manny? ITS NOT HAPPENIN

  78. Nightlife says:

    WTF was that?

  79. therealsince86 says:

    LOL.

  80. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Better than when they have the fat guys dancing.

  81. MainStMets23 says:

love the marlins cheer leaders/ dancers..so hott they made keith lose his train of thought

  82. Nightlife says:

CB Bucknor runs a CLEAN game, folks!!

  83. gipper82475 says:

Ugh….marriage does not agree with Jose.

  84. MetsFan1989 says:

thank god johan went the way maine not looking good pitch count wise

  85. losmets5 says:

    Nice Reyes.

  86. Nightlife says:

Good play by Jose, terrible base running by Hermida.

  87. gipper82475 says:

What the heck was Hermida thinking there?

  88. MainStMets23 says:

so do we think that maine and or ollie will match last seasons win/loss records?

  89. losmets5 says:

Trying to make it on ESPN, Maine?

  90. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Not only do the Marlins give the opposition more outs with shoddy D, they run into outs themselves, thanks a lot fellas.

  91. gipper82475 says:

Way too many pitches, as has been plaguing Maine this year….but at least part of it tonight is Bucknor’s strike zone.

  92. 911nafstem says:

I see Nady has yet to get a hit for the Yankees. It sucks because I like the guy, but I hope he just goes into the tank.

  93. Church4prez says:

    ibanez base hit 1-1.

  94. 911nafstem says:

Does anyone else notice how Maine looks absolutely miserable when he pitches?

  95. losmets5 says:

    Oh, Tatis.

  96. EV says:

Hey guys, just so you know. I was on here the other night and there was a guy called Phillies fan on Wall Street. Now there is a guy called Mets fan on Wall Street and if you read his last post he sounds like an anti-Mets fan. I swear these Phillies are PATHETIC LOSERS. Why did you change your name, scared of some abuse?

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Dude I’ve been posting on here for a couple of years. Read my posts, they are all in favor of the Mets.

      • gipper82475 says:

Yes, we know Mets fan on Wall Street well….Philly fan on Wall St is here too tonight. They are different peeps. MFOWS been here for a long time.

    • the Straw says:

Listen if my big mid-season trade was acquiring Joe Blanton, I would probably troll other team blogs too.

  97. losmets5 says:

    Good

  98. Nightlife says:

Marlins announcers have shockingly not terribly offended me yet.

  99. Church4prez says:

how bout dem braves. man they r bad. gettin smoked and they r just awful

    dl list
    glavine
    hampton
    smoltz
    hudson
    larry

  100. the Straw says:

How come all the post about how Jerry Manuel will make no difference to this team and Willie shouldnt have been fired area all gone?

Where did all you pro-Willie, anti-Jerry guys go????

    • rM teM says:

I thought Willie should be fired, But I think yhe mets did it in a gutless way. I also think that the team would be playing just as well with willie, they were starting to turn it around when he was fired. he was fired after a win for gods sake.

      • the Straw says:

hahahaah just the same with willie???? after 170 games of sub .500 baseball….they were right about to turn things around for willie?

after delgado looked like a single A player for 3 months, he was about to turn it around for Willie?

Lets face it, Jerry is the guy they needed to turn this ship around.

        • 911nafstem says:

Not to pat myself on the back, but I knew that there was no logical reason not to make the change if only to make a change.

    • 911nafstem says:

Try to make a comment about how you are happy that Willie is gone and they will all creep out of the sewers, don’t worry

  101. EV says:

Can Schneider get another hit? I know he’s really good defensivley but he is an awful hitter.

    • Church4prez says:

he is allowed to never get a hit again cause he got the biggest hit of the yr

      • therealsince86 says:

But that would make his BARISP around .0000009. Thus he would be a terrible player and unclutch. In fact it would show he is a bum and hates baseball.

    • ReyesMets says:

Agreed. Absolutely atrocious hitter. No power whatsoever–seriously, NONE. And virtually never hits a ball hard.

The only redeeming factor is that he is taking a few walks this year

      • SethH says:

Almost all of his walks are coming in front of the pitcher. I think Schnides, all told, is the third best catcher on this team.

        • therealsince86 says:

Hard for his walks to not come from in front of the pitcher being that he bats 8th. LOL.
Besides there is something to be said for clearing the pitcher.

    • SethH says:

Schneider’s catcher’s ERA is worse than Castro’s. And you have to go back to 2004 to find a year where Schnides’s catcher’s ERA was better than his team’s ERA. Not sure he even deserves his reputation for defense.

  102. Championmets says:

Does anyone know why Fernando Martinez was taken out of the B-mets game after 1 at bat

    • EV says:

When did this happen tonight? I knew he was taken out last week because of a sore hamstring.

    • Nightlife says:

      Trade for Ibanez!!!!!!

      :p

      • therealsince86 says:

        I think I would ….. Uh I don’t even know what I would do.
        He is clutch though.

        • 911nafstem says:

I bet he would do very good here. He’s a solid run producer and he strikes me as a guy who would thrive in a position where he would be 5th or 6th in the offensive depth chart.

  103. EV says:

So far so good with Maine.

  104. nysportsfan16 says:

Way to go Maine 5 K’s already

  105. 911nafstem says:

Is there some kind of unwritten rule in baseball that in the second half of the season every team ahead of the Yankees in the wild card race has to lay down and die?

  106. mdemaio says:

Completely off-topic…just had a strange thought after looking at the standings…

It’s possible that this year’s division winners in each league will be from the same city:

    Angels/Dodgers
    White Sox / Cubs
    Mets / Yankees

It would get even weirder if the Marlins and Rays made the wild card…

  107. Championmets says:

Yea f mart started the game tonight, but was taken out after one at bat

  108. Church4prez says:

PARNELL WAS TAKEN OUT AFTER 2 INNINGS AS WELL!

  109. bigvito22 says:

I’m loving this free-swinging Marlins lineup. Way to go John!!!

  110. Nightlife says:

Best inning from Maine so far tonight. I’m hoping he can maybe go 7, but it’ll probably be 6.

  111. Championmets says:

yea but parnell pitched seven innings on sunday, i don’t get it

  112. Church4prez says:

we might have a big trade??

  113. EV says:

Good point Church, that is possible.

  114. Church4prez says:

how bout reports out of boston that they r talkin about tejada

  115. SovereignRonnie says:

You’re looking at the boxscore of the completion of a suspended game from 7/19. Parnell pitched two innings, FMart had 1 AB. They were removed from the game 10 days ago.

  116. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

There’s the Uggla we know and love (when he plays against us).

  117. gipper82475 says:

And his name is STILL Dan UGGLA!

    • Nightlife says:

I was on the phone with a friend when this play happened and he uttered that same line.

  118. therealsince86 says:

Dunn 1-1 with RISP tonight. He is clutch.

    • SovereignRonnie says:

Any chance we can have Ibanez and Dunn settle this one out by wrestling each other, feats of strength style?

No one gets traded for until they can pin Omar Minaya.

    • ReyesMets says:

I actually love Dunn as a player.

Take away the RBI’s (which are a result of context and the players in front of you) and he has been the exact same player as Ryan Howard in his career (look at the OBP and SLUGGING) at a more premium position.

I think Dunn is so unfairly maligned and underrated. The guy is a very legit offensive force.

      • therealsince86 says:

Agreed but lets not start it again. I should not have posted anything. I was pushing C4P a little on how insane is Ibanez hard on is.

      • Koko says:

Or if you take seasonal averages.

Howard hits 30 points higher, slugs 60 points higher, and has an OPS of 67 points higher. I guess that means they are the same player.

        • ginsengbomb says:

No, it just means Adam Dunn is almost as good as Ryan Howard, and yet for some bizarre reason, most people seem to have no interest in him.

        • Koko says:

Almost as good? Not sure I see that from career averages. The only thing that is similar is OBP. Both play in a sandbox, so the fields don’t matter.

Howard is the better player, average, power, slugging, etc. .

If Dunn costs nothing that is fine get him, but while Howard is crappy defensively you can live with that at 1B, not so easily in LF with fly ball pitchers the Mets have.

  119. kd bart says:

Nolasco has a wicked curve going tonight.

    • therealsince86 says:

I really don’t know why all pitchers do not use their curve 80% of the time against us.

  120. Church4prez says:

bay up 2 on no out

  121. MetsFan1989 says:

hahaha GARY “how does he not impale people” LMFAO

  122. j_k says:

Seriously, I DON’T WANT ANY TRADES.

We already got Johan, what more do we need? We were supposed to dominate, and we are dominating now. I would take this team, without Church even, over almost any other team. Honestly, we are in perfect position to be good now and in the future, why trade away any of our future when our present is so bright.

  123. EV says:

Honestly, I would take Dunn if we didn’t have to give up alot plus isn’t he a free agent at the end of the year so that means two draft picks. Nolasco has nasty stuff.

  124. Church4prez says:

    o boy

  125. bigvito22 says:

    Great…

  126. Nightlife says:

Oh no, Muniz warming up. UGH.

  127. Championmets says:

    whats up with maine

  128. teufelshuffle86 says:

    what happened?

  129. Church4prez says:

    GET MAINE OUT NOW!

  130. EV says:

What’s wrong with Maine? Oh man

  131. Championmets says:

    oh sh*t

  132. Church4prez says:

OMAR GET ON THE PHONE NOW FOR A STARTER

    • therealsince86 says:

Are you a pimp that wants Omar to get screwed? Maine shows one sign of MAYBE being hurt and you want him to get a starter.
Omar “Uh this is to all GM’s, Maine is injured so I will be bending over to get a starter before this game is over.”

  133. teufelshuffle86 says:

    looks like he’s okay.

  134. Nightlife says:

    Well, that was predictable.

  135. alpitt says:

i think john maine is clinically depressed

  136. 911nafstem says:

Maine looked fine until he was interrupted.

  137. EV says:

    Please don’t bring Muniz in!!!!!

  138. Church4prez says:

    jerry will cut maine

  139. ReyesMets says:

    What the F????

    I don’t get it.

Can’t wait for the Carlos Muniz show.

  140. Championmets says:

    oh look whos coming in

  141. MetsFan1989 says:

well game over guys. lets win tommrowo b/c we lost tonight/ “MUNIZ”

  142. Church4prez says:

    yes muniz

  143. alpitt says:

    did he get traded???

  144. Nightlife says:

    Damn it.

    Muniz coming in. Game over.

  145. EV says:

You got to be kidding me. Oh God Muniz

  146. The Slider says:

I had changed the channel. WTF just happened? Somebody fill me in.

    • gipper82475 says:

No way. Real fans don’t change the channel in midst of a pennant race against a division rival.

      ;-)

      • The Slider says:

I know. I got caught at the commercial watching Olbermann. At least I was honest.

        • gipper82475 says:

Ugh, even worse, watching that hack.

LOL….you can figure it out reading the thread.
Jerry and trainer came out,. Maine acted fine and befuddled by interruption.

Next pitch home run…..next batter loud fly out, then Jerry out to take Maine out of the game…Maine very ticked.

  147. alpitt says:

    no one has any idea

  148. metsfan42793 says:

muniz is the biggest piece of garbage ive ever seen.

  149. the Straw says:

can someone tell me what the F### is going on here? Why is Maine coming out? What is the SNY broadcast saying?

  150. Dafatone80 says:

Um… anyone have any idea what’s going on? The florida announcers are confused, as usual.

  151. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Muniz is terrible. Game over.

  152. bigvito22 says:

Well, looks like we need to hope for another bullpen-saving gem out of Perez tomorrow

  153. MetsFan4Decades says:

Feeling bad for Maine. He obviously is one unhappy camper right now.

