  1. CitizenSnips says:

0-50 is a pretty deplorable record for someone who only made 3 starts.

  2. QnsNative718 says:

    Marlon… Ugh..

    • met5fan says:

Seriously, hasn’t manuel learned from this bust in the past…last time he played left field he almost tripped over himself while running for a fly ball and he can’t hit anything…come on. if chavez needs a day off, lets see what evans has to offer

  3. metmania says:

    why anderson why?

    • MetropolitanBaseball87 says:

I agree completely that anderson should not be starting anywhere in the OF..let alone sniffing the starting lineup.

But if I had to go inside Manuel’s head I would guess that he figures Pelf is a ground ball pitcher when he’s on and he wants to try and get Marlon’s bat going..

    • Nate W. says:

They arent going to get him going by having him sit on the bench and take tons of BP.

They should DFA him and get him to AAA where he could start for two weeks and get his swing straightened out.

  4. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

can we beat this guy? i mean hes 0-50 for goodness sake.,, but seriously all this team tries to do is hit home runs. lets shut these idiotic marlin announcers up. 3 games back will look nice

    LETS GO BIG PELF!!!!!!!!!

  5. 911nafstem says:

This is a bad outfield for Marlon, lots of ground and those horrible lights.

  6. dcmetsfan says:

Well at least those of us watching on Extra Innings have the option to watch the away team feed, which means we get to escape the horrendous marlins announcers.

  7. BlueCapsOnly says:

    Hammer Counter:

    Testing, testing….

    0

  8. Church4prez says:

Marlon Anderson?? Are you kidding me??

  9. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    0-50??? That’s barry zito numbers

  10. Church4prez says:

5:56pm: Baseball Prospectus’ John Perrotto has multiple baseball sources saying the Red Sox are on the verge of sending Ramirez to Florida for three players, including outfielder Mike Stanton.

    Great

  11. MetsFan1989 says:

0-50 we r scrwed. hes due and w/ marlon in LMFAO

  12. JoseReyesForPresident says:

nooo not marlon lord why they need to release this guy already as if noone can tell he sucks

  13. Nightlife says:

    Go Big Pelf!!!

  14. JoseReyesForPresident says:

wait 0-50 is that real or he miss typed it?

  15. mex84 says:

Lets go Mets! Lets go big Pelf! Keep that ball down and let the defense handle it for you.

  16. Darth Manuel says:

Why why why is Marlon Anderson still in the starting lineup.. Robinson Cancel could do a better job in LF than he can. This is bologna. Jerry your killin me!!!

  17. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

i cant see how ramirez wants to go to florida

  18. metsfan42793 says:

people should stop complaining about the marlins announcers. people complain how they root for the marlins but its not like gary keith and ron dont root for the mets. u dont see gary making an enthusiastic outta here when the opponent hits a homerun

    • skylog says:

sorry, but there is a difference

      • metsfan42793 says:

there is a difference. obviously gary keith and ron r better but sayin they r rootin for their team makes their broadcast bad doesnt make sence cuz the mets announcers do the same thing

        • skylog says:

see, i disagree. from time to time the mets announcers may lean a little more towards the mets, and i clearly can not agrue the home run call and stuff that gary do, but as a whole, they do not “root” for the mets.

having listened to all the other feeds now for a few seasons, it is clear to me that they are close to if not the least biased crew out there, while some of there are just simply horrid with respect to their “homerism.” i won’t even get started on their actual “announcing.”

        • skylog says:

          *does

        • skylog says:

*there. man, am i wasted or something?

      • dcmetsfan says:

Not only are the Mets announcers less blatant about it, Ron and Keith actually offer insightful baseball analysis. They pick up on the little nuances of the game, and provide information that the average fan is not aware of. The Marlins announcers could be replaced by two dudes on the street and they’d provide as much useful analysis as the guys are that are in place.

  19. EV says:

Why does Jerry start Anderson , it really makes no sense. Why do I have a bad feeling that the Mets are not going to make a trade.

  20. cousinrk says:

    Jose is a beast.

  21. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

    Way to go Reyes Squared.

  22. cousinrk says:

    Argenis, Argenis, Argenis, Argenis…Arrrrrrrrgenis, Argenis.

Doesn’t have the same Umph! that the Jose chant has

  23. DavidDog says:

    the reyes bros!

  24. skylog says:

that was a thing of beauty

  25. CitizenSnips says:

This Florida feed has a monopoly on bad camera angles.

  26. Church4prez says:

    wonderful job david

  27. Church4prez says:

can gary please get glasses?? that was not even close

  28. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

david wright leads the mets in dp, good job. but hey 1 run should be good enough for a few pelf innings

  29. BlueCapsOnly says:

    big fly time?

  30. bigvito22 says:

Alright, glad to see the fast start. Let’s go Mike!!!

  31. skylog says:

man, what a great yet not so great strart to the game. i had visions of a few more runs there.

side note, what does everyone think about pudge to the yankees?

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Past his prime, suspected juicer…fits right in. For all their talk about a youth movement in their rotation, they’re an old team around the field and I don’t know what their position prospects are like (I’m going to think that since they’re not getting too hyped up much mean they’re not that great because way too many of their mediocre pitchers were put through the Yankee media machine).

  32. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

And the Nats are laying down for the Phils.

    • skylog says:

they are just laying down for everyone lately. what, 10 runs in their last 9 games?

      • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

They just got their customary run for the game. Too bad they were already down 2-0.

    • therealsince86 says:

By scoring 3 runs in the 1st?

      • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Yeah well, no time to bust out of a slump like the present. I wrote that comment when they had loaded the bases for the Phils in the top of the 1st.

      • skylog says:

i am waiting for some sort of act of god, well, i mean another one given that they did just put up 3

  33. ReyesMets says:

I LOVE the bottom 3 in our line-up tonight…serious run producing potential from those boys!

  34. EV says:

I just learned what TV monitors Gary and Keith use, you are not going to get that on the Marlins broadcast lol.

  35. bigvito22 says:

    Alright Mike!!!

  36. EV says:

    Yea Big Pelf!!!!!!!

  37. Church4prez says:

    Pelfrey dominating

  38. Nightlife says:

    Pelf starting out very nicely.

  39. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    1. david wright gets bailed out by delgado at least every 2 throws

    2. big pelf is a stud

    • MetropolitanBaseball87 says:

      1) Delgado might have the worst range of any 1B in baseball, but he can pick it with the best of them.

      2) STUD

  40. Darth Manuel says:

I know I’m going to get Flamed for this so flame away but.. What about taking Andruw Jones off of the dodgers for a B prospect and keeping have Hojo work with him. There is no way he is as bad as his stats portray and could figure it out. If we could ever get him back on track that would be a huge life to this team. Plus he not that bad in the outfield.

    • Darth Manuel says:

excuse the grammar.. I’m eating as i type…

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Are the Dodgers going to pay us to take him? They’re going to need to eat almost all of his salary to ever move him. In fact a B level prospect in AA could probably produce the same as he has the past 1.5 seasons.

      • Darth Manuel says:

If the fish get manny.. The NL east is going to be a beast down the stretch..

  41. MetropolitanBaseball87 says:

IS THIS A METS CLASSIC FROM 2007??
OR DID MARLON ANDERSON ACTUALLY GET A BASE HIT?!?!

  42. skylog says:

    wow, nats are alive

  43. Nightlife says:

    Marlon basehit?

    Is this the Twilight Zone?

  44. UpstateDave says:

Yeah, Anderson sucks. He can’t hit at all. Particularly not to the opposite field.

  45. ReyesMets says:

Thatta boy, Schneider…never saw that one coming

  46. Nightlife says:

    Schneider…………still sucks.

  47. Church4prez says:

moyer getting bombed. big game here guys.

  48. bringbackolerud5 says:

    My Lord…….Schneider is HORRENDOUS

  49. skylog says:

not going to win too many games hitting into a double play every inning. come on.

    • hi5wright says:

Remember that BRUTAL Brewers game in April? I hope it’s not deja vu of that one. That was painful.

  50. DavidDog says:

schneider just kills us… cant even clear the pitcher spot. doesnt anybody need a “great defensive catcher”?

  51. bringbackolerud5 says:

Will any pitcher on the Mets finish the season with more extra base hits than Schneider??? Haha, should we take bets? LOL

  52. Dafatone80 says:

You know… I’m willing to accept that it wouldn’t have made a difference, but Marlon could have at least attempted a takeout slide there.

    • DavidDog says:

yeah, he might have even taken himself out…

    • skylog says:

that brings back memories. there was our one game last season.

