maybe it is a head trick?

Tell them 80 pitches, expecting them to take a lot, then just pump FBs in to go 0-2

I hope Pedro has gotten rid of the injury bug this season but something tells me this will be an ongoing thing throughout his entire career and will prevent him to ever throw at least half a season with the Mets and whichever else team he goes to next.

Although I'm sure everybody realized Pedro would be on a pitch count when he returned--after all, it's been a couple of weeks since he last started--I have no idea why the Mets felt the need to share the number with everybody. It's just like when the Yankees kept doing that with Joba, as he made the transition from reliever to starter. It makes no sense to let the other team know that, if they wait Pedro out, and run his pitch count up to a relatively low number, he'll be coming out, without question. It's almost guaranteed now that the Astros will take a ton of pitches and will likely get Pedro out around the 4th inning--5th at most.

Just say something like, "we will be watching him, and making sure he doesn't overdo it," and leave it at that.