Muniz – he’d better make a better showing here than he did Sat. night…

  154. EV says:

I’m telling you John Maine and his looks make Ollie Perez look normal on the mound. He has some really bad habits, I don’t know where the heck he got it.

    • The Slider says:

What do you mean “bad habits”? What’s going on here????

I feel like I’m in the Baseball Twilight Zone.

  155. metsfan42793 says:

i dont get why maine is not in there. jerry has the right to be concerned about his players but it seems that he is too overconcerned let him finish the inning. he can have a broken right arm and be better then carlos muniz

  156. 911nafstem says:

2 outs away from a completed game, that’s concerning. WTF is the problem???

  157. novanoto says:

this could sound crazy, and i have no idea, cause im on the fish broadcast, but maybe maine was traded?

  158. teufelshuffle86 says:

The Florida announcers are saying that they may have charged the Mets with another trip to the mound, thus requiring them to remove Maine.

    • the Straw says:

yeah but thats not is bc jerry was pulling maine immediately, its not like he was going out just to talk to maine, and the ump said you gotta take him out now.

  159. EV says:

SNY hasn’t said anything yet. Muniz, why is he on this team!!!!!1

  160. metsfan42793 says:

    CARLOS MUNIZ SUCKS

  161. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nope……should have left Johnny in…..

  162. nobeers says:

    Over-managing?

    • The Slider says:

Exactly. Manuel is an idiot. That much was clear from the last three Santana starts.

  163. Nightlife says:

    Muniz is so freaking awful.

  164. Koko says:

Is this Matt’s getting pulled theory?

Maine for Manny. . . . And then promote Niese in Houston????

  165. gipper82475 says:

Why is Muniz in the bigs again?

  166. teufelshuffle86 says:

Here we go, please DFA this piece of garbage.

  167. 911nafstem says:

This is frustrating. Kevin Burkhardt has to step in up here

  168. Championmets says:

    mets need 10 more runs

  169. metsfan42793 says:

john maine is better with a broken arm than carlos muniz

  170. bigvito22 says:

Regardless of how he pitches tonight, we have to send down Muniz after the game and call up Vargas. We’re going to need another fresh arm in the bullpen yet again

  171. 911nafstem says:

    clutch catch!

  172. metsfan42793 says:

    what a catch

  173. khmustache says:

    WRIGHT!!!

  174. ReyesMets says:

    good god David Wright

  175. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Mr. Gold Glove !!!!!!!!!!!

  176. MetsFan1989 says:

y does muniz always get called up. isnt their ne 1 better down there

  177. the Straw says:

If maine gets traded I am hanging in my lifetime NY Mets fan membership.

  178. reyesnwright says:

WOW…That was huge…if they can get out of this now, hopefully they take out Muniz

  179. therealsince86 says:

We don’t need no stinkin relievers.

  180. Championmets says:

    we need that from wright

  181. ASod1975 says:

Muniz is NOT a major-league pitcher. He might be able to get AAA hitters out, but he doesn’t have good stuff at all (as I type this Schneider makes a great play on a 50-foot breaking ball). WHAT A NICE PLAY BY WRIGHT!!!!! Sorry guys, watching the game as I try to make a point, that being Muniz spells Ulcer City. Hey, he fits right in with the rest of the pen for that matter……

  182. alpitt says:

    Wow

  183. The Slider says:

    DW wanted that one.

  184. Church4prez says:

    DW

  185. Championmets says:

    thank god that was foul

  186. 911nafstem says:

jesus, GET THIS GUY OUTTA THERE

  187. metsfan42793 says:

    JEEZUS MUNIZ

  188. The Slider says:

Manuel is a moron. This is torture.

  189. reyesnwright says:

Jeez…hope he hits one hard right at someone…really our only shot here.

  190. Nightlife says:

I thought David was going to go face first into the seats.

  191. EV says:

    That Was WAY TO CLOSE.

  192. Church4prez says:

    MUNIZ SUCKS

  193. ReyesMets says:

I’m flabbergasted about this…the whole turn of events is so perplexing

  194. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Get Muniz Out Of There.

  195. Nightlife says:

Muniz got pretty lucky on that one.

  196. Championmets says:

    Muniz sucks

  197. Church4prez says:

O MY GOD MUNIZ IS LUCKY

  198. The Slider says:

Muniz better now come out for the next inning.

  199. neoncleon says:

Please keep Carlos Muniz away from my team, from now on!

  200. bigvito22 says:

Muniz is gonna give me a coronary…and to think, we are gonna send him out for another inning

  201. reyesnwright says:

I really, really hope Muniz doesn’t start the 6th.

  202. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Cohen ‘A scary inning’.
And I’m going on record saying that’s the last inning we’d better see Muniz on that mound….

  203. 911nafstem says:

I’m not going to kill Jerry yet, because I have no idea what the hell is going on, but seriously, there has to be something seriously wrong to take out Maine in that spot

  204. ReyesMets says:

Everything from this mysterious “non-injury” to bringing in the batting practice pitcher doesn’t make sense

  205. EV says:

I want Muniz OUT!!!! I thought that one was gone too.

  206. metsfan42793 says:

if the bullpen holds up the lead muniz is going to get the win. haha

  207. Church4prez says:

    Maine has been traded??

  208. gipper82475 says:

    No more Muniz, please!

  209. Nightlife says:

We caught a break this inning.

  210. teufelshuffle86 says:

Can we send Muniz down to New Orleans before the start of the 6th inning?

  211. EV says:

Can we get a report on Maine please.

  212. the Straw says:

has anyone figured out why maine came out?

  213. Church4prez says:

Doc Halladay has been scratched for tommorrows start for undisclosed reasons

    • therealsince86 says:

He is having dinner with Hoffa, Elvis, JFK and your random comments.

      • Church4prez says:

        trade??

        • therealsince86 says:

Again, too much conspiracy theories here.
We are not getting Holliday nor are they trading him. They would be much more likely to trade Burnett and could get top prospects for him.

  214. teufelshuffle86 says:

Every ball hit off Muniz was smoked.

  215. ASod1975 says:

Alright, exhale and get Carlos “Batting Practice” Muniz out of this game now! At least with Heath Bell, you could see the guy had some decent stuff (mid to upper 90s fastball, tough slider). He was just way too inconsistent, probably from never really being given a great shot to prove himself. I know, I know, he was called up a million times, but he was the last guy in the pen and often would go long stretches without working and then would be put into situations where he would be a sacrificial lamb in blowouts. Muniz, well…he just sucks.

  216. metsfan42793 says:

watch carlos muniz get the win

  217. Championmets says:

back to back to back homers

  218. ReyesMets says:

If there were a *SERIOUS* injury concern, there is no way Maine would just be sitting there on the bench

  219. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on. We need like a half dozen more runs here…..

  220. ASod1975 says:

I miss the Ricky Nolasco who was routinely rocked by the Mets in years past. His stuff has looked pretty nasty this year for the most part.

  221. The Slider says:

Apparently the only person who knows why Maine why taken out is Manuel.

  222. mookie says:

I have to second guess this one. It seems that he’s fine, and now are crapy bullpen is going to be overused. Santana’s cg is worthless now, because our crappy bullpen needs a break. We really need a reliever more than we need an outfielder.

  223. fsolomon75 says:

What’s with Maine? If he’s hurt, why is he still in the dugout? If he’s not hurt, why was he pulled?

  224. Nightlife says:

    Good AB’s Carlos y Carlos.

  225. nobeers says:

Ive had a weird feeling for a while that Maine doesnt get on with Jerry very well and maybe even Warthen.

  226. Championmets says:

    manuel high

  227. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Thank the Gods for Tatis……

  228. bigvito22 says:

Blue Jays LHP Brian Tallet has been placed on the DL…..cross him off your wishlist

  229. kd bart says:

Muniz is the 12th pitcher on a 12 man staff. You’re not going to find much better than him in the same position on other staffs and there is nothing better in the minors. Your only other alternative there is Joe Smith. You’re not using Shoen or Feliciano because they’re lefty specialists.

  230. neoncleon says:

News Flash: We need another Relief Pitcher. Hell. ride Tatis, wait for Church….but we need someone else (pref. a RHP) in the BP.

  231. Church4prez says:

    Adam dunn GS!!

    • neoncleon says:

      huh?

    • therealsince86 says:

2-2 with RISP. The man defines Clutch.

    • Wright88 says:

Lets trade for him based on one AB.

      • therealsince86 says:

Right, that is what we do on here.
Ibanez gets a hit and we should trade for him.
Holliday gets a HR so we can’t get him, the rockies are keeping him.
Manny gets a hit and we should get him but can’t.
Maine goes out of game with very little chance of serious injury and Omar HAS to get on the phone and get a starter right now.
Dunn hits a grand slam and …… still sucks. LOL.

    • SovereignRonnie says:

      Donkey Slammo

    • Nightlife says:

      Way to go Duaner.

  232. reyesnwright says:

So Muniz is going to pitch to the middle of a very good lineup with a 1 run lead? Great.

  233. Desperad07 says:

If he was traded, why would he be sitting on the bench? That just doesn’t make sense. He’d be right into the clubhouse and out of there.

    • the Straw says:

also if he was traded, why would the trainer run out to see maine have him throw practice pitches, allow him to continue, and then have manuel pull him?

if he was traded, you would just pull him right away.

      • therealsince86 says:

Don’t tell the conspiracy people on here.
Imagine that, Jerry sends the trainer out to take care of his buisness then Maine says no. Manuel says you don’t mess with me, I’ll cut you and Maine walks to the bench.

  234. MetsFaninCA says:

wasn’t Maine bothered by a blister or something with his finger a while ago? Maybe something like that would be why he’s still on the bench.

  235. EV says:

You got to be kidding me they are bringing Muniz out again.

  236. MetsFan4Decades says:

Muniz back to the mound for the bottom of the 6th.
    Taking a deep breath……

  237. Church4prez says:

    Adam dunn still sucks

    • Andrew says:

I’ll happily take Adam Dunn sucking his way to 40 home runs and an OBP of .380 any and every season.

    • therealsince86 says:

Good, if you wanted him then I would have to change my mind because I would not be thinking rational.

  238. AzMetsFan says:

i think we are getting greedy with Muniz going back out there.

  239. teufelshuffle86 says:

Who hits the first double this inning, Uggla or Willingham?

  240. bigvito22 says:

    Come on Muniz!!!

  241. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Gravity is going to keep those meatballs Muniz is throwing in the park for only so much longer, please develop major league quality pitches Muniz during that last half inning

  242. the Straw says:

i know some of you out there are watching this game on sny and not the marlins broadcast like me….what is gary, keith, and ron saying about Maine?

    NO news?

  243. Championmets says:

mets just called up willie calazo, he’s got to be better

  244. neoncleon says:

This is KINDA like Willie trotting out Mota last year….like everybody knows he is gonna get rocked…..hoping I am wrong

    • The Slider says:

Uh, no it’s not. Willie didn’t take pitchers like Maine out of the game for no apparent reason.

  245. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Great. He can’t field either…..

  246. 911nafstem says:

    unreal

  247. MetsFan1989 says:

wow nice one muniz u bum

  248. reyesnwright says:

    are you kidding me?

  249. khmustache says:

    cmon muniz

  250. alpitt says:

    piss poor

  251. 911nafstem says:

It’ll be a miracle if the Mets pull this one out

  252. Desperad07 says:

Hey Jerry, are you kidding me with these pitching decisions? Cut this moron.

  253. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Uggla make believe it’s the all-star game.