    • UpstateDave says:

Yeah, I saw that too. It might have even made a difference, with Ramirez double-clutching on the throw. At least make the effort; that’s what you get paid for.

  53. EV says:

Someone said it best before the bottom of our lineup tonight, is pretty bad.

  54. dominicanboy08 says:

I dont understand how people keep defending schneider. we all know he is not an offensive catcher, but cmon he is never clutch and always kill the rallies

  55. BlueCapsOnly says:

    THERE IT IS HAMMER #1

  56. UpstateDave says:

Oooh…”Hammer” strikes out. Usually it’s “Hammer” who gets hits and “Willingham” who strikes out.

  57. BlueCapsOnly says:

    #2 and goodbye

  58. teufelshuffle86 says:

‘hammer’. God I can’t wait until I don’t have to listen to these jerkoffs.

Once again they refer to him as Josh Willingham when he strikes out. These guys are horrible.

    • gipper82475 says:

I think the Extra Innings people heard us – the have BOTH the SNY and the horrid FLA feed available tonight.

Of course, I am enjoying Gary and Keith.

  59. MetropolitanBaseball87 says:

WOW. looked like a bad call from the naked eye

  60. MetsFan4Decades says:

    YES !!
    Schneider redeems himself.

  61. Church4prez says:

    OUT!!!!!!

  62. ReyesMets says:

    Wow what an awful slide

  63. BlueCapsOnly says:

hmm, the way Pelf reacted to that up and in pitch, it didn’t seem like it was an accident

  64. Nightlife says:

    NICE.

The reactions of the Marlins announcers; PRICELESS.

  65. bigvito22 says:

    NICE TAG BRIAN!!!

  66. MetropolitanBaseball87 says:

“terrible slide…that’s the horrible slide that I HATE…IT STINKS!”

hahaha..this is why i love keith hernandez

  67. BlueCapsOnly says:

    Yeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssss!

  68. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    thank you dan uggla

  69. EV says:

Yea Big Pelf!!! Thanks for the TERRIBLE SLIDE Uggla

  70. Nightlife says:

Alright, nice defense, Pelf with a good comeback after giving up that hit.

  71. teufelshuffle86 says:

Good call. His leg completely missed the plate.

  72. Dafatone80 says:

I have to say, what is this hand tag the plate slide that all the kids are doing these days?

Run straight at the plate, slide straight into the plate, unless there’s a catcher blocking your way.

There’s almost no way that getting to the plate faster will hurt you.

    • skylog says:

i agree. i have seen david and jose do it, almost to a fault, but i have seen it work quite a few times. i think there may be a time and place for that slide, MAY, but it most cases going home, i would think you would want to me as agressive as possible

  73. BlueCapsOnly says:

Wow, first time the marlins guys weren’t homers on the call

    • skylog says:

as much as it is killing me to listen to them, they have been ok with regards to highlights and admitting a good play / call.

      • Tina says:

They’re not nearly so bad as some. They’re kind of charming, for a small market kind of thing. I don’t know why you’re all hating on them. They’re not GaryKeithandRon, but who is?

  74. skylog says:

ok, horrid slide (man, i wish i had the feed, i can hear keith now) but good throws by carlos and jose….and a nice get and tag by brian.

  75. EV says:

    DAMN

  76. Nightlife says:

    Bad luck.

  77. MetropolitanBaseball87 says:

jose has to back a lil better effort to get back there…NO?

  78. skylog says:

ok, this is really starting to get annoying.

  79. bigvito22 says:

    Nicely done Mike!!!

  80. ReyesMets says:

    Solid defensive play, Jose…

  81. EV says:

    Yea Big Pelf!!!!

  82. Church4prez says:

    MLBRUMORS
    # The Yankees have been getting calls on Carl Pavano. One unconfirmed rumor has the Mets interested.

    • skylog says:

as much as the thought sacres me to death, it would be hilarious if he came over and did awesome

  83. Darth Manuel says:

The fish don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to make a run at the WS. How does this trade make any sense. Would Manny’s contract carry over and the Marlins would have the two option years?

    • Church4prez says:

This deal is going down. Its going to happen. The fish have johnson, volstad, sanchez, olsen and miller

    • Darth Manuel says:

how could they afford him.. He’s going to be asking for at least a 4 year 80 million dollar contract

      • Church4prez says:

they dont care. They want to win now unlike the wilpons

        • BlueCapsOnly says:

The main reason why I don’t think the Marlins make this trade is the had basically the same player (Miguel Cabrerra) who was 10 years younger, just played a different position and let him go. Also, its just not the Marlin way, they don’t win by making big signings.

        • therealsince86 says:

Who cares, they have the toughest schedule in the majors in the 2nd half and (duh) had the easiest in the 1st half? It’s a rental, they will not resign him. Good for them.

        • RodKanehl says:

You’re right good for them for trying, but the schedule stuff is bull in baseball. Remember 10 months ago. The Mets couldn’t possibly blow the lead because they had such a soft schedule. WOOPS!

  84. EV says:

    Shoot

  85. teufelshuffle86 says:

How long did it take Tatis to get to tat ball? Jeez.

  86. UpstateDave says:

Mets need to stop squandering opportunities. They should be up by 3 here.

  87. bigvito22 says:

It’s ok Mike, keep it here!!!

  88. teufelshuffle86 says:

Marlins get a bloop RBI single. Shocker!

  89. therealsince86 says:

Which is why you can’t have Tatis in RF.

    • skylog says:

i understand he may have been shaded towards center, but watching it live i thought he fell down, twice, or something it took him so long to get there

  90. teufelshuffle86 says:

    another blooper by ‘hammer’.

  91. 911nafstem says:

I have never seen more bloops by one team in a series. Very frustrating

  92. skylog says:

if they are going to have another one of these bloop rallies, i may go insane.

  93. teufelshuffle86 says:

    need a DP here.

  94. skylog says:

how about some justice and a dp for them

  95. 911nafstem says:

oh boy, come on Pelf, get this out

  96. EV says:

    Yea Big Pelf!!!

  97. bigvito22 says:

Nice K Mike!!! Get out of this jam!!!

  98. therealsince86 says:

Pelfrey is due for a bad game, they can’t ALL be good.

  99. UpstateDave says:

    And he…got him!

  100. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Siddown Danny boy.

  101. 911nafstem says:

    Jacobs scares me against Pelfrey

  102. tatislover17 says:

UGH – Mets got Jay Payton for Willie Collazo per Baltimore paper

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

      Again?

    • Dafatone80 says:

      Really? Awesome!

I know Jay’s not actually any good. But he was one of my favorite players on the 2000 team. Don’t ask why, I have no idea.

    • therealsince86 says:

Well at least we did not give up anything or take on any salary for next season. Sounds like a good deal to me.

  103. Dafatone80 says:

The Marlins announcers are among the worst.

Just mentioned Nady as a Beltran-esque player, in that he was good for a while on small teams without anyone noticing..

Only difference being that, you know, Nady was in SD for about a year and a half and wasn’t all that good.

  104. teufelshuffle86 says:

A buddy of mine used to date Uggla’s sister. Jane Uggla is her name. She looked like Dan with long hair. Yowza!

  105. bringbackolerud5 says:

no way that Payton thing is true. no way.

  106. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Come on Big Pelf!!!!!

  107. 911nafstem says:

come on, don’t walk Cody freakin Ross

  108. Church4prez says:

    FIRE OMAR!!! THIS TEAM STINKS

  109. bringbackolerud5 says:

maybe he should have walked Cody “Freakin” Ross

  110. EV says:

    Shoot!!!!

  111. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    no mans land out there

  112. ReyesMets says:

    That hurts

  113. teufelshuffle86 says:

hearing this asswipe say ‘here comes hammer’ makes me want to start punching babies.

  114. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

u gotta be kidding. we are making this team look good

  115. therealsince86 says:

Tatis!!!!, LOL. We need Church back in RF and Tatis back in LF.

  116. EV says:

    This sucks.

  117. 911nafstem says:

hopefully the Nats are up to actually winning a game tonight

  118. MetsFan4Decades says:

Bottom of the order hitting, no less….

  119. lil pelf says:

this is tough to watch them hit pelfrey here.

  120. MetsFan1989 says:

wow come on pelf. hes given up shots now. warm some one up

  121. Church4prez says:

    keep doubting the marlins people.

  122. UpstateDave says:

    This doesn’t look good

  123. ReyesMets says:

Time to strap up the laces of our hitting boots…

  124. skylog says:

this game is ugly. again with the two out runs. well, it is going to take a whole lot to win this series now

  125. MetsFan1989 says:

rememebr that stat wehere pelfrey sucked agasint people when there r 2 outs. he needs to get a strike out pitch. you cant thorw ur fastball all the time

  126. gipper82475 says:

Ugh….this franchise has to start showing it can win big games…..which it hasn’t done from 06 through now.

