Ryan Church took batting practice before yesterday’s game, while also fielding fly balls in the outfield.
The Mets told reporters that Church will be re-examined today or Friday.
Yesterday, Jerry Manuel told reporters it is best for him to operate as though Church will not be back, saying:
“We’ve been going through this, I don’t know how long (he’ll be out). Two months? Whatever. But, if it does turn out to be something favorable for us, it would be very, very welcome.”
…i was able to watch most all of church’s time in the cage, and he looked strong…n fact, he hit one ball on to the Budweiser portion of the scoreboard…of course, i am neither a doctor nor a scout, and i was just happy to see the guy in action…naturally, the key to it all is how he felt after and how he feels today…

Groundhog Day. Bill Murray/, Met PR baloney. The same thing. Let us know when its Feb 3.
I said it last night in the postgame thread and I’ll say it again today,
What kind of reaction would we have had if reyes had the exact same game last night that wright had?
I suspect most people wouldn’t be saying, “well, maybe he’s tired and needs a day off”
What’s this have to do with Church? At least give a little off-topic warning…
what he needs is new spot on the batting order. honestly who cannot see that since wright got into the 3 hole he hasnt been the same consistent hitter… its like he swears he has to drive the ball out every at bat… in the 3 hole he is just simply not the 300 avg hitter we knew.
REYES
MURPHY
BELTRAN
DELGADO
WRIGHT
TATIS
SCHNEIDER
EASLEY
enough said. thats the lineup that almost got us to the promise land && its how it should stay. PERIOD. BELTRAN is better 3 as WRIGHT is 5
would batting in the 5 hole help wright remember how many outs there are in an inning?
I don’t like Beltran in the #3 spot because his low batting average would kill too many rallies. He is simply not consistent enough of a hitter.

WHO DARES TO SPEAK ILL OF THE DAVID?
no one seems to have a problem speaking ill of the reyes.
true fans don’t though. The media does.
or Beltran too. It’s amazing the amount and volume of expletives I hear directed toward those guys at Shea whenever they strike out (Beltran) or make a fielding mistake (Reyes).
But when David gets doubled up twice in two days on stupid base running mistakes, killing a potential rally? Or strikes out/grounds into a DP with RISP? Well, that’s just unfortunate. Poor kid needs a day off.
off-topic…
anyone else at the game see Guiseppe Franco on the big screen? :)
what was the crowd reaction?
I posted this in an early post this morning:
DNL interviewed him last night on their show. Was pretty funny. He explained how Gary Busey wound up in his commercial – which was not planned. Said he was next door getting pizza, came in, saw the commercial being filmed, went over to the director and wormed his way in.
Was ‘tongue in cheek’ complaining he has this big successful business in LA and he’s famous for his Procede commercials – lol.
Life long Met fan, grew up in Brooklyn.
They asked him how has the best ‘do’s’ in baseball. He said it was hard to tell since they all wear hats and helmets but on the NY Mets, David Wright’s is pretty cool….
What a shot to the leg this has been with church and the mets. Hope he gets well soon…would be a welcomed upgrade on this team..but for the moment i dont mind seeing murph do his thing
Who are we kidding? Church is not coming back this season. I’d even say that this might even be a career-threatening injury. Look at Corey Koskie. Similar situation. He had a couple of concussion, tried to come back too soon and could never shake the effects. His career pretty much ended there.
I wish Church the best, but if he hasn’t been able to shake the post-concussion effects by now he’s not going to for the rest of the season. I suffered 2 concussions in 1 year and it took me about 3 weeks of rest to stop truly feeling dizzry and nauseous (sp?). Then I really wasn’t completely myself for another 2 months. And I wasn’t asked to play a professional sport.
Without Church, the Mets offensive jolt may have to come from Carlos Beltran and Dan Murphy.
I have long been a Beltran supportor, but he stinks right now. I don’t care if Matt and the rest of this Metsblog brood say, “Well, he’ll have good number by the end of the year.” They are soft numbers because he never comes through when the Mets need the big hit. In fact, he doesn’t swing the bat when the Mets need a big hit.
Can you name the last big hit that Beltran got to win a game? The last I recall is the extra-inning HR against the Phillies LAST YEAR!
don’t be so down on beltran, i’m sure he’ll have a killer sacrifice bunt today with runners on 1st and 2nd and nobody out.
lmao…sad part is I don’t doubt it.
He’s had a couple of games he’s won single handedly this year, but he’s struggled for the most part in those situations, yes. But Beltran is a good player, and the numbers aren’t soft.
Has Church actually had any concussion related symptoms sine the last time they put him on the DL? He had the migraines which were ruled not to be, and then they’ve been babying him since. Or is he not feeling good and we just here ‘he’ll be evaluated this day’ only to here ‘he’ll be evaluated again next week’ etc, etc etc.
Yes the numbers are soft. If we were never showed his stats all year and were told to take a guess on what they were, we would guess a lot lower than they actually are.
Enough about Church – how did Giuseppe Franco look during BP?
Safe to say that Mets Nation is keeping its fingers crossed today. Can’t see them going on another run without a healthy Ryan Church.
well, it’s probably not our year then
I came to that realization a while ago. It just doesn’t seem to be the year this team can do anything. Early in the season anytime the team had a few good games in a row there was an off day or a rainout to kill the momentum. Every time it looked like a player would come back and be healthy they got hurt again or had to be out of the line-up for other reasons. It just seems like whenever things get going they come crashing back. Now a good run late alla the Phillies last year could change all of that. I am not saying they are out of it but it is just getting frustrating to see everything rolling along and then crash be it the bullpen, the offense or the starters getting hurt or being threatened to be taken out of the rotation
I’m not buying anything about this guy until he’s been in the line-up, starting for a solid week.
The thing about Beltran is he doesn’t take his poor hitting out onto the field. He still plays a Gold Glove caliber center field.
This team obviously needs him to come around. We are going nowhere without him. Is the lineup out yet? Wouldn’t be shocked if he had the day off.
Beltran, Reyes, Wright and Church will lead this team to a WS title.
