they did it to Vaughn, Boggs, and Clemens too (although in retrospect, Clemens pretty clearly deserved it)

unfortunately "small" series haven't necessarily been this team's speciality...though that has changed a bit under the manuel regime.

The Mets have won every series in July (2-2 split @ Cincy) until the last one. Not too bad, and Phils will not sweep the Cards & Fish, like they are on the verge of doing to the Nats.

Mets will rebound with series win @ Houston, and possible sweep, and then home for the Friars.

We should be well aware of the pitiful 4-game debacle @ San Diego, since it was the absolute lowest point of the season.

I expect a winning stretch of baseball over the next week. By next Thursday we will be in first place with room to spare...

You do realize that the Mets spent 4 of their top prospects to get Santana right?

And I wouldn't call what the Phillies gave up for Blanton nothing - based on who Blanton is. Same with the Cubs and Brewers.

Nady to the Yankees was questionable, but the rest were fairly fare.

Is the Mets farm really that bad that besides Niese and Fmart we have no other players that any team want to trade for. Look at the trades that have been made Yankees, Angels, Phillies, Dodgers, Cubs, and Brewers hardly have to give up any of their top prospects or starters in these trades so why can’t the Mets get anything done? If the farm is really that bad then we either need get rid of Omar get new scouts or better minor league coaches to develop our prospects. The era of buying a team in free agency is over a strong farm is the key to winning these days by developing your own talent and using trades to bring in impact players.

Can we finally get past Ryan Church? He has been out a month and can't even get through BP. He is NOT comng back and it is now time to get an OF. Wait......we missed out on Nady, Blake, Ramirez and Bay? Damn, Who's left?

I never like the rent-a-player concept. We got bordick in 2000 for 2 months. It would have been nice to have had Melvin Mora all of these years...he's had a pretty solid career.

I'll get killed for this, that's too much to give up for Matt Holliday.

Niese is already in AAA. I would not mind seeing us go get Randy Winn and move Fmart up to AAA next year. Then allow Fmart to take that job as the season went on. I know Winn is not great but there is nothing out there right now and no decent FA either.
