Salvage a game today and come home and beat up the pads while the fish and phils beat each other up

  2. patrick says:

I smell a six to eight walk affair from Oliver.

  3. AlwaysAmazing5 says:

BigPelf is right. Get a win today, hope for a Phils loss, and we are right there. Today is important though.

    • therealsince86 says:

I always root for the Phills to lose but it’s too early to worry about the standings. Right now we need to answer a lot of questions and start playing good baseball again.

    • garfios says:

The Mets are going nowhere, we have to recognized that we don’t have the team or the drive to win our division, not to mention a World series ring, the kids that they had brought up look overmatched at the plate(Evans), and the vets have no mojo, the bullpen is the worst and hitting with men on base is like mission impossible, they will tease us, but no cigar at the end.

  4. maybealittlemoredelgado says:

this team is falling apart it looks like. wagner hurt, maine to DL. brutal.

    • AlwaysAmazing5 says:

Well, I plan to remain positive. It’s a tight race, and we are right there. With the Padres coming in, there is no reason to panic. Hopefully, the Cards take one tonight from the Phils.

      • gomets6091 says:

you mean the team that swept us in 4 games?

I used to be a schedule watcher, but last season proved that it really doesn’t matter WHO you’re playing so much as HOW you’re playing. If the Mets get back to playing the way they played for most of July, they’ll win the division, if not, they won’t. Simple as that.

  5. LIMetfan74 says:

Sorry but I smell a sweep

  6. chaseh says:

Tatis, Evans, Easley, Cancel. Maine gone and Wagner on the bus outta town. It’s remarkable that the Mets are even in the fight at this point.

    • AlwaysAmazing5 says:

And of course the Marlins jump out to an early lead. 2-0 bottom 3rd. Jacobs homered. Again.

      • therealsince86 says:

Bringing his average up to .200.

        • therealsince86 says:

Well he is at .245 but his OBP is friggin .290. This guy is a nothing. Delgado at 105 years old would be better than him.

  7. losmets5 says:

Hopefully Kunz doesn’t pitch like our regular bullpen. Frankly, it’s not so uch our tea is slumping as much as the bullpen is slumping.

    Fish(Game 1): Bullpen gives up 5 runs
Fish(G3): Smith gives up a deciding homer
Astros(G1): Heilman gives up a grand slam
Astros(G2): Wags gives up 2 and Heilman/Feliciano give up winning run

    Let’s get hot again!

  8. BigPelf4prez says:

    kunz taking l millz # 44

  9. BigPelf4prez says:

why is beltran leading off? o wait reyes is out already

  10. therealsince86 says:

Way to make him work Reyes. LOL.

  11. Aflac Sucks says:

Balk. He clearly stepped towards home.

  12. therealsince86 says:

Well, that was fun. Should have at least ran over the pitcher.

  13. 911nafstem says:

    Beltran’s stellar season continues

    • therealsince86 says:

By getting out on a balk?

      • 911nafstem says:

It wasn’t a balk because it wasn’t called, I’m tired of blaming the umps

        • therealsince86 says:

No doubt but you can’t fault a guy for getting on base and trying to steal. He rarely gets caught. Not a bad move, he had a good read on the pitcher and he still picked him off. That’s why SB’s have gone down over the years.

        • skylog says:

i am not going to blame the umpires for the problems with this team, but, regardless of whether the umpires made the correct or not, that was a balk. much like last nite with the hit batter. if the umpires are not going to make the call, right, when it happens, why is it even in the book?

if they are not going to use the rule, then just take it out or change it. that is my only point.

        • 911nafstem says:

But my point is, if it’s BS it’s BS for both teams and it will all even out throughout the year, so I’m through getting all worked up over poor umpiring. It’s a crutch for how underwhelming the Mets have played this season.

        • skylog says:

i agree with you to a point about evening out, and trying not to be a typical fan, but it just does not seem to be evening out this year…yet. there have been quite a few home run calls, baserunning calls…etc…that have clearly gone against the mets and it “seems” they can not get a break.

of course, if they did a lot of other things right/better i am sure my perception would be skewed in a more positive light.

  14. Aflac Sucks says:

By the way, did Delgado officially win the player of the month for July? I don’t think I’ve heard Gary or Keith mention it.

  15. therealsince86 says:

Wolf threw 18 pitches just imagine what that would have been if Reyes had not swung at the 1st pitch and if Beltran had not gotten balked off. Could have easlily been 25-30.

    • skylog says:

i agree, the balk/pickoff changed the inning. jose seems to change his approach with each at bat, but he has been going well (not on the bases, man) so it is hard to get on him too much. besides, with all the issues this team has right now, he is the least of our worries

  16. therealsince86 says:

Ok I am tired of Kaz Mat.

  17. 911nafstem says:

If only Matsui played half this well in NY he wouldn’t be a punchline

  18. skylog says:

wow. not the best of first innings so far, but the bigger question is what else can go wrong? although not a shocker, maine on the dl and now more wagner issues. this season, with due respect to last, is cursed or something. there have been so many injuries and blown chances/games it is unreal.

time for every to do some kind of exorcism or something. that said, at the very least we can get a look at some new faces.

come on ollie, they can not afford to get behind today

  19. dominicanboy08 says:

man, carlos lee would look perfect in this mets lineup

    • 911nafstem says:

he struck out with a man in scoring position, he’d fit right in

    • therealsince86 says:

Just not in the OF for the next 4 years. His contract was not worth it.
      6/100.
Although, if we had him we may have won in 2006 and not collapsed in 2007.

      • The Slider says:

He was raised in Houston and now lives on his ranch outside of Houston and, I believe, he has a no trade clause.

He ain’t coming to the Mets.

        • therealsince86 says:

Who said anything about trading for him. We were commenting on when he was a FA.

    • Two-By-Four says:

If I remember correctly Lee was a FA signed in 11/06 by the Astros. At the time most Mets fans didn’t think it was worth investing the dollars in him since the Mets had the three stud outfield prospects, Willie Mays, Duke Snider and Mickey Mantle, I believe they were. If he would have helped the Mets sneak into the playoffs in 2007 (even with the collapse they only lost by one game) by helping them win an extra game here or there the additional revenues from the post season appearance would have offset his contract. Having his bat in the lineup this year would take some pressure off of the pitching staff.

Would he have come here? He did express an interest in playing for the Mets during the 2006 season.

  20. rj101592 says:

LOL wow the yankees suck. They just had bases loaded 1 out. Nady hits an rbi sac to left and abreu trys tagging from 2nd to 3rd he gets thrownn out before jeter crosses the plate run didn’t score double play. HAHA wow!

    • 911nafstem says:

I’m holding off on my Yankee bashing for the time being, it’s not exactly like the Mets are tearing it up.

