postGame: Marlins 7 Mets 5
By Brandon Eddy - Jul 30, 2008 10:11 pm

The Marlins (57–51) took two out of three from the Mets (58–50) following a 7 to 5 win in Miami tonight.

For a recap, boxscore, stats, etc., go to SNY.tv.

  • The Mets took the early lead in the top of the 1st inning when Jose Reyes singled and then later scored on a David Wright double play.
  • Brian Schneider made a nice tag at the plate on Dan Uggla to keep the one run lead. Keith Hernandez expressed how he really felt about Uggla’s slide, calling it “the slide du jour and it stinks!”
  • Mike Pelfrey continued his strong pitching through three innings. However, it all came crashing down when he surrendered five runs on six hits in the fourth. Pelfrey’s line for the night: 4 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 3 K. Ouch!
  • I agree with Matt’s statement about how annoying it is to watch games in Florida. Although hearing what some of these fans yell is pretty amusing.
  • Carlos Muniz was impressive in two innings to keep the Mets in the game. He struck out four in two innings pitched.
  • Muniz’s effort turned out to be big when, in the top of the 7th, Damion Easley jacked a three-run home run to cut the lead by one run.
  • Duaner Sanchez seemed to get back on track with only nine pitches thrown in the bottom half of the 7th.
  • Uggla killed any hope of a Mets comeback with a towering two-run shot off of the recently struggling Joe Smith in the bottom of the 8th.
  • With two outs in the ninth, again the Mets almost came back with three straight hits, but Jose Reyes flied out to center field to end the game.

This was a big win for the Marlins confidence, and if they somehow land Manny Ramirez, I will be legitimately concerned. The Mets now fall out of first place by a half a game following the Phillies win over the Nationals tonight.

The ‘Metsies,’ as Keith likes to call them, are off tomorrow and head to Houston to start a three-game series on Friday. Pedro Martinez returns to the mound to face Brandon Backe.

it says manny still has to agree to this trade. i doubt he will to be honest

    • stickguy says:

that would be funny. All the mouthing off to be traded, then when he gets what he wanted, he won’t do it!

    • D-Day says:

he will do it! he wants out and he lives in florida year round!

  2. dwright012 says:

    sigh..

once again we need you Pedro… are you gonna answer the call?

  3. Genesis Does says:

It sucks we’re out of first, but the Mets keep fighting. Theyll be back in no time.

    • bkfitz says:

by .5 game. We have an easy August. Biggest series is 2 games against Philly.

      • m00kie says:

unfortunately “small” series haven’t necessarily been this team’s speciality…though that has changed a bit under the manuel regime.

  4. stickguy says:

    lousy trip to Fla.

Take the day off, see what the trade deadline Santa brings, and come out and smack around the Astros.

SPeaking of th4 Stros, does Ed Wade have any clue what he is doing? does he think the team is heavy in the WC? trading an actual prospect for Hawkins, on top of his other questionable moves?

  5. mikepelfreyismyguy says:

phillies are winning this division unless maine comes back. if they dont get manny, dont expect the mets to win the division the way that chase utley is heating up

  6. Darth Manuel says:

    Make a move Omar!!..

  7. D-Day says:

DAMN! out of first place! owning the phillies this year isnt going to amount to much if we can consistently beat other teams. good to see some ninth innig fight in this game even thought nothing came of it. oh well. we need to light up the astros this weekend and reclaim our rightful spot atop the standings. and let the marlins have manny, hes a primadonna and a person who KILLS chemistry in a clubhouse! whatever, LETS GO METS!

    • therealsince86 says:

Consistantly beat good teams on the road? That would be tough for anyone to do this season.

  8. Church4prez says:

I applaud Marlins Ownership fir making a move to win now. Omar is clueless and probably just can’t comprehend what other gm;s say on the phone

  9. metsflip says:

I know the seasons not over and there’s many gams left to play, but the Marlins announcers dont make things better

  10. Church4prez says:

Church shut down again. PLEASE SHUT HIM DOWN FOR THE YEAR HE IS HURT AND MESSED UP

    • stickguy says:

what happened? Where did you get that?

If he really is shut down again after minimal activity, they should probably just DL him for the year, and hope for the best next spring.

