My question is does an upgrade over the aforementioned Evans, Chavez, Anderson make this team THAT much better? Chavez has played well. Look. I just hope Church gets healthy and plays in the 2nd half like he did in the first. He can be key but banking on his health and/or results is risky.

The Nationals have a few decent arms in their pen, and the team is hideous — not too proud to trade within the division. Problem is overall state of franchise — the new stadium is okay but fan support is sort of at a critical point now — not a good time to go 50-112.

I just threw that out as a possibility. I would rather see John Niese called up and put John Maine in the pen. Or make John Niese a long reliever.. But you CAN NOT trade this guy. Dare I say it would kill the future.

At this point anything will help. Trading Ollie though is not an option. He seems to have figured things out (or should I say Warthen has). You cannot weaken your strength like that. Not with Pedro’s back and forth DL stints.

OK how about this. I’m not sure about John Neise because he’s a lefty, I honestly would rather trade Oliver Perez since he’s a free agent at seasons end. But if you do not trade anyone, Put Neise in the rotation and put Maine in the pen. He seems to be a natural reliever since he can’t pitch long into a game. Do you think that would help the bullpen?

BTW I love your line about Neise being the next Jerry Koosman. The way I see it is, Oliver Perez is a free agent after this season. I have a feeling that he is going to want a kings ransom. So let him go and plug John Neise into that spot. How much money did you save there?. Call up some of these guys up. I dont want to see the top prospects babied like Lastings Milledge.

There’s virtually no shot that the Mets will pull off anything that will make a big difference. Since F-Mart (aka Babe Ruth) and Niese are off limits, there’s nothing to discuss.

Bigger concern is team morale if Marlins get Manny and Mets get zilch. As shown last year, this team lapses into self-pity too easily.