  127. rj101592 says:

ohh yea, and this will only get worse if they add manny. Ughh!

  128. tatislover17 says:

Let’s hope Omar is talking his BROKEN ENGLISH on the phone right now.

“I need to make a deal for help, ya know what I saying?”

  129. metmania says:

    oh no not muniz

  130. therealsince86 says:

Wow that’s news to me. Marlins announcers said that Beltran plays a shallow CF. These guys are terrible.

  131. bigvito22 says:

    ugh COME ON MIKE

  132. skylog says:

this is what happens when you don’t hit into a double play with two men on and no outs

  133. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

big pelf is getting ripped apart

  134. ReyesMets says:

    This is getting ugly

  135. 911nafstem says:

sht, it’s just one of those games, oh well

  136. MetsFan1989 says:

yeah. u know u need a better pitch when a pitcher crushes ur fastball

  137. MetsFan4Decades says:

You have got to be kidding. The pitcher ?????

  138. MetropolitanBaseball87 says:

    WTF!

  139. Church4prez says:

Freakin marlins.this team sucks. Trade the farm

  140. DavidDog says:

looking like the pelfrey of old

  141. UpstateDave says:

You gotta be f-ing kidding me.

  142. tatislover17 says:

HOW MANY HUGE INNINGS CAN THIS TEAM NEVER BE ABLE TO STOP??????????????????

SHOW SOME FRIGGIN GUTS!! GET A HUGE OUT!!!!!

3 TIMES IN A LITTLE OVER A WEEK. PATHETIC

  143. metmania says:

These Flordia announcers suck…they force me to watch the game on mute

  144. Darth Manuel says:

Why isn’t schnieder calling anything other than fastballs. Nothing but fastballs every single pitch..

  145. Dafatone80 says:

    Damn. Time to start hitting.

Rain? Is that not a dome down there? In Florida?

  146. teufelshuffle86 says:

    jesus christ.

  147. therealsince86 says:

Guys, still a lot of game to be played. But if we lose, you do realize that the Marlins are a decent team and we are on the road. You can’t win every series on the road, especially against good teams. It is not the end of the world.

    • Nightlife says:

Gotta love how all the over reactionary idiots start to come out.

    • ReyesMets says:

100% agree. Part of the rigors of a 162 game season…

However, still plenty of game left to play

    • gipper82475 says:

Championship teams usually play about .500 on the road ….the Mets, …not so much.

      • therealsince86 says:

Have you seen the Cubs road record?

        • Nightlife says:

Kinda funny how we have a great home record this year, whereas the past 2 we were a better road team.

      • therealsince86 says:

In fact the only team that is leading the division with at least a .500 record on the road is the Angels.

        • gipper82475 says:

That is odd…I was talking historically.

That said, it is weird how the Mets had been so bad at home and goo don the road in recent years have flipped that this year….despite the whining of newbie fans about the booing at Shea.

        • therealsince86 says:

It has been linked to the abscence of greenies. Makes sense but I am not sure yet.

        • gipper82475 says:

Could be…especially for West Coast trips or a Mon road game after a late Sunday night ESPN game at home, etc.

  148. gipper82475 says:

Ugh. And Pelf returns to earth…..Maine is hobbled….Chuch doesn’t know his name…Pedro will get rocked on Friday and can only go 4 or so even if he isn’t…the bullpen is like playing Russian Roulette….our starting corner OFs on any given day may include people not even on the depth chart to start the year…..and Omar take a half day in the DR instead of working the phones.

    Typical.

  149. skylog says:

unreal. i hate to count them out, but i just don’t think they are going to pull this one out. what the !#$@ is with this team and not being able to stop the bleeding? hit after hit, runs? they keep giving up huge innings…without giving up home runs.

  150. DavidDog says:

if the payton rumor is true, then it’s just more evidence that deadline trades are BAD LUCK 4 this team… see zambrano, hidalgo etc

  151. MetsFan1989 says:

neither the marlins or the mets r world series contenders.

  152. rj101592 says:

Dont worry guys, well win it all when fmart and niese and parnell and carp and all our other untouchables are ready to come up.

  153. teufelshuffle86 says:

these asswipe announcers don’t deserve to call my slow-pitch softball games.

  154. Church4prez says:

Marlins are winning this division anyway. we have to hope for the WC

  155. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

do i see the baseball Gods pouring rain over miami?

  156. MetsFan1989 says:

    hanram hits a homer

  157. 911nafstem says:

you can’t expect Pelfrey to dominate every game, hopefully he’ll shake this performance off

  158. tatislover17 says:

Not bad for a team with a payroll of $22 million. That is what the Mets spent on Pedro and Alou this year.

  159. WrightsRight says:

awful inning…at least its early….in the game

  160. bigvito22 says:

This game is still young…frankly, even if our pen gets rocked the rest of the game, there are worse things that can happen the day before the deadline. That would really make Omar wake up

  161. mex84 says:

Wow! This game got fugly in a hurry. Our bats need to liven up and pick away.

  162. kd bart says:

It really doesn’t take much for some Met fans to turn on their team.

    JESUS CHRIST!!!!

    Talk about fair weather fans.

  163. WrightsRight says:

maybe we’ll have a rain out before the game is official….

  164. tatislover17 says:

Hmmmm, I wonder if the Phils will win their game against the Nats…..out of 1st again

  165. 911nafstem says:

how bout the Mets get a couple of bloops?

  166. metmania says:

Phils tie it up..greatttttttttt…this night gets better and better

  167. ReyesMets says:

    Another HR for Dunn…

I can’t believe nobody is biting on what essentially is a half year of Dunn for basically a nondescript prospect package. Simply amazing…

  168. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    pelfrey? gone already?

  169. losmets5 says:

I thought they sent Muniz down.

  170. metmania says:

This isnt the time of the season to try and get anderson going….he should be either playing well or off the team by now…oh and the phils are wining…good bye first place

  171. Nightlife says:

    Okay……

Kind of an odd move here by Manuel…

  172. MetsFan1989 says:

mets need to make a trade. just so marlon can not be on this team any more

    • metmania says:

get dunn….or anyone….sign lofton….anyone is a better option than marlon anderson…Ill even take Victor Zambrano out there

  173. MetsFan4Decades says:

Shades of second half of last year. The BP is never gonna hold up if the starters don’t go consistently late in the game…

  174. Bogar says:

Phils up 5-3 on Nats now. Still batting in the 5th.

  175. tatislover17 says:

The Phils BEAT the Nats……always……as they should. Only teams in the middle of the GREATEST COLLAPSE OF ALL TIME don’t beat the Nats……only the Mets lose 3 of 4 at HOME to the Nats this year……

  176. metmania says:

    7-3 now

    • therealsince86 says:

Who cares? We have to focus on playing good baseball. There is way too much time to be concerned about the Phillies winning a series against the Nats.

      • metmania says:

I care…because when the sweep the nationals like they well, then will be a full game out

        • therealsince86 says:

So, I still don’t get it. It won’t matter if we don’t play good baseball.

  177. BlueCapsOnly says:

I think Pelf was tipping his pitches tonight…he’s had problems with that in the past. That’s why he wore the mouthpiece. The TMJ thing was BS. He stopped using the mouthpiece because he would tip his pitches anyway by sticking the darn thing out of his mouth.

  178. Church4prez says:

Great night. Omar doesen;t care about winning and no more first place

  179. MetsFan1989 says:

    wtf he is IN

  180. Championmets says:

Is pelf hurt or was he taken out because he forgot how to pitch

    • MetsFan1989 says:

look at score. he was getting rocked

      • Championmets says:

I’m just wondering if our rotation was cut down to ollie and Johan

      • Nate W. says:

        He had one bad inning…

I dont know what would be worse, running Pelf back out there and hoping he would recover. Or Muniz, who will likely get knocked around even worse. Then there are 3 more innings for the already overworked guys to soak up.

  181. MetsFan1989 says:

OMG he covered first w/o losign his shoe

  182. Darth Manuel says:

This bullpen is going to be destroyed if Jerry continues to mange it this way.

    • therealsince86 says:

Could not have sent Pelfrey back out. Plus guy on 1st down 4 you let the pitcher bat?