  254. neoncleon says:

You’ve gotta be kidding. Muniz LOST HIS SHOE????

  255. Wright88 says:

    Wow…sometimes Uggla looks so bad.

  256. Championmets says:

    we need a double play

  257. 911nafstem says:

I feel like the Mets are in a fistfight with one arm tied behind their back

  258. metsfan42793 says:

in about a minute im going to have to take a carlos muniz

  259. metsfan101589 says:

did he forget to tie his shoes or were they tied together?

  260. MetsFan1989 says:

uggla does not have that good of an eye at the plate

  261. gipper82475 says:

I find Jerry’s whole gangsta thing as amusing as anyone, but he needn’t smoke the crack to maintain the gangsta image!

  262. Church4prez says:

    F**k CB BUCKNOR

  263. metsfan42793 says:

you better not walk him muniz

  264. Championmets says:

    we needed that

  265. rM teM says:

    thank god

  266. ReyesMets says:

    WOO!!!!

  267. Wright88 says:

    there ya go

  268. metsfan42793 says:

    HALLELUJAH

  269. bigvito22 says:

    DOUBLE PLAY!!!

  270. MetsFan1989 says:

    WOW

  271. khmustache says:

    whew…

  272. reyesnwright says:

WOW…How bad has Ugla been since the all-star game.

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Since the ASG? How about during the ASG.

      • reyesnwright says:

I meant for my statement to include the ASG…I said at the time that it was the kind of game that could have a huge impact on the rest of his career.

    • The Slider says:

He’s been pretty Uggla since the ASG.

  273. MetsFan4Decades says:

O.K., Muniz. You’ve redeemed yourself for the moment….

  274. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

I knew you had it in ya Uggla.

  275. jcervone7 says:

Can someone tell me what the point of watching a game is when all you’re going to do is whine about how your team is going to blow it? Seriously, I don’t know if anyone realizes but the Mets are winning right now. God forbid you sit back and try to enjoy a game.

    • gipper82475 says:

You weren’t concerend with the whole Maine situation and Muniz’s performance?

      Do you have a pulse?

    • The Slider says:

      Smack.

    • therealsince86 says:

Eh, this site has became a venting post. I upset me so much to see this site go down hill that I retired for a couple of months. It’s a little more bearable now that we are winning but not much. I wish people could have seen this place pre 2007. It was incredible.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

I have no problem with the venting. The negativity though is another matter. I don’t understand those that had the season over in May, the games over in the first, the games over every time a run is scored by the opposition, etc….

Venting though – nothing wrong with that.

        • therealsince86 says:

That’s what venting is. Negativity, they are the same thing. It’s not like they are coming on here to vent positive things.

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

Respectfully, I disagree with that. But we’re all entitled to our opinion.

You’ll never hear me give up until the last pitch, the last out. But you will hear me moaning and groaning when it’s not going well….

  276. metsfan101589 says:

a minor miracle or dan uggla being crap?

  277. 911nafstem says:

    ALL-STAR Uggla to the rescue!

  278. ReyesMets says:

    BRING IN THE LEFTY

  279. Wright88 says:

    damn..don’t do this

  280. MetsFan1989 says:

    strike out or a bomb

  281. metsfan42793 says:

jacobs going to hit a homerun

  282. Church4prez says:

we apologize carlos but take him out now!!

  283. rM teM says:

    kill him

  284. Wright88 says:

Bring in the lefty vs. Jacobs. He is all or nothing and against Muniz I fear the worst.

  285. MetsFan1989 says:

o he finally tied his shoe.

  286. metsfan42793 says:

can kevin please give us an update

  287. Koko says:

Okay, now you only have one more coaching visit, but if you go visit you have to pull the pitcher. . . Understand?

  288. ReyesMets says:

Why are we content to just walk this guy???

  289. the Straw says:

ok these marlins announcers are fools…Muniz a stumble and then a limp….HE LOST HIS SHOE YOU MORONS.

  290. metsfan42793 says:

what was the point of that

  291. MetsFan1989 says:

how does Joe Neise and robby parnell thorw? they thorw hard? soft?

    • Wright88 says:

Niese throws rather soft, like low 90. Parnell throws pretty hard, but I don’t think he is that good.

  292. ReyesMets says:

Unreal decision-making here. We deserve to get burned for this

  293. Church4prez says:

any1 think maine has been traded?

  294. The Slider says:

    Ross scares me.

  295. Wright88 says:

For such a good defensive catcher, he gets a lot of passed balls

    • Dafatone80 says:

He does give up a lot of passed balls.

That’s one skill that Mike had that nobody really recognized.

  296. metsforever says:

How much for a ticket from MIA to NO?

I thought Schneider was a defensive specialist.

  297. 911nafstem says:

    Schneider is a horrible receiver

  298. SethH says:

Schneider is OVERRATED defensively. How many times is he going to flat out drop the ball?

  299. gipper82475 says:

Gonna be a looong press conference for Jerry

    • The Slider says:

I know the answer. Jerry could tell from Maine’s body language that he’s not feeling himself. Just like he could tell from Santana’s body language against the last start against the Phillies.

Manuel’s a JO. Now the game is tied. F’n great.

  300. reyesnwright says:

I think they gotta play castro more like 3 or 4 out of every 5…Yeah Schneider is better at throwing out runners, but he has missed a lot of pitches he should have caught and Castro is one of their best hitters.

  301. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Come on Schneider!

  302. metsfan42793 says:

do u think omar minaya can come out to the mound and send down muniz on the mound

  303. teufelshuffle86 says:

How was that ruled a WP?

  304. therealsince86 says:

To make a comparison the Mets have … more wins than either of you.
    Man these announcers are terrible.

  305. 911nafstem says:

    that passed ball was huge

  306. ReyesMets says:

    what a surprise! unbelievable

  307. metsfan42793 says:

    who didnt see that coming

  308. MetsFan1989 says:

that should be charged to schneider

  309. bigvito22 says:

    YOU SUCK MUNIZ!!!

    • SovereignRonnie says:

to be fair, that was a good piece of hitting by Ross. That was a pretty nasty pitch (albeit, ball 4) and Ross just blooped it to center.

That said, why on earth did he pitch around Jacobs…

  310. 911nafstem says:

    can we have Milledge back?

  311. Championmets says:

    yeh who didn’t see that

  312. Church4prez says:

    FIRE JERRY

  313. rM teM says:

yeah, he’s a lot better than willie

  314. ReyesMets says:

Oh now we go to the lefty! Thanks Jerry

  315. 911nafstem says:

horrible managing by Jerry, why fck around with Muniz? Just put in Pedro against Jacobs

  316. JoseReyesForPresident says:

ugh send that muniz guy down he sucks.

  317. gipper82475 says:

Jerry Manuel pulling a Willie tonight.

Stupidity in the managers’ office returns……

  318. metsfan42793 says:

jerry is not very good at managing the bullpen

  319. SethH says:

Jerry really screwed the pooch tonight. Why in the world would we pitch around Mike Jacobs with no one on in the 6th inning, with Cody Ross on deck?

    Off-night for Jerry.

  320. Wright88 says:

Not really Muniz’s fault. Good pitch, Ross just got lucky. Schneider shouldn’t have missed that ball either.

  321. EV says:

Yea seriously Schneider is a bit overrated.

  322. Koko says:

    Good job Jerry. . . . .

  323. 911nafstem says:

Gift doesn’t seem to be strong enough a word if the Marlins win this game.

  324. bigvito22 says:

Like I said, call up Vargas. We need a long man that can actually…go long

  325. The Slider says:

    Jerk

    Off.

  326. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Muniz blows.

  327. alpitt says:

As long as we get out of the inning with a tie I’d consider it a success…but until then

  328. Wright88 says:

Are people questioning Maine being pulled? There has to be something wrong.

  329. The Slider says:

Here the obligatory HBP by Feliciano.

  330. bringbackolerud5 says:

BRIAN SCHNEIDER = YOU ARE HORRENDOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  331. 911nafstem says:

So Schneider can’t hit and can’t catch and the only time he is effective is when someone is trying to steal.

  332. ReyesMets says:

God I love this team…BUT, this game has been VERY mismanaged in every sense

  333. bringbackolerud5 says:

Ramon Castro MUST start playing everyday!!!

  334. Church4prez says:

why was maine pulled then?? he was not hurt

  335. reyesnwright says:

I actually feel bad for Muniz…Yeah he got hit hard last inning, but that passed ball by Schneider was clearly not his fault and that game tying hit was on a good pitch. He didn’t give up a hard hit ball all inning.

  336. nobeers says:

Im sure glad that this game isnt important. If it was, id be really upset.

  337. novanoto says:

according to the fish announcers, maine has a “sore forearm,” no other details though

  338. metsfan101589 says:

he needed to keep muniz in the game because he didn’t want to go to joe smith/schoenweis early. He doesn’t want to use heilman, and sanchez isn’t an 8th inning guy right now. He tried to will muniz through the inning, but it didn’t work out, good pitch, bad luck.

and as I type feliciano got the lefty, now lets go get nolasco and get this lead back!!

  339. SovereignRonnie says:

Can Pedro be an effective LOOGY?

  340. j_k says:

Are we down by twenty or something? Why are people losing their minds over this tie game?

Even if we lose, it’s not the end of the world. Come on people, we’re playing well, not every single game should put your family on suicide watch. People are supposed to enjoy baseball.

  341. alpitt says:

Someone put maine on suicide watch, seriously

  342. c.1970 says:

Ludicrous to put the go-ahead run on base [Jacobs] with 2 outs and absolutely no strategy. I never saw that before. I’m curious to see Manuel’s postgame explanation.

  343. anonymii says:

Am i hearing this right? It sounds like there’s an actual crowd cheering in Dolphin Stadium.

  344. bringbackolerud5 says:

Brian Schneider has 8 extra base hits in 224 at bats. That is beyond God-awful. I bet C.C. Sabathia finishes the year with more extra base hits.

  345. therealsince86 says:

What I don’t get is why people all of a sudden think that there is no way Maine would not have given up 1 run in another 1 2/3 innings. Especially considering there had to be some reason he was pulled.

    • nobeers says:

God has a plan for everyone, and tonight God’s plan was to give Maine a win. Thats why.

  346. 911nafstem says:

nice, the Beave is in to strike out on 3 pitches

  347. Championmets says:

maybe we traded maine and prospects for roy halliday

    • j_k says:

Your inability to spell “Halladay” kind of hurts your credibility there.

    • therealsince86 says:

      Can you guys PLEASE STOP?
They sent the trainer out to tell Maine he had been traded?

  348. bringbackolerud5 says:

Another gem tonight by Schneider….0 for 2 with 2 K’s and a huge botched defensive play……

  349. teufelshuffle86 says:

These promos with Cody Ross are unbearable.

  350. EV says:

Manuel has done a TERRIBLE job managing this game.

    • therealsince86 says:

Because there is no way an injured Maine would not have given up 1 run.

      • ReyesMets says:

that’s not the point, in the least. There is no justification for “intentionally” putting the tying run, Mike Jacobs–MIKE JACOBS!!!–on base just to match up with a righty with a well-below average pitcher on the mound to begin with

    • j_k says:

OMG I can’t believe it – he’s the worst manager ever, his team is only like, 12 games over .500

  351. Church4prez says:

TRADE EVANS HIS VALUE IS AS HIGH AS EVER

  352. ReyesMets says:

    GREAT at-bat NICKY-boy

  353. metsfan101589 says:

nice walk nick, good at bat. way to show um you can be a nice potential player.

