The Mets announced today RHP John Maine has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to continue soreness in his left shoulder.

Maine can be reactivated from the disabled list on August 13.

Mets pitching prospect Eddie Kunz was promoted from Double-A Binghamton to take Maine’s spot on the roster.

Last year Perez and Sosa (when he was pitching well) were on the DL at the same time. We’ll survive. Not like Maine was pitching lights out anyway.

and the Mets missed the playoffs last year, so how does that make us feel better?

last year the Mets got rocked by the Phillies. I believe the mets are 9-4 against the Phillies this season (couldve/shouldve/wouldve been 11-2). Does that make you feel better?

There are plenty of ups and downs in a season. Too many people act as if this is first time they’ve watched baseball.

My point was the guy was using last season as a reason not to be worried about injuries, well, clearly that’s not a good example to stand on. Ok? So you can look elsewhere to be an AHole to someone with a negative comment about the Mets.

Great move by the Mets. Maine must be sat down for a few weeks. he is way to important to the franchise

this season is now over. the whole point of this season should be to get a look at the rooks. When are we bringing up niese. i would rather him pitch than tony armas.

No but it’s much more fun to make a big deal out of everything, then if we win you can feel great and if we lose you can say “Told you so, nanna nana”

Do we have anyone on this team that’s healthy?

I guess it’s better to do this now and have maine for a stretch run, if there is one…

Eh, it’s really not but one more start than we expected. He was not going to pitch until Friday the 8th anyway and his turn would come up on the 13th.

Yea, you’re right. I guess I’m just worried that it’s more serious than originally thought.

I think with the bullpen it just makes sense. Right now we need fresh bullpen arms and we don’t have a need for Maine for a while with these off days. Especially being down one bullpen guy again today with Wagner. That’s the reason I really want to see Vargas or Figgy brought up for a long man until Maine’s next scheduled start.

i’d much rather see them bring vargas back up and send muniz back down. i cringe every time i see him warming up.

True enough, Vargas just brings more to that role. or like I said Figgy who gives a really different look.

Parnell pitched on Friday.
Figgy threw 5 inning last night.
C. Vargas is set to be tonights starter for the Z’s and would be available 8/8
Jon Niese is scheduled to start tomorrow for the Z’s and would not be available again in time to help the Mets this week if he makes this start.

seems like they could pick the day they need a replacement following monday’s off day.

I would…
1) Use C. Vargas or Parnell on Fri the 8th keeping Santana and Perez split up. This allows Maine to come back in his slot without messing up the other starters.
2) Use Niese on Wed the 6th allowing Pedro and Santana a extra day rest.

apparently he was just there to visit people, and his agent represents a few mets too or something along those lines. thats what they said at least. who knows.

I still think that puts us in the lead. He would feel more comfortable here and know he had a shot at resigning with a decent contract.

The problem is it’s not just 15 days, it’ll probably be AT LEAST another 10 and then a rehab start (which he’ll have a 50/50 chance of getting out of healthy).

I just wish that one of these days the Mets could stop acting like this is the NFL and just be upfront about injuries. Anybody who has a clue about what’s going on could figure out that Maine was going on the DL, stop dicking the fans around and just be straight forward.

Garcia? Livan? Omar get some bodies in here! Now!
Also, I think Lopez and Monroe should be looked at.
This is why I was so upset that we did not make any trades at the deadline. I really hope these prospects can get the job done. If not Omar is going to look real bad here. With so many ? marks now, Church, Maine, Wagner, Pedro, Castillo, Castro leaving yesterday.
Oh boy I feel a little sick!!

The Mets age is now 28.2. Let the youth movement begin.

If Wagner was not sent back to NY this move does not happen. Maine was the easiest to put on the DL so it only moves him back a few more days because of the retroactive date. They needed an extra starter anyway for make up game on Monday so this he can slide in over the weekend and move people back. My guess is it is Jon Niese’s start. I for one am happy they are giving some young blood a shot here. The old arms in the bullpen are terrible.

So the Mets lied about Maine’s injury also? Gee, what a shock. Now you wonder why I predict Church is done for the season…

I agree. They handled Church’s concussion very badly.

ladies and gentleman, dont be alarmed, and stop overreacting. as i recall, you did the same thing against that bullpen blowup against the phils when joe blanton debuted, anyway, they are two games out pending a loss of the phils, they can make that up. for maine, he could have pitched on friday, but they needed bullpen help badly, so they rather get a reliever, and it helps cuz no maine gets more rest, plus they have a first round reliever in kunz.
