In a report for SI.com, citing ‘people familiar with talks,’ Jon
Heyman writes that the Phillies a ‘may be the front-runners’ to acquire Red Sox OF Manny Ramirez.
According to Sherman, it is logical to suggest the Phillies could send Pat Burrell in such a deal.
However, according to Joel Sherman, in the New York Post, the Dodgers are the front-runners for Ramirez, who could cost them either Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier.
Heyman lists the Dodgers and Marlins as also being involved in talks with the Red Sox regarding Ramirez.
…i will not lie, the idea of Manny Ramirez batting behind Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard is downright frightening…that said, i just do not believe the Phillies will ever be successful slugging their way to a division title…
…it’s all about their bullpen, rotation and their arms in that stadium in August and September…

Tagged SNY |The are first and foremost interested in acquiring a relief pitcher, writes Buster Olney in a post to ESPN.com, followed by a corner outfielder and starting pitcher.
That said, according to Olney, “The Mets have continued discussions with the Mariners about outfielder Raul Ibanez, but as of early Tuesday afternoon, nothing seemed particularly promising.”
Olney adds that if talks with Seattle ‘heat up,’ they could ‘conceivably expand’ to include LHP Arthur Rhodes.
Speaking of outfielder, according to Jon Heyman in a recent
report for SI.com, “The Dodgers are one of a few teams showing interest in embattled superstar Manny Ramirez and are currently in discussions with the Red Sox…However, the Mets are said to not be involved.”
Speaking of Ramirez, also at SI.com, Tom Verducci explains why the Red Sox should simply keep Ramirez and also pick up his $20 million option for 2009.