  21. therealsince86 says:

Wow, if that is going to be a strike then Perez SHOULD dominate.

  22. The Slider says:

    Another ex-Met.

  23. skylog says:

ah yes, getting beat this series by kaz and ty. it makes it a little sweeter. they were given up on years ago and they still have enough to bring the pain.

    • therealsince86 says:

You had to give up on Kaz. Wigginton, I never understood.

      • skylog says:

that whole kaz situation was a mess from the beginning. it always kind of bugged me, because i always liked kaz and i like to see him do well. i just hate that he uses these games to play so well.

        • 911nafstem says:

He’s seems to be a small market guy who can’t play well under fan scrutiny. Afterall, he came to the Mets as the “Japanese Cal Ripkin” and pretty much took a year off Jose Reyes’ career. He also had the worst swing I have ever seen by a position player.

        • therealsince86 says:

          Besides Endy Chavez.

      • 911nafstem says:

I guess they figured they had to make room for Wright.

      • therealsince86 says:

He was traded for Kris Benson?

      • Dafatone80 says:

He’s not very good. He got us Benson, who got us Maine and Julio, who got us El Duque.

        Wigginton for Maine? We win.

Look at Wigginton’s numbers. I love his attitude. He’s just not all that good a ballplayer.

        • therealsince86 says:

Would have still been a good deadline pickup with his versatility. Similar to Casey Blake.

        • Dafatone80 says:

Maybe, but I’d rather have a guy who I’d feel more comfortable with in the OF. Wigginton isn’t that guy.

Blake would have been a decent fit.

        • therealsince86 says:

True, Blake has played a lot more OF. Either of them would be better than Anderson in the utility role.

  24. therealsince86 says:

Wiggington would have been a good pickup if the Astros did not think they were still in the race. If they keep playing the Mets they might get back in the race.

  25. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    ugh.

  26. The Slider says:

Great job by Evans on that play.

  27. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Nice, Evans.
    Ollie got lucky there.

  28. losmets5 says:

Alright, let’s get that run back.

  29. therealsince86 says:

Bunt single from the catcher, is this guy Jason Kendal?

  30. therealsince86 says:

That has to be scary for the 3rd baseman to see him swinging.

    • therealsince86 says:

No excuse to take one looking there. You have to make contact or at least SO trying. What a terrible AB.

  31. losmets5 says:

    Go little tubby.

  32. losmets5 says:

    You suck, Pence.

  33. losmets5 says:

Hit a home run, Wright, hit a home run.

  34. losmets5 says:

Make it 6 HR against southpaws, Wright, come on?

  35. 911nafstem says:

I guess the saying “not as dumb as you look” doesn’t apply to Cancel

  36. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Well that wasn’t good.

  37. losmets5 says:

Agh, little tubby! What were you doing?

  38. therealsince86 says:

What the hell are you doing?

  39. The Slider says:

Did Cancel do THAT on his own? Or did that come from the bench?

  40. domosnacks5 says:

    WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

  41. Genesis Does says:

Back to the minors you dumb ****. Take the bat out of our best hitter’s hands.

3rd most RBI’s in the NL, better advance so he can hit a sac fly with 2 outs

  42. skylog says:

see you guys some time next week, this is just too much.

    - no sac bunt
    - beltran first pitch foul out pop up
    - cancel “stealing”

    have fun

  43. alpitt says:

    Un-be-lieveable

  44. Flushing_is_Burning says:

why? why? you look like slowpo, you can’t steal, who do you think you are? el duque?

  45. therealsince86 says:

LOL, we can’t get out of our own way. Man in scoring position and our Catcher tries to steal 3rd with 2 outs. That’s not even a good play if he makes it.

  46. Gina says:

    What happened?

  47. alpitt says:

    He should be benched immediately

    • therealsince86 says:

Would never happen with only Schnieder on the bench to play catcher. Would be better just to release him when Castro is healthy. Then hope he goes to the Phillies.

  48. mrose says:

i’m so sick of the ugly baseball this team plays… what happened to that crisp baseball as little as a week ago? UGH

  49. therealsince86 says:

    Nice 9 pitch inning Perez.

  50. The Slider says:

    Gangstas on the field, eh?

  51. therealsince86 says:

Cancel is the laughing stock with Astro’s announcers.

  52. Flushing_is_Burning says:

why isn’t this a 4-1 mets game is beyond me… this guy is NOT good

  53. therealsince86 says:

Don’t load the bases, don’t load the bases. LOL.

  54. BlueCapsOnly says:

grand slammie for evans, that would be sweet?

  55. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Now he figures out how to throw the curveball. Geez.

  56. MetsFan4Decades says:

WHY can’t they ever seem to get that one big hit???

Come on, Cancel. Redeem yourself here.

  57. therealsince86 says:

Ok, rook you have to swing the bat up here.

  58. BigPelf4prez says:

GET EM JERRY THAT CALL WAS BS

  59. therealsince86 says:

Why do pitchers ever throw anything to us but breaking pitches, we can’t hit them anyway.

  60. 911nafstem says:

    YAY!!!! LET’S GO METS!!!!!!

  61. Tha Prowler says:

cancel = the spanish kirby puckett…minus the clutchness.

  62. MetsFan4Decades says:

Again, I’m asking: WHY can’t we ever get that one big hit????

    Sigh…..

    • The .500 Club says:

Because we have 4 bench players and a pitcher in our starting line up!

      • 911nafstem says:

then again Wright and Delgado did the same thing on Thursday so it’s not as if the middle of the order are world beaters

  63. therealsince86 says:

30 pitches, NO RUNS. That’s great.

  64. EV says:

Can this team ever get a big hit?

  65. el_giacomo says:

Wont be too long before opposing pitchers just intentionally walk the first 3 batters of every inning…

  66. hi5wright says:

    AAAARGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  67. therealsince86 says:

Well if it’s any consolation, Jerry will get ejected this game. Then we can see if that stuff works or not.

  68. MetsFan1989 says:

that right there seperates a playoff team from a pretender. i guess we got nothing and should have been seelers at the deadline….

    • therealsince86 says:

      What is a seeler?
And I guess the Yankee’s are pretenders too.

      • MetsFan1989 says:

seller.. no look yanks just came through to today. and look who it was… NADY

        • 911nafstem says:

Yankees also have a payroll that could feed a small country

        • therealsince86 says:

That is not the point. Point is they blew a basesloaded situation earlier in the game when Nady hit a sac fly.

        • therealsince86 says:

Lets not bring in payroll. Good for them. They have the resources and use them.

        • 911nafstem says:

but it’s a factor, Mets don’t make a lot of moves the Yankees would make simply because they don’t want to take on extra salary, no team does.