  354. Wright88 says:

Why is Evans still on this team. He was doing great in the minors, we’re stalling his development so he can be the 25th guy on our team. We should bring up some veteran or something, he is too young and not doing well enough here to be on the bench.

    • SovereignRonnie says:

He has made some strides since being in the majors… better pitch selection, better swings… but I agree with you, he should be playing every day at Bingo.

      • gipper82475 says:

Eh, we’re already very deep on the depth chart with Endy starting, Tatis starting, Pagan out, Marlon getting starts, etc. This is why we need another OF bat – to improve the lineup AND the bench (i.e. no more Evans).

        • SovereignRonnie says:

I think Evans is keeping the spot warm when/if Church (or anyone acquired) arrives. I like what I see from Evans but he needs to develop and fill out a bit. I don’t think Aguila or Pascucci are the answers.

  355. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Come on Shrek!

  356. alpitt says:

I absolutely hate watching games in this stadium. Dim, lifeless, depressing. Like a mausoleum.

  357. The Slider says:

Now the Mets are saying that Maine had “stiffness in his shoulder.”

  358. fsolomon75 says:

Now the Fish guys are saying “sore shoulder” for Maine…

  359. Championmets says:

    stiffness in shoulder, bull

  360. khmustache says:

maine has a stiff pitching shoulder

  361. Wright88 says:

Stiffness in pitching shoulder for Maine.

  362. the Straw says:

Lets all calm down… we are still going to win this game. we are still going to be in 1st place. Jerry has gotten more out of this team in 50 games than WIllie got in a year and a half.

Lets go Mets….btw, stiffness in maines right shoulder.

    • The Slider says:

Jerry hasn’t gotten anything out of anybody. He just happened not to be Willie Randolph with his a$$ on the firing line every day.

So far, I haven’t seen Manuel do anything except screw up 4 starting pitching performances. 3 by Santana and now 1 by Maine.

      • therealsince86 says:

Right, because again there is no way that Maine was injured and no way he would have given up a run in 1 2/3 innings.

      • the Straw says:

ok thats why the mets are 15-4 since july 5th. the best record in baseball….yeah jerry really sucks a$$.

      • kingman 26 says:

Slider, this is a really, really silly post.

Jerry has been getting good starts–and more innings from starters every night.

He is playing who is hot and using the entire team.

He is a true grown-up in his delaings with the media, respectful and never too high or low.

And he is calm to the public, but fiery as hell on the field.

He may not be John McGraw or Gil Hodges or even my childhood hero Davey Johnson, but so far he has done a great, great job, and get used to him, as he will most likely be around for awhile–I hope.

  363. teufelshuffle86 says:

    A. Reyes should give Maine bunting lessons.

  364. tatislover17 says:

METS ACQUIRED CHAD BRADFORD according to ESPN 1050

  365. metsfan101589 says:

stiffness in his pitching shoulder, didn’t pedro have that, and it turned into something else?

  366. 911nafstem says:

    please swing the bat jose

  367. rM teM says:

    of course it’s stiff….he’s a pitcher,,,duh

  368. tatislover17 says:

BRADFORD WAS ACQUIRED BY THE METS TWO YEARS AGO…………HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

  369. Church4prez says:

    TRADE FOR AJ BURNETT~!!

  370. Nate W. says:

…really interesting sequence of PH moves by Manual here. Could Willie even conceptualize an inning like this, much less do it mid game?

  371. alpitt says:

not cool on the trade report

  372. bringbackolerud5 says:

Look, we all love Manuel, but this has not been a well managed game at all. Not at all.

    • 911nafstem says:

of course it wouldn’t be much of an issue if the Mets offense hadn’t packed it in after the 2nd inning

    • The Slider says:

I don’t love Manuel. As far as I’m concerned the jury is still out on him. I haven’t seen him do anything special. And I’ve seen him screw up a bunch of times with his use of the bullpen.

The players are winning these games. Not Manuel.

And you can see what he’s done to this game.

  373. rM teM says:

    he’s a genius when everybody’s hitting

  374. Wright88 says:

Well the Maine move can’t be questioned anymore. He had a stiff shoulder, probably taken out for precautionary reasons.

    • The Slider says:

No. They say now it’s not a “stiff shoulder.” Maine apparently injured his “thingamajig” in between the “whadiyamacallit.”

      • Wright88 says:

Conspiracy theorist? He had a stiff shoulder, it happens.

        • The Slider says:

or was it? I thought they said it was his forearm that he had the ice on. He didn’t have ice on his shoulder. And, whatever it was, Maine didn’t want to come out.

        • Wright88 says:

Doesn’t matter, the player always wants to stay in but if he is uncomfortable you don’t want him altering the way he pitches. And he did start short arming the ball so they took him out.

  375. the Straw says:

God i wish we still had willie randolph and were still in 4th place in the division…

  376. wright2reyes says:

duaner needs to get bak on track

  377. 911nafstem says:

This guy has pssy single written all over him

  378. adenzeno says:

WHY does Jerry love the intentional BB??

  379. bigvito22 says:

    NICE K Duaner!!!

  380. metsfan101589 says:

cmon dirty, get through this inning, to get the big bats up.

  381. hi5wright says:

    Sanchez got an OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (1-7!!)

  382. the Straw says:

sanchez in the 7th inning? seems strange…i wonder if Joe Smith is the new set-up man?

    • Wright88 says:

Jerry said he won’t use Duaner in the 8th, I think 2 games ago. Heilman is the new setup guy I think, but he is unavailable today so probably Smith.

      • The Slider says:

        Heilman is the set-up guy.

        • gipper82475 says:

Straw hasn’t been paying attention….or, y’know, those burned out brain cells from all that blow.

Duaner’s velocity is down and has been struggling, resulting in Jerry moving him out of the 8th inning role.

        • The Slider says:

Only after Little Jerry got burned a couple of times.

  383. Wright88 says:

Damn…remember when Sanchez was lights out?

  384. MetsFan4Decades says:

You know, after the season ended last year, it was reported that Maine pitched with a sore hip all year – something he had as soon as the season started. Said it got worse the second half – which probably accounted for tailing off after the AS break.

This year, he’s had a dead arm, a cramp in the arm, now stiffness.

I still think Maine has the potential to be one hell of a pitcher and I certainly hope they do not give up on him.

  385. metsfan101589 says:

need to get a DP, do not want to see cantu up with any men on base in the late innings, he is kinda clutch

  386. rM teM says:

Sanchez did so well his last time out, he’s being “rewarded”

  387. Church4prez says:

    IBANEZ HR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • kingman 26 says:

      So what?

      This isn’t Marinersblog you site-clogging troll/weasel/attention-starved dingbat.

With freedom of speech comes responsibility my little teenage friend.

    • SovereignRonnie says:

If Ibanez ever goes missing, I think we should alert the authorities to check C4P’s place. He may have Raul holed up silence of the lambs style. Raul puts the pine tar on his bat or else he gets the hose again!

      • kingman 26 says:

This is great! Thanks for the laugh!

I am just picturing Churchy yelling at Ibanez “And it puts the pine tar on or it gets the hose.”

“Put the f%#$(@#* pine tar in the basket Raul!”

    • therealsince86 says:

Still got a long way to go to catch up to Mr. Clutch Dunn or the clutch sac fly from Huff.

  388. wright2reyes says:

    i hate hanley

  389. metsfan101589 says:

cmon please get cantu, i hate him up in late games situations

  390. 911nafstem says:

this is the game right here

  391. hi5wright says:

C’mon Sanchez PLEASE don’t screw this one up.

  392. 911nafstem says:

    wow, .419, that’s a solid average

  393. 911nafstem says:

    come on!

  394. hi5wright says:

    oh boy

  395. ReyesMets says:

    Great pick Carlos

  396. khmustache says:

wright is having a great game in the field!

  397. bigvito22 says:

    NICE!!!

  398. wright2reyes says:

nice whew got out of that inning……….lets score a run or two for the W

  399. metsfan101589 says:

nice scoop delgado, thank god, time to get at least 1 run!!!

  400. kingman 26 says:

    Question for Slider—

Who are some of the managers you think do a great job??

  401. MetsFan4Decades says:

Very nice, Duaner. We knew you’d come through….

  402. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Nice play Davey.

  403. the Straw says:

How many times do you see wright make a good play and then come up in the next inning and hit a lead-off Homerun….

  404. teufelshuffle86 says:

Sanchez only hitting around 89 on the gun,

  405. The Slider says:

So who’s going to save Little Jerry’s a$$ tonight:

    Blastro?

    Tatis?

    Argenis Reyes?

    Marlon Anderson?

    Delgado?

  406. metsfan101589 says:

go gettum delgado, time to get the big hit again.

  407. 911nafstem says:

    do you bunt?

  408. reyesnwright says:

    NICE! That was huge.

  409. 911nafstem says:

    NICE!

  410. metsfan101589 says:

smart play by david, geads up, that’s why HE is an all star

  411. MetsFan4Decades says:

David is just one smart ballplayer.

  412. Church4prez says:

    DAVID

  413. wright2reyes says:

the marlins defese is the worst ive ever seen…..their catcher has to cover the base

  414. therealsince86 says:

    Or you could do that.

  415. 911nafstem says:

Please don’t screw this up Beltran. Be aggressive here

  416. Nightlife says:

    GREAT baserunning by DW.

  417. teufelshuffle86 says:

    There ya go!!!

  418. ReyesMets says:

    ONE MORE TIME….Fernando

  419. metsfan101589 says:

tatis is clutch, he’ll come through, just going to add to his lure

  420. AzMetsFan says:

It’s always so satisfying to see the shift backfire

  421. gipper82475 says:

    Great heads-up by Wright.

  422. Church4prez says:

any1 know that an earthquake happened in the city of Ny tonight

  423. The Slider says:

Lots of Mets fans in Florida. Yeah.

  424. teufelshuffle86 says:

Go ahead and pitch to Tatis!!!!!

  425. therealsince86 says:

Only reason to walk Beltran there is to walk the bases loaded. Taking a lot of chances to get a DP here.

  426. amazin82 says:

Is Delgado actually putting himself in the Player of the Month discussion? I gotta admit I didn’t see this coming. “Even his outs are productive!”

    • khmustache says:

i don’t think there’s a discussion at all…he should have it hands down

  427. ReyesMets says:

    WOWZERS

  428. metsfan101589 says:

wide throw, dan uggla, is THE MAN

  429. jcervone7 says:

Haha, the Marlins announcer just said that Mets fans drown out Marlin fans because the Marlins fans are so laid back. I think “non-existent” is the term he was looking for.

  430. reyesnwright says:

    I LOVE UGGLA!!!

  431. EV says:

    YEA BABY!!!!!!!!!

  432. wright2reyes says:

yep the marlins defese is the worst………….no doubt!!!!!!!! lets get another insurance run.

  433. MetsFan4Decades says:

Well, thank the Gods for the little things – like the Marlin’s defense. They are just awful, but hey – I’ll take that run!

  434. Championmets says:

    thats the uggla we know

  435. gipper82475 says:

And his name is STILL DAN UGGGGGGGLAAAA!

  436. The Slider says:

who would have thought that Uggla would be the hero of the game for us?

Man, has Uggla stunk up the joint since the ASG. To be fair, though, Ramirez screwed up too.

  437. 911nafstem says:

I liked Tatis’ “OH SHT!” reaction when he hit the ball

  438. khmustache says:

    uggla = knoblauch

    • metsfan101589 says:

no, knoblach would have sent a lolly pop throw over to first, not a wide one.

  439. teufelshuffle86 says:

    hey-ohhhhhh!!!!