    • BehindTheBag says:

Long time lurker here. Yes, watching this game was painful. However, Church4prez, you are an embarrassment to Metsblog.com. Poor grammar spelling yields little credibility… whether (not weather) it’s (it’s is not possessive) on Metsblog, in a work email, etc. If anything, don’t let this act as an impediment to future success…I’m sure “gipper” agrees with this assessment.

      An impromptu lesson:
      You’re = you are
      Their = possessive
      Its = possessive
“alot” is not a word… “a lot” is correct
      “Ridiculous” is the correct spelling
      “Immediately” is the correct spelling
“too” is not the same as “to”
“loose” is the opposite of tight.

Gipper, would u please throw in ur too cents bc this has gottin rediculous…thanx. Hope we goin 2 have sum betr luck gainst the Astros.

  11. stickguy says:

Still wouldn’t surprise me if the Mets don’t make any trades by the deadline, but I do think they will make some moves.

Expect Church back early next week (crossing fingers here!). And a couple of shuffles in the pen, my guessing that Kunz and maybe someone like Lugo? will be coming up?

  12. MetfaninFL says:

This game was pretty lousy but at least they tried to fight back in the end. Pelfrey looked bad but I expected an outing like this at some point, the guy isn’t going to win 20 starts in a row he will lose some. Although tonight my concerns about the OF were not eased. Marlon Anderson is running on one leg and Church says he isn’t going to start a rehab assignment. I wonder if this puts some of our untouchables back on the table. I hope we make a move for someone because it could be a big blow to our psyche if the Marlins get Manny and the Phils already got Blanton while we stand pat with obvious holes. Hopefully the day off clears their head and they are ready to play a not very good Houston team.

  13. metsflip says:

Marlins announcer about Delgados long fly ball:
“And I love how Cody puts his hand up as if to say its ok I got this!”
no he’s checking if he’s up against the wall u @$$hole!

  14. Church4prez says:

Manny ripped the sox again. even worse calling them that they dont deserve him

  15. skylog says:

i am out. see you hopefully for a mets win and maybe an improved roster come the weekend.

  16. therealsince86 says:

Hey C4P, how old are you seriously? I have to know this before you make another post.
Are you old enough to remember July 30th 2004? You don’t make trades just to make a trade.

Also, did you want Johan? If you did then you should understand that giving up 4 of our best prospects would keep us from making this type of move during the season this year. Only common sense would tell you that and obviously you have not developed that sense yet.

    • SuicideWatch says:

He’s also making up things about Church too.

      • Church4prez says:

Not really, manuel said he will be rested for a few days

        • therealsince86 says:

Maybe they are just seeing how he reacts to no activity. That is kinda normal for head injuries. Go back out and work out, then take a few days off. If not then yes it is time to shut him down for the season.

    • Church4prez says:

This team is not going anywhere as presently constructed. How can Omar let a guy like Manny go to a divison rival wihout a call?

  17. stickguy says:

if they really are springing more holes (OF if Church isn’t coming back, BP scuffling, SP with Maine and Pedro iffy), IMO it means Omar should do LESS not more moves.

logic being, don’t unload the farm unless you really think 1 guy is almost a guarantee. And I doubt there is anyone out there that qualifies for the Mets.

So, tweak what you can, make the best run possible, and if they miss the WS (or playoffs), get to work rebuilding in the off season, which is what needs to happen anyway.

    • therealsince86 says:

Great post stickguy. This roster is good enough to go on a 15 game winning streak and take the division or maybe not and stay in it until the end. One player is not going to do anything to MAKE us win the WS. It does not even guarntee that we will make the playoffs because we have so many other question marks like Maine and Pedro.

Pickup a couple of no name guys like Bradford and Winn for salary dumps and role with what we have.

    • SuicideWatch says:

I agree with all of that except, if they miss the playoffs Omar may not be around to “get to work”

      • therealsince86 says:

Eh, it just depends on how we finish. If we collapse and finish at .500 or something then maybe. If we keep playing well and get out played because the Marlins got Manny and the Phillies, LOL, got Joe Blanton then so be it.

    • deloid says:

Outstanding thought process (IMHO). Good to see patient logical thinkers here.
      * No sarcasm

  18. bigvito22 says:

While it sucks that we are no longer in first, being in first doesn’t mean a damn thing until the division is clinched, as we’ve learned the hard way.

33 games in 2 months against noticeably weak teams, it’s time to step it up and prove these aren’t the 2007 Mets

Omar is gonna do with what he thinks is right…and believe me, he knows his job is on the line if we fail to make the postseason.