        • therealsince86 says:

What move did they make to bring on a lot of salary for next season? This season only Ivan cost that much.

    • Gina says:

It doesn’t make much sense to sell when you’re a game up in a division with nothing but flawed teams.

  69. 911nafstem says:

Just bring up Martinez, what the hell, he can’t be worse than these clowns

    • therealsince86 says:

For who? I am sure he can be worse than a lot of these guys.

      • 911nafstem says:

I’d rather have him hit than Endy, Murphy, Evans, and Cancel (once Castro comes back).

        • therealsince86 says:

What makes you think he would be better than Murphy or Evans? His numbers?

        • 911nafstem says:

because he’s pretty uniformly considered better than those guys and he’s actually an outfielder

        • therealsince86 says:

He is considered to have more POTENTIAL. His numbers in AA are no where NEAR these guys.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

I think it’s just to soon for Martinez. Maybe bring him up for a look in Sep. but unless the injures just keep mounting this month, I don’t seem them realistically bringing him up any sooner to be a bench player.

    • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

      Only if he can pitch.

  70. MetsFan1989 says:

clap clap. getting swept by a bad team lol

  71. EV says:

    Dammit

  72. therealsince86 says:

Crap, 2 out hitting. Wigginton is killing us.

  73. MetsFan1989 says:

evens is not a major league player. AAA at best

  74. EV says:

Why does Jerry start Nick Evans?

  75. MetsFan4Decades says:

I like Evans, but that’s what happens when you’ve got infielders playing the outfield…..

  76. The Slider says:

We need to bring up more guys from our farm. Definitely.

  77. Dafatone80 says:

Well, the answer to our problems remains the same as it’s been all season.

    Kenny Lofton.

  78. therealsince86 says:

    Blowout.

  79. alpitt says:

It’s torture rooting for this team

  80. MetsFan1989 says:

all right. y dont we just get benny agbaniyi

  81. 911nafstem says:

yup, that’s what happens when you blow bases loaded opportunities

  82. EV says:

Again, this is Minaya’s fault because our farm system SUCKS and we got Nick Evans and Robinson Cancel on this team when they shouldn’t be on it. FIRE OMAR!!!!!

    • therealsince86 says:

I would say the farm system sucking has a lot more to do with PreOmar. It was bad when he got here. If anything it’s better now.

    • Gina says:

What could Omar done to improve the farm system while still maintaining a winning major league team?

      • therealsince86 says:

Especially a WIN NOW MLB team. That’s what happens when you sign Alou, resign Elduque…..

        • EV says:

That’s bull real. The Yankees are a win now team and they got a real good farm system. Because of that they got Nady and Marte, two players we could use really bad now.

        • therealsince86 says:

And they were in that position because they did not trade 4 of their top 5 prospects for Johan.

      • EV says:

First off Real I disagree. It was bad pre Omar but it hasn’t gotten MUCH BETTER. We rank low in the standings of minor league systems and because of this we couldn’t make a trade at the deadline. I know about the trade for Santana but good minor league system have more than 4 good players like the Angels, Dbacks, etc. Gina, what could of have been done is drafing better. We’ve had some TERRIBLE DRAFTS. That goes back to PAYING OVER SLOT. Something that Omar and or the Wilpons do not do.

        • therealsince86 says:

No the Santana trade did kill the already bad system. It is currently very young as Omar has hit the international market and then got us 4 picks this past season.
We had about 8-10 good players but with 4 of them gone and the others being asked for in a over priced market ……
You mean to tell me that if our minor league system had
Millidge, Gomez, Fmart, Humber, Niese, Guerra, Kunz, Mulvey, Parnell, Murphy and all the young guys we have that we would not have a good farm system?

        • Gina says:

I agree they could have drafted a little better, but with few first round picks there’s not much more they could have done. And I doubt many people in here were complaining when he signed Pedro/ and or Beltran because of the draft picks it cost us.

  83. kevinz says:

God the backgroun “oohh-hooo-hooooo” singing in the Earthlink commercial makes me want to punch out my TV.

  84. therealsince86 says:

Well about time for the Phillie “fans” to start taking over the board. Maybe time to checkout.

  85. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Well, now we’re gonna see what these Mets are made of. Still plenty of time for a good team to bounce back.

  86. The Slider says:

I’m not going to waste any more of this beautiful Sunday afternoon. Hopefully, my temporary absence will bring us some better luck.

  87. washtiger says:

    Well, here we go again…

I try to be as positive as the next guy, but this team is so difficult to have any faith in. Never mind the bullpen meltdowns, or Ollie imploding just now — what are our stats with the bases loaded this season, especially with less than 2 out? How about this series alone? Ya gotta get at least one run in. Can’t anyone on this team hit a sac fly? Why not try a squeeze? Something!

  88. skylog says:

    back for a quick one:

    mets in a nutshell:
    - top – bases loaded 1 out. two straight k’s. 0 runs
    - bottom – 2 outs no one on. 4 straight hits. 3 runs.

where has it all gone so wrong since 06?

  89. LIMetfan74 says:

This what all you guys wanted to see our young guy. There you have it you cant expect to make the playoffs when you have the guys playing. They are not ready!!

    • therealsince86 says:

Evans is learning to play the OF, I am sure he is ready for 1B but not for the OF. Problem is, we have no other options.

      • LIMetfan74 says:

This is why we needed to get an outfielder!! We have guys playing out of position!

        • Gina says:

Do you think Manny would be much better defensively? Not to mention with the asking prices there really weren’t any real options, unless you were okay with giving up Niese for Ibanez.

        • therealsince86 says:

Who do you want to go get?

    • skylog says:

not once did i say i wanted to see nick evans. besides, evans slipped. murphy seemed ok last nite? no? anyway, evans is not doing anything that the whole team has been doing all season.

lastly, most people here were calling for new faces in the pen, not position players. at that, those calling for position players were calling for murphy and martinez

      • Gina says:

“those calling for position players were calling for murphy and martinez”

probably because Evans was already up. Before that people were calling for Evans and basically reacted the same way they’ve reacted to Murphy now when he was first called up. I’d expect people to be down on Murphy in a few weeks as well.

        • therealsince86 says:

Actually I am fine with Evans and Murphy in LF, why not? It’s better than Endy I can’t hit Chavez.
I would rather have Reyes/Castillo at 2B and Easley/Tatis in the OF but either way this is better than Endy.

        • Gina says:

I’m not disagreeing. I’m just saying fans on here seem to change their opinions pretty quickly, a few poor games from Murphy and they”ll be complaining about him too.

  90. LIMetfan74 says:

Good job Omar!! We dont need anybody we are just fine!