  440. NPerez says:

It seems Uggla hasn’t improved much since the All-Star game.. he fields at the level of a little-leaguer

  441. anonymii says:

I had a feeling they would score on a defensive mistake to break the tie.

  442. Nightlife says:

    Dan Uggla sucks.

  443. reyesnwright says:

I think it’s pretty fun how Gary was talking about how the Marlins announcers defend Uggla by saying he’s not that bad defensively and that he only has 6 errors…Well, he has 0 tonight and should have 3…a few games like that and you see why so many people say he’s a bad fielder despite having very few errors.

  444. The marlins defense is the equivalent of someone who fails the written test of the lerners permit test

    • metsfan101589 says:

i guess the words you would be looking for are, downright unbelievably bad.

  445. the Straw says:

That is the difference between striking out and any other out…right Adam Dunn?

  446. bringbackolerud5 says:

Dan Uggla should PRAY they never get rid of the DH in the American League.

  447. bigvito22 says:

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE MLB OFFICES: Errors will now be renamed to Ugglas

  448. 911nafstem says:

The police in Miami should arrest Uggla for every unsolved crime in the city like they did with Steve Sax in the Simpsons

  449. AzMetsFan says:

that run was Uggla but I’ll take it

  450. the Straw says:

So who pitches this inning? im assuming a lot of lefty righty matchups.

  451. reyesnwright says:

    Well that wasn’t good

  452. bringbackolerud5 says:

“I hear some guy was killed in New York the other night, but you wouldn’t know anything about that would you, Saxy boy?”

  453. 911nafstem says:

It wouldn’t be fun if it was 1-2-3

  454. reyesnwright says:

If anyone can ground into a DP with a runner on second, none out, It’s Uggla

  455. I hate Dan UGgla more then espn’s chris berman

  456. The Slider says:

    This doesn’t look good.

  457. VelvetFoot says:

Is Tatis a good outfielder? Should he have gotten to that ball? All I have is radio.

  458. KL15 says:

Why is it this team cannot put together 2 good games in a row lately? And what is going on with Maine?

    • therealsince86 says:

You do know it’s tied and we are in Florida and the Marlins are a pretty good team, Right?

  459. 911nafstem says:

    that was quick

  460. reyesnwright says:

    Jeez…what a nothing hit.

  461. metsfan101589 says:

    great job

  462. EV says:

    This freaking bullpen sucks

  463. AzMetsFan says:

well that lead was short lived

  464. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

What the hell has happened to our bullpen?

    • ASod1975 says:

Aside from that great stretch during the 10-game winning streak, the bullpen has pretty much blown all year.

  465. MetsFan4Decades says:

You just can’t make this stuff up.

Yet another night we’ll wind up using everyone out of the BP….

  466. The Slider says:

The Baseball Gods got mad at us for making too much fun of Dan Uggla.

  467. VelvetFoot says:

    Argh.

  468. LIMetfan74 says:

    This bullpen sucks!

  469. gipper82475 says:

This bullpen will be the death of us all.

  470. Nightlife says:

    Here comes HAMMER!!!

    God these guys are awful.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

The calls to the pen and the Cody Ross promos make me want to shove a pen in my ear.

  471. KL15 says:

    Game over, I’m out.

  472. EV says:

Yea who are the idiots saying the Mets don’t need to make a trade, hello they need another arm in the pen.

  473. metsfan101589 says:

were a show DP and an out away from facing gregg, this could not be so bad if the right things fall into place

  474. metmania says:

Our bullpen blows games like its there job

  475. teufelshuffle86 says:

Did anyone think Uggla wouldn’t redeem himself with the bat?

    • AzMetsFan says:

actually I didnt because I thought he would during all those errors in the ASG but he kept striking out, so I was hoping for the same luck.

  476. VelvetFoot says:

I don’t think this one will go 14.

  477. Koko says:

So our bullpen just fine – for those that said so today and yesterday?

Joe Smith is supposed to get right handers out and he didn’t. Now we burn through another lefty – who can only get lefties out. And if the game goes to extra innings. . . . .

  478. metmania says:

So much for all you dopes that were loving Ugla…still think hes the mets hero?

  479. the Straw says:

again i will remind all of you 15 of their last 19. and we are still not trailing in this game….take it easy ppl.

  480. SovereignRonnie says:

I may get killed for this… but Smith gave up a lazy fly ball that found the ground and a weak ground ball up the middle.

    • reyesnwright says:

I agree…the fly ball wasn’t all that well hit and the grounder took about 20 bounces before it reached the outfield…sometimes stuff like that happens.

  481. wright2reyes says:

in all honesty, tatis should have caught that

  482. reyesnwright says:

I hate to bring this up, but who do we use if this game goes to extra innings?

  483. fsolomon75 says:

To be fair, Manuel didn’t expect Maine to not even make it out of the 5th… but yeah this sucks.

  484. Wright88 says:

    Curse you Dan Uggla

  485. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

That was a really great throw by Beltran. Man, it would’ve been great to get Uggla there.

  486. 911nafstem says:

    ughhh, another soft hit

  487. VelvetFoot says:

    double argh

  488. metmania says:

left handed hitters have the lowest batting avg. against sho then any other pitcher, and were considering trading him? that would be a hughe mistake

  489. Wright88 says:

    btw…this stadium is freaking huge

  490. khmustache says:

    crap

  491. EV says:

This all goes back to Minaya and his TERRIBLE job of building this farm system. The spanks go out and get a outfield bat and an arm for the pen, and still have a lot of prospects. While we can’t do squat.

    • Wright88 says:

The Yanks gave up nothing. They gave up crap prospects, yet somehow they got Nady and Marte..it has nothing to do with our farm system

  492. gipper82475 says:

This BP is garbage…it’s like 2nd half of 07 all over again with this pen.

  493. MetsFan1989 says:

WHy dont we need bullpen help 3 of our pitchers r situtional and right now. we dont have a consisitent set up man. BULL PEN help!!!!!!!

  494. Nate W. says:

In his last 5 outings Joe Smith has two blown saves and one loss, and nearly on the hook for a second loss.

On the plus side, Dauner Sanchez did manage to get anyone out tonight, so thats a start for him.

  495. khmustache says:

    double crap

  496. 911nafstem says:

you can always count on Schoe to throw gasoline on the fire

  497. metmania says:

    MELT DOWN MELT DOWN

  498. fsolomon75 says:

Say whatever you want about the pen, but this one is on the offense for going to sleep after the 2nd.

    • EV says:

Are you watching the same game I am. The bullpen blew this game not the offense. The pen had a one run lead going into this inning.

  499. bigvito22 says:

Terrible, terrible bullpen. Ollie needs to go 8 tomorrow

  500. bringbackolerud5 says:

GET ON THE PHONE OMAR AND GET SOME HELP YOU PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!!

YOU KNOW WHAT I SAYIN, OMAR?

  501. gipper82475 says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Garbage. This team is toast if they can’t fix this pen.

  502. therealsince86 says:

We need bullpen help for sure.
I can’t stand the Marlins announcers.

  503. metsforever says:

This is a prime example of needing a real relief pitcher. You can’t live with 6 situational guys and 1 closer. At this rate the Mets need 12 relievers. If a starter cant’ go 7, they are dead. Muniz stinks and the other guys can’t go every night, they proved that last year.

    Omar, get on the horn.

    • SovereignRonnie says:

We don’t have any relievers who are strikeout pitchers. All our guys are pitch-to-contact types, and when you pitch to contact, you get a lot of bloops, bleeders, duck snorts, etc.

  504. EV says:

Joe Smith and Muniz ship there buts back to the minors.

  505. LIMetfan74 says:

    Can they get anybody out????????

Glad they had a day off yesterday!!!

    A-holes!

  506. Wright88 says:

Anyone think Omar is on the phone right now with Beane asking about Street?

  507. skylog says:

not a hard hit in the bunch, unreal

  508. hi5wright says:

Ollie, please give us length tomorrow. I just cant look at our bullpen right now.
    Arghh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  509. Why are these outfielders so deep.

  510. Nate W. says:

The sad thing is the Mets actually have one of the better pens in the game. Bullpens all over are just as terrible night in and night out. Bring back the amphetamines. :S

  511. khmustache says:

    triple crap

  512. metmania says:

good thing santana piched nine innigs to give these bums some rest…i hate to see what they would do without rest…losers

  513. ASod1975 says:

“I love it when the crowd chants, Cody, Cody.” These Marlins announcers are such losers. In other news, this bullpen licks major sack.

  514. teufelshuffle86 says:

    how bout an OUT here?

  515. metsfan42793 says:

how can people honestly say the mets need a corner outfield at the moment. the bullpen is just horrible.

  516. MetsFan1989 says:

that 06 magic in this season is gone.

    • almar1965 says:

Oh get a grip! They just took 4 of 6 against two good teams and you wet your panties because they are losing against the Marlins?

  517. dave27 says:

No need to worry about the Marlins, right?

    I predict an 8-3 final.

  518. c.1970 says:

Why is Keith saying “What a ballgame”? To me, it’s been a mismanaged curiosity—or tragedy. And Maine’s injury doesn’t amuse.

  519. wright2reyes says:

wow……this is so reminiscnat of the philli game

  520. WrightsRight says:

Do we have bullpen?? Do we? Just when they start to get their crap together….just horrible, losing to these rob deer wannabees.

  521. dwright012 says:

And here we go… 3rd place by Wed.. but yeah we don’t need Many or Bay..

Give me a break… this is a 3 team horse race and we need real players.. not bench players

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

In all fairness to the pen, every ball hit in this inning has been a ‘bloop’ or a ‘dinker.’

  522. 911nafstem says:

I still like our pen despite this game

  523. Wright88 says:

    Everyone quickly abandon ship!

  524. Darth Manuel says:

    please

  525. teufelshuffle86 says:

these marlins announcers are terrible. Can’t stand guys that actually root for their team during the game.

  526. Koko says:

Too many situational pitchers. Way too many. We need guys that can get guys out from both sides of the plate. We have 1.5 of those (Wagner and Sanchez) everyone else is a one-sided pitcher. That is just horrible.

  527. skylog says:

man, no bullpen help? they can’t get an out. perhaps using one pitcher per batter is not the best idea?

great start to this series. getting blooped and bunted to death. a game wasted.

  528. bringbackolerud5 says:

maybe if I speak in words Omar’s uneducated ass would understand, he will get the message……….

“Omar, we need pen help. You know what I sayin?”

  529. fsolomon75 says:

No one’s hit the ball hard but they still can’t get anybody out.

  530. 911nafstem says:

The Marlins got a ton of bloops this inning, it happens, let’s not all panic

  531. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Sigh……

  532. almar1965 says:

Forget getting another outfielder. The Mets need a dependable bullpen arm.

    • Wright88 says:

As if those are easy to find, even the top two guys on the market aren’t all that dependable.

  533. MetsFan1989 says:

honestly this game should be 4-0 marlins. the mets offense did nothing this game.

  534. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

OK, kids, calm down. This sucks, but it ain’t over yet.

    • dwright012 says:

      Now it’s over

      Crap taculor…

Omar better get busy this team ain’t good enough the way it is

  535. 911nafstem says:

I’d love to see Heilman in here

  536. Nate W. says:

    gotta hold it here… please!

The Mets will rally and Wagner will hold it.

    Get a couple outs, now!

  537. mookie says:

Like I’ve said many times. we need an reliever more than OF. I would trade niese and a couple of prospects for a great reliever. We get a great reliever we win the world series. nuff said.