  19. AngryFan says:

    Marlins got Manny.

    Season over.

    • therealsince86 says:

LOL, I hope you are joking that the season is over because they Marlins got Manny. They still may finish 3rd. It does not make them some superstar team. Has anyone considered how easy their 1st half schedule was? Easiest in baseball, that has to even out.

    • metsflip says:

      Really????

    • MetfaninFL says:

Again, what hole does Manny Ramirez fill for the Marlins?
HR Hitter- Marlins already have a bunch of those almost lead NL in HR’s
Bad/Lazy Defensively- Marlins already have a lot of that. Manny couldn’t cover the shortest LF in the AL how is he going to play any D in the outfield the size of Yellowstone?
RH Bat- By replacing Hermedia with Ramirez they become even more of a RH team. They dispatched their only competent LH hitter Hermdia and even more so if they get rid of Jacobs for Molina.
The addition of Molina would be more beneficial to the Marlins because he would be a good Defensive catcher with Offensive ability and is a clear addition to the team. Manny just adds more of what the Marlins have.

    • f.e says:

the mets are in the perfect place right now they loose a game
and they are out of first and everbody says they are dead there is still two months left of baseball just look back two months when they were playing the dodgers at shea and took three of four now look two months ahead to the present and look at where they are now and all that has happened throughout baseball
For the mets it is better looking up a this point then looking back it makes them play harder
another point everybody is talking about this florida team like they are a joke why because they have a 30 million dollar payrol these guys have been up at the top of the division all season give them some credit

  20. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

Thats right….UPDATE that NL East standings…..

    Phillies in first place

    Mutts = chokers

    • therealsince86 says:

Had we been in 1st place all season? I can’t remember, I seem to remember you guys being about 8 games up. How did we get the lead?

      • Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

        What lead??

        LOL…

        • therealsince86 says:

The one you just took. I can’t understand. Like I said did we have the lead the entire season and you guys took it away? What, you guys had the lead already this season? Really? You were up 8 games? Really? I must have missed it.

        • f.e says:

philly a real joke to basbal even if they get in the playoffs there gonna choke philly is a looser city thats why you work in new york

    • Church4prez says:

GET THE F**K OUT OF HERE YOU LOSER!! GO BACK TO YOUR FILTHY CITY AND GO ROOT FOR YOUR LOSING TEAMS!! YOU HAVE WON NOTHING YOU BUM!

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Another Philly fan OBSESSED with the Mets. Instead of a Philly board he’s reading up on the Mets and their fans. Someone is in someone else’s head.

  21. Church4prez says:

    Manny deal done

    • therealsince86 says:

Thank god, it’s over. Now you can get back to MR>>>>>>>>> CLUTCH RAUUUUUUUUUUL IBANNNNNNNNNNNNNNEZ.

      • Church4prez says:

IBANEZ SUCKS. HE IS AN OLD BUM. THE METS BETTER MAKE A MOVE OR FIRE OMAR!!

        • therealsince86 says:

LOL, is this some other C4P?

        • Church4prez says:

I AM SICK OF THIS TEAM WITH SMITH AND TATIS AND WAITING ON CHURCH AND PEDRO AND EL DUQUE AND THESE BUMS!! GO GET HOLLIDAY NOW!

        • SuicideWatch says:

That’ll be easy….let’s go get Holliday. What do you want to give Colorado?? Martinez, Niese, Kunz, and Flores…toss in Carp and Parnell for good measure?

        • Church4prez says:

I DONT CARE, THIS TEAM IS NOT WINNING ANYTHING WITH CHAVEZ TATIS AND THIS GOD AWFUL PEN

        • SuicideWatch says:

They’re not winning anything with the trades you suggest either and it will only ensure they don’t win anything in the next 3-4 years too.

    • SuicideWatch says:

Where are you seeing this?? Post a link.

  22. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

    I said earlier this week:

Mets to lose series with the Fish

You all underestimated them “they have no pitching they have no defense..”

    LOL

    • metsflip says:

First of all, why dont you visit us when we win? We love your company!
Second of all, let me give you some advice,
Dont get too cockey or you’ll be shocked

    • KL15 says:

The Phillies have no pitching either. Look good for your Phillies that they have the lead in the Easter Division by a half game. They’re not built to win in the post season and you know that as well as I do. I will agree that the Mets have problems, but the Phillies have bigger ones.