    • Gina says:

Who exactly did you want him to get at those asking prices?

      • therealsince86 says:

They don’t have an answer to those questions. I have given up.

        • EV says:

I got one how about Casey Blake or even Nady. Oh that’s right those are two of the many teams aka Dodgers and Yankees that have a better farm system than us.

        • Gina says:

I’m sure you were complaining when we traded for Johan. Or when Omar signed Beltran/Pedro.

        • LIMetfan74 says:

I wanted him to do something before the season! He had no back up plan for Alou and did nothing to improve the bullpen during the off season. Mat wise worked out great. You are a GM firgure it out.

  91. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    All right, bel-TRAN!

  92. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    Gary Cohen = Mr. Sunshine.

  93. therealsince86 says:

Beltran looking better in the 2 hole. Hit the ball well yesterday and then again today.

  94. therealsince86 says:

Imagine what a Wright HR right here could do the mental part of this team.

  95. MetsFan1989 says:

funny phillies come back 5+ runs down back to back days. mets NEVER came from 4 runs down ALL SEASON. and wrgiht grounds in a double play. pulling an outside pitch

  96. 16oz says:

Thanks Omar! Awesome job with the team this year

I dont know what i’m more excited about, the fact that we carry 3 catchers, that none of the bullpen issues were addressed or the fact that we cant field a legitimate OF.

    ya know what i’m sayin

  97. MetsFan4Decades says:

Come on, Carlos. Get us back in the game here.

  98. MetsFan1989 says:

delgado is gone now. swinging at the pitch he can never hit inside.

  99. MetsFan1989 says:

ugly swing good outcome. and once againbbases loaded. lets see what this team is about…

  100. MetsFan4Decades says:

That was the worse swing I’ve ever seen, but he somehow gets on.

You just can’t make this stuff up – lol !

  101. kevinz says:

    Now that was entertaining!!

  102. alpitt says:

    Geez, what was that carlos

  103. kevinz says:

OH NO WE HAVE THE BASES LOADED AGAIN!

    • BlueCapsOnly says:

actually i feel comfortable with tatis in this spot…anybody else on this team, no

  104. therealsince86 says:

Well Astro’s here would score 4 runs, we will uh…..

  105. Tha Prowler says:

    i smell a tattoo from TATIS !!!

  106. alpitt says:

Mr. Grand Slam comes to the plate

  107. el_giacomo says:

    ugh bases loaded again…

  108. therealsince86 says:

Only hope is to walk in a run.

    • el_giacomo says:

That’s never going to happen since the Mets hitters must ALWAYS try for a Grand Slam with the bases loaded. Apparently they aren’t permitted to get a base hit or work a walk in that situation.

  109. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Oh, what might have been right there…

    Heartbreaking. Again.

  110. MetsFan1989 says:

hahah second stragiht inning. u know. we cant defened and all can can argue that this team SUCKS

  111. Two-By-Four says:

Well at least the bullpen won’t have a chance to blow this one.

  112. hi5wright says:

Why do I find myself feeling bad for Ollie?

  113. washtiger says:

    I’ll ask the question again:

What are the Mets stats with the bases loaded this year? Horrible, I’m sure…

    • therealsince86 says:

      Batting under .200 now.

    • el_giacomo says:

Not including today’s game, the Mets have the 2nd worst batting average in the majors, .200, and the worst OBP @ .230 with the bases loaded. We also lead the majors in at-bats in that situation. After today’s game, those numbers will only be uglier…

  114. Flushing_is_Burning says:

OF COURSE!!! what else did I expect?

  115. mrose says:

who else wants to (or has) thrown something at the TV?

  116. tatislover17 says:

XAVIER NADY – 5 RBI FOR YANKS, INCLUDING A 3 RUN BOMB

    THANKS FOR THE HELP OMAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

  117. MetsFan1989 says:

i wont thorw nothing againt my 2 thousand dollar tv lol

  118. washtiger says:

Meanwhile, Yankees were down 5-0, now leading 8-5. I know, why should I care about the Yankees. Well, you know, I’m still not sure how they pulled off that Nady deal. Seems to me they gave up sh@t… I understand Minaya not making a move just to make one, but there was nothing out there?

This is just frustrating as he@@! Bases loaded 2 consecutive innings and the end result is a small army of men LOB.

    • mrose says:

“This is just frustrating as he@@! Bases loaded 2 consecutive innings and the end result is a small army of men LOB.”

That is the theme for the season

    • hi5wright says:

Yeah. those of you who are not watching the game, they brought up a terrible stat. Mets have never come back from 4 runs down this season, yet they have giving up 4+ run leads FIVE times this season. That is a sign of just a great team, don’t you agree?

  119. Stems says:

something needs to be done about this team… FAST!

    and I don’t necessarily mean a move…

where the F is the hitting!??!?

  120. NYMBosco says:

X Nady just hit a clutch 3 run homer and he has 5 rbis today. You suck omar not getting nady back. We have no clutch players on this team and our gm does nothing at the deadline…..fire omar!!!

    • Dafatone80 says:

Nady bat 160 with RISP for us.

He’s having a good year. He’s not a magical god of clutchness.

      • Two-By-Four says:

He would have been a major upgrade over what we have.

        • therealsince86 says:

No doubt, but next year when we were paying him 10 million and he returned to his career norms and we did not have Fmart or Niese …….

        • Dafatone80 says:

Yeah, and he would have cost quite a lot.

The plan is to win this year if we can, and have a very good looking future. We’re sticking to it.

        • Two-By-Four says:

What guarantee is there the future will bring success? How do we know that Niese is the second coming of Sandy Koufax? Right now this club is close to making the post season. Considering how difficult it is to get there do you let a legitimate opportunity go by? But again the Yankees did not give up pitching with the same upside as Niese and I doubt if the Mets would have had to give up both FM and Niese. None of us were privy to the conversations between the Mets and Pirates so we really don’t know. But consider what the Yankees gave up as a guide.

        • therealsince86 says:

Problem is we did not have what the Yankees gave up. We have no middle prospects.

        • Two-By-Four says:

If the Mets would have made the playoffs this year because of that trade the additional revenues would have more than offset the contractual costs of Nady and Marte. And again there is no guarantee that FM and Niese are the second comings of Willie Mays and Sandy Koufax. I know Marte will be a FA after the year but the Mets would have had an inside track to sign him and he is quite talented.

        • therealsince86 says:

It’s not the money this season. It’s that they were not worth our only 2 prospects.
What does playoff revenue have to do with anything? We are not going over the cap anyway.

    • therealsince86 says:

So you wanted to give up Fmart, Niese and another prospect for Nady and Marte?

