by Matthew Cerrone on July 31st, 2008 at 5:42 am

Mets LHP Jon Niese allowed one run in seven innings, while striking out seven batters, during his Triple-A debut in New Orleans yesterday.

For more on Niese’s start, be sure to read Bob Fortus’s story for the Times-Picayune.

…i will say this, it’s quite clear that lots of teams find niese to be an attractive pitcher…for instance, from what i can gather, the Pirates pushed hard for him in talks involving OF Xavier Nady and OF Jason Bay, but the Mets would not budge

Yesterday, on ESPN.com, Jayson Stark wrote that the Mariners continue to ask for Niese in talks involving OF Raul Ibanez.

The 22–year-old Niese was 6–7 with a 3.04 ERA in 22 starts in Double-A before being promoted to Triple-A.
