Wonder if we’ve finally sent Marlon Anderson to the glue factory

  2. gomets6091 says:

Murphy is the one who is naturally a (bad) 3rd basemen but has been playing 2nd, right? Hopefully this means Luis Castillo won’t be touching a uniform for at least a few more weeks…

  3. nysportsfan16 says:

he also plays 1st and Left

    • ridethesnake says:

I was never wild about Tatis being the emergency 3bman for Wright (or Easley or Anderson for that matter) so hopefully Murph impresses and finds a spot as the 25th man. I like Marlon a lot but have lost some faith in him as a difference maker late in the game off the bench. Some youth is always a good thing too.

  4. Prismo says:

I’m so excited to watch Murphy! I hope he’s starting at 2nd tonight! Let the youth movement begin!

  5. Mets17 says:

Congrats Murph, This kid can rake, I expect big things out of this kid

    • mikepelfreyismyguy says:

i hope that you are right. if murphy can really be like a chase utley or dan uggla, i will take it. then you slot reese havens at catcher, ike davis at first, fmart in left, beltran and church in center and right, wright and reyes at third and short. and finally, you got santana maine pelf and ollie and if he leaves brad holt and jon niese. way to go mets farm system.

      • therealsince86 says:

The Mets will NEVER start that much homegrown talent nor should they. A few here or there is great but do you honestly think that ALL of those guys will be good?

        • mikepelfreyismyguy says:

havens yes, murphy yes, reyes and wright and church and beltran already are, fmart is like on a pedistule for the mets, and all that is left is ike davis, who projects to hit 30-35 home runs and drive in 100+, so why not. as for santana, maine and pelf, they are staying, as for niese, if they didnt, manny would be a met guaranteed, and as for brad holt, i dont know, but i really think this kid has a future

        • therealsince86 says:

Havens has what, about 20 AB’s? LOL. Fmart MAY work out. Holt and Niese who knows.
I would feel much more comfortable if they get a real starter for either 1B or OF and one for the rotation.
You give me Garland and a hitter then you can put some more youth in.

        • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

Im a fan of jon garland. i think he could be a nice FA pick up in the off season. not going to command the ridiculous contracts of sabathia and sheets but is a solid starter that could easily slot into the back end.

        • therealsince86 says:

Yup the man defines constistan 200 innings guy.

        • ridethesnake says:

Let’s take it easy mpismyguy — every team in baseball has a farm system with players at every position, all with potential, and all liked by the organization as a possible fixture in the future (or they wouldn’t be there). But the days of every team’s future being solely in their farm was gone with Curt Flood’s failed attempt to become free.

      • The Slider says:

You have no idea what you’re talking about.

      • Hell to the Yea says:

Yea that leaves us with 4 lefties in the lineup and who even knows if havens is gonna be a catcher

  6. metterman says:

i hope so, i don’t want to see them get rid of reyes, so it’s gotta be anderson or cancel. I’m not opposed to this move, i say let the young guys get the experience, the problem is he won’t see anytime at third and this would make a 3 man rotation at second.

and when castillo comes back that makes a 4 man rotation. Put castillo on waivers

    • therealsince86 says:

You may put a 18 million dollar 3 year contract on waivers but no one is going to take it. Castillo is here until we unload him in the offseason or next season.

  7. MetsFan4Decades says:

Truthfully, after the way Marlon was running around the bases the other night, or trying to in obvious pain - I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the DL.

Otherwise, anyone think they’ll send A. Reyes back down then so Murphy can get his spot?

    I guess we’ll see…….

    • TurboDan says:

Maybe give Wright a day off once in a blue moon?

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

Don’t undertstand you’re comment. I’m not opposed to Murphy coming up. Just trying to figure out whose spot he’s taking…..

Easily/A. Reyes at second works for me right now. But if Beltran is ever gonna get a day off, then Chavez plays center so who plays right if Church isn’t back?
And isn’t Easly the only one who can play backup SS?
I know Tatis can play 3rd as well, but right now he’s our LF.