  183. bigvito22 says:

As I said in last night’s thread:

Of the 54 games remaining after tonight, how do these 33 sound: 9 vs. Nats, 9 vs. Braves (the depleted Braves), 7 vs. Astros, 5 vs. Pirates, 3 vs. Padres

THOSE are the games where the 2008 Mets have to prove they aren’t the 2007 Mets…our 10 game streak came against bad teams

    • reyesnwright says:

Agree 100%. I was looking at the schedule today and thinking the same thing, and the Braves now are just about as bad as the Nationals. Just like last year, what is going to decide the division is what the Mets do against the bad teams, not loosing 2 out of 3 to a good team on the road for their first series loss all month…Let’s hope things turn out better this year.

      • bigvito22 says:

Exactly. The team needs to go on a tear there…all truly great teams are able to beat down on the bad teams. Go out there and win like 70-75% of those games. From there I’m sure the Fish will cool off later on and we have proven we can outplay the Phils.

Then we have a few games against the Brew Crew and Cubs (and if the Cubs go on a tear and clinch before they face us….that can be easy too).

    • kd bart says:

      First three were at Philly.

  184. mrosey says:

well either the Nats or us needs to have a four run comeback in order for us to stay atop the division. not a very good scenario. thank goodnees its still july

  185. mrose says:

are you serious? Johnson has 61 pitches through 5? Come on, what the heck happened to the hitting?

  186. teufelshuffle86 says:

Jerry throwing in the towel bringing this hack into the game.

    • BlueCapsOnly says:

I’m telling you he was tipping, you don’t give up double after double by missing spots.

      • MetsFan1989 says:

is it tipping when 95% of ur pitches r fastballs no. u jusut cant thorw fastball after FB u need something else

      • Darth Manuel says:

I was thinking that to,, Earlier in the game they showed a shot of Gonzo and Olsen talking about Pelfrey.. You could see them pointing at something..

The only problem with this is that he wasn’t even throwing his slider so.. Not sure if it even mattered

  187. jimyager says:

    KISS FIRST PLACE GOODBYE!!!

  188. JoseReyesForPresident says:

adam dunn just homered today….yea he strikes out alot but he hits homeruns like its nothing!! GET HIM ALREADY JEEZ

  189. Nate W. says:

with Pedro pitching the Mets next game they need to extend Muniz tonight and just consider this game a lost cause. Then send down Muniz and call up Figgy or someone else to be a long reliever in back of Pedro.

To bad they didnt keep Collazo instead.

    • therealsince86 says:

I agree about sending Muniz down after this for Vargas. He did well in the role before.

  190. MetsFan1989 says:

    what a Bit ch thorw by marlon;

  191. MetsFan4Decades says:

Haven’t seen Muniz have a 1-2-3 inning in like – never, maybe???

  192. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

marlins announcers are drooling over that willingham aka the damn hammer double/slide

  193. nobeers says:

Ive had a bad feeling about the bullpen since the first week of the season and at this point I really feel like its going to be the undoing of the team this year. Its really unfortunate too because so many players have stepped up to give this team a fantastic run but unless there is some amazing news tomorrow im going to be wearing my thick skin for the rest of the season.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I honestly don’t feel we have a bad bullpen – especially by comparison around the league. What we do have, is an overused BP, which ALWAYS spells trouble.

  194. Nightlife says:

For a second I thought Muniz might actually retire a side in order.

  195. dwright012 says:

Good bye 1st place.. make sure you stand pat at the dead line omar this team is obviously good enough the way it is

    • therealsince86 says:

Oh no, we should trade our entire farm for Bay or Holliday. We have to win this season and ONLY this season. This is the only season to matter. We can’t beat the Marlins in this division if we don’t trade everyone. Hell trade Reyes, we suck if we don’t trade, trade trade. Were going to Chicago and Washington and all the way to the White House, Ahhhhhhh.

      • dwright012 says:

That’s not what I said at all… when we trade Lastings for Schnedier and 57 games of Ryan Church, we’re winning now…

When we trade 4 guys for Johan we’re winning now….

But when we have a chance to realllllllly make a statement, we don’t do it

The Marlins are about to take 2 out of 3, send us back to 2nd, and add a HUGE bat

So yes, we need to make a move if we are supposed to win this year, as 90% of omar’s moves indicate

So get a life you jerk, people are allowed to have an opinion on this thing other then what Cerrone says

        • therealsince86 says:

So we should make a bad move because the Marlins added Manny and the Phillies added Blanton?

And obviously Omar knew that Church would only play 57 games. What is your point in the Milledge trade? He brought back to MLB starters that would be here for a few years.

What statement do we need to make, that we are retarded and traded our #2 prospect for friggin Raul Ibanez?

I have a life and I am a Jerk so it has not worked.

    • mrose says:

so, the team is about to lose its first series in like a month..and suddenly we suck? good logic

      • dwright012 says:

yeah cause that’s what I said… learn how to read first

        • mrose says:

pretty much is your logic dude…you are basically saying we have to have a trade because we are losing one series. Why don’t you read what you type first.

        • dwright012 says:

We’re not even 10 games above .500, that’s not gonna be good enough to beat out two other teams in our division

Has nothing to do with this series

        • mrose says:

i see what you are saying, but at the same time, is anyone else in our division 10 games over? We do play in a very competitive division. We have a winning record vs all our in division teams except the braves… We have obviously been playing MUCH better of late overall. There is an upside to this play of late
I just hate the idea of trading when nothing out there looks like the silver bullet (not to say it ever is)

        • therealsince86 says:

How were we in the lead if these other teams are so good?
Look at the Marlins schedule, they are going to need Manny and then some just to finish above .500 in the second half. They play the toughest schedule in the majors in the 2nd half.
          Phillies still can’t pitch.

        • mrose says:

is that true? toughest in the majors?

        • therealsince86 says:

Has to even out, their strength of schedule so far is 29th and that is with them playing some good teams since the break.

  196. teufelshuffle86 says:

yeah, this ‘hammer’ thing has gotten ridiculous. They absolutely do not call him Josh Willingham unless he strikes out. Somebody shoot me.

  197. Championmets says:

We need to trade sho for marcus thames and bring up a fresh eddie kunz

  198. teufelshuffle86 says:

    ‘hammer’ stranded at 2nd.

  199. kd bart says:

    PURE INSANITY!!!!!

  200. BlueCapsOnly says:

    lets go Jose!

  201. MetsFan4Decades says:

I’ll take a walk as a rally starter. Need base runners here.

Am I not mistaken in Johnson never won a game? Do we really need to be his first win?

    • reyesnwright says:

Just hasn’t won since 2006 (he was 12-7) but he’s only pitched 33 innings since then so…

  202. Arsenal13 says:

We better not be standing pat tomorrow..this team is not going to win the World Series. Playoffs maybe, but not a world championship calibr team

    • therealsince86 says:

Then we can have one next year. Get to the playoffs this season and see what happens. Who knows. Look at the Cardinals and Rockies.

  203. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Getting a couple of runs here would be nice…or at least not hitting into DP’s.

  204. BlueCapsOnly says:

    just what the doc ordered

  205. reyesnwright says:

Come on, let’s start getting these runs back little by little.

  206. BlueCapsOnly says:

be patient Argenis. The Marlins should have Cookie do the English broadcasts

  207. teufelshuffle86 says:

Let’s get at least one here.

  208. BlueCapsOnly says:

wait how did reyes gwet on second? did the marlins guys totally miss a steal?

  209. Arsenal13 says:

another wasted base runner…this is ridiculous

  210. gipper82475 says:

    Somebody wake up Wright.

  211. lil pelf says:

this is a very hard game to watch

    • Arsenal13 says:

this is a mirror image of us in the earlier part of the year…I usually have confidence in us coming back lately but I just don;t feel it tonight

  212. kd bart says:

I figure we’re about one inning away from the “this team just doesn’t care and plays with no fire” comments.

    • therealsince86 says:

It did not even take that long.

    • ReyesMets says:

True. It’s definitely coming next inning…”this team doesn’t play with any fire…”

      • therealsince86 says:

        It’s already happen, really.
“this is a mirror image of us in the earlier part of the year”

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      Which is just ludicrous.

    • Darth Manuel says:

Pelfrey needs an off speed pitch bad. He’s going to run into plenty of games like this and an off speed pitch thrown for a strike would do him wonders. Hopefully in the off season he can work on something..

  213. Darth Manuel says:

Is anybody alive out there tonight!!!!!!!

  214. BlueCapsOnly says:

C’mon big man, knock one out…pleaseeeeeee!

  215. kd bart says:

    I’m already too late.

  216. Championmets says:

If anyone cares niese has thrown 3 in shut out with 4 k’s and 1 walk, so far

  217. Nightlife says:

Gotta love this place, the first time the team probably drops a series in weeks and people are jumping off bridges.

