Health: Castillo to Start Rehab Assignment
By Matthew Cerrone - Jul 31, 2008 7:05 am

Prior to yesterday’s game, Jerry Manuel told reporters that Luis Castillo is still working out in Port St. Lucie, he’ll begin a minor-league rehab assignment this weekend, and should be able to rejoin the team during the first part of August.

Manuel told reporters, “I think Luis will come back with a little more fire about him, knowing we’ll play whoever is playing well.”

We’ve been fine without him. He should just take the year off and try and actually come back healthy next year. Have knee surgery, whatever he needs.

I’m on board with bringing him back and giving him another shot. I don’t think we need another situation where most people were asking for our cleanup hitter to be released after a couple of bad months with no injury excuse.

    But why?!?! =(

Can he rehab for The Point of no Return Mets of the AAAA Middle of Nowhere League. I think thats where Matt Wise is and I like it.

I think he should not be back this year. He played horrible and I really don’t see how he could be 100% after all his injuries. Take the year off and MAYBE give him a chance next year. We don’t need another Moises Alou playing a few games a year and then going on the DL again. We have plenty of guys that can play 2B as well as Castillo now.

    STAY AWAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Reyes (SS) flips the ball to Wright at third for one, Wright to Reyes (2B) at second for two, Reyes (2B) rifles the throw to Delgado at first. Triple play!”

    Sounds so much better than:

“Reyes (SS) flips the ball to Wright at third for one, Wright to Castillo at second for…oh he bobbles the ball! Castillo hops the throw to Delgado…oh he threw it in to the dugout!”

Just hang up the shoes already Castillo.

your such a loser honestly, you take like the best out of reyes, and worst out of castillo, are you kidding me, castillo is a gold glover, and he did make incredible plays, if he was healthy, he would easily hit .300, and he was their best hitter with RISP, so yeah, thats all you need to know.

      • RodKanehl says:

The guy played hurt for 3 months. The manager blasts him. Manuel wiull lose this team faster than Randolph or Howe did. Manuel is a jerk. Funny how all the guys blasting Delgado have turned their attention elsewhere. If fans had their way Delgado would be on another team.

Who needs fire when you can collect an $6 mil check for the next 3 years?

  9. jrs1940 says:

well, if Jerry is going to take that stance with Castillo, he should do the same with Beltran

Beltran is gutless. If I see that guy stand there with the bat on his shoulders one more time, I’m going thru the TV

    What a waste of 115M