    • Wright88 says:

There are no great relievers though, Street and Fuentes are pretty good but it snot like either are shutdown guys.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

is neise even nething more than a no.3 starter. y he is so GODLY on our prospects.

  538. hi5wright says:

If the score stays the way it is(miracles do happen) unless the mets get the go-ahead run in the 9th i dont want to the mets to score (tie) because this bullpen needs TWO days off for some reason. They look atrocious.

  539. 911nafstem says:

    nice

  540. bigvito22 says:

Big K there Show!!! Come on, one more…keep us in it!!!

  541. khmustache says:

    K!!!

  542. j_k says:

This isn’t football, and we aren’t the Patriots. I know it’s hard for everyone to accept that we won’t go 162-0, but these sorts of things happen. Was our offense not good enough in the last series?

If we lose, it’s OK. Honestly, the average age of the posters on this blog is 13. Either that or everyone is PMSing all the time.

    • gipper82475 says:

Geez, don’t you know the difference between an in-game thread (where people are bound to live an die with each pitch) and a thread dealing with the bigger picture?

Big picture, things are okay, with a few concerns. This game is upsetting.

      See the difference?

      Geez.

  543. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Heh. All of a sudden, Schoe looks like he’s settled down.

  544. MetsFanInVegas says:

We barely have anybody to trade but if I’m Omar Minaya watching this game I see three problems that could hurt this team any given game…

    1) We need bullpen help.

    2) I know Tatis has been good offensively but we have an infielder in the outfield.

    3) If Maine is hurt what happens with his spot in the rotation?

    • Nate W. says:

      1) so doesnt everyone
      2) He’s no worse out there than many of the potential replacements, and we know he’s hot at the plate.
      3) they can skip him because they have Thursday and next Monday off.

      • MetsFanInVegas says:

Teams that win the WS have a good, reliable bullpen. They need to get another relief pitcher.

  545. metsforever says:

How bout this one for fun:

    Boston gets Show, Matt Holiday

colorado gets Bucholz, Niese, Carp/Murphy, other Sox prospect

    Mets get Manny, Fuentes

I know it won’t happen, but not totally unfair

    • SovereignRonnie says:

If we could get Manny and Fuentes for Show, Niese and either Carp or Murphy, I would soil myself.

      Not happening.

    • dave27 says:

This isn’t the NBA. 3-way deals virtualy never happen.

  546. Church4prez says:

    FIRE JERRY!!!!!!!!!!

  547. bigvito22 says:

Luck just isn’t on our side tonight…

  548. dave27 says:

Priceless. This team has to lead all of MLB in wild pitches, passed balls, and hit batsmen.

  549. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    That was really uggla, Shrek.

  550. 911nafstem says:

can someone please teach the Mets catchers how to block balls. That’s 2 runs that it has cost them

  551. Wright88 says:

    omg..fundamentals…BLOCK THE BALL

  552. VegasMet says:

Welcome to the weekly installment of ” Mets bullpen surrenders a 6-run final at-bat for the opposition”.

Oh well, get it out of the way early in the week, I guess…

  553. WrightsRight says:

Jeez, do any of our catchers know how to catch??? Our “defensive” catcher Schneider must lead the universe in passed balls and now this. Dreadful.

    • metsguppy says:

You can’t blame the catchers when the pitchers are trying to throw hail maries to the back stop. Schneider had been playing goalie all game trying to save those horrible tosses from the various pitchers. The bullpen is a freaking joke.

    • dwright012 says:

BUT HE CALLS A GREAT GAME!

  554. Church4prez says:

    GNITE PEACE

  555. dave27 says:

That pitch was fatter than Joe Blanton.

  556. VelvetFoot says:

    Can’t trust bullpen. Bye.

  557. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Just cannot believe this…..
We couldn’t buy an out in this inning.

  558. skylog says:

there goes just about any chance. well, until that hit. bullpen IMPLODES

  559. metsguppy says:

This Mets bullpen has been pretty much garbage over the last couple seasons. They are the worst bullpen in the NL EAST if not the entire National League. No other bullpen so consistantly blows leads and has every pitcher try to throw the ball to the back stop. This is Manuel’s night to be Willie. If this is how he likes to play I can’t wait until they dump him too!

    • Wright88 says:

I don’t think they’re ranked that bad. Obviously they’ve been bad since the All star break but if you check their numbers vs other teams, The Mets pen isn’t that bad.

      • metsguppy says:

Omar didn’t do ONE thing to improve the bullpen in the offseason and they are proving to be just as horrible as they were last year. The Mets NEED at least one reliever that can actually get 3 outs without giving up 5 runs. The bullpen is trying to lose the lead over the Marlins and the Phillies. The Marlins are out pitching the Mets tonight, what a joke.

        • almar1965 says:

It’s one game of a 3 game series. So the Mets take 2 of 3 and push the Marlins back 3 games.

Will you change your depends undergarment at that point?

    • almar1965 says:

Actually there are worst bullpens in the league, your just to ignorant to look it up.

One game and you are peeing your shorts? They just took 4 of 6 from two good teams. Relax. Let me guess. You reacted the same way when they blew the first game vs. the Phillies. Riiiiiiight?

  560. MetsFan1989 says:

*clap CLap Clap Clap* ibanez can pitch guys. dont worry thats y we want him more than dunn or bay.

  561. teufelshuffle86 says:

    ball game.

  562. bigvito22 says:

    Good job Bloweneweis

  563. LIMetfan74 says:

    Its over Johnny!!

  564. hi5wright says:

You had an 0-2 pitch Schoenweis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    marlin fans are &@#$^(.

  565. the Straw says:

    Jeez these announcers are scumb@gs.

  566. therealsince86 says:

Hey lookie lookie the Mets fans are going home.
Boy what a bunch of front running announcers. I can’t stand it anymore.

  567. almar1965 says:

Why is Show still in there? Because Jerry tends to use relievers like they are going out of style and he doesn’t want to use Heilman after 3 innings Saturday.

    • Nate W. says:

eh, he threw 28 pitches. Which is more than desirable, but he seemed to be getting it together before completely unraveling.

He probably wont pitch tomorrow with Feliciano and Collazo well rested.

  568. Nate W. says:

so who gets the L tonight, Schneider or Castro?

    • mrosey says:

      Manuel

    • metmania says:

they should both have to wear a L on there jersey for loser and also give show and smith and sanchez one….instead of C’s lets start giving out L’s….it will hopefully inspire them not to suck

  569. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Time to bring in Robinson “Refrigerator” Cancel.

    • SovereignRonnie says:

“The Fridge!” I love it! We’re far enough removed from an ‘85 football team to reuse that nickname, right?

  570. Stems says:

    FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    seriously … waht a letdown…

  571. EV says:

I tell you when this team loses, it loses ugly. This bullpen SUCKS!!!!!

  572. mrosey says:

To me, there is no doubt this is the worst loss of the season. The Marlins did everything they could to lose and the bullpen couldn’t shut to door. This is AAA baseball right here complete with defensive mistakes and poor hitting. Nolasco pitched well but 3 runs on 8 hits (and it shouldnt even be three runs) against Florida is really pityful.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Far from the worst loss of the year. You were probably the same guy ready to jump off a bridge after last Tuesday’s game in Philly. Relax. They aren’t going to go undefeated the rest of the way.

  573. skylog says:

that is it, these announcers are the worst. how can they be on tv? there is the stat for you, marlins are getting it done with RISP.

  574. metmania says:

i hate the marlins and there loser fans ….. can our bullpen suck anymore….is it really possible…good thing santana got them rest yesterday….and where the hell is el sucko….what a waste….they really should tell him that they dont care about him anymore….if they spend i one cent on rehab for him its a waste of money….seriously just send him home and have him stop wasting everyones time

  575. LIMetfan74 says:

They better win the next two!!

    • therealsince86 says:

Or what? You can’t lose a series to a good team on the road or your season’s over.

      • metmania says:

not to a team that is about to overtake you for first place…different story if its the redsocks or the angles….you should show some kind of urgency to fend off a divsional rival

  576. teufelshuffle86 says:

God these Marlins announcers are horrible. He just called the Met fans frontrunners. because they are leaving the stadium down 4 runs in the 8th Has he been to a Marlins game when they are 13 games out of first place? Please. Of all people to point out front runners.

    • m00kie says:

had to mute those idiots long ago .. seriously , silence is 100X better than those two idiots.

  577. Wright88 says:

Ok, the Marlins pen is the worst in the NL. Lets beat up on their closer.

  578. playmaker3128 says:

I know its pretty obvious, but i think we really need an 8th inning guy. Idk what it would take but a guy like street would make a nice 8th inning guy, but it might cost to much. Maybe even bring up kunz who’s been pitching better lately.

Well looks like the NL east is gonna get a little tighter after tonight. Nobody said it was gonna be easy.

  579. AzMetsFan says:

This game wasn’t meant to be and our offense was anemic anyways. It took a bunch of misplays to score. Lets hope we wake up and take the next two games for the series win.

  580. The Slider says:

Thanks Jerry for screwing up this game you #&)!*@#^$*#(@#&^%.

  581. WrightsRight says:

Unless this team has an 11 run lead (unless its vs. the Phillies) I have zero faith in this bullpen. It’s one thing to give up a run or two, but this team gives up 4+ runs on a regular basis it seems. They need guys who throw gas and put the fear of god in the opponent. They lack those pitchers. What a waste of a game.

As I’ve said, the whole pen should be sent to the DL for necks for hanging their heads in utter shame on a regular basis.

  582. the Straw says:

Guess what this team lost even uglier last tuesday vs the phils…then what….they won 4 out of their next 5.

These games are going to happen. But let the mets come back and win the next two, and all will be forgiven again.

Remember everyone, this season is a marathon-not a sprint.

  583. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

Gary Cohen before the game: “the marlins suck, cant field cant pitch blah blah blah”

Fans on this blog “we can take the marlins the marlins not that good blah bla we’re world beaters blah blah

    LMAO

alot of good that 10 game winning streak does you now Mutts fans only 1 game ahead in the NL east soon to be 1/2 game and come Thursday about 1 game behind the PHils

    Choke much Mutts?

    • Wright88 says:

Not as much as the Phils..how does 2nd place feel?

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

You realize you’re debating with a child.

Philly Fan = 13 years old.
No reading comprehension, can’t spell, no writing skills.
And if he is any older than 13, then everything they say about the Philadelphia school system is true…

    • m00kie says:

      are you lost?

    • LIMetfan74 says:

Wait to you guyd get swept by them next series!

That awsome pitching staff you have

    • EV says:

Shut up Loser. How many times have we kicked the crap out of the Phillies this year, what 8 or 9 times, I lost track.

      • Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

7 game lead with 17 left to play the only leads that count…

        All I have to say….

        NL East Champ Phils

        • skylog says:

live it up…all the glory of waiting a decade and a half to even see the post season….then getting swept. in fact other than than fancy banner all you did was end up with more losses than the mets

    • The Slider says:

Go home to your mommy. Or do we have to beat the pi$$ out of you guys again?

    • mrose says:

dude, you are a pathetic person. You do realize the Phils were 7.5 games up on the Mets right? You shouldn’t have much confidence either, and NEWS FLASH you lost 2 of 3 to the marlins LAST WEEKEND.

You are probably the biggest loser in all of NYC, its a shame you live in such a great city.

    • skylog says:

i was in the mood for a laugh.

you know what a 10 game streak is good for? mets, first place. phillies, not in first place.

wow, you watch mets games, you post on mets blogs…do you devote any time to your supposed team?

    • Nate W. says:

Its ok, Mets will get it back against the Phils. That team just cant compete with the Mets in a 3 game series.