    • VegasMet says:

The Mets have won every series in July (2-2 split @ Cincy) until the last one. Not too bad, and Phils will not sweep the Cards & Fish, like they are on the verge of doing to the Nats.

Mets will rebound with series win @ Houston, and possible sweep, and then home for the Friars.

We should be well aware of the pitiful 4-game debacle @ San Diego, since it was the absolute lowest point of the season.

I expect a winning stretch of baseball over the next week. By next Thursday we will be in first place with room to spare…

  23. krispy644 says:

    Ommmaarrr

    Relievers please???

I hope he doesnt expect to win if he doesnt make any moves.

  24. Championmets says:

Just a thought, Kris Benson made a 5th triple A start for the phillies this week, more depth for the phillies, none for the mets

    • therealsince86 says:

We already have that kinda depth in Vargas, Armas and Figgy. I know Armas is kinda injured but still.

  25. bigvito22 says:

Hey Philly fan…..use our embarrassment last season as an example: being in first place now doesn’t mean a god damn thing.

  26. Mookie1986 says:

With the exception of Reyes and Gado, Mets offense has been down in this series. Nice to see guys coming off the bench and adding a spark to help keep them in it.

But this one hangs purely on the pen… again. Smith pretty much killed it all by his lonesome by surrendering that bomb to Uggla which gave the Marlins all the insurance they would need to wrap this one up.

Mets have been doing a great job of winning series of late, so I can’t be that up set by this. Can’t win em all. So let’s just get back on that horse and take at least 2 out of 3 from the Astros.

  27. SuicideWatch says:

It’s getting a little late for 2 of 3, we need sweeps.

    • kd bart says:

I’d take 36-18 the rest of the season. That’s 94 wins.

    • Mookie1986 says:

What? That last 10 game streak not good enough? You can’t sweep everyone all of the time. and you certainly can’t keep taking series after series. Gotta lose one every once in a while.

Just as long as they win more then they lose.

    • therealsince86 says:

LOL, really? We are .5 games back and we need sweeps in late July? Late comes around way to early these days.

  28. krispy644 says:

    To the Philly fan…

come back when you’ve actually beaten the Mets in a 3 or 4 game series this season.

    lmao

  29. Church4prez says:

    Manny ripping Sox
    bosotnherald.com
“They haven’t asked me for anything,” Ramirez most recently told ESPNdeportes.com, apparently to the question of whether the Red Sox have approached him with a trade to approve.

“The Red Sox don’t deserve a player like me,” Ramirez said. “During my years here I’ve seen how they have mistreated other great players when they didn’t want them to try to turn the fans against them. The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me.

“Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy,” Ramirez added. “I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don’t deserve me. I’m not talking about money. Mental peace has no price and I don’t have peace here.”

    • therealsince86 says:

I actually agree with him. They did do that to all of those guys and poor Bill Buckner.

      • gomets6091 says:

they did it to Vaughn, Boggs, and Clemens too (although in retrospect, Clemens pretty clearly deserved it)

  30. SuicideWatch says:

The Mets’ strategy for the moment, sources say, is to upgrade in any area that could make the team better, but only if the price is right. Thus, they could move on a starter, reliever, hitter or utility player, but are not focused on one particular area of need.

    –Ken Rosenthal, FoxSports

  31. AngryFan says:

Omar values these prospects so much today…..they better f**king produce when the time comes

    • KL15 says:

That time may be very soon.

      • AngryFan says:

If Omar wants to stand pat so be it but his a** is on the line if they don’t make the playoffs and those players bust (or can’t be spun for a better deal in the offseason)

    • therealsince86 says:

It’s not even that. It’s just you can’t keep dealing your top prospects every year. When we got Johan we all knew that would cause problems at the deadline. That is the price we paid. Just look at Johan as our trade, it just happen a lot earlier than the others.

  32. Church4prez says:

FIRE OMAR. HE DOESEN’T CARE ABOUT WINNING

  33. Church4prez says:

SIGN BONDS AND THAT WILL EQUAL MANNY

    • BlueCapsOnly says:

thats actually the best point you’ve made all night

    • SuicideWatch says:

      Crack pipe anyone?

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      Just Stop.

      Past your bedtime, ace.