    Never change Metsblog.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Not all of us. But I know what you mean…..

    • gipper82475 says:

What you “big picture” folks never seem to grasp is that THIS IS AN IN-GAME THREAD, where people are bound to be more emotional, living and dying with each pitch and venting about the twists and turns of a game – including doing so with enormous hyperbole.

If it were a thread about the overall, “big-picture” of the team and the pennant race, people would be far more reasonable in their comments – maybe expressing some concerns about the pen and corner OF spots, but generally more positive.

      • therealsince86 says:

In some ways you are right. But the comments of, Omar wants to lose, this team sucks, we can’t win with this team unless we trade Fmart. Those are not just emotional but plain retarded.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

There is a big difference between living and dying with each pitch and declaring the season lover in the forth inning tonight.

        Just saying….

        • gipper82475 says:

Agreed…and most of the commenters did not say such things, even if they were upset.

        • kd bart says:

You can get whiplash from the way people go back and forth from at bat to at bat and/or inning to inning. We love David Wright in the first. What wrong with him in the fourth.

        • therealsince86 says:

Are we reading the same blog?

        • Two-By-Four says:

That’s because some people are extremely emotional and can’t restrain themselves during a game. Buts lets be honest. If we were normal we wouldn’t waste all our time watching grown men play a children’s game and get upset about it. There are other things in life. But now back to the game. @#$%%$#@$^&^%$ :)

BTW Pelfrey was due for a bad outing.
The Marlins have good hitting team, particularly a great fastball hitting team.
It’s hard to make a living basically throwing just a fastball. On days when the fastball is not up to its normal quality Pelfrey has nothing else to turn to.

    • Arsenal13 says:

I’m certainly not saying that I don’t mind that we might lose the series I’m just saying tonight we look awful and that is fact

I just hate playing in Florida it is painful to watch games being played there can’t wait to move on to the next series

  218. MetsFan4Decades says:

Wow – 2 scoreless innings for Muniz.
    Where have you been, Carlos???

  219. bigvito22 says:

Nice job Muniz!!! COME ON OFFENSE!!!

  220. bkfitz says:

Marlon Anderson has no right being on the field.

BTW, love how the Nats just lay down like dogs against the Phillies. Can’t wait until we play them. Of course when they play us, they’ll play tough.

    • Darth Manuel says:

Looks like he has Vertigo.. He has no business being an outfielder..

    • therealsince86 says:

Maybe they are just not very good. They were down 2-0 and came back and scored 3 right away. Did not matter because then the Phillies had a big inning. They are for sure not “laying down”. Watch their game.

  221. Darth Manuel says:

Big Pelf needs an off speed pitch bad. He’s going to run into plenty of games like this and an off speed pitch thrown for a strike would do him wonders. Hopefully in the off season he can work on something..

  222. mrosey says:

Alright. I feel good about this inning. Come on Marlon.

  223. gipper82475 says:

    C’mon now….capitalize on this!

    Oh…Schneider….nevermind.

  224. ReyesMets says:

What is the point of carrying three catchers if we don’t pinch hit for Schneider here?

  225. hi5wright says:

    Schneinder GIDP?

  226. Arsenal13 says:

Hate to sound negative but I see no reason to believe in Schneider here

  227. gipper82475 says:

    Well, he didn’t GIDP…good job!

  228. ReyesMets says:

    okay…that was NOT a strike

  229. Championmets says:

Jacobs is out of the lineup, trade maybe

  230. bigvito22 says:

That does it…….I want fines issued out everytime someone take strike 3 looking. I’m all for working out a walk, but this is getting ridiculous.

  231. mrosey says:

Where did that catch the plate. Schneider needs to get the bat off his shoulder but that looked like ball 4 to me.

  232. mrose says:

anyone else hear the jacka$$ who is obviously near a mic? I can’t understand what hes saying, but hes obnoxious

    • Arsenal13 says:

Yea that guy it a tool he needs to shut up

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Same thing happened last night, except the guy shut up after the Mets took the lead. Pretty sure he’s ginna stick around until this one is oner.

    • anonymii says:

Heard him yelling that Delgado was on deck earlier in the game. Think he was there last night too.

  233. bigvito22 says:

    DAMION!!!

  234. mrose says:

    EASLEY!!!!!!!

  235. mrosey says:

    Gary Cohen does it again!

  236. ReyesMets says:

    THATTA BOY, DAMION!!!

  237. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Damion is the MAN !!

    Woo-Hoo !!!

    It ain’t over ’till it’s over…..

  238. Nightlife says:

    D-EASY!

THIS TEAM SUCKS TRADE EM ALL.

  239. therealsince86 says:

These Mets have no heart and play lifeless without fire.

  240. kd bart says:

Those who basically quit on this game 2 innings ago should not post. You have not earned it.

    • Darth Manuel says:

Matt should have a “Benched” button.. lose you posting abilities until after the game..

      • therealsince86 says:

I don’t know, I would eventually miss laughing at C4P. He’s no stiff. He has been to October and has a ring. He is CLUTCH.

  241. Darth Manuel says:

Garry called that one.. Way to go Easy

  242. anonymii says:

Man, Damion doesn’t hit many but you can just feel when he’s going to.

  243. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

carlos muniz takin out of the game?

    trade?

  244. teufelshuffle86 says:

That jackoff is still running his mouth.

  245. EV says:

    Yea Damon!!!!!!!!!! Luis who?

  246. teufelshuffle86 says:

‘When you need a car…..truck or van…….who ya gonna call???’

  247. AzMetsFan says:

Wow, Unbelievable how Gary just so accuratly called that HR, placement and everything. Nice Shot Damion! Go Mets!!!! I hate these Fish

  248. ReyesMets says:

If Reyes makes an out here, get ready for the “Reyes can’t hit in a big spot” comments

  249. dwright57 says:

reyes never gets a big hit

  250. mrose says:

wow, boston is crashing and burning

  251. bigvito22 says:

    Come on Duaner!!!

  252. teufelshuffle86 says:

Jerry should imply the Doc Brown ‘next time you do that you owe me 20 push ups’ law with Reyes. He would have had to do 20 pushups right there in front of everybody.

  253. bigvito22 says:

Nice job Duaner!!! Let’s go offense!!!

  254. ReyesMets says:

Solid inning, Duaner. Let’s do this right now!

    ::Good Vibes::

  255. teufelshuffle86 says:

Sanchez still only hitting 89 on the gun with his fastball. Not good.

  256. therealsince86 says:

Now, lets go get the lead back this inning. It should be our best chance.

  257. mrosey says:

I know this is a little late. But from all the comments you guys have been making when I saw the Easley home run clip from Sun Sports on Gameday I was expecting them to say “and Damion the Hammer Easley cranks one out.”

Let’s go Mets. Reyes. Wright. Delgado. Load it up for Beltran.

  258. 911nafstem says:

Can the Nats just be demoted to AAA?

  259. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

im dont with marlin announcers. ” can i say a. reyes because if i say argenis im scared someone might email us” r u kidding me?

  260. 911nafstem says:

all I’ve heard is how awful the Marlins pitching is, well, let’s see it

  261. Arsenal13 says:

    Here’s our money player…come on D Wright

  262. therealsince86 says:

Reyes is a poor man’s Ruben Gotay. He will not be an impact player at all just like Gotay. The more he plays the worse he will get.

  263. 911nafstem says:

    swing the bat David!

  264. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on, David. You’re due here. Get on base.

  265. mrose says:

    wright seems off

  266. 911nafstem says:

just once can David get ahead in the count? is it possible?

  267. Arsenal13 says:

Ahh he can’t keep on getting behind 0-2

If he’s ahead in the count he will just start to rake

  268. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

we could use manny in this situation? at least he might put the ball in play

  269. therealsince86 says:

Anyone think that with Delgado hitting and Tatis and Easley that it may be time to move Beltan to the 2 spot?

    • mrose says:

i think most of us have been saying that…for a while

      • therealsince86 says:

I did not want to do it, but now with the bottom of the lineup doing well and Beltran not so much, I think it would be a good time to do it. Then just leave him there when Church comes back.
Reyes, Beltran, Wright, Delgado, Tatis, Church, Easley, Schnieder/Castro
Switch Tatis and Church vs RH.

  270. Andrew says:

Unrelated: Check out the lineup the Braves are fielding today: Gregor Blanco, Yunel Escobar, Casey Kotchman, Gale Norton (CLEANUP!?), Omar Infante, Kelly Johnson, Jeff Francoeur, Corky Miller.