Too much for me to figure out. Glad I’m not the one who has to - LOL…….

        • Nate W. says:

I could see A. Reyes being sent down, or Nick Evans with Easley and Murphy picking up some LF time as well as 2B time.

        • The Slider says:

Why would you want to send Reyes down? He’s been solid and Easley is doing an excellent job at first and, I hate to say it, Castillo and his 4 year $24 million contract will be back soon. Murphy is strictly a bat of the bench for a week or two.

        • metmanb says:

metfan4decades, Murphey has player a lot of left field. SLider omar brought him up to see where he is offensively and defensively. he even said in his press conference that he wants to see some of his rookies in the bigs. this in no way is just for hitting. if it was val pussccucci would have been up awhile ago

  8. BiggieSmalls says:

probably move Evans down to get him some PT

  9. Cliff Pink Floyd says:

I wouldnt doubt if Evans went back down. He hasnt really impressed all that much. otherwise its gotta be cancel or anderson

  10. therealsince86 says:

I will never get the dislike for Castillo and the love for Endy. Endy made a good defensive play and he is gold. The guy is a defensive replacement and should never start if possible. He can’t hit. He trails Castillo in EVERY major offensive catagory, yet we rip Castillo as a terrible hitter.

In the same amount of AB’s Castillo has scored 15 more runs.
He has more HR, more Rbi, more steals, 40 walks compared to 17 for Endy, his OBP is 54 points higher and his slugging percentage is even higher than Endy’s.

Guys adding Castillo back to this lineup at 2nd and using Easley in the OF is a dramitic improvement.

    • metterman says:

thats great that you look at the whole season, but take a peak at the last month when we’ve needed chavez to step up, he’s hitting 309. when’s the last time castillo’s hit 300 for a month, anyway i hope you’re right, maybe castillo needed to get healthy. if he can come back and play well i will be a happy chap, we certainly could use him as easily is fadding a little. If he plays well and tatis can contniue at a decent pace, this lineup looks pretty good with a solid bench of easily, chavez, and they young bucks of reyes, murph dog and evans.

    • Mets17 says:

Endy doesnt have a 4 year 24 million dollar contract

      • therealsince86 says:

Too bad for Endy. What does that have to do with it? Like you would turn down a 24 million dollar contract. Nope guys you are paying me too much, how about 1 year for 2 million. LOL. Money has NOTHING to do with it. Castillo is just a better hitter.

    • The only dramatic improvement will happen when (if, please)Church comes back…moving Easley to the OF weakens it…Tatis, who I love, can’t play RF…If Castillo comes back It is going to be an Easley?Castillo Platoon at 2B with Castillo, Easley and Tatis playing the tough lefty.

  11. metterman says:

i can’t see them moving evans down, that leaves them with only anderson as an OF reserve ( and i guess easly but he’s your starting 2B). honestly i can’t see them sending reyes down over anderson or cancel, reyes is hitting over 300 the other two guys are hovering around 200. When castillo and church come back and if the murphy guy can really play then i see anderson cancel, and either reyes or evans being gone to make up the 25 man roster.

    • therealsince86 says:

I would imagine that Cancel will be DFA’ed.

      • nobeers says:

Cancel would be great to have on the bench to pinch hit and even run if Anderson isnt going to pick it up. He doesnt have the speed Reyes has but hes really a smart base runner and hes hit the ball much better than Anderson lately as well, especially in the clutch.

        • therealsince86 says:

Do you guys ever look at stats or do you just make things up.
          last 21 days
          Marlon: .343 BA 8/23
          Cancel: .182 BA 2/11

        • nobeers says:

I admit those stats are poor but they dont tell the whole story. Cancel had a terrible game in that 14 inning sleeper and as i said in my post above, Cancel is a great base runner. I didnt say he was going to change the team but I think all around hes better and with some more plate time I think his hitting would pick up as well.

Besides, BA is a useless stat with this team this year.

        • therealsince86 says:

Which one do you want me to use? Anderson still has better stats in every catagory over the last 21 days.