      • das2ble says:

yes! that would have been tons better! C’mon – Nady is amazing and Marte is nasty

      • washtiger says:

That’s what I don’t understand. Why did they did the Yankees crap (are any of those guys top prospects), and wouldn’t take our lesser prospects?

Why do teams continue to allow themselves to get fleeced by the Yankees?

        • washtiger says:

That should be why did they take* the Yankees crap…

        • therealsince86 says:

Those guys were scouted by the Pirates and would have been guys that we just don’t have. They were not as good as Fmart but better than Evans.
That’s what we are missing after the Johan trade. We have no middle ground.
You could have had them for Gomez and Mulvey most likely.

        • MetsFan1989 says:

b/c they crappy prospects r better than our crappy prospects. b/c we were not giving up anybody

        • Dafatone80 says:

Tabata is a top prospect, though he’s been cold lately. The others are decent, I think.

        • Gina says:

Tabata is their second highest rated prospect and considered a high upside player, similar to F-mart, he’s a player the pirates have been targeting for a while and just happens to be struggling in his first year in AA. Going into this season they couldn’t have traded Nady for him straight up. They just took the opportunity to buy low on him.

As ridiculous as it may sound we likely would have had to include F-mart to come up with a package of similar value to the Pirates. And I don’t know much about the other players in the trade but I’m pretty certain we don’t have a player comparable to Karstens, not because he’s amazing or anything but we just don’t have anyone like that.

        • Two-By-Four says:

I have a number of friends that are Yankees fans and closely follow their minor leagues. The Yankees had cooled on Tabata because of his off the field actions and he his wrist problems. He lost value just like LM lost value with the Mets. The other prospects were as they said “no great loss.”

        • therealsince86 says:

Still not the point. It’s just we did not have those type of prospects. We had no middle prospects. It’s either Fmart Niese or Evans Carp.

        • Gina says:

What does their opinion have to do with what the pirates think of those prospects. We really just don’t have comparable players. Regardless of what Yankees fans think Tabata is still regarded as a high upside type player, the only player we have like that is F-mart, and he’s a player the pirates have liked for a while and targeted specifically. Not to mention while Karstens & McClutchens are unspectacular, to say the least, they’re still a 25 year old pitchers with good AAA numbers who profile as a back end of the rotation guy/ decent long men. We don’t have one guy like that to give up, let alone 2. I just don’t see how we could have matched that package.

Not to mention they probably don’t think losing Tabata is a big blow because they have Austin Jackson raking and 23 year old Melky Cabrera already in the bigs. We don’t exactly have that luxury. It would have been like us trading F-mart or Gomez early last season. We probably wouldn’t have thought it was a big blow either to trade our third rated outfielder then.

        • therealsince86 says:

          Agreed.

      • Two-By-Four says:

Are you sure that’s what it would have taken? Remember Tabata has wrist issues and has not exactly been an alter boy. I visited a couple of Yankees blogs after the trade and the general perception is that the Yankees gave up no one that was in their future plans. They considered the trade a “steal.”

BTW I saw Niese pitch in ST he has an excellent power curve and throws 90, 91 mph, I’m sorry that does not automatically make him the next Sandy Koufax. Actually he reminded me of Koosman except that when Koosman first came up, before he hurt his arm and back, he threw in the mid to high 90’s. Niese is not rated as highly as Kazmir was when the Mets traded him away so let’s not make that comparison.

BTW if obtaining Nady and Marte would have put the Mets in the post season it would have been worth it. After you get into the post season it becomes a crap shoot and from a business point of view it represents a large source of revenue and from a fans point of view tremendous excitement. Look at it this way. If the Mets had not won in 1986 and the playoffs and WS were no cakewalk, it would have been going on 39 years since the Mets won a WS. It’s not like this team has been a perennial post season ball club.

        • therealsince86 says:

I just don’t think after the Johan trade that it’s worth trading our only 2 name prospects for Nady and Marte. Sorry.
And I know that the guy the Yankee’s got is not as good as Fmart or Niese but he is better than Evans, Carp etc. We have no middle ground after the Johan trade.
We could have gotten them for Gomez and Mulvey.

        • Two-By-Four says:

You must have been involved in the trade negotiations since you know exactly what it would have cost the Mets. Keep on convincing yourself that this was the case as it will make this years results more palatable.

        • therealsince86 says:

Nope it’s just who do we have? You tell me who matches up with that trade? Evans and Parnell? LOL.

        • Two-By-Four says:

What guarantee is there that the next couple of seasons will bring the Mets playoff berths? There are no givens in baseball. Generally when teams have had the chance to get in the playoffs by trading away some prospect they made the move. You just never know when you will be back there.

I heard an interesting comment on the 10AM to 1PM show on WFAN. They reported that Omar was stunned over how little the Pirates received for Nady and Marte. The comment was that he could have and would have beaten the Yankees offer. But again I was not privy to the negotiations. BTW the consensus was that the Mets didn’t have the prospects to get Santana.

As I said Tabata’s stock has fallen because of personality and lingering wrist problems.

The Wilpon’s may go over the cap if the revenues sufficiently increase because of playoff appearances. There is a book out I believe it’s called the Economics of Winning and it shows how Steinbrenner turned the Yankees from , i think it was a $10 million investment into a team that is worth over $1 billion.

I also feel that this is the only trade that went down that the Mets should have seriously considered or had the wherewithal to make that could have seriously helped this team make the playoffs.

  121. tatislover17 says:

FIRE OMAR AFTER THE SEASON!!! Do not let him re-build this team.

  122. das2ble says:

This reminds me of the padres series earlier this year……..ugh

  123. tatislover17 says:

Alou, Pedro, El Duque, Delgado, Perez and others come off the books…….they are in a position to rebuild the roster. Not clear enough for you?

    • therealsince86 says:

That’s not rebuilding. Not clear enough for you? Rebuilding is when all of your stars are gone and you have to rebuild. When role players leave you just restock.

    • Gina says:

Perez may or may not come off the books we don’t know. And he’s pretty much the only one out of those 5 who really matter. Pedro can be replaced and probably upgraded easily through free agency. El Duque & Alou are non factors and for most of this season people have wanted Delgado gone anyway.

  124. das2ble says:

    According to mlb.com, the mets have 17 LOB today…..the astros = 4

  125. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

    This is very depressing.

  126. MetsFan1989 says:

    y do we suck.

  127. EV says:

You Omar lovers crack me up. Willie is gone and it was the right move. This team is still STRUGGLING. It can’t hit in the clutch and the bullpen stinks. Who’s fault is that? The new pitching coach or maybe Hojo? This is MINAYA’S MESS, and he needs to be FIRED at the end of the season.