    • kd bart says:

Either you are posting to have some fun regarding the ridiculousness of it all or you are dumbest Met fan on this board. I haven’t come to a conclusion which it is yet.

      • therealsince86 says:

You have not been on here enough. I have been here since the begining of the blog and during his month he has become the biggest clown that Mets blog has EVER seen. More so that even Mr. Met.

    • f.e says:

who cares about manny as soon as he experiances the florida heat he will tell them his knee hurts

      • KL15 says:

Too funny. But you do have a point, Manny Ramierez isn’t a spring chicken and he’s not the greatest defensive left fielder going to a team where the defense is suspect,

        • AngryFan says:

They’ll actually draw a lot of fans with Manny. I dunno, I HATE the thought of that young team fired up behind a supportive crowd. They’re too young to understand that they’re supposed to fade.

  34. MeesesGlokmah says:

Off topic, but I was watching ESPN, and they showed Delgado almost getting that homerun. Then they commented on the horrible camera work. I thought it was funny.

  35. Church4prez says:

Jon neise better be Koufax, F Mart better be Ted Williams

    • KL15 says:

What if they are? What if they’re not?

    • therealsince86 says:

You want them to be old or dead?

As far as them being HOF, no one says they will be. Are they better than 2 months of Manny? Most likely.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      Why? Point, please.

      • Mookie1986 says:

He doesn’t bring points. Only blanket statements.

But hey, I’m all about having the second coming of Ted and Sandy playing for my Mets! Where do I sign?

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

LOL – ‘If you build it, they will come’…..

        • Mookie1986 says:

You point me towards the nearest corn field and I’ll mow that f@#cker down and build the best ball field anyone’s ever seen if it meant Neise and Martinez would turn out to be the Next Ted and Sandy!

  36. KL15 says:

Right now I know all of our nerves are raw and that’s understandable. I know everyone wants to win now. But come on everyone lets look at the future. In 2009, Oliver Perez is a free agent, put John Neise in his spot. Put Fernando Martinez in left or move Beltran into left and put F-Mart in center. Second base seems to be alot more stable with Reyes, and have anyone ever floated the idea of moving Murphy to first? Maybe it’s a bad idea, but I would rather see some groundwork laid out for the next 5 years, rather than blow out for this one.

    • therealsince86 says:

I can agree with some things. We are not a small market team so you don’t have to go all youth. Beltran is not moving from CF for Fmart, LOL.
Niese may go into the rotation but only if we sign a big name guy like Sheets or CC. A. Reyes is a poor man’s Ruben Gotay. He does not provide ANY stability for 2nd base. That is why they are moving Murphy to 2nd base.
But other than that, I agree we have some ground work laid. Not to mention 40 million coming off the books this offseason.

      • f.e says:

murphy they hope will compete for 2nd base in spring training he will probabley be promoted to triple a when double a season ends neise still needs a full year triple a carp is trade bait martinez cant play the corners to good so he ant going to center and he still needs afull year in triple a or at least part of one parnell and kunz might be up soon
there is a lot of money comming free at the end of the season

        • KL15 says:

That sounds good to me. Why not send Neise to AAA for the rest of this year? I agree Carp is trade bait, and I think Martinez has the capacity to get better at playing the corners, maybe your idea of a year or half year in AAA will work. There really isn’t alot coming on the free agent market at the end of the season, most of that free money may be used for extensions.

        • therealsince86 says:

Niese is already in AAA. I would not mind seeing us go get Randy Winn and move Fmart up to AAA next year. Then allow Fmart to take that job as the season went on. I know Winn is not great but there is nothing out there right now and no decent FA either.

  37. SuicideWatch says:

I’ve accepted that the Mets are no more than a .500 team in 2008, therefore considering .500 teams rarely win the World Series I’d rather keep all the prospects and build for 2009 and beyond.

Remember please that it isn’t necessarily true that any of these prospects will ever play a game at Shea or CitiField, but it is absolutely necessary that if they are dealt, the Mets get good value in return…..not 2 months of Manny Ramirez.

    • MetfaninFL says:

I agree with your overall sentiment but “considering .500 teams rarely win the World Series”. With the NL the way it is nothing would surprise me.

  38. Darth Manuel says:

I can’t believe I’m saying this but if you can sign Bonds for nothing.. Why not.. Omar doesn’t want to trade our prospects for a bat well then here is you option. The guy can still hit..