    That is ALL-TIME bad.

  271. mrose says:

it feels like this ump is giving the marlins all the strike calls….ALL SERIES

  272. 911nafstem says:

it’s unreal how that Mets make other teams bullpens look spectacular

  273. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Mr. Clutch!

  274. tatislover17 says:

David Wright in a clutch spot, you knew that was coming. Then he gets his “I’m gonna cry” face on.

  275. ReyesMets says:

    just missed…

  276. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    r u kidding? what a terrible camera 4 fsfl

    • imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

they have the camera on the right fielder and all i see is him stop moving then all of a sudden they show the cf catching the ball. good job fox sports florida

  277. 911nafstem says:

    this loss would be painful

  278. hi5wright says:

    :( :(

  279. khmustache says:

    so close…

  280. Arsenal13 says:

Damn just missed it…maybe Beltran can start his hot streak next inning?

  281. teufelshuffle86 says:

Anybody else feel like Wright looks at too many pitches? Seems to me like he always gets a first pitch fastball right down the pipe that he just looks at. While I like patience at the plate, I think Wright would be a guy who would benefit from being more aggressive.

    • metsfan42793 says:

david wright pisses me off so much

    • 911nafstem says:

      yes, I definitely feel that

    • skylog says:

he has been doing this all season, and it has been driving me nuts. he continues to let great pitches go by, and then he ends up swinging at crap. it is hard to get on him, given his 290/20/83 and a lot of walks…….but, he has been striking out quite a bit and, as we know, leads the team in dps.

  282. bigvito22 says:

Ugh he hits it to the one damn corner it wouldn’t go out

  283. metsfan42793 says:

i can’t stand david wright. he doesnt do anything in clutch oppurtunities. has anyone noticed that most of david wrights homeruns are solo. also in the first inning he just had to ground in a double play. how about hitting a single david. he gets me so angry.

  284. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

can someone say adam dunn 2 hr’s tonight?

  285. tatislover17 says:

Honest question here…..other than the big homer in Cincy, has Wright had what you would consider one other HUGE HR this year?

  286. teufelshuffle86 says:

I had my all caps DELGADO ready to hit ‘add comment’. I’m pretty sure U wasn’t the only one.

  287. 911nafstem says:

This game highlights the need for the Mets to get a real 2 hitter. You can only have a 8th hitter batting 2 for so long. It’s a huge hole in the middle of what should be a strong part of the lineup.

    • therealsince86 says:

At this point with Castillo out you have to move Beltran there. This is a perfect example of why OBP matters for a #2 hitter.

  288. ReyesMets says:

and a 2nd HR for Dunn tonight…still nobody huh? The 2 million for the rest of the year and the 2 draft picks next year if he walks are not worth it, hmmm??

    • therealsince86 says:

Obviously they are. I have no idea why we are not on this unless the cost is just too much.
Parnell, Evans and a prospect should be enough.

  289. tatislover17 says:

Adam Dunn has .242, 32, 74 and an OBP of .387. How is this guy not under consideration???? Ok, he K’s a lot. So does Wright.

    • AzMetsFan says:

Was Dunn traded? I thought I heard Cohen say Dunn hit his last HR in a Cincy Uniform?

  290. bigvito22 says:

    Come on Joe!!!

  291. mrose says:

you have to be kidding, the first and last pitch to willingham would have been strikes for the marlins pitchers
    ugh

  292. bigvito22 says:

Time to send down Joe…sorry man but the league has caught up with you.

    Joe down, Kunz up!

  293. 911nafstem says:

This game has won me over to the fact that the Mets need to get Adam Dunn and move Beltran to 2. Give them Niese for gods sake, it’s not like he’s a surefire ace

  294. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Good God….

Gary ‘What Joe needs here is a ground ball’
    Next pitch, out.

  295. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

we need more than manny or dunn. we need a bullpen

  296. Church4prez says:

THIS TEAM SUCKS!! IF OMAR DOES NOT MAKE A TRADE, HE MUST BE FIRED IMMEADEATLEY!!!!!!!!

  297. Championmets says:

Hey check MLB Trade rumors, this deal is going to happen possibly with lowrie and wilson

  298. el_giacomo says:

    damn.

  299. kd bart says:

Alber t Pujols went 0-5 with 3Ks in a game against the Mets last weekend. I guess he’s also a bum.

  300. Darth Manuel says:

Can someone explain to me how this works.

If the Red Sox don’t trade Manny and don’t pick up his option will they still get Draft picks when another team signs him?

  301. adam900 says:

Joe Smith is ****en horrible. Get rid of him already.

  302. MetsFan1989 says:

send down joe smith. once again he tires through the season.

  303. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

if manny goes to florida. i pray someone is about to board a plane to houston

  304. teufelshuffle86 says:

I would love to see the Mets record when a starter goes at least 6 innings and their record when they don’t. I’ll bet ther results would be staggering.

  305. 911nafstem says:

do the Mets play the Nats anytime soon?

  306. therealsince86 says:

I can’t stand these announcers, good lord.

  307. tatislover17 says:

Just get Chad Bradford back. He was great here in 06 and keeps it up all year, unlike Joe “AA” Smith

  308. MetsFan1989 says:

LMFAO got to like the music. yeah kiss his butt good bye

  309. MetsFan4Decades says:

And the bullpen musical chairs begins.

Lately, either we use no one out of the bullpen – save Wags, or we see everyone in the game.

  310. WrightsRight says:

SOS…. A little help please….a little bullpen help…PLEASE!!!! Hurry up!!!

  311. teufelshuffle86 says:

Well at least our ’stopper’ Feliciano is in to clean up this mess.

  312. WrightsRight says:

This bullpen is way too inconsistent…either they’re lights out, or they’re giving up 4, 5, 6 runs….completely unreliable.

  313. stickguy says:

Yeah, Smith seems to have hit the wall again.

What the heck was up with Pelfrey? Just not sharp? I assume he was leaving balls over the fat part, since he didn’t walk anyone.

Still, poor time for Smith to give back the runs, although it was nice to see Muniz get the job done for 2 innings. So prertty much like Pelf going 6!

  314. Darth Manuel says:

Where is Jorge Sosa!! I kid,,

  315. MetsFan1989 says:

adam dunn suckks ladies and gents. 2 homeruns. and 32 on the year. ugh how bad he is and how bad he is not needed.

  316. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

i would cry if the sox, pirates and marlins officially have a deal ready and manny says sorry i dont want to go to the marlins

  317. tatislover17 says:

I just heard the Mets were close to a couple trades but the other team’s GM’s could not understand Omar on the phone. They have called for an interpreter who is fluent in “broken english” and then the mets may be able to seal these deals.

  318. playmaker3128 says:

I think its pretty clear that bullpen help needs to be our number 1 option. Forget getting an outfielder, this is not a playoff caliber bullpen. When were down in games and come back and close the gap, they just give up more runs. Twice in the last week theyve given up at least 4 runs on 4 straight hits without recording an out (philly and the first florida game in this series).

The bullpen hasn’t been bad this year, but we absolutely have to fine a way to bridge the gap to wagner, or at least be able to keep the game close.

  319. teufelshuffle86 says:

Only need a solo HR to tie it u…..oh wait, joe smith came in and pitched an inning…nevermind.

  320. Darth Manuel says:

Matt holiday and Fuentes for the entire minor league system

    • therealsince86 says:

LOL, like losing much in the future?

      • gipper82475 says:

It’s been 22 years since a title….for the right couple of impact players, I’d mortgage 11 years (half as long as we’ve been in the wilderness) of the future for a title this year.

        • therealsince86 says:

I don’t want to be the Marlins, however. To once every ten years be good and suck every other year.
If we can get an impact bat without selling the entire farm so be it. Manny is not that guy as he is old and a rental. Ibanez sure the hell is not that guy.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

      try and give em beltran

  321. MetsFan1989 says:

beltran is the defininition of NON CLUTCH

  322. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    beltran for manny. any takers?

  323. Church4prez says:

This team blows and ownership does not even care.

  324. tatislover17 says:

Carlos Beltran is a VERY GOOD player. He is not an elite player, he is only payed like one.

    • therealsince86 says:

He is paid as the best CF in the game and that he is.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

hes a GOOD player not a ver good player. u think he would have this contract if it wasnt for 2 hot weeks in the playoffs

  325. tatislover17 says:

Say what you want about the Yankees, at least they try. They spend the money, fine. But at least they have made moves this week to shore up their problem areas.

  326. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

kevin gregg, the next mariano? we sure are making it out like that

  327. tatislover17 says:

I can’t wait to hear Omar “You know what I sayin?” Minaya on the FAN this week with all his excuses.