    • kingman 26 says:

My friend, all you need is long yellow shoes and a bright red fake nose to complete the clown persona.

Your team has one title in about 125 years. Your team has more losses, the vilest fans, and the worst record of any team in US sports history.

From 1883–1975 your team made the postseason TWICE IN 93 YEARS!!

Phaillies fans should be humble and quiet.

Or make complete asses of themselves on other, FAR MORE successful teams’ blogs.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

What a pathetic troll. Funny that you named your parents’ basement in Pottsville “Wall Street.”

    • KL15 says:

Hey son. In the long and illustrious history of the Philadelphia Phillies you have one, count them, one world title. And before you come back with this “well the Mutts only have 2″ consider the Phillies have been a franchise since 1883. The New York Mets have been a franchise since 1962. It’s great that you’re a Phillies fan, now go to one of their blogs and rave all day about Burrell, Howard, Rollins, Utley, and the rest of the team. This is a blog for Mets fans. We love our team as much as you love yours. Have a good life and bye now.

    • grmetsfan says:

Philly fan, how come you weren’t here after Santana’s CG? Is your life that pathetic that you have to watch the mets game and talk smack on Metsblog?

Fact, we own you this year. 4 straight series, so clearly head to head we are the better team. What’s your excuse for that? Let’s see how your starters do against the nats. It wouldn’t surprise me if the phils drop two of 3 you’ll see.

  584. LIMetfan74 says:

I still dont think the Marlins are for real.

  585. bigvito22 says:

Well, if you need to take a positive from this game…tomorrow just got a LOT more important…which usually means Perez thrives

  586. EV says:

I really can’t stand Minaya, I still want him FIRED!!!

  587. NickA33 says:

I changed the channel right after that hit that scored two. What did the Marlins announcers say? I missed it…

  588. MetsFan4Decades says:

Damn….I know we’re not gonna win every game but it sure would be fun.

    We’ll still take the series.

  589. bringbackolerud5 says:

GOOD TEAMS DO NOT HAVE GAMES LIKE THIS TWICE IN A 7 DAY STRETCH…….,

THE MARLINS AND PHILS ARE 10 TIMES MORE GUTSY THAN THE METS AND ITS A FACT

  590. Koko says:

Yup the bullpen is just fine. . . .

    • fongulalou says:

hey, theyre in miami so, say hell to our little pen.
musta heard 20 times during updates on wfan today
nolasco’s been terrible since the allstar break.
      kiss of death!—Omar,please send help!

  591. therealsince86 says:

This is still on the pen, not on Jerry.
Muniz did what Maine most likely would have done, got us through 6 with 2 runs. It was the 8th inning that killed us and that would have happen either way. No body could get an out.

  592. kd bart says:

    WORSE LOSS EVER!!!

    SEASON’S OVER!!!!

    FIRE OMAR!!!!!!

    FIRE JERRY!!!!!

    TRADE _________!!!!!!!

    RELEASE ________!!!!!!!!!

Have I covered all the basic reactions to every loss.

Maine having to be taken out for precautionary reasons and obviously not having Heilman available hurt them tonight.

  593. Darth Manuel says:

get this guy off the team.. .what a joke Anderson has become.. an absolute joke. worthless

  594. dave27 says:

It’s getting really hard to keep defending Marlon Anderson.

  595. WrightsRight says:

When…when are we ending the Marlon Andersen experiment?? Seriously, he has been AWFUL. As close to an automatic out as you can get, plus it looks like he doesn’t even give a crap with his approach, etc. On top of that, he’s a useless fielder. He gave us some nice moments last year but it’s time for him to go.

  596. The Slider says:

Well, I can’t wait to hear Manuel on the post-game show.

    • therealsince86 says:

Yeh, he might say something like Maine was injured and the pen blew it in the 8th.

  597. WrightsRight says:

Smith, Show, Schneider…hang your heads in shame. And then get your acts together and come back to tomorrow.

  598. metmania says:

seriously why is anderson still on this team…after this series they should just leave him in flordia….who cares what happens to him or where he goes or if he even makes it home

    • The Slider says:

Who would be our left-handed bat off the bench then? Manuel is trying to get his bat going. Who knows anymore.

      • metmania says:

a right handed middle schooler, he will probably do just about the same

      • Two-By-Four says:

The Dodgers were in the same position with him last year and eventually released him. He came to the Mets and started to hit. He’s repeating that scenario this year but in a Mets uniform.

    • fongulalou says:

yeah, sanchez should find his favorite local cabbie
and have him give marlon a ride somewhere, anywhere.

      • metmania says:

how about into a river or to the nearst minor league ball park( preferably to single A)

    • MetsFan1989 says:

and wasnt marlon like willies boy freind or something? manuel should just say “ur fired”

  599. Darth Manuel says:

Omar you have 3 days to figure something out.. We need bullpen help now

  600. teufelshuffle86 says:

Welp, go get ‘em tomorrow. Can;t win every night. Get over it and move on. Not the end of the world.

    • skylog says:

agreed. still hate to give all these games away, oh well, i guess it makes it more interesting

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      Here, Here.

Still say we’ll take the series.

      • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I think so too, but there is definitely something in the bullpen that’s not working — for several games now — and we do need to figure out what that is and fix it.

  601. the Straw says:

There is no excuse for this team only winning 15 of their last 20 games…they really should have won all 20 if not 21. Break up the team now. The season is over…cant even do better than a .750 winning %.

    • Two-By-Four says:

[sarcasm]They’ve won 15 out of 20. By golly give everyone a major raise and a long term contract.

Is that their winning percentage for the year or over a hot streak?[sarcasm]

The fact is if you have followed this team all along and not just during a hot streak you would realize that the bullpen has been inconsistent. If you’re in a pennant race you can’t bring in guys and cross your fingers. The bullpen has to be a source of strength and Omar realizes it because he has been seeking help. You can’t mortgage the farm for relief help but if you can upgrade the bullpen at reasonable cost in talent you have to address it.

  602. bringbackolerud5 says:

ISN’T IT ABOUT THAT TIME OF YEAR FOR OMAR TO GO FIND ROBERTO HERNANDEZ?????

  603. The Slider says:

    I’m depressed.

  604. m00kie says:

what a waste of an evening .. john maine is the story here. Maybe Heilman is getting ready for his spot? I know his last start was good, but he keeps getting little worrisome injuries, I think he’s due for 2 weeks off.

    • The Slider says:

I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with Maine. This was just Manuel pulling one of his little stunts – like he did with Jose. I guarantee you Maine goes his next start.

      • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I didn’t get home until the 6th inning. What sort of stunt are you saying Manuel pulled, and why would he have done this?

      • kingman 26 says:

You realize that Jerry is an older guy who, with every game, is fighting for what may be his last chance for a lasting managerial job?

Why in the world would he take Maine out for no reason halfway through the game to let the back end of the bullpen give it away?

And I ask again, who are the managers you like?

But I doubt you will have an answer or anything constructive to suggest.

      • Two-By-Four says:

Manuel does play mind games with some of these players and at times you have to.

    • fongulalou says:

c’mon mook, heilmann cant get thru TWO innings.

  605. The Slider says:

    I hear Mota is available.

  606. toomanyuniforms says:

Never before have I wanted so badly to reach into my television set and throttle the life out of a baseball announcer. The Marlins announcers are an offense to human decency. They should be doing Division II games on AM radio, if that. Horrible.

Oh yeah — the game sucked, too. Mets looked kind of . . . blahhhhhh. Some sort of hangover from yesterday’s win, coupled with some bad vibes surrounding Maine’s injury, I think.

  607. mrosey says:

I got a question for the Metsblog community and I’m curious to hear what you guys think because my mind is made up. I’ve disapproved of the job Jerry’s done since he took the reins and now I feel this is just one reason why he is doing a poor job.

Why is the Mets damage control so poor? The last three Mets losses have all been a result of allowing the opponent to just have huge innings. 5 runs tonight in the 8th. 4 in the 1st and 6th against St. Louis and 6 in the 9th in that horrific game versus the Philthies. The bullpen pitching itself was not good in those instances but its Jerrys job to figure out a way to stop the bleeding and he’s doing a poor job of it unless I’m missing something here that clears him of the blame?

Anybody. One more thing, I’m starting to hate Keith.

    • the Straw says:

so what your saying is its jerry fault that the mets have only won 15 out of 20 instead of 20 out of 20

      • almar1965 says:

I really think the collective IQ of Mets fans on this blog dips about 60 points after every loss.

        Seriously.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

What do u mean!?!?!?! There always stupid!

Marlen SUCKS!!! FIRE EFFIN’ JERRY NOW!! GET IBANNEZ!!!!

I can feel the basic problem solving and analytical skills seeping away as I contemplate how much Cody Ross looks like the love child of a gila monster and a volleyball.

      • The Slider says:

No, the players won those games. And players loss most games too. Just like with Willie.

But Manuel blew this game. And he blew the two Santana starts against the Phillies in the last two series with them. And he blew tonight’s game.

        • therealsince86 says:

Explain how he blew tonights game. It looked like to me the pens 8th inning blew this one.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Manuel’s Achilles with the White Sox was a tendency to (COUGH) overmanage. They called him “the tinkerer” — could never leave well enough alone.

You cannot really criticize the results Jerry has presided over thus far, but his tenure is young. It’s worth watching.

    • The Slider says:

I’m not sold on Manuel at all. His handling of Santana his last three starts said it all to me. And now Maine. Give me a break. Maine better have something seriously wrong with his pitching arm. If he’s good to go the next start, then Jerry ought to be taken out behind the shed.

      • the Straw says:

or maybe jerry was being cautious with his 25 yr old pitcher because its still july and doesnt want to risk a seson endind injury…how dare he.

        • kd bart says:

Better to side on the side of precaution than risk losing him for a month by aggravating it further.

        • The Slider says:

Santana? Please. He took him out both games when he was cruising on a low pitch count.

Look up your baseball history under the names: Jim Palmer, Nolan Ryan, Steve Carlton, Tom Seaver and see how many innings a year they ate up. (Hint: around 300 innings/year.)

        • The Slider says:

Kd, aggravate what? Maine was fine.

        • teufelshuffle86 says:

So we’re now comparing pitchers of this generation who rarely throw CG’s anymore to guys who played in the 70’s? Good comparison.

Oh, and 105 pitches isn’t a low pitch count. I don’t think the expectation of Sanchez to get 3 outs with a three run lead was that unreasonable.

        • Two-By-Four says:

The results speak for themselves. So far Manuel has done a fine job in a difficult situation. Anyone researching Santana’s history would know that he very rarely closes games. That is a thing of the past. That’s why I believe starters were more important in the past while the bullpen is of primary importance in today’s game. As an example in 1972 Steve Carlton won 27 games with a team that won 59 games total. He started 41 games and completed 30 of them. You will never see that again.

      • therealsince86 says:

Because it was clear that he would not have given up a run in 1 and 2/3 innings.

      • teufelshuffle86 says:

So if Maine ‘feels fine’ then two pitches later blows out his arm, that would be the right decision? There was no point in risking it. I’ll take a loss in favor of losing Maine for the rest of the year. If this situation happened on September 28th I might agree with you.

    • therealsince86 says:

Disapprove of Jerry’s job? Have you seen their record. As much as you want to admit it, managers are judged by wins and loses. You can say the players bail him out in wins and they lose because of him if you want but wins and losses are the only thing that counts.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Apparently you missed the Mets winning 4 of 5 after the Phillies loss. I’d consider that ’stopping the bleeding.’