    • SuicideWatch says:

I agree, just don’t see it.

    • MetfaninFL says:

What makes you so sure he can still hit? He hasn’t played all year. While it makes perfect sense to get him I don’t really believe that he could just pick up a bat and turn into the hitter he was for the last few years. It would take him a while to get back into the swing of things and by then either we’ll be competing well with what we have or we’ll be out of the race.

  39. KL15 says:

OK fair enough. Put FMart in left, I think it would be more beneficial to sign Sheets than Sabathia because with Niese there are already two lefty’s in the roatation. Is Murphy working out at second? If so probelm solved. And Nick Evans, is he an outfielder or a first baseman by trade? And how about this, has anyone ever floated the idea of Ryan Church moving to first. I thought I read somewhere that he would like to play that postion since he grew up idolizing Will Clark. And more than that he’s a lefty so maybe Hernandez and leave the announcers booth and teach him something about the position. I get what you’re saying about not being a small market team, and you’re right. As I said earlier, I just don’t want to see the Mets become the Yankees light.

    • AngryFan says:

Heaven forfend we become chock full of stars, playoff appearances, and rings!

      • KL15 says:

How’s that worked out latelty for the Yankees? When they were winning championships they had farm system guys as well as free agents.

        • AngryFan says:

Looks like it’s working for them. Playoffs every year, a**loads of money to spend, and still managed to build a farm system somehow.

        • therealsince86 says:

But since they went all money it has not worked too well for them. They make the playoffs but are too old and tired to win it.

I get that they make the playoffs, and that’s fine. I’m in it to win it, and since the days of Scott Brosius, Bernie WIlliams, Jorge Posasa (before he blew his shoulder) etc. they haven’t won anything. I agree that money will build a farm system though scouting, but they had home grown players when they were winning world titles.

Agreed for the most part but I like Church’s bat in the lineup but I don’t like the idea of him at first. He has an absolute cannon in RF. Why put him in a situation where that goes to waste.

      • KL15 says:

        Fair enough, just a thought.

        • MetfaninFL says:

I just re-read my post and I sound like a jerk. I apologize. I was trying to say that while Church at 1st sounds like a good idea his skill set seems well adapted to RF and there is less of a chance of collisions in RF compared to 1B. People like Cliff Floyd had to move to the OF because of collisions. With his history of concussions he should probably be protected if he comes back.

Apology is quite un-necessary. And it was just a thought, I wasn’t sure it would work out.

the problem with all this talk is that if degado keeps it up he will be back next year

        • therealsince86 says:

Just depends on who is available and who is signed. Say we got Holliday for Niese, Parnell, Kunz and Evans (not saying I would or we would). Fmart is then blocked. Do you move him to 1B or Church?

        • KL15 says:

I’ll get killed for this, that’s too much to give up for Matt Holliday.

You know what would be GREAT!!! The compensation rules for free agent signings state that a team with the 16th or worse record (bottom 15 records) does not have to give up their 1st round draft pick as compensation for signing a free agent.

I say, tank this year and load up on free agents without any recourse this winter..Tex, Sheets, Sabathia, and still draft a top 15 pick.

    Let’s Go 2009!!

I never like the rent-a-player concept. We got bordick in 2000 for 2 months. It would have been nice to have had Melvin Mora all of these years…he’s had a pretty solid career.

  42. meatloaf says:

Can we finally get past Ryan Church? He has been out a month and can’t even get through BP. He is NOT comng back and it is now time to get an OF. Wait……we missed out on Nady, Blake, Ramirez and Bay? Damn, Who’s left?

  43. The King of Queens says:

Is the Mets farm really that bad that besides Niese and Fmart we have no other players that any team want to trade for. Look at the trades that have been made Yankees, Angels, Phillies, Dodgers, Cubs, and Brewers hardly have to give up any of their top prospects or starters in these trades so why can’t the Mets get anything done? If the farm is really that bad then we either need get rid of Omar get new scouts or better minor league coaches to develop our prospects. The era of buying a team in free agency is over a strong farm is the key to winning these days by developing your own talent and using trades to bring in impact players.

    • Koko says:

You do realize that the Mets spent 4 of their top prospects to get Santana right?

And I wouldn’t call what the Phillies gave up for Blanton nothing – based on who Blanton is. Same with the Cubs and Brewers.

Nady to the Yankees was questionable, but the rest were fairly fare.