    • khmustache says:

dude, give it a rest, this might be the first lost series against a very good team in a month.

  328. skylog says:

    tatis lover:

you are on a roll with those last two.

on to houston, let’s see if anything gets done.

  329. Hubie says:

Anyone on here still think the Marlins have no starting pitching and are going to fold up like an accordion?

  330. MetsFan4Decades says:

Not that it matters at this point – but what ????

  331. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    ok , quick opinions

odds brad lidge blows his first save tonight

    i say 10%

  332. teufelshuffle86 says:

Again these announcers mocking Met fans for leaving. Not a peep out of these asswipes last night when Marlin fans were leaving in the 7th, that is the fans that even showed up to the game in the first place.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Meant to say Marlin fans leaving in the 7th last night.

    • therealsince86 says:

Yeah but there used to that either way. The Marlins fans are so old that they never stay the entire game.

  333. meatloaf says:

I think it’s time to get on Jerry Manuel a bit. When he took over one of his big things was “roles” for the bullpen guys. WTF is he doing then? Hmmmm, I’ll bring in my 8th inning guy in the 7th down one and then bring in Joe Smith (who by the way is a situational righty who is completely overexposed) to pitch the 8th b/c Heilman is unavailable after pitching 2 innings last night. WTF is this guy doing? They are now in 2nd place and need a bat and a bullpen guy. I’m all about the young guys but I want to win NOW, not in 2011. This team can not win as constructed and if I see Marlin (I know) Anderson in the lineup again I am concentrating on footbal season.

    • Hubie says:

Marlon had 2 hits tonight and has a decent stick overall. He certainly is capable of putting together a nice run.

      • meatloaf says:

Please do not tell me you are defending Marlon as a starter. He had 2 meaningless singles and when he hits 7th followed by the ever useless Schneider and the pitcher it’s like they have 6 guys vs. 9. Come on. I understand being optimistic but that makes no sense

  334. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    on selig’s desk reportedly

Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow

  335. Championmets says:

the deal for manny is done

  336. Darth Manuel says:

We should start a Oliver Perez drinking game.. Every time he says “Making Pitches” in a post game interview we need to take a shot..

  337. KL15 says:

“Come see my Amazing Mets. Every day I show up I see ways to lose I never knew existed.” Casey Stengel

  338. teufelshuffle86 says:

    Let Castro hit Here!!!!

  339. mrosey says:

    pinch run Johan?

  340. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

thank you for at least trying not to make gregg look good. reyes needs to step up BIG time here

  341. Nate W. says:

Duaner Sanchez threw 9 pitches in a relatively easy 7th inning and was pulled in favor of Joe Smith without being PH for…

    why?!?

if Dauner cant throw 2 innings at a time then he should go back to St. Lucie and rehab his arm up to minimal strength.

If he was pulled in favor of the constantly as of late blowing games Joe Smith, then he should probably be DFA…

Is Dauner useful or not, Jerry?

  342. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Castro comes through.

And Marlon can barely run. That hamstring is just not healing……

  343. Arsenal13 says:

The site of Marlon Anderson turning the bases just cracks me up

  344. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

lead off double langerhans maybe rally time in the capital

  345. almar1965 says:

All this talk about the Mets needing another OFer, forget that. They are in serious need of bullpen help. No amount of Manny Ramirez’s will make this team WS caliber if their bullpen continues to either crap themselves or put close games out of reach.

  346. therealsince86 says:

If I were them I would have some balls and walk Reyes. I know what it puts on the bases but why would you face one Reyes if you could face Ruben Gotay JR.

  347. kd bart says:

But we play with no heart and fire.

  348. MetsFan1989 says:

pop up to the left side anyone think so too?

  349. mrose says:

    whyyy reyes
    2 strike hole?

  350. teufelshuffle86 says:

    TAKE A PITCH REYES!!!!

If he pops up here I am going to hang myself.

  351. Church4prez says:

THIS TEAM SUCKS. THEY HAVE NO PEN AND NO OUTFIELD!!!!!!! WHERE ARE ALL OF YOU TATIS LOVERS?? HE IS CRASHING BACK DOWN TO EARTH NOW TOO!! BRING UP THE HALL OF FAMERS PARNELL AND NEISE AND KUNZ AND MURPHY AND F MART!! FIRE OMAR!!!

  352. MetsFan1989 says:

typical reyes out in the clutch

  353. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Oh, Damn. Nice try though….

  354. mrosey says:

Insert your Jose Reyes can’t hit in the clutch sarcastic comment here:

  355. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

marlin announcers sound like they just won the world series

  356. almar1965 says:

Well, the craptastic bullpen blew this three game series.

This bullpen crew is not going to cut it Omar. Forget your wet dreams of Manny.

    B-U-L-L-P-E-N!

  357. teufelshuffle86 says:

The worst part is that ‘hamer’ caught the last out.

Hats off to Joe Smith for keeping it close.

  358. kd bart says:

    SEASON’S OVER!!!!

    We’ll never see first again.

  359. imtiredofguiseppefranco says:

    phillies in first folks

    • therealsince86 says:

Oh, no. Phillies are a .5 game up while playing the Nats as we play the Marlins in Miami. Season’s over. Pack it up boys.

    • almar1965 says:

Any takers on the day the Phillies fall back out of first? I say Friday.

It’s going to be like this all year folks. And apparently a lot of you don’t have the stomach or the marbles for this.

  360. rj101592 says:

Look on the bright side, now in august when were in 3rd place the marlins and phils wont be able to block someone off the waiver wire

  361. skylog says:

say what you want, but reyes and the BOTTOM of the order kept them in this game. if you want to look at another reason (other than why sanchez was lifted and not pinch hit for, and smith’s implosion) look at the 3,4,5,6 hitters…….1 for 15

  362. almar1965 says:

Well, they can always call up a bullpen arm or an actual outfielder from their farm system,…Oh wait! They have no depth in their system.

Wasn’t that going to be one of Omar’s strength when he stood on that podium after he was hired?

  363. MetsFan1989 says:

david wright in the 8th inning. that first pitch from joe nelson 2 years ago was a homerun to opposite feild. now he is too pull heavy…

  364. meatloaf says:

Talk about going for it. The Marlins get Manny and the Mets roll with a corner OF of Tatis and Church (and that’s a best case scenario). Why is Churc all of a sudden the second coming. He has been mediocre his entire career until recently. Now he is going to come back and save the Mets? I just threw up. They suck. Yes one loss and they suck.

    • therealsince86 says:

LOL, your name is meatloaf and you just threw up. Fitting.
As for Church, is he an up grade over Endy Chavez, Anderson, Evans? If so then yes he is a nice pickup.

      • meatloaf says:

My question is does an upgrade over the aforementioned Evans, Chavez, Anderson make this team THAT much better? Chavez has played well. Look. I just hope Church gets healthy and plays in the 2nd half like he did in the first. He can be key but banking on his health and/or results is risky.

    • kd bart says:

That’s because the Marlins have an abundance of prospects that they’ve accumulated through the draft and trades over the past few years from which to trade for a rent a player. The Mets don’t have that kind of depth in thie farm system and will not sacrifice their top two or three prospects to rent Manny for two months and I don’t blame them. They use most of their depth to obtain Santana.

  365. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

    BOO-YAH

JUST like I said on Sunday…..Mutts will lose the Marlin series….
    CHOKERS AGAIN

FIRST PLACE IN THE NL EAST????

    PHILLLLLIIEEESSS!!!

    • rj101592 says:

you must feel real proud of your self, beatn the nats, congratz!

      • Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

You mean like the big bad MUTTS beatin up on the Giants??

You play your schedule thats all you can do…..

        PHILLIES YEAH!

        • skylog says:

indeed, and the mets have an easy run in the second half. it is just too bad they don’t play the phillies any more….could have used some of those wins.

        • kd bart says:

And over the next two weeks, the Phillies play the Cards, the Marlins and travel to the West Coast while the Mets play the Nats and the Padres among others.

        • MetsFan1989 says:

i mean congrats on beating a crappy team philly fan. but met fans come on we cant talk.. we lost to the nats……

        • skylog says:

going into this series, the phillies were 3-3 versus the nats. they just happened to run into them while they are in the middle of their worst stretch of the season. before tonight, they scored 10 runs in their last 9 games.

    • teufelshuffle86 says:

Missed you last night. I’ll bet you had a big ’stock market guy’ meeting or something.

    • almar1965 says:

And they will fall back out of first as fast as they got there. I say by this weekend.

It’s going to be like this all year.