    • therealsince86 says:

Or maybe that he set us up to be competitive this season and really make our move next season when all the old farts come off the books.

      • EV says:

So basically he’s chucked this year aside for next year? Come on Real. He has done a TERRIBLE JOB and deserves to ge fired for the lack of depth in the farm system alone.

        • therealsince86 says:

He didn’t “chuck” this season aside. Are we in the race? Even with all of our injuries?
So you want to fire him for trading for Santana? You are great.

        • EV says:

No you are real. I want him fired for the fact he put all his chips on Alou, for the way he handled Church, and for this go awful minor league system which is the reason why he couldn’t make one freaking trade at the deadline. Jon Niese is a nice looking pitcher but he shouldn’t be your best starting pitching prospect.

        • therealsince86 says:

Again, we traded how many pitchers for Johan?
He did not put all the chips on Alou, who did you want him to sign. Baring the Church injury then Chavez and Pagan could have filled in for Alou.
Again, blame him all you want. Just try and remember where we werer when he came in.

        • Two-By-Four says:

He’s also had much more to work with in terms of revenue. He was able to buy some of the players that previous GMs could not. But I wouldn’t replace him unless there was a better option.

        • therealsince86 says:

I would not say that, remember our payroll during the Bonilla years?

        • Two-By-Four says:

I maybe criticizing Omar today but I would never ever think of comparing Al Harazin to Omar. I have much to much respect for Omar.

  130. MetsFan1989 says:

  131. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Nice one, Jose. NOW LET”S WAKE UP, METS!

  132. Flushing_is_Burning says:

y did they take out Ollie?? i know he gave up 4 runs, but only 77 pitches!!

  133. therealsince86 says:

Speaking of next season. Make a statement that we are pitching first.
    Sign CC.
Sign Frod (trade Wagner somewhere, I know he has a no trade clause but I am sure if we told him he was going to be a setup man he would welcome a trade to some place like St. Louis)
    Pickup Delgado’s option for 12.
Let Murphy and Evans platoon in LF until Fmart is ready. Then if Delgado struggles use Evans at 1B too.
That’s around 50 million and we have 40 million coming off the books.
    Santana, CC, Maine, Pelfrey, Niese.
    Frod, Kunz

    • Dafatone80 says:

Not a terrible idea. I don’t think we can afford F-Rod, sadly. Also, after this year, I’m a little worried his arm will fall off.

      • therealsince86 says:

We have plenty of money to afford him. Like I said that would only cost us around 50 and we have 40 coming off the books. Plus the “salary cap” goes up again next season.

    • Two-By-Four says:

What makes you so sure these youngsters will be successful. Normally it takes a number of blue chip prospects to realize one star. You also need a number of lesser prospects since some of them develop into bona-fide major leaguers. It’s very possible that next years club may not be as close to a post season berth as this one is.

  134. Flushing_is_Burning says:

    AHHHHHHHHH!

  135. EV says:

I love the way the Angels play, they play like an NL team.

  136. therealsince86 says:

Offense does well, bullpen blows it.
    Starter does well, offense stinks
Offense does well, starter stinks, bullpen holds it, offense runs away.

I have seen this before. It’s like we can never get all 3 working and one has to get right in the way every game.

  137. Gina says:

Wow this yankees angels game is intense.

  138. EV says:

Yup. Wasn’t hard to miss. Same style, different name

And C4P: Why don’t you just get it over with and say everyone from the top on down to the bat boy sucks? Would save you about 100 posts a day.

    • Gina says:

      I think we’re a little past mid-season.

  154. NYP-BOS-NYP says:

  161. metfan435 says:

Good thing we didn’t pick up a bat at the deadline Omar. Good call.

    • therealsince86 says:

      Like…….

      • metfan435 says:

Nady, Bay, Manny, anyone at this point. But when we label the entire farm system as untouchable, this is what you get. Saying you are going to play the season out with the likes of Evans is saying you are playing for third place. He is not ready.

        • therealsince86 says:

You don’t think that all those guys were untouchable do you? You don’t think he might say that to get people to ask for some of them?

Nady, Bay or Manny would have cost us Niese and Fmart. Look at the trades and try and match them up to our current prospects.

    • MetfaninFL says:

Its funny last night everyone complained about him not getting a reliever now we need an OF bat. What did you want him to do? Even if he made a trade he was only getting one or the other. Its so stupid to say Omar should have gotten a bat when we get shut out and say he needed a BP arm when we blow a lead. We did not have enough to trade for a difference making outfield bat or reliever. You people who want Ayala or Ibanez make me laugh. Guys of that caliber would not have fixed this mess.

      • therealsince86 says:

Obviously trade Fmart and Niese for Nady and Marte. Duh.

        • Two-By-Four says:

You’re still fixating on that’s what it would have cost the Mets. I’m willing to admit I wasn’t in on the negotiations. Perhaps you were and if that is truly the case I defer to you. BTW it’s wonderful having the next Willie Mays and Sandy Koufax in our future.

        • therealsince86 says:

I am finished arguing with you. I have no idea and neither do you so it’s pointless. What I can do is try and match up those prospects with what was traded and we just don’t have them.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

Was thinking the same thing. It’s obviously just pure frustration over watching them loss this series….

      • metfan435 says:

I have to laugh at this labeling of Niese amd Fmart untouchable. Who says they are ever going to amount to anything. Is it in their contracts they will be first ballot hall of famers?

        • therealsince86 says:

They were not untouchable. They were just not being traded for Nady, a rental of Manny or Bay. If a sure thing that would have impacted the team next season had been available then I am sure they would have been touched all the way to the airport.

      • EV says:

You made the point for me that I’ve been saying all day. We did not have enough to trade for a bat or a reliver. Who’s fault is that? Freaking Minaya.

        • therealsince86 says:

You still don’t get it. We had the prospects to trade for a reliever or a bat like Ibanez. It’s just they were too good for that. We don’t have the middle ground because of the Johan trade. It’s a lot easier to trade Gomez and Mulvey for Nady if you have Fmart and Niese.

      • Gina says:

        Work magic.

        • LIMetfan74 says:

HE should have fixed the bull pen BEFORE the season started. Matt wise was a great move!
No back up plan for Alou I thought they should have went after Rowan.

        • therealsince86 says:

Can’t go after Rowan and block Fmart for 4 years.
Backup plan for Alou was Endy and Pagan. Who knew that Church would have gotten injured?

        • Two-By-Four says:

You’re making Church into some perennial super star. If he comes back healthy next year who’s to say he doesn’t regress to his past performances. For that matter if he stays healthy how do we know he would have kept up the pace this year. BTW Chavez and Pagan do not replace Alou’s bat. Pagan had an outstanding ST but does that mean he has progressed into a force at the plate?