Even in their losses the Mets have been in every game going back to late June. Except for the big innings you mentioned they’ve had a chance, which is all you can ask for. Willie rarely seemed to put this team in position with a chance to win. Willie also didn’t do a good job of stopping the bleeding after a loss as the Mets would go on to lose 3 of 4, 5 of 6, etc.

    • kd bart says:

It’s a shame that this team can’t win every game 11-0 on a 2 hit shutout. That’s the only way someof you will be happy.

  608. Darth Manuel says:

down the stretch in close games is going to be an nightmare with this bullpen.. These guys aren’t tough.. Other than heilman and wags no one can throw the ball faster than 89.. Thats a problem.. If other teams are disciplined and can got the other way,, we are done with.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Bullpens are going to have bad games. This was a bad game. It happens.

      • skylog says:

i agree with you, but for the whole bullpen more or less, to have nothing so soon after the last implosion is not a good thing.

  609. metmania says:

and you know what im tired of john maine coming out of games early…im not blaming jerry im blaming maine….his pitch counts are so high every inning….hes always saying oh i need to improve and start pitching deeper into games….well then just do it and stop talking about it…and these lame injuries (arm cramping in the non throwing hand?)(sholder tightness?)……christ at what age do we all learn that we need to stretch before doing anything active…especially a proffesional baseball player….grow up maine, and take some notes from pelfrey (who would have thought i would have said that at the beginging of the season)

  610. kd bart says:

I swear this team has won 15 of their last 20 not 5 of their last 20 and haven’t lost a series all month.

    • almar1965 says:

      15 of 20? That’s it?!?!!!!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!! THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!

      …sarcasm…

      • SuicideWatch says:

What is this talk about winning 15 of 20???? This team was 2 games under .500, then won 10 straight and are now 5-5 since those 10 straight. Sure a small sample like 15 of 20 is great, but outside of that 10 game winning streak this team is 2 games under .500.

        • almar1965 says:

“Sure a small sample like 15 of 20 is great, but outside of that 10 game winning streak this team is 2 games under .500.”

          What is this, new math?

You claim that 15 of 20 (25 games total) is ” a small sample” yet you are clinging to your weak argument by using a 10 game sample?

Did you fall a lot as a child?

        • almar1965 says:

“You claim that 15 of 20 (25 games total)”

I meant to say 20 games total.

        • SuicideWatch says:

WOW, you are a complete idiot.

The team is 57-49 (8 games over .500) take out the 10 games winning streak and they are 47-49 (2 games under .500)

          What so hard to understand??

        • almar1965 says:

Well gee, you can play that subtraction game to suit your argument. Fact of the matter is you CAN’T TAKE OUT THE 10 GAME WINNING STREAK or how they have been playing since Jerry took over.

That’s like saying take out the last two weeks in September and the Mets win the division.

          Geez!!!!!!!!

        • SuicideWatch says:

It simply goes to my point that they are a .500 team.

          LARGE SAMPLE 47-49

          SMALL SAMPLE 10-0

          SMALL SAMPLE 5-5

What seems to more likely represent the Mets overall performance??? The first 96 games or a tiny little 10 game sample???

        • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Um… how about… the entire season?

          You know, just a thought.

    • hi5wright says:

AND we have Ollie (he’s been Good Ollie all month) and Big Pelf for the next 2 games. Believe.
      Go Mets.

  611. SuicideWatch says:

The Mets are now 5-5 since the 10 game winning streak.

    Just a .500 team.

    • The Slider says:

      Perspective.

    • the Straw says:

yeah things were much better when they were 3 games under .500 for the year. bring back willie.

      • skylog says:

he did not say anything about willie, just that while the mets did win 10 games in a row, as of late, over the past 10 games….they more or less have been the same team they have over the past one and a half seasons.

seems like a very valid point to me

        • SuicideWatch says:

Thank you, that’s exactly what I meant.

        • The Slider says:

Some people’s hate for Willie prevents one from talking sense about baseball. It’s all about the collapse. Manuel hasn’t done squat since becoming Mets Mgr. He’s done the same things that Willie did – which makes sense since he was Willie’s bench coach.

        • kingman 26 says:

No, not valid at all. Sure they lost Saturday, but came back from 4 and 3 run leads. The OPPOSITE of what we watched for the first 3 months of this year.

And after the loss in game 1 to the Phils, lots of clowns were on here bellowing about how we would get swept, and what happened?

And we–in all likelihood–lost tonight due to Jerry’s extremely wise caution with a valuable young arm, as our bullpen depth is our achilles heel, especially the rancid Schoeneweis, who acts as though he will be shot if he strands an inherited runner.

We have lots more fight, and infinitely better starting pitching lately.

        • almar1965 says:

Well if you want to play that stupid game, okay, I will bite.

What is their record since Jerry took over?

          25-14.

        • SuicideWatch says:

You definitely did too much drugs during the 60’s

        • skylog says:

well, we disagree, because based on the numbers the point is quite valid. that said, the team does have a different “look” and “feel,” so i can agree you expanding the discussion and taking it there, but until they put up the wins…..that look and feel does not get it done.

the only reason i even think this is an issue is that perhaps, perhaps, since the move, maybe the “shine” has worn off the move and they team is going to play what the team appeared to be for so long….500, which is why i further think the point is valid.

        • skylog says:

man, i am tired. i can’t type, my bad.

    • skylog says:

there is the point all the 15-5 people will refuse to admit

      • kd bart says:

But they’ve won 5 of their last 8. .625 ball.

        • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

          0 of the last 1. .000 ball!

          OMG! WE SUCK! TRADE EVERYONE!

        • skylog says:

well, i suppose we can play this game all nite

        • toomanyuniforms says:

They won series from the Phils and Cards. There is nothing wrong with that. .500 on the road and .667 at home is just fine, thanks. That’s how solid teams perform. And the sample is itty bitty.

        • almar1965 says:

Don’t let facts and logic get in the way of their inane ravings.

        • kd bart says:

It would just be easier if they won every game like they should.

        • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Obviously Jerry didn’t get that memo. We need to send it again.

          To: Jerry Manuel
          From: Mets Fans
          Subject: Record

Hey, Jerry, do us a solid and just win all the games from here on out, OK? And while you’re at it, could you just make them all blow-out games? Because we’re worried about our blood pressure and stuff.

Thanks a lot, Jerry. You’re the best.

          Your pals,
          The Fans

        • skylog says:

          toomany…..

i agree, but when they lose, i need to think about the worst so i am more happy when then they win again. hopefully, they will just win the next two.

          kd bart……

          agreed.

        • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I guess my point is that, for the most part, when we have lost games recently, we have lost them in nine innings. We used to lose them in about 5, and just sleepwalk through the last half of the game.

We were pretty sloppy tonight, there’s no denying that. But one game does not constitute a trend. And, even with our sloppiness, we didnt’ give up. We just played badly and lost.

There is a bit of a worrisome trend in the making with the bullpen, but there’s still time to address it. Let’s give the coaches a chance to do that.

  612. KL15 says:

Everyone this bullpen has got to sack up and get it done. I’ve seen times where many of the relief pitchers have been great. I’m not sure what the problem is here, maybe Warthen needs to take some of these guys out behind the shed. But I got verbally killed for saying great teams find ways to win these types of games on Saturday. Maybe I deserved that, and yes the offense needs to score more runs. But you can’t count on the offense all the time and this bullpen has got to sack up.

  613. SuicideWatch says:

What is this talk about winning 15 of 20?? This team was 2 games under .500, then won 10 straight and are now 5-5 since those 10 straight. Sure a small sample like 15 of 20 is great, but outside of that 10 game winning streak this team is 2 games under .500.

    • KL15 says:

You’re name says it all. It’s not the end of the world, it’s a baseball game. I agree that the team cannot live in the past and some of this 15 out of 20 stuff worries me to that end. But it’s not the end of the world, there are two more games left and this is a tough division at the top. The New York Mets may not hang on to the lead for the rest of the season. Hopefully if they lose it they can get it back. But this is the way it’s going to be for the rest of the year. If you can’t stomach it, and I’m not blaming you if you can’t, then come back next year and we can all try it again. If you can, then be prepared for the worst, hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.

      • KL15 says:

First word should be Your not You’re. Don’t know what I was thinking, guess I’ve had too much to drink.

I think the problem here is that a lot of people are unrealistic. This team is not going to run away with the division like 2006. If the Mets win this division in 2008, it will come down to the last few weeks.

That being said, the Marlins are no joke.

      • SuicideWatch says:

Listen my only point is that this team is still searching for some consistency. I know they’re not going to win every game, but it would be nice to string more than 3 wins together to back up that 10 spot. But they haven’t and since the 10 GWS they are only 5-5. 5-5 is nothing to get excited about. Plus they are 4-2 at home making them an ugly 1-3 on the road.

        • almar1965 says:

          Um, actually they are 6-5.

        • skylog says:

and i hope they get to that .500 on the road. 4 under as we speak. the home record is great.

        • SuicideWatch says:

almar, boy you need some math lessons.

The last win of the 10 game winning streak was the first game in Cincy…therefore SINCE THE 10 GAME WINNING STREAK the team is 5-5

          1-2 vs. Cincy
          2-1 vs. Philly
          2-1 vs the Cards
          0-1 vs the Marlins

Last I checked that equals 5-5.

They are 6-5 since the All-Star Break.

        • almar1965 says:

Excuse me, I looked at the All-Star break inadvertenty as the end of the 10 game winning streak. My bad.

But once again, you are using cherry-picked math to suit your argument.

5-5 since the 10 game winning streak, but I can say 25-14 since Jerry took over.

Or if I want to play this game forever, the Mets are 242-188 since the last game of 2005.

I live and die with this team – and have for decades but Wow….there realy are some sore losers on this blog.
What ever happened to the concept of fan = supporting your team???
I can see hating this game tonight but you’re throwing in the season towel now?? It’s July, not the last week of September…..
And come on, raise your hands – how many of you watched that season ending game last Sept.? I’ll bet every single one of us hung in to the bitter end.

It’s gonna be a dog fight, probably to the end. But we’re going to get this done.

    • skylog says:

i hope you are not putting me in that group. i have and will watch just about every game this season, regardless, as i have for years….and root for them to win each and every one.

if i come here and post somewhat negative things, that should not be confused with giving up or rooting against them. just being truthful to a game, series, player whatever.

that said, let’s get them tomorrow!

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

Not pointer fingers at any one poster – just collectively the ones who have the game over in the first, the season over back in May, all lost tonight b/c of this loss.

I’ve seen plenty of optimism also – such as yourself. But on nights like tonight, the ledge jumpers come out of the woodwork – or so it seems…..

    • SuicideWatch says:

No one is throwing in any towels, I just want them to win on a consistent basis.

      • almar1965 says:

If they win this series against the Marlins, that would make it 3 series wins in a row.

Would that fit your definition of consistent? Just curious.

  615. nymfan1218 says:

Totally agree. Suicide, they haven’t lost a series in July and you’re saying thry’re not winning on a consistent basis. Your argument about them being 5-5 is not logical. We cant just pick a 10 game stretch and say this is what the team is. You have to pick a logical point of the season to assess the team that we’re currently watching, and of course that’s when Willie was fired. Since then they are 23-14. Id say that qualifies as winning on a consistent basis. I understand that you think 5-5 shows that they’re still a .500 team but you have to seperate this team Before and After Manuel, cuz there is clearly a difference and the fact is under Manuel they are playing consistenly winning baseball. Cant just throw out the 10 game win streak, like someone said earlier cuz then lets just throw out the last 17 last year and the Mets are a 93-94 win team. Not logical at all
