Buzz: Tigers have their Relief Pitcher
By Matthew Cerrone - Jul 30, 2008 8:26 pm

Earlier this week, in a report for the Boston Globe, citing a team official, Nick Cafardo wrote that the Mets would be willing to part with RHP Scott Schoeneweis if they could obtain an outfielder.

According to Cafardo, the Tigers could be interested in Schoeneweis.

…there had been an idea floating around that the Mets could trade shoney to the Tigers for an outfielder, than acquire one of the many relief pitchers on the market to fill in the bullpen

however, it just occurred to me, that by the Tigers acquiring RHP Kyle Farnsworth from the Yankees for Ivan Rodriguez, they must no longer be seeking a relief pitcher, like schoeneweis

That said, according to a recent post from Dan Graziano at the Star-Ledger, the Yankees, Tigers, Rangers and Rays have all talked to the Mets about Schoeneweis.

…so, i guess the above model, which includes the Mets getting an outfielder, could still be in play

And last time I checked Schoenweis was LEFTY. The amount of mistakes on this site is staggering.

Why do you keep referring to Show as RHP?

Why the hell are we not in on the Manny Ramirez discussion? Are we really going to let the damn Marlins land him?

Look, I’m sure Omar is trying to land reinforcements, but only Fernando Martinez should be untouchable.

If Omar hasn’t picked up the phone and offered Jon Niese, Dan Murphy and Eddie Kunz for Manny or something along those lines, then I’m disappointed in Omar.

Niese is a #4 starter.

Murphy is more of a DH.

Kunz may be a closer, but his walks may also mean he’s more of a middle reliever.

UGH!

completely agree…If you put manny ramirez in the mets lineup, u are looking at a world series roster. Without him they are just a team contending for the playoffs.
With manny on the mets, i dont see any other team in the NL better then the mets

The problem is other GM’s can’t understand Omar on the phone.

If the Mariners lower their asking price. Ibanez will be in Flushing in a heartbeat.

you know we’re not going to the deadline without making a deal, even if it’s just to make one.

Trade Schoeneweis to the Yankees for Nady

Schoenweis to the Yankees? For who - Melky? Rrrrrrrrright… Maybe Abreu :)

To the Rays for Baldelli? You have no guarantees the man will play baseball this season while trying to figure out what will be the best course to treat mitochondrial disorder.

To the Tigers for who? I doubt they want Schoenweis now that they got Farnsworth.

To the Rangers… maybe for Jason Botts or Nelson Cruz who is playing in Triple-A.

I still do not see Manny Ramirez go to the Marlins. I’m sure he will go through the trading deadline as a Redsox and as customary, they will pass him through waivers and hope someone bites.

Didn’t Botts go overseas to like Japan or Taiwan?

LaTroy Hawkins traded to Houston for Matt Cusick… dare I say the Yankees are probably angling for another trade after acquiring Pudge, Marte and Nady?
