The results speak for themselves. So far Manuel has done a fine job in a difficult situation. Anyone researching Santana’s history would know that he very rarely closes games. That is a thing of the past. That’s why I believe starters were more important in the past while the bullpen is of primary importance in today’s game. As an example in 1972 Steve Carlton won 27 games with a team that won 59 games total. He started 41 games and completed 30 of them. You will never see that again.

Totally agree. Suicide, they haven't lost a series in July and you're saying thry're not winning on a consistent basis. Your argument about them being 5-5 is not logical. We cant just pick a 10 game stretch and say this is what the team is. You have to pick a logical point of the season to assess the team that we're currently watching, and of course that's when Willie was fired. Since then they are 23-14. Id say that qualifies as winning on a consistent basis. I understand that you think 5-5 shows that they're still a .500 team but you have to seperate this team Before and After Manuel, cuz there is clearly a difference and the fact is under Manuel they are playing consistenly winning baseball. Cant just throw out the 10 game win streak, like someone said earlier cuz then lets just throw out the last 17 last year and the Mets are a 93-94 win team. Not logical at all

If they win this series against the Marlins, that would make it 3 series wins in a row.

Would that fit your definition of consistent? Just curious.

Excuse me, I looked at the All-Star break inadvertenty as the end of the 10 game winning streak. My bad.

But once again, you are using cherry-picked math to suit your argument.

5-5 since the 10 game winning streak, but I can say 25-14 since Jerry took over.

Or if I want to play this game forever, the Mets are 242-188 since the last game of 2005.

[sarcasm]They’ve won 15 out of 20. By golly give everyone a major raise and a long term contract.

Is that their winning percentage for the year or over a hot streak?[sarcasm]

The fact is if you have followed this team all along and not just during a hot streak you would realize that the bullpen has been inconsistent. If you’re in a pennant race you can’t bring in guys and cross your fingers. The bullpen has to be a source of strength and Omar realizes it because he has been seeking help. You can’t mortgage the farm for relief help but if you can upgrade the bullpen at reasonable cost in talent you have to address it.

Not pointer fingers at any one poster - just collectively the ones who have the game over in the first, the season over back in May, all lost tonight b/c of this loss.

I've seen plenty of optimism also - such as yourself. But on nights like tonight, the ledge jumpers come out of the woodwork - or so it seems.....

I guess my point is that, for the most part, when we have lost games recently, we have lost them in nine innings. We used to lose them in about 5, and just sleepwalk through the last half of the game.

We were pretty sloppy tonight, there's no denying that. But one game does not constitute a trend. And, even with our sloppiness, we didnt' give up. We just played badly and lost.

There is a bit of a worrisome trend in the making with the bullpen, but there's still time to address it. Let's give the coaches a chance to do that.