    • therealsince86 says:

It must be sad not to have your own blog. You are welcome here anytime. Come on in. Meatloaf is being served.

    • skylog says:

and i am sure you would have shown up had they not? not likely. i am still waiting for your beerleaguer id? but you have not responded to one of my comments yet……but since you are feeling all cocky now, i am hoping this will be the first.

phillies are in first. i will talk to you on september 31…

    • KL15 says:

Son, when the Philadelphia Phillies are bounced out of the playoffs again in the first round AGAIN are you going to get on here and talk about that? I didn’t think so. The Phillies have no pitching and no pitching means no playoff wins. Have a good rest of the season, and try not to kill yourself once you realize that when the Phillies meet a team with good pitching (Mets, Cubs, Brewers) they go down where we all know there so good.

      • Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

Phillies in 1st place thats all I know and you have Santana and we have Blanton

        D’OH!!!!

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

‘you have Santana and we have Blanton’
Enough said. That about sums it up.

Still asking: how old are you?
You have no reading comprehension, can’t spell, no writing skills. All I can say is – stay in school, son. Repeat a grade if you have to.

        • skylog says:

that does not even make sense. why would you compare santana to blanton? you have chase utley, we have no one at second. see, that is dumb.

        • almar1965 says:

Exactly. I mean the Mets have Reyes, the Phillies have no one at SS. Or at least no one that shows up.

  366. Darth Manuel says:

Well it looks like we are going to sit around and watch every single team we’re competing with make a move.

    Holiday and Fuentes for

    FMart
    Neise
    Carp
    Parnell

    would you do it?

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

IF the marlins do in fact get manny, yes.

      • therealsince86 says:

How does he help them that much? They will still have to play the toughest schedule in the majors the rest of the way with terrible defense and average to below average pitching.

    • therealsince86 says:

No way, Fuentes is a rental and Holliday would just be average in Shea.
That’s our #1, 2, 3 and another prospect. If it were Fmart/Niese, Parnell, Carp and an A ball guy then yes.

  367. bigvito22 says:

Even in defeat, this is encouraging…for the following reasons:

    1. They stayed alive even through pretty big deficits
    2. Muniz didn’t look horrible
    3. Nor did Sanchez
    4. Smith did…but with his struggles I think the front office knows they NEED to make a bullpen move

Here we go…54 games to go, 33 against crappy teams….time to make a statement

  368. Championmets says:

only good part of the day – niese 7 ip 7 k’s 2 bb 1 er

  369. mrosey says:

I can’t believe you guys can get so down on this team already. This is our first series loss since Interleague play. And for all the Bullpen bashers. It allowed just 2 runs on 3 hits in four innings. Smith wasn’t too great tonight but who’s fault is it for leaving him in that long (Jerry cough cough). Let’s get back on track against beatable Houston and San Diego clubs.

  370. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

“Even in defeat, this is encouraging…for the following reasons”

    LMAO….

    Mutts = chokers

    • skylog says:

talk to me when you a win a playoff game this decade……..

besides, i am sure comments like that never, never, are said my phillies fans on their blogs. no. never. but you would not know anything about that would you.

i actually think you don’t even like the phillies.

    • KL15 says:

      Phildelphia Phillies:

      New York Mets:

      Pennants: 4
      World Championships: 2

It seems to me son that the New York Mets have as many NL Pennants and twice the World Titiles in less than half the time. Now go have some cookies and milk and go to sleep.

Yes, and the Phillies did swimmingly well in the playoffs last season.

      10K losses and counting….

  371. dominicanboy08 says:

    oh no look at this:

Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow

    mets better do something!!!

    • almar1965 says:

I think the Red Sox are punishing Manny if they send him to play in front of 10,000 people in the swamp heat of Florida.

Manny is all about putting on a show for throngs of fans.

    • KL15 says:

NO THEY SHOULDN’T! This season is a wash. Look I don’t like saying that either but it’s the facts. I would rather build for the next 5 years than blow it all out on this one.

      • almar1965 says:

The Mets are .5 games out of first in a division that is wiiiiiiiide open and you say the season is a wash?

Proof that he internet is the worst thing to have happened to sports arguments in the last 10 years.

      • dominicanboy08 says:

this season is a wash? we are .5 back!!!!!

        • KL15 says:

I hope I’m wrong. If I am, as I’ve stated man times on this blog, you’re welcome to beat on me untill your hearts content.

    • fongulalou says:

Bad,bad night to be a fanatic!–Manny finally leaves Boston-
-(no more haunting the yanks)-Goes to a division rival,
yanks make yet another deal to fill a hole w/o giving up
much, markets getting thinner makind demands higher–
And Pelphrey looks like Pelphrey again while the Bullpen
is still terrible!–Ahh the Misery! Too many of these nights
      the last 35 years!

      • almar1965 says:

Pelfrey will be fine. He is allowed to have a bad start.

But the bullpen crap themselves again tonight. And there is nothing out there worth parting with young talent in the minors. THAT is the problem.

      • SuicideWatch says:

        Is this Boston-Florida-Pitt thing confirmed?

    • kd bart says:

Manny in that big outfield will be an adventure.

    • mylegshurt says:

There’s virtually no shot that the Mets will pull off anything that will make a big difference. Since F-Mart (aka Babe Ruth) and Niese are off limits, there’s nothing to discuss.

Bigger concern is team morale if Marlins get Manny and Mets get zilch. As shown last year, this team lapses into self-pity too easily.

      • WrightsRight says:

guarantee you FMart breaks his wrist in a bar fight tomorrow, Niese hurts his elbow and needs Tommy John and Kunze admits to a drug problem and ends up in rehab…all by midnight tomorrow…

  372. Darth Manuel says:

I seriously feel dejected right now.. I know I shouldn’t but I do. We have the starting pitching to contend for a WS but lack one big bat and a reliever and it seems like we aren’t going to address either.

    • almar1965 says:

Hitting is not the dire issue. The bullpen is. But nothing is out there. I say bring Niese up and stick him in the bullpen and see if he sticks. Couldn’t hurt and he is certainly better than Muniz.

      • SuicideWatch says:

Niese is a starter, let him start and get innings in AAA, bring up Kunz.

        • almar1965 says:

I know Niese is a starter. The point is to slot him into long relief of which the Mets have NONE.

    • KL15 says:

The prospects just arent there to trade. It was a gamble worth taking to do what had to be done to get Johan Santana. But if it didn’t work out this was going to be the result.

    • SuicideWatch says:

I don’t know, it seems like we would be buying real high in this trade market.

Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.

  373. KL15 says:

I’m not trying to anger everyone here. I would just like to see the Mets build out of the farm system for a change. I really don’t want this team to turn into the Yankees light.

    • SuicideWatch says:

      AGREED!

      • KL15 says:

BTW I love your line about Neise being the next Jerry Koosman. The way I see it is, Oliver Perez is a free agent after this season. I have a feeling that he is going to want a kings ransom. So let him go and plug John Neise into that spot. How much money did you save there?. Call up some of these guys up. I dont want to see the top prospects babied like Lastings Milledge.

    • almar1965 says:

I understand that. And I think most of us want to see that happen as well. If they were 6-7 games out, okay perhaps, but .5 out when they have a soft schedule in the second half?

Not saying to mortgage the farm, but if they can address their bullpen. But as I said before, nothing is out there so they may just have to sit this deadline out. But by no means is the season a wash like you said. That’s absurd.

      • KL15 says:

OK how about this. I’m not sure about John Neise because he’s a lefty, I honestly would rather trade Oliver Perez since he’s a free agent at seasons end. But if you do not trade anyone, Put Neise in the rotation and put Maine in the pen. He seems to be a natural reliever since he can’t pitch long into a game. Do you think that would help the bullpen?

        • almar1965 says:

At this point anything will help. Trading Ollie though is not an option. He seems to have figured things out (or should I say Warthen has). You cannot weaken your strength like that. Not with Pedro’s back and forth DL stints.

        • KL15 says:

I just threw that out as a possibility. I would rather see John Niese called up and put John Maine in the pen. Or make John Niese a long reliever.. But you CAN NOT trade this guy. Dare I say it would kill the future.

  374. SuicideWatch says:

Can someone please tell me why for the second time in a week Sanchez pitched the 7th and Joe Smith blew the 8th???

  375. SuicideWatch says:

    Is this Boston-Florida-Pitt thing confirmed???

  376. mylegshurt says:

The Nationals have a few decent arms in their pen, and the team is hideous — not too proud to trade within the division. Problem is overall state of franchise — the new stadium is okay but fan support is sort of at a critical point now — not a good time to go 50-112.