        • therealsince86 says:

No, I think Omar saw that there was nothing really on the market and went with a cheap Alou expecting 100 games and a fill in by Endy and Pagan. Even if Church had been what he always had been this lineup would be much better.

      • Two-By-Four says:

It would have fixed 50% of the mess and that might have gotten the team into the postseason.

        • therealsince86 says:

At the price of years to come.
Look any other year I would have been all for trading those 2 but there are 2 things that changed that.
          1) Our deadline deal came in Feb. for Johan. It sent 4 of our top 10 prospects (in an already weak farm) to the Twins.
          2) We have too many other question marks this season to throw it all in. Even if we got Nady and Marte, what if Maine is still injured, Church never comes back, Tatis comes back to Earth, Delgado starts slumping, Wagner ……..
We are setup for a big offseason and are still in the race in a very average division. Ride what we have and hope all those question marks come through. Then you have the best of both worlds next season. A better farm and tons of cash.

        • Two-By-Four says:

How do you know what the future will bring? And btw making the playoffs is a nice way to increase your revenues to aggressively pursue FAs next year. This club may actually be worse next year.

        • therealsince86 says:

Wilpon is not going to go over the cap anway so revenue means nothing. You think they care about playoff revenue with the new TV contract?

        • Two-By-Four says:

          1. Playoff revenue is significant.

          2. SNY income depends on advertising revue that depends on ratings that in turn depends on the popularity of the ball club. The relatively small number of hardcore fans will always be there but the large number of band wagon fans tuning into SNY has a great impact on the ratings.

  162. X-Man says:

    One word: Pathetic.

  163. das2ble says:

it is now 22 LOB for the mets through the 8th. The WHOLE ENTIRE TEAM CANNOT HIT IN THE CLUTCH!

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

It really does seem that way.
And I don’t understand how anyone thinks this is Omar’s fault. The talent is there. We have .300 hitters who just can’t get out of their way with RISP…..

      • Gina says:

Because they have to blame someone and now that Willie’s gone Omar is the best target.

        • therealsince86 says:

No, some have always disliked him. Shhhhh, he’s hispanic you know.

        • Two-By-Four says:

You guys are really funny. You try to blanket everyone that criticizes Omar as either racist or wanting him immediately fired. It’s impossible to have a civilized conversation with you. It seems everyone is so damned polarized.

        • therealsince86 says:

Hey, I know what your sayin……

        • Gina says:

When did I say anyone was racist. I think you’re perfect reasonable two-by-four. I just think most of the rational fans, regardless of which opinion they have, are out numbered by guys like C4P.

        • Two-By-Four says:

Gina, I was replying too “therealsince86” so I didn’t mean you.

The play of the team is probably affecting me because it’s actually pointless to argue over whether a trade should or should not have been made. We can’t change history and all we can do is hope for the best.

        • therealsince86 says:

I know I got back late, but 2b4 you know I was not refering to you. You have to admit there are a lot more of the youknowwhatiamsayin types than there are of you.

    • das2ble says:

The team LOB is 10 (but still!)

  164. X-Man says:

The Braves better watch their backs or we just might catch them.

  165. garfios says:

You know what they need to do now, fired the Manuel, so we can start another winning streak.

    • therealsince86 says:

LOL, why not? It worked the last time. Time for Hojo. That way I won’t be too sad when he gets fired too.

      • garfios says:

We have to make history, not by winning but by firing two managers in the same year, I think it will be the first time that a team gets two managers fired in a 3 month span, after the biggest collapse in professional sport.

    • garfios says:

You better believe it, we are heading in that direction.

  166. dave27 says:

Am I the only Mets fan out there who can see losses today from 15 miles away and wonders why I am not profiting by betting against these clowns?

And does anyone who likes to ‘defend’ the Mets system have anything to say about Carlos Muniz and Nick Evans? Because to me they are exhibits 1 and 1A on how bad this system is.

  167. EV says:

Amen Dave, amen, Again, who’s fault is that? It isn’t Willie it’s Minaya.

  168. MetsFan4Decades says:

You know, I really just do not get this. We have the talent. Why can’t we get this done?

I’m so tired of par or sub par teams do well when playing us. It’s like everyone got the memo but the Mets…..

  169. das2ble says:

can we please dfa cancel? he sucks

  170. Nate W. says:

what gets me today is Warthen and Manuel talking about how the starters need to work deeper into the games and what do they do… PH for Perez when he’s only thrown 6 IP and 77 pitches.

With it not really being a big offensive spot there, and Perez able to go two more innings, I would have just let Perez soak up the innings and give the pen two days off.

Yet they get the wheel started and end up using 3 relievers again today to simply hold a 4 run deficeit. silly…

    • therealsince86 says:

And just give up the game? I know it worked out that way in the end but I would think they thought they had a chance to score.

      • Nate W. says:

It was a weak spot for a PH. You dont like A. Reyes’s bat anyway…

Pitching Kunz and Muniz isnt exactly making the best effort to win the game either.

They went middle of the road today, which bugs me…

    • almar1965 says:

Guess the “aura” on Manuel and Warthen is getting a bit dim.

We Mets fans have the biggest knee-jerk reactions.

    • MetfaninFL says:

So you are saying we should just give up the game. It would be nice to keep Perez in the game but down four runs you gotta PH. Welcome to NL baseball. I’m sure when he PH he thought it might start a rally or at least encourage the offense not to mail it in. Plus he used Muniz, Show, and Kunz all of whom have not pitched a lot for us. If he was bringing in Smith and Feliciano then you might have a case but it was hardly the use of our “A” relievers.

      • Nate W. says:

heh, its clearly debatable. But I would have thought saving the pen would give them a better shot at winning later this week.

In the end it doesnt matter that much. I would have prefered not to use Schoeneweis today. A. Reyes isnt much of a bat, so at least PH someone better there if you must pull the starter.

        • therealsince86 says:

Eh, we have an off day tomorrow, why save those guys in the pen.
Besides, who do we have on the bench to pinch hit there?

      • garfios says:

        Do we have “A” relievers?

  171. BigPelf4prez says:

Cancel and Evans MUST be sent down following 2days game. Bring up F mart and Pascucci

    • das2ble says:

      Amen to that!

    • therealsince86 says:

AND GO GET IBANEZ, HE IS CLUTCH.
PASCUCCI IS CLUTCH, EVANS IS A STIFF. YOU ARE A LOSER.

    • LIMetfan74 says:

Why dont we just promote the whole AA team?? Come on guys be real. You cannot bring up AA palyers for a pennant race in Sept and expect them to carry the team.

    • Nate W. says:

FM is still working his way back from his latest hammy injury. Taking BP and going some running. He wont be an option for another week or so.

    • Gina says:

Do people not realize Evans was our best, offensive at least, positional player in AA, we don’t have better options.

      • garfios says:

Yes we do, we have Pascucci and hernandez in AAA, what they doing is showcasing him to see if any taker. In the mid time we are F*&&k.

        • Gina says:

Pascucci is a 30 year old career AAAA player. And Hernandez? Are you being serious?

        • garfios says:

Of course I’m serious, this team is awful, I east we will have an excuse, beside, Pascucci will not be worst than Evans, and Hernandez has some ML experience, he hit like 298 in about 150 bats or so.

  172. BigPelf4prez says:

I DESPISE VALVERDE. I hate him

  173. das2ble says:

this looks like just another chance for the mets to not get a key hit with the bases loaded

  174. BigPelf4prez says:

How does reyes swing 3-1 down 4 runs??

    • therealsince86 says:

BECAUSE HE IS A STIFF HE IS NOT CLUTCH< ONLY RAUL IBANEZ IS CLUTCH.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

easy a pitcher throwing 97+ can get away with a pitch like that. if that was a met pitcher that was a 2 run homerun

  175. MetsFan4Decades says:

Flat out awful. Finish up a 1-5 road trip but getting shut out.

    It’s May all over again…

    • MetfaninFL says:

If its May all over again then A 10 game winning streak to close September is going to happen.

  176. das2ble says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  177. KL15 says:

OK, I’ve heard enough of this “trade F-Mart for this guy, trade F-Mart for that guy, Trade John Niese, Trade Kunz” the point is it didn’t happen. OK IT DIDN’T HAPPEN! All of us can sit here and complain about what trade should have been made but it wasn’t made then, it’s not going to be made now. This is what we’ve got. And for the record, if this entire roster learned to get a clutch hit the W/L would look alot better. It’s not like this just started happening in the last few days. The Mets did lose a game 1-0 to the Nationals earlier in the season. One trade is not going to make this team better regardless of what we all think. This team is too old and too streaky. They’re breaking down and cooling off now and like I said yesterday, July was fun but August is telling all of us the truth. Welcome back to planet earth.

    • the_other_matt says:

not too mention this team wasn’t/isn’t one trade away from being a WS team. Pen is awful for 7th, 8th & 9th; OF production awful; starting pitchers #4 and 5 inconsistant.

      • KL15 says:

You are 100% correct and I’m starting to think that Omar knew that. That’s why no trade was made. So it is what it is. Let the prospects come up and play. If we’re going to work on the future let’s get started,

        • therealsince86 says:

          +100000
If everything works out then we make the playoffs and it’s a crapshoot. We have the ability to get hot with this group as well as be terrible.
But you are set up next season with youth and cash. Not bad at all.

  178. BigPelf4prez says:

A DISGRACEUL WEEKEND. DISPICABLE. I NEVER WANT TO SEE NICK EVANS OR CANCEL EVER AGAIN!

  179. das2ble says:

how is valverde’s throat slash not warrant a fine?

    • MetfaninFL says:

This isn’t the NFL. MLB just turns a blind eye and says if you want to do something about it, hit him if he ever bats.

    • MetsFan1989 says:

if he was a met and did that u wouldnt say a thing. so shut the heck up we SUCK

  180. adam11216 says:

    guess who’s back
    back again
    same old mets
    cannot win

  181. garfios says:

That is it, I now pronounce myself a Yankee fan, I had cross over to the dark side, if they don’t bring new faces from AAA, I’m not watching this Mets, if they are going to lose, they should have a least an excuse.

  182. LIMetfan74 says:

    Welcome back mediocrocy!!!!

  183. LIMetfan74 says:

One other thing if Curch does not come back healthy this team is finished!

  184. garfios says:

Common K, I’m a Diehard Mets fan, I’ll never quit, but you have to admit, or we laugh at this underachieving team or we cry, I had opted for laughing.

  185. beef says:

CAN someone tell me which team would have cancel on there roster, maybe the nats maybe?????????

  186. KL15 says:

Everyone, as I said a few days ago THIS SEASON IS A WASH!!! We all need to accept that and start watching the prospects that are called up. And to some of you who don’t want these guys up here yet, two words, Lastings Milledge. No one wanted to bring him up untill the time was right either, how’d that work out? I’m not happy about this either. But we’re all kidding ourselves if we thought that the problems that were there from the beginning were going to magically go away. There is alot of work to do in the off-season. AND THANK GOD THESE BROKEN DOWN OLD MEN ARE GONE. Earlier in the year we all complained that the team had to get younger, now they’re doing that and still no one’s happy,

  187. nyj01827 says:

Let the Astros have their fun though with there train noises though. Do you know how depressing it’d be to be an Astros or Pirates fan knowing your team could never do it with how stacked that division is?

  188. nyj01827 says:

You’re right. What’s the Mets peak potential this season? Make the playoff’s, be lucky to get through one difficult round against Milwaukee, Chicago or St. Louis and lose. This team just doesn’t have it. There division’s weak enough to keep them competitive if they could actually win a little over half there games. When you get swept for crappy teams like the Astros though, they just don’t become worth watching. They aren’t even getting blown out either. What happened last season has unfortunately carried over to this season, with or without Willie. The bullpen didn’t change around that bunch. Same GM. The bench coach is now the manager. I’d rather see the Mets fall out of it than lose like 4 out of there last 5 games to lose to the Phillies for the division who also lose 3 out of 5.

    • KL15 says:

I’m going to get hammered for this, but I’m fairly excited about next year. Of all the trade I heard bantied about on here none of them would have had the impact we all wanted. If it’s not going to work then you rebuild with what you’ve got. Secondly the problem with having a “verteran” team is the ego’s get big enough that it causes a whole new set of problems. Personally I’m more interested in having young guys who want to prove they deserve to be there.

  189. jammer says:

here is my early impression of the youngsters:
i am a seller of nick evans. he has the deer in the headlight look. i don’t see how someone said “he is a 20/80 guy”

This Murphy kid on the other hand can be something special. he reminds me a little of chase utley.
Lets be honest. Even if the mets win the division, they are not as good as the cubs or brewers. Lets build for 2009. you have 3 pitchers signed for next year. Lets see how this kid Neise does. I say lets give Heilman a shot for a spot next year. He can’t be any worse than he is right now. Maybe he can be a Braden Looper. Who knows. I am not a fan of getting Teixeria. He will cost close to 20 a year for 4-5 years. Are there any good 3rd basemen who will be a free agent? Maybe we can sign one and move David Wright to 1st.

    • therealsince86 says:

None that even have DW ability. The guy is not great but he is still way above average.
